I want to see our new tatted Sing-Sing punter blast someone. I really do. He looks ferocious

solarcane

Soup
You are correct too.
I still can't see how Major League Baeball exists.

Maybe because their season is so long they can rob fans and TV stations with pure saturation.
You can only own so much Atlanta Braves replica gear no?

Sarasota 'cane

One of the big issues I see is we confuse folks who are stewards of other peoples money (Executives of public corps, board members, public officials, school presidents, etc.) with business OWNERS. If you OWN a private business then you can self-regulate because it's your money.

If you are a steward of other peoples money (Public corp, state agency, state schools, etc.) then you are subject to oversight and regulation. The issue as I see it is the foxes are sitting on each others boards and they are regulating each other with a wink, wink.

UM will never be able to pay the money for a HC that a state school pays because they have to use their own money. It's self-regulating.

Sarasota 'cane

Pro franchises only exist in their current form because of corporate socialism. They are not subject to market forces.

When Joe Robbie built Joe Robbie Stadium for the Dolphins he was for a time the owner of one of the most valuable franchises in the NFL.

Nowadays it's a curse for a pro franchise to own their own house. They way they maximize returns today is to have the local municipality build you your house, assume all liability for the house, but garner no return on the investment.

Not sure if you all noticed but when Ross updated Hard Rock with "his own money" (complete B.S. when you factor in the tax abatements that he received) he also "donated" Hard Rock to the city of Miami Gardens. He keeps all the profits, the city assumes all the liability, and when it's time for a new house he can pack up and leave Hard Rock for greener pastures and have a new "sucker" build him a new house.

I give props to San Diego for letting the Chargers go. That community had finally had enough and they told the Chargers to scram.

solarcane

Sota,

Much respect man, you explained things great, learned a couple things from you.

solarcane

Hi CGNC,

So you are saying "Deserve Victory" was more or less horse doo doo?

Sarasota 'cane

I stand corrected on Ross donating Hard Rock to the city. Looks like his "donation" was rejected. Apparently he and the Heizenga's still own it and the city will pay them $75,000,000 plus tax abatement's to operate it.

Go Canes!!

Make the NCAA put a set percentage of total revenues, let’s say 15%, into a fund.

Give every college athlete that fulfills predetermined requirements, finish their degree and competes four years eligible for a one time payout AFTER graduating.

Incentivizes graduation, maintains some semblance of amateurism and gives graduates a kick start after they finish.

Are there any pictures of these "foxes"?

What does a full ride 4 year scholarship at Miami including room meals medical, classes etc, for a football player go for?

Say you work at McDonalds for four years what do you make there?

In a way athletes are being paid pretty well compared to some of their peers ?

Terrance Sullivan

Sarasota Stephen Ross has now dropped roughly 700 million on the Rock. Love U Man but trying to clown him for that I can't get down with that. Yeah and San Diego are idiots because now they let that Facility go down. They are missing out on numerous multi Million Dollar Events Yearly that other Cities are Getting. So Congratulations San Diego U Played Yourselves.

SolarCane Most players whether they are Football or Basketball will be there 5 Years and if they are smart like Dallas Crawford and Demitrius Jackson they Got their Bachelor's and Master's degree and it was 400 thousand. When you include All the Free Gear, Staying in Luxury Hotels, Free Healthcare, Unlimited Meals, etc. The Hell with them working at McDonald's let's say they work for the City or County, or Admin Assistant or Teacher or whatever How many people making 80 thousand a year.

86Cane

Poor, poor, little football players, getting a $400,000 degree and a lifetime of opportunity.

Here's an idea: Get your degree, be smart, study the profession, learn your trade, get a job as a GA, then position coach, the an OC or DC and then a Head coach?

When is the last time a TV network paid a BILLION dollars to watch a kid flip burgers or $100 million for the night manager at BK to train him.

solarcane

Posted by: Go Canes!! | April 26, 2019 at 09:17 PM

So you are saying a full 4 yr scholarship player, and a kid flipping burgers are exactly equel because the kid with a half million dollar free ride isn't getting another million dollars to play a sport he played for free from 6 yrs old. I'm missing your point.

Sometimes you make really logical arguments.. Not all the time mind you but I am 100 percent with you here.

solarcane

When they start paying college football players
Texas will win the next 10 national championships in a row.

No kid in Florida will consider small potatoes Miami.

Be careful what you wish for.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: solarcane | April 26, 2019 at 09:35 PM

My point is college athletes are making hundreds of millions for coaches, ADs, bowls, TV networks and universities just to name a few.

In a supply and demand society everyone generating that kind of money is compensated accordingly, except college athletes.

In what world is it fair for Dabo to make $10-15 million a year including endorsements and Trevor Lawrence be ineligible and a pariah if a booster buys him a free meal.

Instead assistant coaches are stuffing 10 grand into a pair of sneakers and mailing them to a recruit, risking only the kid’s eligibility, while the HC talks nonsense on TV about amateurism while cashing a $500k a month paycheck.

It’s disgraceful.

Sarasota 'cane

Ross did not put 700 million into the Rock, and the money he did put in he gets back in tax abatements.

And let's not forget he was threatening to sell the team to an L.A. investment group before he squeezed the locals for a handout.

Sarasota 'cane

And what school charges 400k for a 4 year degree?

solarcane

T Sully unreal!
All that and then people feeling they should get another 50 grand a game.

Too bad a bunch of those folks didn't have to pay their own way through a four year apprenticeship trade program, while laboring for bricklayers, steelworkers,or another trade.

solarcane

Go,
Dabo didn't start out making 10 million dollars,
Lawrence will make more than any college football coach in a couple years, and I won't bother watching him play just for the money.

Herbieibis

Dam Clemson coughed up 93 mil.for Dabo to hang around for 10 more years. Somebody is making sum loot.

Somehow I feel like native is about to join the conversation.

JCane

Score 2 and strand 2 in bottom 8th, but two hits gets the game total to only 6 tonight while finally taking a lead, 4-3, heading to the 9th at the Light vs. VT.

solarcane

T Sully,
Lets say you are humble talented high school player growing up in Immokalee.

Wouldn't 3 years living in Coral Gables, everything paid for and the opportunity to be a multimillionaire before you are 25 maybe be payment enough to play something you love to do?

JCane

Canes Win! Feliz pitches the 9th, throws a lot of junk in the dirt that the last two VT batters kept swinging out for the last two outs as Ks, and the Canes pull out a win from a game they looked like they were gonna blow. Good pitching, no hitting, the routine E by the SS position(backup guy, Vilar), but an ugly win is still a win. This team is finding a way to pull out a whole lot of wins against the teams they're supposed to beat this year.

Terrance Sullivan

It can be Immokalee it can be Live Oak whether you grew up in a Trailer Park or in the Hood and U can go to Coral Gables for 5 years Get a Bachelor's and Master's Degree all Expenses Paid a Lifetime of Connections and a Chance to Possibly become a Professional Football Player or Maybe become a Head Coach One Day, or Become a Professional SportsCaster, etc. It's all about if Players want to get the most out of the Experience or Not.

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder when it comes to what we think k is talent compared to the NFL. No Canes taken through 3 rounds. Maybe we need to adjust our evaluation on what talent is.
Surely Jackson and Willis should already be gone.

BigWindyCane

No Canes drafted in the first three rounds. Jackson and Homer could have benefited from another season in Coral Gables. Lots of dreams smashed today.

IMO, Willis and both Jacksons will go early on Day 3. I still think the Canes have four drafted. Maybe five. But a high number will make NFL rosters because they are better than their record

90 % of degrees don't even cost 1/4 of that.

A guy like Dabo is a hypocrite. This is the same guy who said.

"But as far as paying players, professionalizing college athletics, that's where you lose me. I’ll go do something else, because there's enough entitlement in this world as it is.” He is making over 10 million a year in salary and endorsements to coach football and is talking about entitlement? It makes Dabo look like an entitled POS.

For me personally the biggest thing for me is the mind blowing hyporcrisy. It's just like coaches wanting to be able to move at will and players having transfer issues. It's a lack of balance and fairness. Not equality but fairness.

Outside of Urban Cryer when is the last time you seen a coach laying in the hospital with health issues from the sport.

These kids work really hard and it's not an amateur sport. Not with all the money being made. We pay kid actors, kid entrepeneurs etc. But these athletes can't even get outside income...in a way that's above board.

It needs to be addressed. Don't know if there is a perfect solution and don't think it has to be perfect but an effort should be made to address it.

Not necessarily true. My best friend took 1/3rd of his potential salary to live in LA over Eastern Washington state. To live in Miami with some change in your pockets is better than living in most college towns. It's why doctors in Miami, LA, New Yorks etc. often make less than those in smaller towns. Living other places is not nearly as enjoyable.

thirstybuzzardcane

These kids are getting an education for free. This whole thing paying the players is ludicrous.

thirstybuzzardcane

You're opening up a can of worms if you start paying college athletes.

thirstybuzzardcane

Joe Jackson should've stayed for one more year. Willis and him should've been picked already.

thirstybuzzardcane

Someone is getting a steal when they pick Willis. I'm sure his past didn't help him at all.

I think your friend would be an exception to the rule Hill.

Texas boosters could wine and dine potential professional 18 yr old college students and offer twice the money Miami could.

On social media you see
a lot more pictures of kids throwing wads of money around more often than degrees for marine science.

I agree with everyone that coaches are way over paid.
I also think that the college players that people feel sorry for will be making a ton more than they are in 3 years if the players have any talent.

Yep they could but here is the thing. My problem is it being against the rules. Everybody else is getting wined and dined. Coaches are, ncaa officials are, school administrators are. Let's be real the best players often get compensation outside of the boundries anyway. There is no reason to go to Clemson or Saban's car dealership extension football program otherwise.

Allow the kids to get paid and stop victimizing them. Yankees can pay more and don't always win etc.

It's the hypocricsy of the system. EVERYONE ELSE GETS PAID except the players. The greatest value of the scholarship isn't recognized in my opinion because so much possible study time is used for practice. Maybe if the athletes good get free degrees including room and board for life that would be better. Not just tuition but room and board also. Then they would have freetime to study while pursuing degrees later and can actually focus on grades and learn something. The current system is bs.

Go Canes!!

You guys who don’t want players to get anything more from the mult billion dollar industry created off the sweat and labor off the sweat of their backs care more about how it would affect you not them.

That can of worms is already wide open. It’s time to find a fair and equitable way for the kids generating all this money to get a fair, equitable part.

CoCane

No payment system needed.

Just stop blocking the players that are good enough to get paid off of themselves.

Autograph signings, appearances, endorsements etc...

86Cane

I kinda like this idea. Anything the promotes staying IN school and graduating is a positive thing.

86Cane

For 90% of these college football players getting a full scholarship, room, board, training, coaching, travel, medical care and more is the absolute best possible opportunity and outcome for them.

Nobody is forcing them to play college football.

For every ONE of them that would turn it down there are at least 1000 more who would take that offer in the blink of an eye. To make it seem like the are suffering, being abused or being taken advantage of by the system does not hold water.

Perfect Pair--SOUPSTER & SOLAR
I've been gone too long. Arrived home in Michigan Thursday. Lots of stress in Florida, of my making. I bought a brand new condo in Satellite Beach. Oceanfront, 2200 sq ft. OCEANA OCEANFRONT CONDOMINIUM. 6th floor, 32 ft. oceanfront balcony, accessible from living room and master bedroom. Or MADAM, MISTRESS bedroom!! Air mattress here I come. My Richard helped me out and used inheritance too. Too much info, I know, but I am a Florida resident and voter now. When I get the deed, I will register it.
Too far from the U and football, but if our dreams come true, and the CANES are in a huge bowl game, I will fly to whatever airport and Tom or another Canespacer can pick me up, and away we go.
I will be happy just to be able to see them on TV.
Hope everyone is well.

UMike

Redwine the first Cane off the board. Didn't see that coming.

Terrance Sullivan

UMike didn't see that either.
