Mantilla on the mound, FIU jumps all over him, 14-9, bottom of the 8th.

Miami adds four more 18-9.

Top of the 9th.

18-10 Canes Win!

Ugly win... We'll take it!

Didn't see Zamora tonight but that didn't stop the errors.

May and June are going to be the BEST months of my life in the last 5 years. Then August and September will be even better than that. How can you stand it!

Terrance Sullivan

Called the Duke Ticket Office for our Game against them on Saturday November 30th we can get tickets behind Our Canes Bench for 50 dollars a ticket as long as we buy 15 tickets or more that's the Group Rate.

Terrance Sullivan

Outstanding Work Canespace Family.

HillviewCane

I think the Gators and FSU will both be better than many think. We should win at least 10 though.

Terrance Sullivan

Lol The Gators are preseason Top 10 so who the Hell is underrating them lol. Come on Man. FSU is a bigger Crap Show than Us so lol on that as well. I hope we win 10 Games but until we get our QB settled and performing better than the past 2 years, Better O-Line Play, Better Special Teams especially Punter and Place Kicking, Get our Turnovers down again. We have turned the Ball way too much the last 2 seasons. Do those things and Yes we can win 10 or more Games. And pray we stay healthy on Defense especially at LB.

Sarasota 'cane

LB is huge! Great starters, no backups. I believe I read our LB's will have to play every down. I don't care how we spin this, it will be hard to beat the big boys with bubble gum, bailing wire, and duct tape.

And our offensive line is still "offensive" until they prove otherwise.

Prediction: 9-3 once the injury bug starts to bite.

Go 'canes!!

If Shaq and Pickney hadn’t returned our defensive outlook would be waaay different.

1. Agreed.

2. Agreed.

Unless the new offense can sustain drives, get more first downs and produces 30+ points/game. Then all bets are off.

IF we come out on the opening drive against UF and drive the ball down the field and score or even if we score on an 60 yard explosive play that they worked on all Summer then you will know that this may in fact be TNM.

IF we come out against the Gators and go three and out the first few drives, punt poorly, give up field position, expose the defense by keeping them on the field the whole game like last year and go down 10-0 then you will know that (for now at least) TNM is just another cute yet meaningless slogan.

Let's Try This Again. Total Agreement and Big Facts!

UMike

I'm hoping Enos will play call around our weaknesses and use our talent to move the ball. Not just call the same calls all game hoping they work. Freshman LB's Huff and Brooks will undoubtedly see playing time, and they are good prospects so we will see. Joyner making the move to LB will help as well. But it is an area of concern with debt.

Terrance Sullivan

UMike indeed play calling needs to get better at the same time our players need to take their craft more seriously as well. It's a 2 Way Street. Yes Sir on the new LB's coming in and our Depth Issues Brotha. See U All in Chapel Hill this September.

86Cane

Two ways to improve on offense apart from play calling:

1. QBs that throw the ball where it can be caught.

2. WRs who actually catch it when they do.

Big Facts Total Agreement well and

1. QB's actually watching film and picking up what defenses want to do to them. That's actually for receivers as well.

Go Canes!!

It’s not rocket science but it ain’t kindergarten math either.

We’ve got a lot of work to do and limited practice time to do it.

I say we walk into the swamp like Michael Douglas walks into Whammy Burger.
Calm and under control til we blast the ceiling off, then its on.

1. I have seen other college teams wearing different colored uniforms on Saturdays on TV who can actually throw AND catch so it is possible.

2. Other teams are out there all practicing too. I just hope this time around it looks like we actually practice throwing and catching also?

solarcane

Geez, soupbone,
throwing AND catching at the same practice on the same day??

86Cane

Solar...I know my expectations are REALLY high for the team with this whole throwing and catching at the same time thing. Heck, some might even claim they are "unrealistic". But hey, I actually saw it happen in person at the Spring game (only one dropped pass I can recall) so I am trying to keep hope alive!

UMike

It was refreshing to see us using and executing plays that other teams have used against us for years. Draw play, TE drag route, wheel routes, dump downs etc. It obviously goes both ways, but I can't help but Wonder how much Richt's offense handcuffed our QBs and playmakers.

Obviously, missing a wide open receiver is on the QB, but when everyone on the other side line knows what you're doing before you do, it's on the coach

VA Cane

Very good night for me. My player Clelin Ferrell played for mwe 2 years...4th pick in the draft by The Raiders....just talked to him....he is very happy. I am really proud of him....he is a great kid very smart and I wish him well. He really made me proud...great young man!!!!!

Herbieibis

Good for u VA and bad for the Herb laying in a hospital bed coughing my brains out and AFIB. Watching the draft is a plus, though.

VA Cane

Herb,
so sorry to hear that....damn my friend....please be safe and get well....God bless!

Terrance Sullivan

Great stuff VA.

Broward County had 4 first round picks last night, Brian Burns (Am. Heritage to FSU), Nick Bosa (St. Thomas to OSU), Marquis Brown (Chaminade-Madonna to Oklahoma), and Devin Bush (Flanagan to Michigan). Another DeAndre Baker (Northwestern to UGA) rounds out players from South Florida. If the Canes can simply keep two out of five in South Florida, that would make a big difference.

Vast majority of them were garbage level recruits by a garbage staff, you can't handcuff anything if there's no hands to cuff to begin with.

Take for example Mike, how's this draft panning out for all the transfers in to bolster depth during a bare cupboard era of program bottoming out so far? No difference makers anywhere on the roster so you get a .500 football team.

“Amateur”athletics coach going to make $100 million.

Absolutely obscene and ridiculous.

Canes hardballers start a 3 game home stand at 7pm tonight against Virginia Tech.

Canes are trending up at 28-14

Gators are trending down on a 3 game losing streak and a 26-17 record.

Noles are 26-14.

Any salary related to sports is ridiculous and obscene

A stone mason that faces a cathedral,a carpenter that builds perfect woodwork, a firefighrer that risks his life.
Compare their salary for contribution to a guy that plays top 5 pro golf for a living.

Sports salaries are depressing.
You could be a Formula One driver and work 5 hours a day 20 days a year and pull down as much money as Idaho is going make in a year.

It's not just sports. Roy Disney's granddaughter pointed out that if half of Disney CEO Iger's $65,000.000 2018 bonus had been spread around to the bottom half of all Disney employee's it would've amounted to an average 15% raise for those low paying employees. Multiply that times every multi-national corp and you see where the pay problems in America begin and end.

86Cane

I agree that sports salaries are out of control for both players and coaches. Just don't know how to fix it except for a salary cap for teams, players and coaches in all sports? Ideas?

I think at this rate MLB will collapse first followed by NBA and Hockey and lastly NFL.

When it comes to colleges I can't for the life of me understand why the State legislatures don't pass a cap for head coaches salaries at say 5 million. How much does the Governor of South Carolina, Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Florida Make?

86Cane

Zippia analyzed the salary of every governor based on information received from Ballotpedia. With this data, we can compare the 50 governors of the United States to see how much each makes.

Most governors are paid at least $100,000, but leaders of six states receive a five-figure salary. The wages from $70,000 to $187,818.

Sarasota 'cane

In the states with D1 football programs the Head Football coaches are the highest paid employees in every state. Doctors/scientists come in 2nd, but in the $500k range.

The problem isn't capitalism or market forces, it's the boards and regulators that have failed us. When I hear people say we need fewer regulations across the board it drives me nuts. Unbridled capitalism will lead to the kleptocracy that we are currently dealing with. The foxes are guarding the hen houses.

Sota
Good post

I think greed is what takes college football fans right out of watching NFL games.
In the 70s I watched every Raider game. The last NFL game I watched was the Cowboys when JJ coached them and Mike I was there.
I couldn't name 5 players on any pro team regardless of the sport
