nemo2002

Hi!

BigWindyCane

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

86Cane

Elliot for the WIN!

BigWindyCane1

Looks like Phil Steele is bullish on the Canes. He is one of the few picking the Canes to win the Coastal and make the top 25. Phil Steele believes so as he projects the Hurricanes to represent the Coastal in the ACC Championship Game. Phil Steele projects the Hurricanes to play Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on December 30th at Hard Rock Stadium.

He also lists 11 Canes on his four preseason All ACC teams.

Preseason All ACC First Team:
TE Brevin Jordan
DE Jonathan Garvin
LB Shaq Quarterman
LB Mike Pinkney

Preseason All ACC Second Team:
OG Navaughn Donaldson
DT Jonathan Ford
CB Trajan Bandy
PR Jeff Thomas

Preseason All ACC Fourth Team
OL DJ Scaife,
LB/striker Romeo Finley
KR/ST DeeJay Dallas

If all of this pans out to be true, this will be a good season for the Canes. With a sucessful season, the Canes should also have a top 5-10 recruiting class and will be on a path to competing for national championships again.

BigWindyCane1

Phil Steele's list seems pretty good, in the sense that it appears that his analysis is much deeper than most writers.

IMHO, Steele's pick of Jonathan Ford as second team All ACC is an example that he has some actual observations. Bandy, Quarterman, Pinkney and Garvin are obvious picks based on last season's stats, but Ford's stats from last season aren't very impressive.

Yet, I had a chance to watch a couple of Spring practices, and Ford was a big surprise. Ford definitely was a physically demanding force inside. Ford has a chance to get drafted higher than McIntosh, Norton and Willis. Ford looked really dominant and disciplined. He will be hard to block.

Finley was also a good pick, because he really is the third best LB on the defense, and he was absolutely outstanding last season in limited playing time.

BigWindyCane1

Other predictions:

Don't sleep on Mallory for a breakout season. Mallory is a future NFL tight end. Our punter will be All ACC. Jeff Thomas might also make all ACC at WR, and Pope will have a great year.

CamRon Harris and Lorenzo Lingard will also have great seasons, with over 5 yards a carry. Donaldson will need to have a great season for the Canes to be good, and I think he will be first or second team All ACC.

Our QBs will have a breakout season, whether it is Perry, Martell or Williams.

Jerimiah Payton will be Freshman All ACC, and if Zion Nelson starts, he will also.

CGNC

Belated Happy Father's Day Canespace Dads!

BigWindyCane

Apparently, Corey Flagg, a three-star ILB from Houston North Shore, committed to the Canes. He measured at 5-10, 233 lbs.

Terrance Sullivan

As I have said Recruit City Guys. If you read what the Guy said Miami is a City and I am City Guy from Houston. If it was me. I would recruit Guys from Cities of 200,000 residents or more because they won't be intimidated by coming to Miami because they are used to City Life.

86Cane

As I have said Recruit City Guys.

I agree 100%.

86Cane

1. CamRon Harris and Lorenzo Lingard will also have great seasons, with over 5 yards a carry.

2. Donaldson will need to have a great season for the Canes to be good, and I think he will be first or second team All ACC.

3. Our QBs will have a breakout season, whether it is Perry, Martell or Williams.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | June 17, 2019 at 02:05 PM

While this all sounds really good and we would ALL like to agree with you we have heard all of this positive talk and spin before way too many times to fall for it again so easily.

Let's Break It DOWN:

1. Lingard was my favorite recruit out of HS and was guaranteed to be a star, then the knee injury. He has not participate in any drills or conact and is supposed to be back by Fall. Let's wait until he put on pads and a helmet and carries the rock a few times before he goes to 5 yards a carry and all star status. CamRon looked good in spring PRACTICE, so let's not annoint him as the next BIG thing just yet.

2. Fat and slow is no way to go through life. IF the new strength and conditioning program can do for him what the last did not, then yes he can be ALL-ACC and be a NFL pro some day. Balance, footwork, technique and stamina all need to improve. He is just not a TACKLE like someone on here said, no names used. Center or guard.

3. OUR QBS will have a break out year? Maybe, but seriously dude? You can't even name which one is the starter much less far above the others because you had to name all three. Until ONE guy is THE GUY and so much better than the others then we have no clue. Call me when the starter for the opener is named and then we will have a more fair and balanced discussion on this position so critical to our success.

Appreciate your comments as always and just wanted to curb your enthusiasm a pinch with a small dose of reality.

AeroCane

I second 86!
We did land a commitment from Cory Flagg a inside LB from texas. 3 star and 5’10 but a solid 233 and had 144 tackles as a junior!
No decommittment issues as he is from OOS

And for me, you can throw in "not as smart." But I try my best.

I always stay optimistic. The Canes have seemed to always attract talent. It isn't always the top South Florida talent, but there is such a large pool to recruit from that the Canes always have future NFL players on their roster.

Sometimes talented players and/or coaches let us down, but at some point the Canes have to start playing up to their talent level.

Hello all hope you are all well. Been real bz getting my moms estate straight, checking that the 300 acre farm is going well, appraising houses, and getting my college and young guys ready. I can see a good season ahead; my big questions are as always the OL and QB. whats new with that. Hope people step up and be leaders on that side of the ball. If we get good....not great as there are none at the positions....good solid steady output...we could go 12-0....not a prediction but solid performances in all 3 phases will get us close. UF is the big game; we gotta beat those jerks! We can win the division....then get drilled by Clemson....we are not on their level not close....and still play in a big bowl...thats not bad for me...!!

"Mark Anthony Martin (born January 9, 1959) is a retired American stock car racing driver. He last drove the No. 14 Chevrolet SS for Stewart-Haas Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a relief driver in every Cup race (except for Talladega) from Bristol in August of 2013 until the end of the season. He has the second most wins all time in what is now the Xfinity Series with 49. He finished second in the Sprint Cup Series standings five times, and has been described by ESPN as "The best driver to never win a championship." Martin, with five IROC Championships, has more than any other driver. Also, during the 2005 season, Martin took over the all-time record for IROC wins, with 13."

That's not fair to Mark Martin, oh I see what you did there . . .

GD and his creepy underage teenage boy obsession in the off season is the worst part of this blog. Even worse than his attempt at whining about open scholarship spots in between trying to paint the scholarships offered as completely unfair for those accepting them as young adults making their own decisions in life. What a loser jock sniffer.

It is good to see that the Canes are still attracting recruits to attend paradise camp. Frankly, I dropped by the big field (in front of the student center, Hauser I believe) to watch a little of the camp last year. I saw some great talent out there, and that is when I saw Jerimiah Payton competing on every rep with any DB he could find. Dugans was a good WR coach.

I had some concerns about the way CJR was running the QBs, and I really wasn't a big fan of Thomas Brown either. But I loved the defensive coaches, especially Jess Simpson, who I thought was the best DL coach the Canes have had in a while.

If I find time, I will try to drop by to see what I can see. Now, we will see if CMD and staff can close the deal.

AeroCane

Great Windy! Give us some updates!
There is a nice highly rated 4 star WR (Daz, I think his first name) that will be there that Enos is very high on

PS I think dugans was an excellent recruiter - Taylor needs to recruit as well or better

Great job! Hernandez deserves a shot at the NBA after what the NCAA did to him. Now, that is three straight years with the Canes having a player drafted. Hernandez (Raptors) this year, Lonnie Walker (Spurs) and Bruce Bowen (Pistons) in 2018 and Devon Reed (Suns) in 2018. Aside from the basketball blue bloods, there aren't many teams that can claim that. Coach L has definitely upgraded the talent on the roster.

Solar...when we are young, death is never a consideration much less a random thought. We were younger, less scared and much more willing to take our chances. We too could have died on the river, no shyte. But we lived to talk about it.

Today we are older, not much wiser, but way more scared to die. We ain't risking death when it is coming sonner or later, and maybe sooner than we know. No reason to encourage it for no reason like we used to.

Go, from what I read Van dyke had the best showing of any QB at paradise camp ever. Seems like a stud.

BigWindyCane1

The Canes have 18 commits, 14 in-state and 4 out-of-state. I like this current group. It is a good balance of players with high ceilings. We even got a recruit from Texas, and it has been a few years since the Canes have gotten a commitment from Texas. That is a good sign. Van Dyke appears to be a real QB, with a lot of potential.

I like the way Coach Barry is recruiting the offensive line, with a mixture of elite talent and high potential tall, athletic tackles. The Canes appear to finally recruit tackles.

Coach Barry appears to be strong at player development, so if he can coach this group up, it appears that the Canes should be solid in that department moving forward. Plus, I think Enos will run an offense that will not expose our OLs weaknesses as much.

The Canes have solid commitments at every position, and I think the remaining elite recruits are waiting to see what kind of season the Canes have.

Go Canes!!

Absolutely UMike.

Amazing to read that RB Asa Martin has reentered the transfer portal?

Asa Martin transferred from Auburn to Miami in January after transferring following his true freshman. He participated in the first two days of spring practice with the Canes this spring, but was injured and didn't participate after that. Now, less than six months later and no live games played, Martin has reentered the transfer portal?

The Canes have a very talented backfield. Martin was a good RB out of high school, but the Canes have some future NFL RBs on campus, With CamRon Harris, Deejay Dallas and Lorenzo Lingard ahead of him, and Don Chaney Jr. on the way, it will be difficult for Martin to see playing time in a Canes uniform. Good luck with him.
