One ladyfish, one trout, one snook on a DOA shrimp! I also saw a manatee.

The big tide was too big when I got there. The high water was keeping me from moving around where I had wanted to go. I have two more spots that I think will be better for wade fishing near the Gandy bridge in the same general area that I think will offer better water for wading.

I'm also done with braided line for throwing jigs and lures. It's far superior to mono, but it tangles too much and is unforgiving once it gets knotted.

The moon is still strong tonight if any of you are itching to wet a line!!

This has been your Tampa Bay fishing report!!

Beginning in the 2019-20 season, the men's college basketball three-point line will move more than a foot back after the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved new rules for the upcoming year.

The line will be placed 22'1¾" away from the basket in Division I, a change from the 20'9" that has been in place since 2008.

Its about time the NCAA Did This as far as moving the 3Pt Line Back to the International Line. BTW Cade Weldon transfers to FCS East Tennessee State.

Four University of Miami baseball student-athletes were selected on the final day of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday.

Right-hander Gregory Veliz (15th round, Los Angeles Angels), catcher Michael Amditis (21st round, Cleveland), right-hander Mark Mixon (26th round, Los Angeles Dodgers) and right-hander Tyler Keysor (40th round, Milwaukee) all heard their names called on Day 3 of the draft.

Veliz was picked in the 15th round by the Angels, who used the 451st overall pick to select the junior right-hander. Miami's closer in 2019, Veliz was outstanding out of the bullpen for the Hurricanes. The power right-hander went 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA and nine saves, while striking out 69 batters in 42.1 innings pitched.

A native of Key West, Fla., Veliz began his career as a starting pitcher but was dominant as a reliever in his third season in Coral Gables. Veliz made 47 appearances, including 15 starts, in his career, compiling a record of 8-6 with a career ERA of 3.05 and 161 strikeouts over 121.0 innings pitched. Opposing hitters batted just .179 against him in three seasons as a Hurricane.

Amditis was the 640th overall pick in the draft, selected in the 21st round by the Indians. A team captain in 2019, the redshirt sophomore had a breakout campaign in his first full season with the Hurricanes. Amditis was named Second Team All-ACC after hitting .3-8 with six doubles, seven homers and 24 RBI in the regular season.

A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Amditis played in just 30 games while battling injuries in his first two seasons in Coral Gables. But the third-year player made 48 starts for the Hurricanes in 2019, delivering several key hits and playing outstanding defense behind the plate, throwing out 36 percent of base stealers.

Mixon was selected in the 26th round with the 791st overall pick by the Dodgers. He was a key reliever in his first season with the Hurricanes, posting a 2.33 ERA over 27 innings pitched. The sidewinding right-hander went 31 and struck out 28 batters in his 26 appearances.

A native of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Mixon threw two scoreless innings of relief at the Starkville Regional. He held Southern University to one hits and struck out three in an elimination game that helped propel the Hurricanes on a path to the regional final.

Keysor was selected in the 40th round with the 1,213rd overall pick by the Brewers. A valuable member of Miami's pitching staff in his first season in Coral Gables, Keysor threw important innings as a starter and reliever in 2019. He was 6-1 with a 3.78 ERA, striking out 38 batters over 47.2 innings pitched.

A native of Windermere, Fla., Keysor stepped up in a big way when two of three weekend starters missed time due to injury. The powerful right-hander made two starts in their absence and won both games, allowing just two unearned runs over 10.2 combined innings against Virginia Tech and Bethune-Cookman.

Miami had five players taken in the 2019 MLB First-Year Player Draft, with junior right-hander Evan McKendry being selected in the ninth roundby Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

JCane

McKendry, Veliz and Amditis would be big losses for this young baseball team, as top starter, catcher and reliever. I say would be due to all still having eligibility and the potential to come back if desired. I don't see McKendry returning given him being a top 300 pick. Anything is possible with the other folks depending on their situations. Interestingly this is now Amditis's 2nd time being drafted by the Tribe.

Congrats to cecconi and del Castillo. The hardballers truly could use a few more young arms.

Welcome to our 2021 kicker from Hollywood Chaminade..

Canes got a committed from a ‘huge’ JUCO interior lineman - 6’4 335; eligible to play ASAP; this helps with competition which is critical;

As for baseball - nice season; obviously better than the past 2, but DiMare needs to learn how to manage the lineup and pitching staff better - and yes, it’s his first year as head guy, but he’s been around long enough to not have growing pains. Hopefully he does better next year and hopefully we can grab some power pitchers (and hopefully arteaga doesn’t teach them to pitch ‘away’ because that’s how he did it - have to intimidate inside then you control the plate)

T Franklin 4 star Miami commit visits Penn State today.

Franklin, a 6-foot, 195-pound athlete who also shines on the basketball court, finished his sophomore season with 1,602 rushing yards (9.8 per carry) and 14 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He verbally committed to the Hurricanes last October, only a few days after Penn State extended an offer. Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Oregon and Tennessee are among programs that have since entered the picture.

Good morning
Just got a committment from Orange Park OL Rivers - 6’6/330
Beat out uf and FSU - 4 stars
Will be a interior guy or right tackle
Between him and the juco we got the other day, manny and Barry are getting it done; now a few pure left tackles and our OL will be fine

BigWindyCane

Rivers was a huge get. ESPN ranks him as #2 in the state of Florida and #32 nationally. Rivers might be the highest ranked offensive lineman recruit in a while. Rivers is from Orange Park Oakleaf, where Shaq played HS football.

Rivers is a huge recruiting win for the Canes in a position of need. Rivers is an early enrollee, and will probably be in the mix for playing time right away.

Herbieibis

It's about time. The worm may be finally turning. We need the big dogs on both lines. Quality that's the ticket. Now we need the quality coming in at LB, another area we seem to have trouble getting commits.

86Cane

Good news on the recruiting front.

U Felony strikes again

A former captain for the University of Florida football team was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday, making him the second player from that team to be accused of murder.

Tony Joiner, whose full name is Earl Antonio Joiner, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on Saturday in Lake Wales, Florida, for the 2016 killing of Heyzel Obando, according to Fort Myers, Florida Police.

Rivers won’t change his mind imo
I read somewhere where he’s already helping recruit for us and the commits that recommit usually do it in a non conspicuous way - his way was more of a public announcement
Ps I was only partly correct above - not only did we beat out trailerhassee and UFelony, but also UGA and Bama!

Looking at the transfers for highly sought after QB recruits, it’s good to see PERRY and Williams on the list of QBs that stayed at the University that they originally committed to. That seems rare because the QB transfer rate seems to have reached an alarming level

IMO, he is obviously not mentally well. Very terrible and sad situation, for all involved.

Old Skool

If you want to agree (think) with the jury, Kellen's guilty.

Former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II has been found guilty of raping a homeless woman last year, as well as misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and committing a lewd act related to other victims.

The rape charge stemmed from a May 13, 2018 assault on a 58-year-old homeless woman in Encinitas, Calif. The misdemeanor counts had to do with accusations that Winslow flashed a 57-year-old woman in that city, while she was tending to a garden outside her home, and an incident involving a 77-year-old woman at a Carlsbad, CA gym.

The soldier just got himself a dishonorable discharge.

Phil Steele picks the Canes to win the Coastal Division Championship:

“Miami had one of the nation’s best defenses last year but an underachieving offense saw them lose five games as a favorite and 7-6 with an ugly bowl loss. It was enough to make Mark Richt retire and Manny Diaz is not your typical first year head coach as he has been here the last three years. He has a top ten defense and a much improved offense, plus a better schedule and a solid shot at winning the Coastal.”

So we lose a big recruit - DE Harris decomitted and is trying to reclassify from 2021 to 2020
He posts - ‘I am miami’ but I’m decomtting
If I’m manny, I pull his offer
These effing prima donnas need to understand it’s a privilege to play at the U - if you want to play games then screw you there are other kids who will stand by their word Jmo

Sarasota 'cane

I don't even read about commitments anymore. They are meaningless until signing day. Recruiters are scouring our boards for prospects because they know UM has better access and data on individual players.

As soon as we offer a kid then all the schools pile-on, likely with gobs of cash that UM cannot provide.

A verbal commitment is as reliable as the paper it's written on.

We got to win period. Stop losing to these scum bucket teams, that shouldn't be on the field with us and these crewts will stop leaving mommy.
Bama, Clemson And Georgia are the big time flavors and if they are snooping in our back yard, then they are plucking 8 out of 10 of those kids. Those kids can say they bleed Miami and that's the crib all they want but in the end, the SEC is just a plain better conference with more big time games and bigger stadiums and Clemson is the new FSU of the ACC. Right now we are not in the same are code with those guys, when it comes to quality. This coming years class looked great but not we are starting to load up with a bunch of 3 star players. Never going to catch Clemson, with them adding 4's and 5's and we are adding 3's. Just calling a spade a spade. If we don't get Harris to recommit then it will be one of those 3 that get him. It sucks, but we have no one to blame but the previous lame hires we have had.

The Herb guesses we might as well take the aging split rail fence down. Just forget recruiting the backyard. Obviously the New Miami newness must already be wearing off.

Sarasota 'cane

Miami still has a Top 5 class. My main issue with UM over the last decade isn't losing recruit's, my issue is losing to teams that have never had a Top 10-25 recruiting class. We do less with more.

When we fix that the players will return.
