The New Miami found old ways to lose a football game in their 24-20 loss to the Florida Gators in Orlando on Saturday night.
Numerous penalties, a few dropped passes and one costly turnover can do that to a young and developing team.
We had predicted a final score of Miami 34 - Florida 17. And if not for the above mentioned mistakes it very well could have been.
The Hurricanes certainly look much improved over last year's debacle in Dallas when UM was out-manned and out-played decisively by LSU. They were always in this game and had their chances to steal a win but could not manage to come up a big play when it mattered most or score enough points to change the outcome. Simply put, twenty points is not going to get it done against the big boys in 2019.
This very young Miami team has a new head coach and a new starting QB but clearly still lacks the confidence or play makers (or both?) needed to pull off a road upset against a top 20 team.
The Florida Gators are not likely to win the SEC or the National Championship but had just enough talent and coaching to beat Miami in the college football 2019 season opener.
It is very likely Miami will be much improved by the end of the season and the results will reflect this as the Hurricanes chase an ACC title game date with likely opponent the Clemson Tigers.
Until then we encourage UM fans to be calm and Cane on. There is hope in Coral Gables again as The New Miami shows signs of being a work in progress.

FSU struggling in the second half. Conditioning and mistakes seems to be an issue. I am feeling better about that matchup in Tallahassee

Tate should have stayed at Ohio State and played WR, he would have around a hundred yds receiving about now
Posted by: solarcane | August 31, 2019 at 03:12 PM
Tate will have some catches next week. He got open last week.
Posted by: UMike | August 31, 2019 at 03:15 PM
Mike yea he was wide open at least twice I saw, Jarren speeds up a couple seconds maybe he catches a couple.

Same Lol Miami ironically is only enjoyable from a historical perspective today.
felonious sex-assault university can't hold an 18 point lead or get people to fill up their plague of empty seats at home games either anymore. This is my shocked typing font, no, really, it is.

Flowers better than Pope windy?
Posted by: solarcane | August 31, 2019 at 04:33 PM
Do you mean, Zay Flowers at Boston College from University School?
Pope is extremely talented, but he hasn’t studied his craft or the playbook yet. Talent alone is enough to dominate high school but without a solid work ethic, talent alone is not enough to excel in college and the pros. Maybe that changes this year for Pope. Flowers was smaller than Pope was in high school. Pope was very talented in high school. I hope we see it in college. Flowers was shifty in high school but really didn’t emerge until his senior season. Flowers is smart, but didn’t attend as many elite camps until late in the process. I don’t think the Canes recruited him. He wasn’t on their radar. I liked Payton better than Flowers in high school, although they have different skill sets. I would have preferred both, but I don’t believe the Canes ever recruited him.
I know the recruiting game has changed, and when players emerge late in their senior year, I noticed many programs like BC come in to snatch recruits that the Canes (and FSU and UF) never have on their radar. That happens a lot over the years, especially since Butch Davis left the Canes.

Thanks windy Flowers playing lights out today.
This UNC freshman Qb could give Carter and Blades trouble if we don't pound him with the front end guys.

South Carolina down 20-24, to UNC (future Canes opponent) with 8:26 left in the game.
By the way, Georgia St. beating Tennessee, 35-24.

It's going to be a scrap next Saturday Night in Chapel Hill. Go Canes Beat UNC!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | August 31, 2019 at 06:42 PM
This UNC game has me concerned. Really concerned. I'm worrying that a frenzied North Carolina defense propelled by those fans might make short work of our offensive line.
Posted by: TonyCane | August 31, 2019 at 06:48 PM
Tony me too if William holds the ball we lose because we don't get enough offensive plays.
UNC has never been scared to play their asses off against us.
I just said a while ago I needed to rethink my 11-1 10-2 predictions.

Posted by: solarcane | August 31, 2019 at 06:35 PM
Howell is a very good QB. UNC has something that we have been looking for, and that is a QB who can lead the program to win games that they aren’t supposed to win. A good QB always give you a chance. Some absolutely terrible game management at the end by Mac Brown though. Great win for a really food guy, Coach Mac Brown.
Ok, now it’s time for the Canes to kick some Tar Heel butt! The Canes are on notice that they cannot take this team for granted

Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | September 01, 2019 at 09:24 AM
At least the Canes know that they cannot take this team for granted. The Canes could lose if they don’t play well. Both offensive tackles need to play a LOT better, the DBs need to tackle better, the Canes need to play aggressively on offense and defense, and the Canes need to score a lot more than 20 points. A prolific offense scores a lot more, and IMO, the target should be at least 35-45 points
I would like to see the Canes get a LOT more out of their run game in traditional sets, and not just the wildcat. If the Canes don’t start doing that, opponents will prepare for the wildcat and shut down the run game.
IMHO, Jarren needs to have time, but he also can’t take sacks. Jarren also needs to show that he can throw accurately going both deep and outside the hash marks like Howell and Blackmon did yesterday, and that will also help open up the offense. IMHO, Jarren also needs to understand the zone read, and when to give it, pull it and throw it.
JT4 is talented, so I want him to have more touches. If he doesn’t get the touches he thinks he deserves, I don’t want to see JT4 sulking.
Enos is supposed to be an offensive guru. Let’s see what he can dial up for UNC. Most, importantly, I want to see teaching and improvement from everyone on offense.

The UNC game will be interesting
The last time Mack Brown and Manny were in a game together Manny gave up a sweet 550 yds to BYU and Brown fired him after the game (second of the season). I think Manny would like nothing better than shut UNC down score around 40 points and say "How do you like me now?"
Posted by: solarcane | September 01, 2019 at 01:01 PM
I hope Blades ands Carter tackle this game, and maybe Amari covers his guy.
I think we will put a lot more pressure on UNC than South Carolina did though. Im not real worried about this one... yet

I haven’t heard anything official, but under the latest storm track, on Friday morning, Dorian will be a category 1 storm in the Atlantic Ocean, about 100 miles east of North Carolina heading northwest. We will see what happens

The Herb says this, until we learn how to play with consistence and win on the road, I don't feel good about any game we play, save a couple of ham and egg games we have on the schedule. This UNC game should tell us what direction we are headed in.
Posted by: herbieibis | September 01, 2019 at 03:59 PM
The Canes open as a -5.5 to -6 point favorite on the road against the Tar Heels. ESPN gives the Canes a 63.1% chance of winning
Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 01, 2019 at 04:20 PM
Yes the tackles have got to be coached hard!!!!
Al Blades needs to talk less and tackle like Dad and Uncle Bennie. when he does that, talk to me. His tackling was very very poor he has to get better. UNC will be a tough game for us....with this line they all will be tougher than thought to be. I agree solar, 11-1 10-2 might be a liitle much based on the FL game....we will know more Sat!!!
Please all stay safe CGNC you are a riot......much better than Pornboy

After two catastrophic knee injuries in college, the 36-year old future HOF RB Frank Gore, is getting ready for his 15th season. The Bills kept Gore and cut McCoy. Amazing.
Lewis at LB, Reed and Taylor at Safety, the Stork at DE, Wilfork, Sapp and JEROME Brown at DT, Irvin at WR, Kelly at QB, etc., the list goes on of the All-Time NFL HOF greats to play each position. There has been some truly great Canes to run through the smoke, and Gore is definitely one of the all-time great RBs to ever play this game.

Said it before, when u have average offensive linemen, the spread is where we need to be headed. Why we stick with the pro style is beyond me. If we got Bama or Georgia type cruits, we could run what ever we wanted. Oakie makes offense look easy.
Posted by: Herbieibis | September 02, 2019 at 12:26 AM
Oakie makes offense look easy.
Posted by: Herbieibis | September 02, 2019 at 12:26 AM
True. I agree 100%. A spread offense would be great. But IMHO, when you have QBs like Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray or Baker Mayfield, it also helps a lot.
The Canes need a QB like one of them. Not sure if those QBs are nature or nurture/made or developed (or a combination of both)? But the Sooners had two special QBs win the Heisman and become #1 overall NFL picks, and maybe a third
Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 02, 2019 at 12:49 AM
BWC, you sure you want JT4 to get a lot of touches? One of his directly resulted in a UF win and another he lost his chance for redemption.
Posted by: HeGotGoodFeetTho | September 02, 2019 at 08:28 AM
Despite an early indication that it planned to go to Miami, looks like Dorian is going to give South Florida the traditional Cat 5 tease and take an official visit to Georgia or South Carolina. If that's the case, Tyrique would be a far more appropriate name for the hurricane than Dorian.
Posted by: Old Skool | September 02, 2019 at 09:46 AM
Every ACC opponent we play is not a sure thing to be honest.
Solar, I think Tate left OSU because Urban left. Wanted to be a QB and thought he would have a better shot in Miami, be with some former high school team mates AND not have to live in bucknutville. He is an athlete and wants to play. I wish him success here.
