The New Miami found old ways to lose a football game in their 24-20 loss to the Florida Gators in Orlando on Saturday night.
Numerous penalties, a few dropped passes and one costly turnover can do that to a young and developing team.
We had predicted a final score of Miami 34 - Florida 17. And if not for the above mentioned mistakes it very well could have been.
The Hurricanes certainly look much improved over last year's debacle in Dallas when UM was out-manned and out-played decisively by LSU. They were always in this game and had their chances to steal a win but could not manage to come up a big play when it mattered most or score enough points to change the outcome. Simply put, twenty points is not going to get it done against the big boys in 2019.
This very young Miami team has a new head coach and a new starting QB but clearly still lacks the confidence or play makers (or both?) needed to pull off a road upset against a top 20 team.
The Florida Gators are not likely to win the SEC or the National Championship but had just enough talent and coaching to beat Miami in the college football 2019 season opener.
It is very likely Miami will be much improved by the end of the season and the results will reflect this as the Hurricanes chase an ACC title game date with likely opponent the Clemson Tigers.
Until then we encourage UM fans to be calm and Cane on. There is hope in Coral Gables again as The New Miami shows signs of being a work in progress.
CGNC,
I think you are right on all counts.
I don't get the hate for the guy. He just wants to be in the game and not on the bench.
If he had a do over he might be a WR at The Ohio State and be playing for a National championship one day.
The trade off for his present girlfriend for a Midwest farmer's daughter might be a deal breaker though.

Solar,
Kosi definitely hasn’t been nowhere near the level of Murray, Mayfield or Hurts, and I am not sure we have one of those yet. Maybe Jarren or one of the QBs on the roster can develop into a better QB. IMHO, I would like to start with Enos recruiting/developing a QB who is the best QB in the ACC Coastal, then build from there to the best in the ACC and the nation. The Canes haven’t had the best QB in the ACC Coastal yet.

Windy
If we get Van Dyke and especially Jake Garcia and Enos stays I have a good feeling about the qb spot.
The o line ever gets its stuff together any number of qbs could be deadly with Enos

If I were Van Dyke or Garcia and I valued my health... I would NOT want to takes snaps behind OUR O-line...
We'll be lucky if they "stick."

Those three qb's got developed. Mayfield, didn't have many offers out of high school. Murry a 5 I believe and Hurts a 4.

I say go get some depth of talent to work with. Barry got handed this Effed up situation with no real true Tackles. Can't make no lemonade with out some dam lemons.

2019 North Carolina looks like they're somewhere between the 2017 Blue Devils to 2014 Cardinal range potentially this year.
Mack Brown is 196-97 (average of about 6-3 each year for his career)without a bye week as a coach. It's either this one or a UVA home upset in November if they're pulling any at all this season.

So, we are stuck in Europe for now, but maybe to ATL or TPA later on. MCO is closed for bidness. Something about a storm?

Sounds like the Rhine is up this year. Last year, they had record lows.
Posted by: Old Skool | August 31, 2019 at 09:48 PM
Last year was record drought in Europe. This year plenty of rain on the Rhein and all the rivers in Europe. Riding high and fast!
Posted by: 86Cane | September 02, 2019 at 05:37 PM
I see the UNC game as similar to the Canes coming off a bye week. The Canes should be rested and prepared. Any win on the road against an ACC Coastal team is great, but I expect a win.
I would like to see improvement where the Canes showed weakness against UF. IMHO, there are several areas that need dramatic improvements: (1) Improvement in pass protection with the OTs, (2) improvement in tackling, (3) improvement with Jarren going quickly through his progressions and ball security, (3) eliminate special teams miscues, (4) eliminate penalties, (5) improvement with coverages, etc.
IMHO, JT and the other playmakers need to get some quality touches to see who can consistently give the Canes the big plays and frighten opposing defenses. Not sure we have seen that yet in Enos offense, but I will excuse week 0 against UF with this very young offense.
If the Canes improve those weak areas, everything else should take care of itself and strengthen my faith in the CMD era moving forward.

Good points Roach
I guess Williams better show out this season so the high school boys know Enos is legit.
Posted by: solarcane | September 02, 2019 at 07:00 PM
There's always HOPE...
I STILL think Enos could do a better job "covering" our lack of O-Tackle ability.
Did we run many, or ANY screens in the 2nd half last week?
Did we run a single reverse, or misdirection play in the second half last week?
Williams can only do SO much with zero time... So get the ball out of his hands and into some "playmaker" hands QUICKER, please!

Orlando's just getting a Cat 5 kiss. Nothing like when Donna hit. Unfortunately, I remember that.

Old Skool... I was in Miami when Donna hit.
I'll never forget the next day, seeing a chain link fence totally wrapped up like someone had spun it around a spool. (CHAIN LINK! How does that even happen with so little surface area?)
I cannot imagine what is happening to Freeport right now... (Luckily, Dorian is passing somewhat to the North.)

You'd have to presume...and the new coaching staff should easily be able to sell this...that the OL issues will be corrected by the time Van Dyke and especially Garcia arrive on campus.

Man I remember the day before Donna hit, carrying our surfboards out to the end of the jetties and jumping in. You would get one terrifying ride for a couple seconds.
Imagine someone shooting you out of a cannon through a car wash, and into a solid wall. yeah just like that...ahh to be 13 again.

So, we are "stuck" in Amsterdam for another day. Could think of worse places to get stuck!
Got off of the river cruise ship and are staying in hotel overnight. Flying out tomorrow at 1:30 to Washington DC on KLM Airlines. Thankfully, we bought trip insurance so all hotel charges and flight and airline changes are covered for free.
See you when I see you!

Thank you CGNC. I was a bit young to know much more than I went through in Orlando. Consequently, I never knew about all the damage elsewhere. My frame of reference was much larger when Cleo arrived.

Of course, there was one other big event in Miami during the months before Cleo hit: The Beatles came to town.

Yes solar I have heard that the OL/QB play was gonna get much better since Romberg, Bibla, Sherko-Haji, Gonzalez, and McKinney were on the line and Kenneth Simon Dorsey was at QB....somehow someway....it has not quite panned out....actually not even close!!!!! This OL has a long long way to go to be that...better get working lifting hustling and learning...coaches and players!!!
Soup....uh while in Amsterdam....uh hmmm.....might you bring a sweet treat back to your family?.....LOL!!!!!
Hope you and Mrs 86 had fun safe travels home...you both deserve it...glad you had a good time!!!!

Yeah, like Old Skool said, I was too young, (6), to know about the catastrophic damage Donna dealt out up the entire eastern seaboard.
But, I can still remember what a massive wreck our neighborhood was in North Dade.

That’s good news! Njoku will add a lot of depth to the Canes TE position group. I wonder how close Njoku is to contributing and will he see reps with Jordan and Mallory ahead of him and Irvin receiving no reps against UF? He is noticeably taller than his brother and taller than Jordan and even Mallory, but not as muscular. He is a legitimate 6’6”, and IMO, could present matchup problems with ACC safeties and LBs.
Posted by: BigWindyCane | September 03, 2019 at 07:18 PM
Make a big difference matchupwise.....if the OL ever figures out how to block....I grade my guys on O and D...that OL does not get a number....They get a DX...suck it...they sucked badly!!!!! got to get better!!!! FAST!!!!!!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | September 03, 2019 at 08:55 PM
Speaking of Mallory... he was one of my major disappointments in Game 1 Week 0.
After all of the preseason hype, he contributed... zero?
I feel like we need to find a way to get him involved...
Well... hopefully, Saturday...
Posted by: roachcane77 | September 03, 2019 at 09:01 PM
Martell and Pornboy are not needed...cut their ride at end of season...they both suck....Martell is not a WR...he sucks....PB is horrible FK them both get rid of them ASAP....we need real QBs not has beens washed up HS promises.....they both are very average players...cannot contribute...get rid of the fools!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | September 04, 2019 at 01:00 AM
Im not ready to move on from those guys just yet. We don't even know if williams is the guy yet. And I think Tate will add something to the WR group, especially if other guys continues to not step up.
Posted by: UMike | September 04, 2019 at 06:39 AM
I think Martell works really hard from what I read. People seem to like him or hate him. I think Enos likes having a guy beside Dallas as a multi threat.
We are going to see a lot more formations this week IMO
I feel the UNC qb might be over confident starting the game, and if we don't shut him down from the get go their whole team will feed off it.
They are going to be on Jordan the whole game so some receiver has to step up.
Posted by: solarcane | September 04, 2019 at 10:32 AM
We don't cut scholarship players who work hard and want to be here.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | September 04, 2019 at 10:41 AM
Ouch
Mallory earned 26 snaps against Florida and was targeted three times and caught zero of those balls. Only offensive tackle John Campbell graded out worse than Mallory

Mallory - not only o-3 but a CRITICAL holding call that was one of 3 or 4 key plays that cost us the game!
Also, why is everyone giving Tate a hard time? The guy is a talent, has speed, works hard and can help us!
Also, why is the coaching staff or no one else talking about the absolutely stupid ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ by blades?
Lastly, when are we going to get a real special teams coach and actually recruit a kicker vs ours, who every time he kicks, your clueless as to if he’s going to make it.
Posted by: AeroCane | September 04, 2019 at 11:50 AM
Defensively I think it’s critical we get Rousseau and hill more snaps. Even the true freshman DE. I like patchen, but just not the talent of the 3 I mentioned. They will put pressure on the freshman QB and complete it with sacks!
Posted by: AeroCane | September 04, 2019 at 11:54 AM
NCAA keeping bolden from playing - what a shame as he’s a critical piece in my mind and will ultimately replace carter
Good news - hopefully we will get to see lingard

Question of when his eligibility clock would begin for his entry to transferring away from his former institution and how that would make his eligibility at his destination delayed until he's sat out the stipulated amount to be eligible again. If you announce you want to leave but don't actually do the information submission to start to go, you're not on your way out and thus don't get to play immediately without a waiver otherwise when you finally get around to finding a new program to join.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | September 04, 2019 at 09:07 PM
UNC rushed for 238 yards against South Carolina, and the Canes cannot allow that to happen against UNC. Looking for Jon Ford and the DTs and Shaq and the LBs to continue to shut down the run. The DBs need to tackle better. All hands on deck.
If the Canes get more yards rushing than UNC, and win the turnover battle, then I will feel pretty good about a Canes win. If the Canes also protect Jarren and cut the penalties down, then I feel pretty good that it will be a comfortable win for the Canes!
