So according to the Amway Coaches Poll we are Ranked 29th! I can live with that. Now let's Finish the Year 9th or better. Go Canes!

VA Cane

Very few of those people on TV or in the press really understand the game; tv talking head idiots. Bayless, Cowherd, Steven A Dumbass, Max Kellerman, Nick Wright, Lebatard, Joy Taylor, Jenna Wolf the unwashed Golicks, Greeny, Wingo.....they got an opinion just like a lot of people. These people just say it in stupid ways with no reason as to why. Players tend to understand the game better, give better insight!

Its a crap shoot for everybody. Clemson, Bama, GA, OK, OSU should be good....Clemson should start at 1 they are champs. After those teams it wide open.

We must beat FL to have a strong year. If we show up like LSU, it will be tough on the kids all year. We win, we feel good and have a favorable schedule and can have a good year. We are not contenders on the big stage, but our division is certainly reachable. We could be 12-0 before Clemson proves we are not there yet, but its a start. I am going for 1 at a time, heck with the rankings now...just play them...1 at a time.

Harry Miller

Let's start by beating the Gators first, How great would that be. I am coming 2,840 miles to see it.

solarcane

VA,
I think the same thing about the Florida game. We win the kids will totally believe The New Miami hype.
We get manhandled like LSU, the kids will lose a lot of the confidence and swag they established.
Either way, we don't win at least 10 games, the season was the same old same old

VA Cane

So true solar we really need to win the FL game first things first. We focus on that,it gives us confidence, the coaches confidence, and a think a plus for recruiting for the FL schools. A letdown...like last year puts a damper on the season right at the start. Yes we can bounce back...but do we? I fell very good about the D. O...dont know. I am not a PB fan, but if he is looking the best, puts his past behind him and can play...and lead go with it. Maybe Tates the guy.....just play the best competitor...and if he cannot handle it early...do not be afraid to play the other. Competition is the way to go!!!
I am looking forward to the game!!!!!
Windy some thoughts from you, Cocane, and all others is appreciated!!! Throw down friends!!!
Go Canes Beat UF!!!!!!

Solar,
I can see 10-2 as well as I can see 12-0. Hopefully Manny will have them playing like the Canes of old where we beat these punk teams up, like Virginia and the rest of these scrub teams in the coastal and make their home field ours. Being rude guest is what The Herb is trying to suggest.

TonyCane

If we go 12-0 and play Clemson, that means a lot of things have worked. Our QB has emerged. Offensive playmakers have stepped up and our defense has remained stout.

So why is it impossible to beat Clemson?

The Canes have had the talent over the last few years, but they have consistently struggled to show it on game day. The Coastal and this weak schedule lines up nicely this season for the Canes. It’s time for the Canes to finally take advantage of this, and beat the teams they are favored to beat (UNC, BCU, UCM, VT, UVa, GT, Pitt, FSU, ULouiv., FIU and Duke), and also pull off the occasional upset (UF) like Jimmy and Schnelly used to.

In the words of the late Al Davis, “Just win baby!” And everything else will take care of itself!

Nothing is impossible. And there are enough variables in football to make few games a guaranteed lock. Miami vs Clemson is not Savannah State vs Clemson.

Yes, the quarterback was knocked out even still...a team of 2 and 3 star athletes almost knocked Clemson off last year.

I refuse to concede any game.

Harry Miller

I think we need to wait until we beat fl. St.. If that happens then we can start to think about the possibility of beating Clemson. Getting that far undefeated means our Qb situation is going well and will be getting better each game along with tour offense line. We will have confidence . Nothing is impossible in college foot ball. Especially with our speedy wide receivers and two good tight ends.

Could all end if Florida stomps our arse like
LSU. I am going to stick with the new coaches.I guess i am just a Canes die hard.

You gotta believe.

No resolution in UM QB battle in scrimmage last night; all 3 QBs led one TD drive, but the QBs did throw two picks to Gurvin Hall. DIAZ didn’t say who threw the interceptions or what were the stats for each, but turnovers can be a basis for determining who eventually starts. I don’t have a preference, and trust Enos to develop and pick the right starter. 71% completion rate for the QBs is very very encouraging. To me, this shows the incredible impact of Enos.

Deejay and Harley both had great scrimmages according to DIAZ. No full stats offered by UM, so I cannot tell what this means. Everything else I heard is pure unsubstantiated rumors.

Posted by: TonyCane | August 04, 2019 at 02:22 PM

That was Lawrence’s very first start and he got knocked out of the game. Kelly was gone, another 5 Star QB had already transferred.

So yes they struggled with Syracuse, with their 4th string guy who’d never played a down.

If we get to Charlotte this year we have ZERO chance of beating them.

BigWindyCane1

LOL, Roach and Soup!

I have heard conflicting reports about who threw the interceptions and who ran in the TD as opposed to throwing it in. But I do think the INTs will be a deciding factor, along with having an ability to make plays and to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers. No matter how you slice it, 71% completion is very very impressive improvement and Enos deserves the credit. I think the offense will be much improved this year.

I have no evidence of this, but I think Enos and CMD have an idea of who they are going to start, but haven't said it yet. IMO, each QB has drastically improved but the QB battle is still close enough so that they will have all 3 QBs feel that they got a fair shot so that they don't immediately hit the transfer portal.

But after next week, they need to starting QB to settle in and develop some chemistry with the starters.

I have seen this movie and liked the ending....

VA Cane

Clemson is loaded in key spots...they lost some good kids but with 2 NCs in 3 years they ARE winning and beating Bama....and kids want to go and play where you win....and we win kinda sorta....26 -13 last 3...lost 2 of 3 bowl games....and if it had not been for our D it would have been far worse.
I am realistic....we have not put the 3 phases together in a season really since Fiesta....so its not so attractive to come play here....yet. If I want to play football, the nightlife, campus beach etc dont mean a thing. I want to go where you are going to win, get an education, be on tv, get noticed and drafted. When you win big time, on the big stage in the big games, you get talent. I think since 03, we have not attracted the most talented kids so many decommits...and the coaching has been mediocre at best.
I like what I see so far; maybe we are getting it together in all 3 phases! FL is ranked 8 in coaching poll...one game at a time, lets get them in our sights focus and win!!! Thats a start. Dont think we beat Clemson...yet...but lets get there 1 game at a time!!!

herbieibis

Yeah Va Cane, we have 2 squads of 4 star decommits the last 2 years. Got to stop that steady leak. The biggest games for us is Flo. & FSU. Got to win both and if we do stubble against one at least look good in doing so. Got to get these high schoolers excited about coming to Da U.
We ain't beating Clemson this year, if we get there. They should average 42 pts a game with little sweat. Their Dee won't be as good but it doesn't have to be.

solarcane

If we get to Charlotte this year we have ZERO chance of beating them.

Understood. And I'm not worried about Clemson right now. I'm concerned with the Gators. It's a very difficult game for us.

But IF we get to the ACC Championship game undefeated, I stand by the statement that this meant that Manny Diaz and co were able to accomplish quite a lot with a talented roster, and at that juncture there are no guaranteed winners, merely favorites.

thirstybuzzardcane

Tate threw some some darts in perfect locations in those highlights. Tate threw a TD which was not reported by Barry Jackson. I have a feeling Tate wiil be our starter!

2005?!? I watched that game at some bar in disbelief at those “upstart” tigers. Incredible game but bad omen of things to come. One program going in one direction and the other going the opposite.

Solar - Congrats on your granddaughters achievements! I’ve been off blog most all summer but did drop in and see that she’s basically kicking azz. That’s very cool.

BigWindyCane1

According to multiple reports of the Canes practice today, there are a few lineup changes. Brevin Jordan was injured, so Mallory was playing with the 1s. I think Mallory is poised for a big year. Harley is running with the 1s after a big night at St. Brenden's scrimmage, and Payton (my freshman LOF along with Harvey) and Hightower have moved up the chart.

OL John Campbell was the first team right tackle in place of Kai-Leon Herbert, and all other OL spots remained the same. This appears to be a positive sign for the Canes OL in that OGs and OTs are remaining at their more natural positions, and Nelson seems to be hanging in there at LT.

The Canes continued to rotate the QBs. Its hard to tell what Enos and CMD are planning to do, but I am certain that whoever they pick, we will have a productive QB running a very productive offense.

Appears to be very few changes to the two-deep on defense. Blades, Hall and Carter are running with the 1s along with the lock, Bandy. The starting DL is the same, but getting a little thin at DT with Silvera out and Nnoruka injured.

I get the feeling that CMD and Blake Baker will run more with the striker, Finley, than with McCloud starting, but McCloud can also offer depth by backing up Shaq and Pinkney, who should be first team All ACC.

Kicking game looks good with Headley and Baxter.

VA Cane

One thing in the article that really peeves me is the delay of game and false starts!! There is no reason to jump when you know the snap count....call the play get your azz on the ball and go! I really get hot at those errors...my guys know I cannot accept. Its not stupidity....just lack of focus.
The Hall kid sounds good...my concerns are the OL and QB....they have to be on the same page for us to get the ball to dynamic playmakers....starts up front and at QB. Hope this will work out!

Terrance Sullivan

Preach VA!

solarcane

DTX,
Thanks! It's always good to see you around

Miami Herald

Miami tested out a new defensive alignment — new to outside viewers, at least — at the start of a team period. The Hurricanes ran out a unit with only three defensive linemen and six defensive backs. Jonathan Garvin, Jonathan Ford and Scott Patchan were the defensive linemen, with Shaquille Quarterman and Michael Pinckney as the only two traditional linebackers. In the secondary, Miami used Al Blades Jr. and DJ Ivey as the cornerbacks, with Trajan Bandy in the slot and Amari Carter and Robert Knowles as the traditional safeties. Gurvan Hall, who had two interceptions in Sunday’s scrimmage, was in the box playing a striker-type role.

Very interesting alignment. I like it. On obvious passing downs, this would allow exotic blitzes from any combination of the LBs or DBs, and also provide enough support to stop the run.

Not sure how many of you are 60s music fans...the 60s and 70s were a mecca of the greatest music ever...JMO. I grew up in the 60s and its so special in many ways. In March it was announced that a 50th Anniversary of Woodstock would be released in a wood box with a lot of cool stuff..I jumped on it and pre-ordered. It was not cheap at all!!!...but the key attraction is that it is 38 cds, 432 tracks, almost every song played at Woodstock on 8 16-18 1969 and Jimi Hendrix performance on 8/19/69 in the morning. It is awesome a beautiful collection of Woodstock..... really unreal if you like that time like me....it is very collectible...only 1,969 (the year of the festival) made and don't think they will ever reproduce it...a rare collectible piece...I got a discount but still was expensive....but saw it on ebay tonight for $1,300 $1,750 2 and 2.5 times original cost and it will only go up!!

Research analytics shows that the average Canespace blogger loses about 30 minutes of work/day. So if you multiply 30 minutes x 5 work days a week that eqauls 2.5 hours/week.

Then times 50 weeks (- two weeks for vacation) equals 125 hours per year. Then 125 hours times 13 years equals 1,625 hours lost blogging or about 40 WEEKS (40 hours/week) or 200 days of real work time lost.

Now, actual time lost depends on your actual usage time/day so it could be twice as much or somewhat less than this depending on your level of addiction to Canespace.

- NCAA torpitude
