Hello?

Harry Miller

Who's that.

alpine

that's a well-written article!

i remember: liking richt's back flip; liking golden's orange tie (and his rush to the field re: player's broken leg); liking the feeling randy gave me about locking down SoFl recruiting

i hope that in a few years i will not be adding: liking manny's TNM

Great article Soup!

IraqiCane

I think that Jake Garcia going to USC has more to do with potentially 3 more years of Jarren Williams than bad OLine play. Just my 2 cents.

Go Canes!!

He committed to USC because the #1 QB in the country just flipped to Bama after being committed to the Trojans for over a year.

VA Cane

Good article.....however I would say 2000, 01, and 02 were the real years best team ever!!!....03 we were not the best team on the field....not with Brock Berlin at QB. VT beat our azz and we couldn't find the end zone vs TN....good team but not real good!

The chance to 3 peat was 2000-02! Didn't get the call in 2000 NCAA cronies, and got cheated in 02 NCAA cronies at Fiesta in 1/03...last real UM teams!!!

16 years of really bad football....there has not been a good team since...nada!! I thought Coker was a good OC not HC. Onion was a good DC a horrible person and you knew he would fail he was a politically correct promo from ther midget Golden was no proven HC....a fat JoPa slob who could not coach. CMR a burn out from the SEC who was good at times, but never a top tier guy. Now its the same thing with CMD....good DC....not looking good as a HC.

The problem is this....we stopped looking for real upbeat on top of football HCs. Clappy was players wants, Onion a PC move, Golden a false prophet, CMR a has been, and CMD a reach out of desperation....you do not win like this...and now you have all but dried up the recruiting pipeline...nobody wants to play Cookman on the ACCN....they want to play Clemson or Bama for the title and go to the NFL!!

Even worse, we have nothing to offer just look at the last 16 years. Screw the beach, the nightlife, the pro stadium, storm trooper garb, adidas, turnover chain, fat slow linemen, divas, and crybabies.... give me the dirty haunted OB, the old UM players a Rohan killer hit and let me win!!! ..until we get a real coach with a real plan who will kill to win...literally kill....we will be in this rut til doomsday!!! I am tired of the bulls**t...winning is not beating Cookman and CMU...its beating Bama OSU OK, Clemson Wisky...I want to win not be embarrassed!!!
Mic drops...

VA Cane

Miami is a Natural Light football power whose fans thirst for Veuve Clicquot, and they’ve barely taken a sip of what Manny Diaz is pouring before deciding they want to spit it out. Seriously, it’s crazy,” Wolken writes. “The narrative around Diaz has gone from 'hometown hero' to 'in over his head' before his first season is even halfway over"

Ouch....sad but true I hear paintbrushes and paint cans opening, and the plane engine being tuned up....people are tired of losing

Yea CGNC! It’s like seen ghosts from a bad era.
We got 3 years of manny, hate it or love it. Let’s hope he delivers.
Here’s a thought: what if we get Urban Myer and the same shit happens?
Just a thought!

BigWindyCane1

The Canes coaches have a bye week heading into the ACC schedule, and they have four games of film to assess what talent that they have.

On offense, it is pretty obvious that Nelson and Clark are not ready to start at OL at the University of Miami. Starting Clark has really a head-scratcher for me. I have seen him miss too many blocks both in the run game and in the passing game for me to understand.

I don't like criticizing players, but I have to also wonder why the coaches would start them?

Under Mark Richt, Al Golden and Randy Shannon, there were never a two OLs who so clearly didn't belong. At least Nelson can run block from time-to-time, but he really is probably the worst pass blocking LT in the ACC, and definitely the weakest pass-blocking LT for the Canes in the last three decades. It is frankly embarrassing.

Either the Canes need to play someone on the bench, or drastically change its game plan.

Hopefully, our coaches have seen that the Canes OL (namely Clark and Nelson) will not allow the Canes to run certain pro style concepts consistently.

As several of you have said, the Canes MUST go to the spread and RPO, and design their entire offense around those concepts.

They have two weeks to work on it.

I had high expectations for this year as everyone
Knows, it hasn't worked out at all. It.s time to sit back and see how it turns out in the end.
Hopefully the end is better then the start. Can't be any worse. Wait maybe it can be if we don't start improving.
I am to old for this crap, but I will keep watching and hoping for the best. You never know.

I just want to say my granddaughter is an elite softball player and plays for Antioch Senior High

Bailee holds a 4.05 Grade point average. Travels all over the west coast playing for her elite team. Has a great chance for a scholarship. I started showing her how to throw like a boy when she was 4 years old and to get the bat on the ball. Bailee is now a starting pitcher and second baseman. Leads the team in most hitting categorizes and most of all is a Christian girl with high standards. I can't be more proud of Her.

BigWindyCane

Raize and TSully,

It all starts with coaching. I am not going to bet my house on it, but I hope 🤞 our coaches find a way to maximize our players’ strengths and minimize their weaknesses so they aren’t exposed. That’s has been the hallmark of good coaching since the sport of football was created.

I heard CMD brought in former Canes RB/ST Coach Soldinger to help consult on special teams issues. I hope that is true! It’s not a cure-all, but it’s a start

A true, honest to Schnelly's pipe, dyed in the feather CONCERN troll on the blob! Haven't had one of these in a while, and wouldn't you know who won the pony to try and echo chamber up the concern trolling, why it's the sid-tard answer to a question no one on Canespace cares about enough to ask in the first place GD, what a shock!

"Posted by: AfriCane | September 23, 2019 at 01:51 PM"

You first you pathetic excuse-pleading coach-slurping-loser. How's that under .500 season treating attendance so far? Worse than under fatso and doofus I see. At least Fake Lames still is employed to keep the football team dumpster fire roaring with fuel from his shit hires of unqualified losers though so you can parrot his talking points on here, after we were so close to missing out on that until the promotion from within off a staff that never won shit got done due to Fake Lames' incompetence and yes-man sniveling hiring process playing out yet again. Put like that, no wonder you want some more, huh?

"Posted by: raizecane | September 24, 2019 at 07:13 AM"

How many exciting replays did that game get stopped for that day Noel? Think this was the 2013(???) Chokie game during which they kept fumbling away center/QB exchanges and afterwards your usual gang of slurpers wanted everyone to leave the shitty coaching staff alone for a week due to the other team's incompetence being a 'good' sign for the dumpster fire football program snuffing out the problem. It wasn't and the staff continues to flounder all this time later, no wonder I stopped spending money on the product years ago! But who needs to remember that when GD says fatso's dead to him now like GD should earn a belly rub from Fake Lames for it by announcing it here when everyone laughs at GD for his pom pom waving being transparently pathetic? With 'fans' like that, who needs a coaching search that extends past the length of the hallway? At least if you don't care about empty seats, who cares?

solarcane

We should have moved to the FCS division 10 years ago. Played competition at the level we could compete for championships, beat a big school once in awhile, then eventually move back into the big league.

When you see Appalachian State teams and fans you see a program that is happy to be competive, loves its team, can play just about anyone even on a good day.

We are continuously over rated, under coached and out played by the Appalachian States of the world.

Sarasota 'cane

Army has 5 historic National Championships.

Georgia Tech has 5 historic National Championships.

solarcane

When Appalachian State did move up to to the big league they also had the sense to go into the Sunbelt Conference where the could still throttle people.
We have too much pride, we would rather be a 5th place in conference power 5 school than a smaller conference champion.jmo

solarcane

Sota you are correct

Sarasota 'cane

The problem is the $$$$$$. UM would never leave the prestige of being in the ACC and they love cashing the checks.

And with that said there is a formula for winning again if you get the right staff. I'm not flying the banner yet, but I'm gassing up the plane...

Grrrrrrr 'canes!

alpine

like many programs, we sometimes play down to our competition
. . . but despite the recent central michigan mess, we usually beat the cmu's, fiu's and appy states and sometimes we even crush them

i like where we are (acc coastal)

and we are beating va tech thoroughly in 2 weeks to begin our run, despite the many problems holding down our team

but baxa needs to be practicing his kicks with topless cheerleaders rushing him = practice getting his focus where it needs to be

trying to say, that i don't believe there are 97 qb's out there, better than jarren
. . . but he also hasn't wow'ed me in any way
- his passing is way better than the low bar set by rosier
- but there's a certain type of excitement that nkosi brought to the QB position, (despite his own problems; particularly turn-overs), that i miss seeing . . . a certain urgency mixed with fun, instead of the more cool, controlled, play-by-the-book demeanor that he has

IraqiCane

I think the reason Jarren is so low is due to the massive amount of sacks.

alpine

iraqi: what you said makes sense

go: agree about mccloud; been hoping (but not really expecting) it would go down that way

AeroCane

Jarren has done NOTHING to take control of the team and games - he is a very average ‘game manager’ and nothing more. I’d rather have a guy sling it around, throw an interception here and there, but get us TD’s! I would bet only GO and BigWindy have the confidence that he could actually drive us down and score a winning TD. I doubt it - if yes, we be 4-0 albeit a very ugly 4-0. JMO

solarcane

Aero,
This might be the poorest o line ever at the U. With Williams inability to split second decide to tuck and run or throw the ball away they add up to a 98th ranked qb.
Watch a couple of clips of Marino at Pitt or later with the Dolphins, he knew instantly if a play wasn't there.

Williams seems to wait til a receiver is completely open before he releases the ball, then he gets dumped. Enos is supposed to be able to fix that.

Posted by: solarcane | September 25, 2019 at 03:04 PM

I agree. Solar, I am pretty sure I have said this on this blog before, although I like Jarren's potential, it is just potential at this point. I agree that Jarren has to see a receiver is open before he throws the ball. That accounts for his struggles on getting sacked and lack of a deep ball. Enos has designed an offense with simple reads and throws, and I believe that accounts for his impressive completion percentage.

I have seen JT4 open deep, but Jarren either doesn't throw it, doesn't see JT4 open until he is out of range or throws it short.

Jarren hasn't connected with JT4 on a deep pass. The one deep pass he connected with against BCC with Pope was a little short and should have been a long TD, not just a long completion. Jarren threw it late and short.

Enos may have to design some deep routes to do what his short routes do, so the WR can break across the QB's vision. Enos needs to rely on RPOs and spread until this offensive line and Jarren develop more. That is what good coaches do - play to his team's strengths and avoid your weaknesses.

Perry has more arm talent and more elusiveness in the pocket than Jarren, but Perry was also more turnover prone, inaccurate, and just couldn't read simple defenses last year. It seems Perry would be more accurate under Enos, but Enos didn't want to risk his job by relying on Perry again.

Jarren's interviews haven't impressed me. His "step on their throats" comments leave much to be desired when the Canes play the way they did against CMU.

I frankly have reserved judgment on Jarren until I see him win more. Jarren is the first UM QB to throw his first 100 passes without an INT. Jarren also might be one of the first (or few) UM QBs to start his career 0-2 as a starter. If the Canes leave this homestand and head to Pitt at 5-2, then I will feel better about Jarren moving forward. With the heart of the ACC schedule coming up, Jarren will have to hit those deep throws and trust his WRs if the Canes are going to win.

solarcane

Pale Horse Dude,OGV,Soup,Terrence and many others might be right about Manny being in over his head as HC at the moment.

Thinking how Jimmy Johnson would run the guys till after dark for dogging a practice without explaining to the press the psychology involved in puking your guts out

I read Manny explaining why his Canes can't score points...seems they are just inherently lazy, something he might have noticed last July and fixed by season's start?

“Human inertia is to be average and mediocre. That current and that gravitational pull sucks you down every day. And so it just doesn’t happen where all of a sudden everyone is like, ‘I’m going to come in here and bring my best every day.’ That is quite literally why they call us coach — to make sure that it happens

Tough job that only Raize and Captain N Coke can accomplish.

CGNC

Happy to hear about Don Soldinger. I think with bringing him in, Manny knows he needs help there which is a positive. He also knows that not everyone is giving it 100% which he is trying to fix. Hopefully he is successful.

As far as joining a lower conference 10 years ago, the problem was that Donna Shasha was dismantling and changing the culture...and trying to not make it look like that.

Herbieibis

Coker could get 5 star players but he turned them into 3 star flame outs.
If our offense is auditioning for future players then we're are stuck forever with under the radar cruits and the basic ACC record of 7-5 for eternity.
SPaaaaaRED Danny! WE DO NOT HAVE THE OH LINE PERSONELL TO RUN A PRO STYLE. Maybe inside the 10 or anywhere we have a yard or less and this is once I. A while.
The QB is fine. Least he ain't color blind. With that line it's a wonder, he isn't on IR.

Terrance Sullivan

If Donna Shalala was trying to kill the Program She wouldn't along. With Paul Dee the AD at the Time wouldn't have let us Join The ACC we would have stayed in the Big East and be in the AAC getting 1/10 of the Revenue of The ACC and Power 5 Conferences. Because It's Funny That The Men President Because they didn't care about The Athletic Program either especially Tad Foote but To each their Own.

CGNC

Tsully, respectfully agree to disagree. Not bashing "the woman", lmao I am a woman. Or saying she tried to kill the program. But she changed the culture, or should I say the culture changed while she was President. We joined the ACC for more $$$ is what I am guessing. At least now we are spending $$ on coaching, now we need to just find someone to hire the right ones, our current President needs to fire Blake James.

solarcane

Sad thinking what good fans we are on here and all over the country to endure the mediocre product that the University of Miami has spoon fed us for over a decade.

They take for granted a new coach every 4 years entitles them to a complete do over. They expect the next generation of Cane fans to go along for the ride just like every Miami fan before them did.

I used to laugh at the fans that said we should boycott the games.
I will always be a Miami fan but a realistic fan. We are not going anywhere, anytime.

Posted by: solarcane | September 25, 2019 at 08:01 PM

His first season here Jimmy blew the biggest lead in NCAA history, 31-0 to Maryland at halftime and lost the Hail Flutie BACK TO BACK weeks. He also got blown out 38-3 by FSU.

Butch was 0-10 against FSU and VT his first five seasons and was lucky to survive that 5-6 season.

They went on to greatness.

Larry Coker went undefeated for nearly two straight seasons. Same with Erickson. Both those coaches won titles then left our programs in shambles..

Point is, not sure what Manny's going to end up being.

Only know it's too soon to know for sure.

Go
Jimmy had HC experience and had beaten mighty Oklahoma as a coach at osu; we knew it would take a year or so for him to get going; no one was panicking however unhappy; Butch was in a terrible situation and we couldn’t do anything about it; Coker took over maybe the most talent on a college team ever and ended up destroying the U; we’ve never been above average since! So I’m saying is you can twist the facts anyway you want, but I’m going to see them realistically while you and some others always twist them to your liking JMO
My concern with manny - no HC experience and no true pedigree; Kirby at Georgia had no HC experience but had a pedigree, and was trained by saben

To be fair this is a valid point and needs honest consideration.

And as I have pointed out previously Jimmy was handcuffed his first year by being forced to keep two major assistants (OC and DC) who wanted the job, didn't get it and sabotaged the season either directly or indirectly. Manny does not have that same scenario.

We ALL want Manny to succeed.

We ALL thought he would succeed.

And the same could be said for Randy Shannon and Mark Richt, but we know how that turned out.

Manny was received by the fans in a very positive and accepting manner. Now he has to fight his way through this season and earn our respect, trust and support while winning enough to recruit for the future.

His stock rose slightly in the strong effort against the Gators but dropped significantly in the loss to UNC a team we had TWO WEEKS to prepare for and should have beaten. His stock rose once again after whalloping BCC but then sunk after the putrid perfromance against CMU.

He will rightly be judged game to game and over the entire season when it ends. The fans would be wise to withold final judgement until the season is over and the "big picture" can be evaluated.

But it is right and just to criticize specific areas of the team and coaching when their performance extremely poor or unacceptable.

I believe that most reasonable and rational fans here would agree that the OL, special teams, 3rd and fourth down defense, 3rd down offense and penalities/discipline are so far unacceptable.

So it is really this simple: Manny needs to fix some, most or all of these areas if they are to win more games, please the fans and attract the recruits. Time will tell.

Also remember that as an independent in 1984 Johnson and Miami beat pre-season #1 Auburn in the kickoff classic, beat #17 Florida, beat #16 Notre Dame. They lost to #14 Michigan, #15 FSU and #10 BC.

They lost by 2 points to #14 UCLA in the Fiesta Bowl and finished the season ranked #18 averaging 30 PPG and giving up 24 PPG.

Let's put expectations aside, keep an open mind and see where we end up in December. Then a fair assessment can be made by all.

LOL we were coming off a National Championship Season and Jimmy was not on the Staff so Throw that comparison out Apples to Oranges U can also throw out The Ericson Comparison he was also someone who was not on the Staff previously Thats also Apples to Oranges the 2 Fair Comparisons are Coker who was the OC for All of Butch Tenure Here and Shannon who was DC for all of Coker Tenure Here. So The JJ, DE, BD, AG comparisons do not apply to MD only LC and RS!

LMBAO off at We have not Been Above Average Since So i guess the 2016(Final Ranking #20 out of 130 Teams) and 2017(Final Ranking #13 out of 130 Teams) Seasons didnt happen or you were living under a Rock Aero(And I know you were not because you were posting on here. Cut The Foolishness Out Bro! Trying To compare Randy/Al 7-6 Average Yearly Teams to Mark 9-4 Average Yearly Teams are comical on here. They are not the same and stop trying to keep typing and saying that foolishness. Randy and Al Teams usually were complete afterthoughts that had 1 Good Year in a 4 Year Cycle and 1 losing Season in their 4 Year Cycle, Mark had 2 Good Teams in his 3 Year Cycle and 1 other Winning Season(even though extremely mediocre. I love this Blog to no end but some of the over the top mindless takes are beyond hysterical its bordering on Sad.
