You had one job: Kick the ball through the uprights.
All we asked was for you to make an easy field goal or a simple extra point.
And Bubba blew it.
UM Kicker Bubba Baxa had one job. The job was handed to him on a silver platter. Bubba took the platter, turned it upside down and then proceeded to apparently melt it down into nothing.
The Hurricanes kicking issues have been a source of frustration throughout the first half of the season that seemingly culminated in the Virgina Tech game when Bubba Baxa missed an extra point that would have put the Hurricanes on top late in the fourth quarter.
Against Virginia, the Hurricanes called on walk-on Turner Davidson to handle placekicking duties and the redshirt sophomore – who learned he'd be starting just after warmups were completed – converted on both of his point-after attempts and delivered a 19-yard field goal, too.
His reaction when he learned he'd be kicking Friday? "Don't miss," he said.
He didn't.
In the end, Bubba missed too many kicks allowing Davidson to get his opportunity. He took advantage of that opportunity and is likely going to be Miami's starting kicker going forward. We are not sure if he will become the next Matt Bosher or not but we are excited for this young man and his future.
The kicker has one job.
Davidson so far is perfect.
Now ain't that a kick in the pants?
Nice article
Go canes!

If you watch every game and just concentrate on where J4 is when 15 or 5 should let it rip, you will shake your head.

Agree 100%. He may or may not be a great route runner but he is usually faster than any DB he goes up against and as a result is usually wide open for an easy 6. How our QBs and coaches don't see it or do anything about it I have no idea.

They say Baxa tried to enter the transfer portal, but he went wide right and they told him to sit down

Herald:
And after Wednesday’s practice, Diaz didn’t rule out the possibility of this week’s kicker being another last-minute decision among Baxa, Davidson and even redshirt freshman Camden Price, who was unavailable the previous two games due to unspecified reasons.“It could,” Diaz said. “We ended practice today, and all three went up there, and they missed one [kick]. And all three went up there, and they made one. It’s something that, the more snaps we put on them and the more pressure we put them under, the better off they’ll be for that. So, right now, that race is still ongoing.”

So we might be in for one or two more of those bubbaxastrous kicks.

Also since this finally got an answer time to address it before noon:

Gave a prediction of around 59,905 announced for last week Friday and . . . 54,538
for 83% capacity was the final official claim for attendance. So 5,400 or so checked out due to the poor start to the season this year or didn't bother wrestling with traffic from work to the game this time to start the weekend.

Me too, the coaches say he works hard and learns fast, I think they throw him a bone to keep the transfer portal closed.
I predict we’ll see Tate this Saturday with plays specifically designed for him.

Turner Davidson weighs 143 in college.
Think what he weighed in high school and out up these stats,
High School: Helped Ronald Reagan High School to a 9-2 record as a senior in 2016…Scored 69 points as a senior, making 11 of 15 field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards and converting all 36 PATs… Averaged 56.5 yards over 51 kickoffs, including a long of 60 yards in 2016.
