Here we go. Another game day. My heart says the Canes can win this game, but my head tells me that it will be a tall task just to look respectable.

Right now, my assessment of CMD is that he is the least qualified HC MIAMI has had in the last 50 years, but with some breaks, he can maybe become as good as Al Golden. With the Canes sitting at 3-4, following a loss at home to the worst Power 5 team in college football, this Pitt game will tell me a lot. If the Canes play well and win, I will put CMD on par with Golden for the time being. If the Canes lose, then I would rate him lower than Golden for now.

That is what is at stake for me today.

Stop your crying and start rooting for another team if your demented logic is somehow wanting a loss.

I already have! Easy to transition to a Georgia fan her on the coast of GA! Thanks for being so concerned about my feelings. You are just mad because your TEAM sucks balls and you are in for mediocrity the rest of your life. Face it Miami is the WORST team in the power 5 conference and your QB is a broke man's, Jamarcus Russell. Garbage play, garbage coaching, and garbage players. Miami has 5 good players on the entire team. Have fun not bowling this year all because Blake won't take his big head out of his ass and realize that he should fire himself and the whole staff! Somewhere Mark Richt is sitting in a recliner eating cheese puffs laughing at all us!

The continued intensity of your feud and the tenacity with which U pursue “GD” is actually awe-inspiring, OGV. I’m not sure I understand WHY but I do give U points for consistency and dedication.

Good morning,

I encourage everyone to enjoy time with their families today. We need to come together and show the University of Miami we demand change! Question for those of you that are in the know with the program. When we lose all of our remaining games except FIU, is that enough to get Manny fired in year 1? A record of 4-8, will that get him fired? I hope so because that's what our record will be.

News flash to all the glass is halfway full fans on this blog! We are horrid and not winning tomorrow. I will be hoping we lose big so we can go ahead and rip the low grade Walmart brand band aid off the infected wound oozing with puss. Pathetic display of coaching. I have seen better coaching at the High School level. I will be spending my Saturday afternoon channel surfing various college football games on my 65 inch Samsung 4K tv and checking in on the canes miscues. Shouldn’t be long into the first half when Pitt’s QB carves up our secondary like a turkey. Their backs running all over us and Manny stands in the sideline mirroring Willie at FSU. It is all a game of a chess and let’s hope Miami has a plan. Last thing we need is FSU getting a big time hire. Wake up Canes!

You hit the nail on the head. You sure speak for all of us who follow this team. Its been so long since we were good.....I know others feel different, but after KD11 and Co were gone it never felt the same. I have come to believe that 2003 Fiesta was almost a plot by NCAA and good old boys in the game.....we were too good too dominating....were diverse and had all kinds of kids that fit together....they pulled the plug and have hounded us while others play freely....its painful and numbing....we were so used to winning we were numb....now we are so used to 2003-2019 teams being average at best...we are still numb....great job friend you are awesome....the only thing better is your animation......awesomer!!!! Nice "play" on the Blog Title MLAlumni1970. ("Comfortably Numb")

I am NOT an expert, by any means, but I think we're in for a long, slow, recovery... We currently don't seem to have the correct leadership in place to make a rapid recovery. The ONLY bright spots that I can see is we've got MUCH improved athletic facilities... (Thank you CMR), and CURRENTLY have an excellent strength training program.
Sadly, that's about it... Recruits are jumping ship by the boatload, (pun intended), and coaches are back to just making "pat" excuses and NOT actually fixing anything.
Just my humble opinion...

Pretty good story

MIAMI HURRICANES FOOTBALL
Manny Diaz's 1st Season at Miami Is a Thorough Mess
DAVID KENYON
OCTOBER 25, 2019

Brynn Anderson/Associated Press
Manny Diaz entered a situation in which his new team was built to win immediately.

While the Hurricanes were never a national title contender, they reside in the ever-flailing ACC Coastal Division. Despite the offseason turnover that saw Mark Richt retire and a new offensive staff hired, Miami still had clear advantages with an experienced defense and the highest-recruited skill-position talent in the division.

First-year coaches sometimes get a pass while adjusting to a new situation, but Diaz had spent the last three seasons as Miami's defensive coordinator. He knew the personnel. He saw the weaknesses and addressed them as much as possible through the much-discussed transfer portal―and he did an excellent job of that.

ADVERTISEMENTSCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT
And, yet again, the Hurricanes aren't going to win the Coastal. Most remarkably, that's already clear in October.

The frustrating season has included four one-possession letdowns, starting with a wasted opportunity against Florida (24-20) and a road collapse at North Carolina (28-25). Then in October, Miami lost at home to Virginia Tech (42-35) and Georgia Tech (28-21).

As you'd expect from a head coach, Diaz has recently taken the "glass half-full" approach.

Christy Chirinos

@ChristyChirinos
Diaz: "We're four plays away from being 7-0, but we're not. ... And regardless of what our record says, we have to win today. ... When we look at who we are at our core and how we're building as a program ... the foundation of what we're trying to be, those things have shown up."

More realistically, it's a confluence of errors that has guided Miami to a dismal 3-4 record and questions of whether "The U" will even qualify for a bowl.

In the season opener, Florida committed four turnovers, yet Miami only scored one touchdown in three red-zone trips. Trailing 24-20 late in the fourth quarter, the 'Canes put together a mind-numbing drive that covered four yards on 10 official snaps despite a couple of penalties bailing them out.

An earlier missed 27-yard field goal prevented Diaz from considering a game-winning attempt, which, in hindsight, doesn't appear would've gone well anyway.

Miami's special teams has been a nightmare this year.

Bubba Baxa missed that kick against Florida, then had a game-tying extra point blocked and left a potential 49-yard winner wide at UNC. He missed a go-ahead extra point against Virginia Tech and a go-ahead 27-yard field goal opposite Georgia Tech. Overall, Baxa has missed five field goals and two extra points this season.

Diaz also recently tried Turner Davidson, who missed a pair of short kicks (34 and 25) in the horrible loss to Georgia Tech.

Return man Jeff Thomas fumbled a punt that gifted the Gators a go-ahead score. For good measure, Georgia Tech's Pressley Harvin III threw a 41-yard touchdown on a fake punt.

That's a nauseating collection of mistakes.

With regard to the kicking game, it's a complementary issue. The Hurricanes are 125th nationally with a 67.7 red-zone scoring percentage, and their 55.9 red-zone touchdown rate is 85th. That's also a product of a putrid 29.6 third-down conversion clip, which ranks 125th in the country as well.

So, the offense does a horrible job extending drives and, if it does manage to sustain a possession, breaks down in scoring territory.

Responsibility for that inefficiency partly falls on quarterbacks Jarren Williams and N'Kosi Perry, but largely on coordinator Dan Enos.

MIAMI, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 14: Offensive coordinator Dan Enos of the Miami Hurricanes looks on against the Bethune Cookman Wildcats at Hard Rock Stadium on September 14, 2019 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)
Michael Reaves/Getty Images
Miami has the athletes to spread the field, yet the offense has regularly used tight formations. If the right personnel is there, that's fine. Williams is capable of running that pro-style attack, so the system itself is not a massive problem.

However, the Hurricanes' blocking unit is not capable of consistently winning in congested spaces. They've already ceded 60 tackles for loss (125th nationally) and 31 sacks (127th). Williams' shoulder injury forced Perry into the lineup, yet Enos only slowly adapted to a quarterback best suited for a spread.

In fairness, he's not been a disaster. The 'Canes are legitimately among the more explosive teams in the country; they've totaled 41 gains of 20-plus yards, which ranks 25th nationally. That's pretty good! Simultaneously, it shows the unstable all-or-nothing identity Miami has created for itself in 2019.

The "nothing" part has crushed Miami too often, leaving the defense in a situation where it must be absolutely perfect.

That, quite evidently, has not happened.

FSU has done it 3 times.

Overly criticizing the defense is foolish; it generated four takeaways and allowed 304 yards against Florida. Virginia Tech needed just 91 yards for three touchdowns after Miami turnovers. Georgia Tech's offense only scored once in regulation.

Yet UNC sliced through the defense for a rapid 17-3 lead. The 'Canes apparently had no idea how to cover Virginia Tech tight end Dalton Keene and then missed 29 tackles against Georgia Tech. All four losses include a winning touchdown from the opponent in either the fourth quarter or overtime.

Despite allowing only 4.7 yards per play (23rd) and 20.4 points per game (27th), the defense and first-year coordinator Blake Baker are not without
Miami literally is not good at any phase of football. Not a single one. Complete failure that lays at the feet of Manny Diaz. Put away the chains, the props and the hashtags. Focus on fundamentals... #canes

Looking at the entirety of the current performance, very little has gone right for Diaz in his head coaching debut. His promises of "The New Miami" are nothing but an offseason memory.

Yes, the team is regularly close. That's better than a weekly blowout, right? Sure, a totally botched review prevented the Hurricanes from extending the game against Georgia Tech. But to even be in that situation―in overtime, at home, against a 1-5 Georgia Tech team in the process of the most difficult offensive system overhaul possible―is atrocious.

Is there hope for a turnaround? In theory, yes.

Diaz's defensive background is excellent, and even an average offensive line would help the Hurricanes dramatically.

Relative to its Coastal competition, this is the most talented roster. Miami usually brings in top-25 recruiting classes and is headed for another in 2020. While the division may be improving, it won't hit an unreachable level for the 'Canes.

However, that's the same old story―one that hasn't changed for a decade. And in 2019, we're watching the same old Miami.

That 34 point thing.

In the last two years vs d1 schools how many times have we actually scored 34 points or more? I can only think of 3 games, UNC and VT twice and managed to lose one 34+ to VT.

I remember before the season thinking 34 a game with Enos, J4, Jordan, Dallas, Lingard, Osborn was pretty easy.

At this point, I don't care what he has to do to get his point across. Let the dam crush his effing ego. They should of benched his hard headed ass. GT wasn't going to throw 35 passes.
We have CB's on the team period and only one recruit at this point. We have what, maybe 4 healthy LB's and includes McCloud. We only have 6 WR's, 4 for this game unless they decide to play Payton. Not a whole lot of comp. No telling how many more will hit the portal after the season. If this is a rebuild, the hell with worry so much about the redshirt or play them the 4 games and let's see what they got. I don't see to many players getting better. Look at Harley and Thomas good Ayers but I don't see the next level that they should be taking or Pope, for that matter.
Manny will be here for at least another year but he needs to can a few coaches and bring in some that can motivate, coach and Recruit.

As for DJ Ivey failing to cover that punt, CMD doesn't have to go to the media and throw his players under the bus in order to address the issue - just bench his arse and the problem is solved. If the two backup freshmen aren't ready (which I doubt), at least the message was sent.

I agree 100%! Aside from a failure to follow basic Coaching 101, the personnel decisions made by this coaching staff have been horrible. The lack of player development has been deplorable. You name the position group, and you can question the rotation and the player development.

What CMD doesn't seem to understand is that when players tune a coaches out, it means either that they don't trust or respect the coaches to put them in position to win games.

When players are told pregame to expect certain plays or concepts, and they go out in the first half and see something else, then the players lose trust in the coaches.

As for DJ Ivey failing to cover that punt, the CMD doesn't have to go to the media and throw his players under the bus in order to throw his address that issue - just bench his arse and the problem is solved. If the two backup freshmen aren't ready (which I doubt), at least the message was sent.

No respect and no depth of talent or lack of development. To many me first guys. Listening to a podcast where players were posting pi tires and stats of themselves. Losing doesn't matter. They are not playing as a team.
Maybe Manny was right about one thing and that's getting rid of those type guys that are a cancer.
U have to point blame where it is deserved, they had no business starting 2 freshmen right off the bat or playing a walk on in place of a scholarship guy. Who knew Baxa was going to be a chockaholic.

siIx-pack of Hurricanes notes on a Thursday night:

▪ Canes players kept telling us throughout the offseason - and again this week - how Manny Diaz was a great hire, how much they loved that he was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach.

But do you know what this staff would appreciate far more than any public endorsements?

The players actually doing their jobs and executing what they’re taught. Because I’m not sure what this staff can do when they specifically tell cornerback D.J. Ivey and the defensive backs to be aware of a fake punt and specifically what to do in that scenario, then see Ivey fall asleep and whiff in his responsibilities when Georgia Tech lines up in the same formation and scores on a 41-yard pass-and-catch on a fake punt.

Diaz admitted on WQAM’s Hurricane Hotline this week that what’s irritating is less than an hour before that successful fake punt, when the Yellow Jackets lined up in the exact same formation but punted, “We told our defensive backs it’s imperative we handle the wide outs with a certain technique.” And it was as if that coaching went in one ear and out the other.

“We need to [make sure] players understand the urgency of what we’re demanding,” Diaz said.

Reports in Herald that some players have checked out. Also that they had told Ivey twice (first 2 punts) to be aware of a fake. Players not listening. Disappointed in Donaldson and Garvin's play. Donaldson has regressed to the point of Campbell taking more reps in games.
I mentioned a couple weeks ago that Pinkney, Quarterman, Bandy and Garvin have not played up to expectations. We all can see this, either they have no respect for coaches or they have hit a wall as far as talent goes. Probably a combo of both. Quarterman has played the best but even he hasn't been consistent. We really don't have any backup LB's except Brooks. I think they are taking a powder from time to time because there is no backups to push them. Recruit the position every year and u can have some depth. Quit bringing in the same quality of players.

With 14 million Japanese living in the city limits of Tokyo there are quite a few virgins lying about their status it would seem.

Old Skool

Between this place and the subway growing up female in Japan must be a bitch.

Posted by: solarcane | October 24, 2019 at 08:11 PM

Could be but apparently groping constitutes the only kind of sex millions of Japanese will have this year. The following is from Forbes:

For women between the ages of 18 and 39, a total of 24.6 percent were virgins in 2015, up from 21.7 percent in 1992. Among men of the same age bracket, the percentage without sexual experience increased from 20 percent to 25.8 percent.

So more men than women are virgins in a country where prostitution is legal. Either the porn is really good or the prostitutes are really expensive. Of course, that's what layaway is for.

My wife said the same thing. She said anyone that steps into that water has no regard for their health or safety.

When Jimmie Johnson met CMD in August, this is what Johnson tweeted after their 3 hour conversation:
“Best I have felt about the U in a long time!”

Boy, I'd love to know what he thinks now.

solarcane

last time we went to Pitt weren't we like 10-1 and they were 5-7 with no pass rush?

How did that go for us?

nemo2002

UM paid $4 million to hire CMD away from Temple! Now I'm wondering. How much would UM have to pay to another school to hire CMD away from us?

I dunno nemo,
Taggart and Lovie Smith are two all world fk ups, they may deny manny his rightful place as worst coach in college football.
FSU beats us to a pulp, Manny has a real shot though.

James
...but was also able to work with the Board of Trustees to increase the school's salary pool for assistant coaches.

yea because we dont want other schools raiding our elite coaching staff

solarcane

CG,
My bad now I do remember you always wanting Butch to coach here again.

Somebody on here always lobbies for Cristobal,
Because I am an old fart its best to ignore most of what I say anyway.

Beautiful! At least we're in the TOP TEN in something football-related. What does Manny have to do to make the FINAL FOUR by the end of the season?

LOL actually I wanted Butch before Richt was hired but would not have minded Mario on staff in some kind of Assistant Head Coach position with him. - What do you think that duo would have looked like 4 years later?

his stock is so low to go to the NFL he might spend a year at another college to earn bigger bucks
