“When I was a child,
I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye,
I turned to look but it was gone,
I cannot put my finger on it now,
The child is grown, the dream is gone,
I have become comfortably numb”
Surely Pink Floyd's David Gilmour must be a Miami Hurricane fan.
Every one of us deals with reality in different ways.
You might find yourself in denial, cursing the television, throwing stuff all over the place. Maybe you are the type that suffers in silence and just shake your head in disbelief. I used to be both of those type fans, sometimes even during the same game.
Now nothing horrible the Canes do on the field upsets me or even surprises me.
I have become comfortably numb.
Fortunately I was able to move on from denial a long time before most of my Canespace pals were willing to let go. I was in the minority a decade ago when I predicted the Miami Hurricane football team would dwell in the eight wins four losses neighborhood for all eternity.
Nobody wanted to believe me back then, yet here we are.
Sure, the Canes continue to tease us and win a couple notable games in spite of themselves, but they never look like "The U" is Back. I don't really believe we will ever be back. We are the football version of the Chicago Cubs. I don't know if we can pull off 108 years between championships, but we are giving it a hell of a shot.
Remember when you were a kid and fell off your bike and how bad it hurt for awhile and how you hated that bike? Then in time your bruise became numb and you realized that you still really loved that bike after all.
Rooting for the Miami Hurricanes is something like that.
We all have become comfortably numb.
last thing - loved the pics but the first one especially because it has some formers - Canesteeler and Canez1 as well as Solar. The other guy I don't recall?

You know how DEEP I had to go to find that picture? Man, you just don't know. But it explains why I don't sleep at night and my wife yells at me a lot for not going to bed at a good time. At least I think she is still my wife. I better get home and check?

Here is an interesting stat that may surprise you
However, the list of FBS Power 5 programs with the longest active streaks of being above .500 coming into the 2019 certainly lacks some of the game's most recognizable brand names.
1. Oklahoma Sooners

2. LSU Tigers

3. Wisconsin Badgers

4. Penn State Nittany Lions

5. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Apologies to all involved, but this statement over the last decade has become an urban legend thats complete and total bullshit.
Can anyone here come up with two examples of this since, let's say, the day Golden took over here?
The problem here hasn't been player development, it's been how to use them properly on Saturdays.
Posted by: Go Canes!! | October 23, 2019 at 08:28 AM
Go respectfully,
this is the stuff that brings out the flame throwers on you.
You don't think Romberg and McKinney have a better understanding of this than you do?
Lots of Canes are in the NFL because of their talent not because of coaching. Duke, Miller,Hester,Shields come right to mind.
Sean Taylor, Dan Morgan Ray Lewis,Ed Reed didn't make the NFL because of their Miami Hurricane coaching. They got there on talent. I think they probably got some pretty good coaching in the NFL compared to what they got at Miami.

I would say with the exception of Coach Feeley, and maybe tight end, we have a below average college level coaching staff at every position.

The point is over the last decade there have been very few if any guys on our teams who have been mediocre or underachieved then went to the NFL and "blossomed" into great players.
The problems here for the last decade have been schematic on Saturdays, not great individual players excelling.

1. You should ask Romberg and McKinney. They probably know a little something about football and coaching and talent.
2. Sam Shields, Allen Hurns and Devin Hester are a few that come to mind. There are many others but I don't have time to entertain you.
If you remember when Shields got to the Packers as a DB there was a coach or aan experienced player who was quoted as saying: "He had ni idea how to study film. He didn't even know what he was looking at."
I will find it and be right back.

Why does it HAVE TO BE one or the other? Why can't it ever be BOTH or ALL of the above?
Posted by: 86Cane | October 23, 2019 at 09:38 AM
Hey, we just get them ready for the pros because they at better there than they due at DA U. Could it be the that the money is better or coaching or both?
Posted by: Herbieibis | October 23, 2019 at 09:47 AM
Go,
I have to agree our game day coaching is as poor as it gets.
We constantly look confused.
Manny has that I can't believe this is happening look, the players look confused on defense before the snap.
I also think our players have a very unrealistic idea of their superior athleticism compared to our opponents.
Real three star players have their best game against us week after week.
You can put the blame for our record on a bunch of problems that should have been solved before the season started, way back when we didn't recruit well.

Shields only played DB one year. And I believe he was about 10 years ago, Hester was for sure.
And Allen Hurns was a draft screw up, not a Canes screw up. It's not like he had 35 catches and went on o be a Pro Bowler. He had a monster senior season:
Led all Miami receivers in receptions (62) and receiving yards (1,162) ... Second on team with six TD receptions ... Set single-season school record with 1,162 receiving yards, breaking mark previously held by Leonard Hankerson ... Concluded career ranked seventh in school history with 121 receptions and 1,891 yards ... 62 receptions are third-most in single-season at UM ... Tabbed second-team All-ACC by ACSMA, league's head coaches and Athlon Sports ... Posted six 100-yard receiving games ... Totaled game-high five receptions for 34 yards against FAU ... Caught four passes for 60 yards in win over No. 9 Florida ... Caught three passes for 100 yards in win against Savannah State, including then-career-long 80-yard TD in the first quarter ... Caught five passes for 81 yards in win at USF ... Recorded four receptions for 108 yards and TD in home win over Georgia Tech ... Collected six receptions for 98 yards in road win at UNC ... Tallied two receptions for 25 yards in win against Wake Forest ... Caught five passes for 84 yards and tied career-high with two TDs in first loss of season at No. 3 Florida State ... Totaled four receptions for then-career-high 142 yards against Virginia Tech … Had 84-yard TD reception vs. Hokies which broke previous career-long of 80 yards against Savannah State ... Snagged eight catches for 107 yards in road loss at Duke ... Shattered career bests for receptions (9) and yards (173) in Miami's 41-31 win at Pitt ... Became fourth Hurricane with 1,000-yard receiving season, joining Eddie Brown (1984), Andre Johnson (2002) and Leonard Hankerson (2010) ... Named Jack Harding Team MVP at end-of-season team awards show ... Caught two passes for 24 yards vs. Louisville in Russell Athletic Bowl ... Earned letter.

Due to the atrocities that have taken place this season, I see NO reason for Pitt not to take advantage us. We play like shyt on the road (for that matter at home too) and I'm sure will pull out a couple of our new ways to lose games bag of tricks. This has become comical it's so bad. I actually see the Dee tackling better but the same old things pop up, third down stops and getting lit up in the secondary. Pitt 27-17. Whom ever Qb's better take out a Lloyd's of London's policy before the game.

The Only thing That has improved is our Strength and Conditioning Coach. Hartley is a Better TE Coach Than The Guy We Got Now. The Only Thing Manny should have done was Bring In Feeley for S&C and reassign Jon Richt To Fundraising and Non Coaching Job! Could have brought in Enos for Coach QB's and Run Offense. Brown could have just been RB Coach like he is at South Carolina. Dugans could of just kept on coaching WR's, and OL Coach could have stayed the same , As With TE Coach, and Honestly Hartley could have kept coaching Special Teams because it's better than the bleep show we got now. Just Freaking Putrid!

86Cane might be right. 34 is 5 touchdowns with a missed extra point or 4 touchdowns and 2 field goals made and maybe a few misses.

Manny waiting to name starter at QB. That's just great, one has a sore throwing shoulder the other has a dislocated non throwing shoulder. I'd hate to be Nelson the first time he delays getting out of his stance and looks around, seeing whomever is QB getting body slammed. Might lose both before the games over with.

Pittsburgh 37. Miami 7.
This unfortunately seems to be the game that the string of close losses ends..where demoralization has a chance to really take hold.

I remember reading here in 2010 that an NFL scour said that the Miami’s Hurricanes under Shannon were the worst coached team in CFB.
Thinking of players who blossomed in the NFL:
Anthony Chickillo (Golden)
Sentreal Henderson (Shannon)
Chris Herndon (Golden/Richt)
Ray Ray Armstrong (Shannon)
