“When I was a child,
I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye,
I turned to look but it was gone,
I cannot put my finger on it now,
The child is grown, the dream is gone,
I have become comfortably numb”
Surely Pink Floyd's David Gilmour must be a Miami Hurricane fan.
Every one of us deals with reality in different ways.
You might find yourself in denial, cursing the television, throwing stuff all over the place. Maybe you are the type that suffers in silence and just shake your head in disbelief. I used to be both of those type fans, sometimes even during the same game.
Now nothing horrible the Canes do on the field upsets me or even surprises me.
I have become comfortably numb.
Fortunately I was able to move on from denial a long time before most of my Canespace pals were willing to let go. I was in the minority a decade ago when I predicted the Miami Hurricane football team would dwell in the eight wins four losses neighborhood for all eternity.
Nobody wanted to believe me back then, yet here we are.
Sure, the Canes continue to tease us and win a couple notable games in spite of themselves, but they never look like "The U" is Back. I don't really believe we will ever be back. We are the football version of the Chicago Cubs. I don't know if we can pull off 108 years between championships, but we are giving it a hell of a shot.
Remember when you were a kid and fell off your bike and how bad it hurt for awhile and how you hated that bike? Then in time your bruise became numb and you realized that you still really loved that bike after all.
Rooting for the Miami Hurricanes is something like that.
We all have become comfortably numb.
Love the article!
So true!
Wish the admin would read it AND actually care!
PS I said this 2 yrs ago but I’ll say it again:
The admin should care: when my daughter was applying to law schools, the dean at um law called Shelly and told her their apps had over doubled vs the norm after we beat notre Dame! If that doesn’t say ‘football matters’, what does

We are actually a FG kicker away from being 7-0. But at the same time we are also a few plays from being 1-6.
We've had a 4th quarter lead in all seven games this season yet we are somehow 3-4.
I want to put it all on Manny, but there have been some really basic plays botched by players that literally cost us games that you can't really blame on coaching.
Very strange, very frustrating season.

Once the over-promoted peter principle ticket distributor and his buddy the over-promoted peter principle coordinator are fired and left in shame on an airport tarmac, regional or otherwise, the healing can begin.
The most potential filled jobs are places that used to be players on the national championship scene that had things go wrong, because you can come in, get what used to be back in order and renew the potential to new levels of success. But not with this combination moronic bots, the useless Fake Lames and his shitty talking points like GD still puts out weekly. Amazing how GD just can't ever figure it out but wants credit for after the fact disavowals, so stunning and brave that GD is and always the last to know.

Serious question:
If we lose the next 2 (pitt and FSU) by a combined score of 80- 17 (yes I think we make 1 field goal) does manny get canned?

Probably not. After all, according to the lexicon of losercoachspeak, we just started "re-building" the program. And "it takes time" to "change the culture".
If, however, we also lose to FIU _______________ [you can fill in the blank].

Report says FSU has started a new coach search. This big name [Urban Meyer] is high on the list.
The Florida State Seminoles are coming off a 22-20 loss to Wake Forest, which dropped FSU to 3-4 this season and 8-11 under head coach Willie Taggart.
While Taggart told reporters Monday that the team was one play away from winning three of the four games they’ve lost this year, the results so far haven’t helped him off the coaching hot seat.
According to Football Scoop, FSU has started talking with donors about looking for a new coach, instead of giving Taggart, in his second season, another year at his dream job.
The outlet reported FSU is aiming for Urban Meyer to replace Taggart.

Perhaps, this is a harbinger of things to come at UM. Given our "cracker-jack" AD, don't be surpised if UM fires ex-Temple head coach Manny Diaz and hires ex-FSU head coach, Willie Taggart. Or maybe we'll just keep Manny on the job to go "toe-to-toe" with a "big name" head coach at FSU such as Urban Meyer (or whomever).

The new "305" Turnover Chain may the source of all the trouble this year at The New Miami. It's bad mojo! CMD needs to revert back to the "original" chain. IT WAS A WINNER. This is MIAMI. "We don't need no loser bling."
Posted by: nemo2002 | October 22, 2019 at 12:54 PM
Aero don't go there.
It would be just as easy to say if the Canes beat Pitt and FSU by a combined score of 80-17 will all be forgiven? It works both ways, don't look for bad that doesn't already exist. Wait for it, it will probably find you anyway without you wishing it forward.

I don't think Meyer's health is strong enough for a complete overhaul of a broken program.
When you see him speak on TV he looks anemic.

More realistic FSU hire
Sept 2019
Steve Spurrier realizes that Mike Leach is an elite coaching prospect, and he would like it if he stayed away from Spurrier’s former school’s rival.
“Somebody’s going to hire Mike Leach soon. Let’s just hope it isn’t FSU.”

Also with the first-team defense on Saturday was sophomore cornerback Al Blades Jr. DJ Ivey, who gave up two touchdowns on Saturday, one on a fake punt, was with the second team. Junior safety Amari Carter also was with the second team as Gurvan Hall and Robert Knowles lined up with the first team.

I agree. What you're saying is true. For a number of reasons the probability is small that FSU will hire Urban Meyer.
But the probability is even smaller that FSU will hire someone with NO head coaching experience to replace Willie Taggart.
And the probability is ZERO that FSU would ever consider paying a school like TEMPLE $4 million (yikes!) to enable that school's new head coach to break his contract to take the "dream job" in Tallahassee.

I agree! I always liked the original turnover chain, and was never a fan of the others. I am also not a fan of the TD rings, but that is another story.

Nice job Solar on the article!
In college football though things can turn around rather quickly with the right ingredients. Al Golden was stubborn and would not change his defense, team went down the tank and he was fired. Mark Right would not change his offense, give up play calling or fire his son and off he went. In the middle of that was the Nevin Shapiro scandal, a couple of ill-timed contract extensions (thanks Blake James).
Two stubborn men and a scam artist. Had we made the right hires, things might have been different - but we still would have had to deal with Nevin-gate.
The BOT need to figure out how to get a competent AD that knows football and can hire the right person that will in turn, hire the right people. And for the love of Pete, pay attention to special teams and the O-line.
I will remain optimistic and cheer for the Canes, but am not renewing season tix next year. Keep giving them your money and they will continue to spend it unwisely.

Mike Leach and JJ are friends, Johnson might give The Pirate a heads up and tell him the Miami job is an open sore and the fan base thinks the average players are elite.
Leach would come as much to dick with the fans as he would to hang 40 points a game on every Coastal division team.
I think Manny hangs around for three years and upsets the fans constantly and a ranked team once in awhile.

Herb,
how about Mario C. from Oregon as HC here? Lot of fans of Mario on the blog. He has the Ducks playing great and he can recruit anywhere. I think Oregon had a a top 10 class didn't they?

Yes.
We start out it seems every year at one or two and then we just keep falling but of course we have to lead the nation In 4 star decomittments in the last 3 years.
David comes in at over 9 mill. in coaching salary.

At 77 years old I have seen it all. Way back in the 50's we were just hoping to be ranked in the top 25 once in a while. Then we were hoping for a top 10 once in awhile. Then along came Howard Schenneberger and promised a National Championship within 5 years. In 1983 he kept that promise, as underdogs we beat Nebraska to win our first National Championship. Then we moved on to Jimmy Johnson and the swagger years started. In all We won 5 National Championships becoming one of the most decorated football teams in NCAA history along with the best college football team ever in 2001.
Know we are back where we were 40 years ago.
Hoping to be in the top 25 rankings.
I don't think I have another 40 years years left in me to possibly see another Championship or even a top 5 ranking. Hell, I should be happy
I got to see it once. From the bottom to the top back to the bottom.
Hey who knows, I have another 10 years in me, God willing.

Pat Bethel on why Manny is the best coach.
(think about General Custer's men sitting around the campfire talking about their leader right before their big game at the Little Big Horn)
“He just is,” he said. “He’s a guy you’ve got to be around. He brings the same energy every day. He knows how to run the system. He knows how to coach. He knows exactly what he’s doing, so we trust him fully, and we’re all in for him.”
