Recently I wrote an article here on Canespace titled: "Faith, Hope and Love".
It was based on a bible verse (1 Corinthians 13:13) which has remained one of my favorites over many, many years: "These three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
In the article I asked and pleaded with University of Miami football fans to maintain these three critical emotions for the rest of the 2019 college football season and basically suggested or promised that things would get better.
I was wrong.
Let me try to put things into perspective for you based on today's events.
Your Miami Hurricanes, by far the worst team in the ACC, lost today to Georgia Tech. To put things in perspective for you the Yellow Jackets scored two points against powerhouse Temple, then lost to Duke and The Citadel in Atlanta.
Yeah, that bad. I'm talking dumpster fire bad.
The Hurricanes defense allowed Tech to score their highest points this season.
The Miami offense scored only 21 points and was 5-13 on 3rd down conversions.
The UM special teams missed 3 field goals and gave up a TD on a fake punt.
It simply doesn't or can't get any worse than this. Even in our worst nightmares this could never happen. Yet it did happen, it happened today and it happened on our home turf at Hard Rock Stadium. It was that bad.
The game was lost, the season was over and "The New Miami" died today.
We started the season overflowing with faith, hope and love.
It is now clear that faith and hope have left the building.

Meh, at the end of the day and all things considered, you're actually probably in the upper half of the regular posters here these days. My advice to you would just be to wake up and smell the coffee over the wafting fumes of the dumpster fire inferno, it'll be fine.
Next week, Fake Lames should be fired and left in shame on the tarmac of the Pittsburgh airport! Then the healing can begin. Don't look now slurpers, but Butch Davis has a better record in 2019 than the over-promoted peter principle coordinator does just nine miles from campus in Coral Gables! How's that for living in the present?

OGV, at this point I'm willing for UM to employ Watson and appoint an AI as HC. Anything to stop the bleeding.
It would be fun to hear the Skynet AI corch say, "Resistance is futile".

Overall, a cruddy day. My son's 8th grade AAU team gets swept in a Excel tournament, I'm trying to avoid news on the game, then accidentally see that the miniscule GA Tech has tied it up. Ugly afternoon.

OGV...I have no loyalty to an individual coach or staff. Just to the winning tradition of Miami that has been sullied over the last 15 years. I don't care if Steve Erkel is the HC...if he can win and recruit....then bring him on.

What quality coach do you guys think would be interested in putting in the time and effort to actually turn the program around?
I believe this is at least a three season project to have a team that can sustain a top 20 program ranking from season start to finish.
I really do not see Manny going anywhere for at least three more seasons.
Miami is not the marquee destination for great coaches or elite players.
We can not pick and choose the guy we want.
We should have spent the big bucks when we hired Randy,on
an Urban Myers caliber coach that would have us competing within two years of his hire.
We love the ACC money, and that is more important than a stadium full of happy fans watching a small private school compete in a conference they can win championships in.
Jmo
also
Pitt and FSU are going to drub us.

LOL at the time of your post. You should be in bed young man - nothing good happens after midnight ;-)
And she said that

p.s. thanks for the "young man" comment

THE DAY AFTER . . .
i missed the game live; didn't think it mattered; caught it later on ESPN rewind or whatever
. . . and yes, after eating my frustration thru a pack of cookies, i went to bed as shell-shocked as the rest of you
i've been married to the fins & canes since before either one enjoyed their dynasty years
in good times as in bad
in sickness as in health
for richer or for poorer
so help me
out here god/buddha/vishnu/zeus/mohammed/aphrodite/luigi/any others pantheon'istically-speaking
well, both teams sure had their good, healthy, richer times!! (and THANK YOU for those; particularly the 1972 fins, when i was able to see every home game in the upper end zone!!)
. . . just wish all the last anniversaries weren't being celebrated in sick, poor, bad times
. . . but i can't just dump 'em for that good-looking alabama or that hottie, clemson, or . . .
so i guess it's time to sit in the ole rocker getting comfortably numb with all the other numb-nuts, needing to pass the bottle, the pipe, the needle, the pills, the chocolate, . . . especially the chocolate, since i don't like the taste of alcohol, can't stand coughing, have a fear of needles and choke on pills
Posted by: alpine | October 20, 2019 at 06:28 AM
funny thing is, i still think manny is gonna be the man one of these days
. . . but it'll take more time & patience than what he'll get here
. . . he's someone who thought he knew more than he did and is suffering the proverbial icarus-effect
. . . but eventually he's gonna sew those feathers back together; there's something deep down strong about him that will phoenix his way back from the ashes
. . . in time, he might even be the one for miami the 2nd time around
. . . unfortunately, like harry miller(?), i'm afraid i won't be around to enjoy it
one of you posted the brilliant question: "where does the program go now"?
. . . we can only hope that we're in the place where "there's no where else but up"
unfortunately, as 58str8 says in his excellent blog, faith & hope have gone AWOL
but to repeat what another brilliant poster said:
please leave the TNM, the bling, "the culture" talk, and all the rest outside "the building"
. . . and ONLY focus on taking some positive steps

AGREE 100%!
Go FULL SPREAD, and START Martell.
We have absolutely NOTHING TO LOSE!
Posted by: roachcane77 | October 20, 2019 at 08:36 AM
29 missed tackles. It's sad when 2 of your DT's have one tackle a piece. Our ends keep losing containment on the edge and our LB's can't mop up. Quarterman had 13 tacklesand missed 4 or 5. The secondary can't tackle.
Posted by: Herbieibis | October 20, 2019 at 10:12 AM
Roach, we were talking about that last night - time for Martell - I want to see what he can do. Since I didnot see the game - was Baxa the only one kicking field goals?

The CMD narrative has changed from winning now to a rebuild. SMH
What do you say to the seniors? Thanks, but you don’t matter? I don’t know when the coach is speaking the truth, or just making excuses because the program he is trying to build is falling apart.
The Canes are being outcoached and opposing coaches are laughing at us. The Canes are effectively a second rate program. We aren’t recruiting the right players, and more importantly, we aren’t developing the talent on this roster.
I look at the UFvUM game in week zero, and I see two teams that were once evenly matched going in opposite directions. One team is teaching and developing players at every opportunity and consistently out coaching the opponents, while the other is is selling players and the fan base a bunch of empty promises while they learn how to coach.
I have watched a lot of high school football this season in different parts of the state, and there are better coaches and kickers in abundance.
My team just lost at home to a winless GT team, and that speaks more than words. I will not listen to any press conferences any more because I don’t believe in what I am being sold.

CGNC - in case my comment to you above (6:09 a.m.) was über-abstruse, you posted at 1.30 a.m. the night after lol'ing my posting time and saying "nothing good happens after midnight"
. . . but i'm on european time ("alpine"; get it?) so i'm 6 hours ahead of you all
Posted by: alpine | October 20, 2019 at 10:55 AM
Big Windy - I agree. Florida looks like they finally found their coach in Mullen, took them 3 tries but they did it.
OGV I can only hope that they leave Blake James on the tarmac in Pitt.

alpine, LOL I know - I am not normally up that late
Posted by: CGNC | October 20, 2019 at 10:56 AM
Watching Richt on ACCNetwork is annoying - he is all abut yelling and jumping around about the "house" yet he looked like he was on xanax on our side line and never recruited the proper o-line players or special teams which affects our house right now. And we are where we are.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

If Tate stayed at The Ohio State and worked out at slot receiver he would have been on a real contender.
He might even be on the field for some snaps every game.

I would rather lose by 50 to a ranked team then what happened yesterday. Not only did GT only have 1 win coming into the game, they have a new HC running a completely new offense...on Offense we see all the time and still got our asses handed to us......
i'm glad i went out yesterday and missed the game. Otherwise my wife would have had to buy me a new TV for my birthday which is today.... on second thought, that might have been the way to go.

Happy birthday Raize. I most likely will be down for Homecoming but my plans right now is to see Basketball and Volleyball. I rather Give my Money and Time To Teams that would appreciate it. This Football Team doesn't deserve our Money and Time. They are The Spoiled Man/Woman that only wants your Money, Time, and Effort All the while Crapping on U and telling U to Love It. A Bunch of Unlikable Parts.
