I think the Virginia win helped with recruiting. No more decommits for the time being!

Shout out to Pat Bethel for blocking that Virginia field goal

Troy Verner (Minnie Me) could’ve blocked that kick it was kicked so low.

thirstybuzzardcane

Another guy that doesn’t get recognized is Lou! That boy can’t punt. It’s nice to have someone that doesn’t shank it every time!

That's good news!
Francois is a big loss though...

What's the QB kid that really showed well at our camp? (Hope he's still committed... )

Dan Mullen is a Gator, so I can’t cheer for him but I admit he is doing a good job. If Dan Mullen finds a way to win this night game in Death Valley, I will have to (reluctantly) place him up there amongst the best current college football coaches out here.

Sarasota Cane I will be there for GT Game. Thanks again CGNC(WPB) for the tickets this yesterday. U Rock. Great Seats. Fun Close Game Last Night. Glad our Canes pulled the Upset.

UF looking pretty good against big bad LSU. Maybe we underestimated how good they are?

Good game between da gatah and LSU. Really good QB play on both sides of the ball.

Do we have an A game?

Terrance Sullivan

Great Point Soupster! We definitely don't have a A Game! So Far I have seen a B minus Game(Virginia and Florida) to a F Game.(Virginia Tech and Central Michigan). We had C minus Game (North Carolina and Bethune Cookman).

alpine

no, we've not had an A "game"

- but what i think windy is talking about, is whether we have enough A or B+ type quarters, while holding our opponent to less of those types of quarters, to to put us over the top
... or that both the O and the D and the ST have good games, even if not elite
... consistency is the broth?

- va tech 1st quarter was an F- on both offense & defense
.. it was like entering an old style outhouse that's been around forever; the air is so thick you are sure, that if you can't hold your breath long enough, that next breath will cause your consciousness to blot out

... but the n'kosi led offense was not worse than a B+ the rest of the way
... the defense maybe a C+
... this was a game, where a little bit better (post jarren) offense (A-) and a better (post jarren) defense (B) the rest of the way, would still have somehow overcome the 1st quarter

- what i REALLY liked about the virginia game, was that our D brought it's A game to the red zone
... so when the ST f#k'd up and allowed a 70+ kickoff return (or punt? i forget), our D stepped up and held them out of the end zone

- totally different than vs. VA tech, where each time the O messed up, the D simply turned into butter ... it was absolutely nauseating to watch how easy we allowed points once they hit our side of the field

anyway, enough with the stream of consciousness here, but you get my point
... south carolina did NOT have close to an A offense against GA; but their D was elite on that afternoon and got them a win

meaning: LET'S JUST DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO GET THE WINS!!
. . . and do NOT put jarren back in with this OL!

alpine

Posted by: alpine | October 13, 2019 at 06:27 AM

definitely did not bring my A game to this post

- i think there's a couple deep & meaningful points trying to sprout; unfortunately they got buried in the inconsistency of my "arguments/examples"

- i'll have a talk with the mirror and try to do better next week

alpine

but the outhouse metaphor really brought back the memories

... i'm one of those people, whose parents thought it's a wonderful idea to throw their passel of kids into the car with a tent, sleeping bags, gas stove, and plenty of cards & comic books
... and take off for places like alaska, hawaii, mexico, europe (by way of east canada to get on a relatively cheap ocean liner)

- these were the 60's; we camped every night after 300 - 400 miles; the campgrounds in those days were mostly "rustic"
... which was very cool, since you often had no view of other campers

... but wow, some of those outhouses were mean as a rabies-slathering bitch!!

alpine

we did alaska in 1962 driving there thru the yukon/northwest canada
... and had SIX flat tires on those forlorn, pre-oil explosion, roads during the couple weeks we drove around

but the mountains & plots of leftover snow and the basic wilderness totally impressed this coral gables kid

Go Canes!!

I'm with UMike on Enos.

It's hard to be consistent when you have to game plan knowing your QB has to get rid of the ball within a second or two of the snap.

Despite that we left at least three TDs on the field Friday night just off the top of my head on really well designed plays, that turn that game into a blowout. We also had at least half a dozen drops.

Pope's drop, Kosi's multiple overthrows of wide open WRs streaking to the end zone and the overload play in the redzone where Osborn dropped/was overthrown in the end zone.

If you watch really consistent teams their QB are dropping those throws
right in the recievers hands or the WRs are making those tough catches.

There has to be some player accountabilty too.

CGNC

We're the U!

CGNC

Posted by: Go Canes!! | October 13, 2019 at 08:10 AM

Yes there should. And yes consistent teams have better QB's and better O-lines. With that said, don't you think there is ANYTHJNG different Enos could do as OC to help this situation?

CGNC

86 - that Florida LSU game was fun to watch. It is very clear to me how far we are from that at this point in time.

Go Canes!!

Posted by: CGNC | October 13, 2019 at 09:39 AM

Absolutely he can. He gets too cute with his play calling and I don’t get why we’re under center, ever.
Overall we’ve got to hit on more explosive plays. This o-line isn’t going to put together a bunch of 10 play 80 yard drives.

Herbieibis

It just goes to show u, the things we bitch about, eventually everyone else bitches about. Everybody has bad games no matter who the players are and u could potentially get beat on any given Saturday. Now I don't think anybody's OH line is worse than ours and is a fact!

Whoa that is badass!!!
I would have been 15 and all over that kind of trip

BigWindyCane

Go and Alpine,
I agree with your posts. Just have the Canes bring their B game, and we should run the table. Throw in some Cs and Ds, and we will struggle.

CMD needs to stay involved in the defense until Baker shows he is ready, which may never happen this season.

Perry is the QB to get us through the ACC because he has the most upside by far. Perry has an FBS arm and athleticism. If Perry continues to avoid the turnovers, it’s really a no-brainer.

The ACC DCs will stack the box against Jarren and DARE him to make throws outside the hashes and downfield. Jarren doesn’t throw receivers open, he has to see them open before he throws it. That second he loses before he throws makes his arm appear even weaker. Jarren also isn’t as mobile as Perry.

Perry has to hit those receivers when the opportunity presents itself, and the receivers have to catch any ball that touches their hands. When that happens, this offense will be explosive. But you can’t expect that to happen overnight. Perry and his receivers need to put in the hard work. Perry needs to “know his personnel.” JT4 and Pope

If it’s not Perry, then the Canes need to look to Matocha or an incoming recruit.

BigWindyCane

When I say, “Know your personnel,” I mean a point guard in basketball or QB in football should know who is fast, who has good hands to make contested catches, who runs good routes, anticipating where the receivers will be before you make the throws, etc. It’s not just the coaches’ responsibility.

For example, JT4, Pope and Wiggins have straight line speed; JT4 and Harley are our best blockers; Osborn isn’t as fast or is as good at blocking, but he runs good routes; No one on this roster has great hands, but some like Jordan have better hands than others like Wiggins. When you see matchups you like, exploit them over and over until the opponent makes an adjustment.

"badass": perfect word
... it was the summer i turned 7, but i loved that part of the trip

... one memory was visiting dawson city when it was still a twirpy little town (before the tourist explosion) ... they had planks for sidewalks, which i'd never encountered before (or after); and i felt a real swag ponging along those "sidewalks" like a cowboy looking for his horse

heck, the entire (small) town had that western flavor, but wet & muddy instead of dry & dusty
