Your Miami Hurricanes had a chance to set the 2019 college football season right on the first Saturday in October with an easy victory over struggling Virginia Tech at Hard Rock Stadium.
The contest set up to be an easy home game for the Hurricanes who were favored by a solid 14 points over a shockingly weak Hokies team that had lost the previous week to Duke 45-10.
Of course, that was all before the game actually kicked off.
Then a Halloween horror show happened a few weeks early.
Suddenly, before you could get a cold beer, slap some mustard on your hot dog and find your seat, UM would find a way to turn the ball over four times and trail VT by the neat and tidy score of 28-0.
The fans in attendance must have felt as if they had been run over by a truck.
Justifiably the fans started booing or heading for the safety of the tailgate in the parking lot, the cheerleaders stopped cheering and Manny Diaz was soon seen looking for some serious smoke to cover his emergency exit from the stadium to avoid having to explain another embarrassing loss by his completely unprepared team to the media once again.
Now granted, Miami made a valiant effort to fight its way back into the game and even managed to tie the score 35-35 late in the fouth quarter behind backup QB N'kosi Perry.
Apparently, when Manny Diaz proclaimed after the fourth game of the season that he still didn't know who his best players were at several positions he was obviously including the QB position. Perry clearly outplayed starting QB Williams, who managed to throw several picks before blaming a "sore shoulder" and sitting down.
But alas, it was not to be as the once stoudt UM defense could not muster one more stop and let VT drive right down the field and score the winning TD for the final score of 42-35.
The game, and Miami's 2019 season, basically ended at the same time.
To be brutally honest Miami fans attending the games really have no idea if their team is going to give them a trick or treat on any given Saturday.
On the first Saturday in October it was clear that the trick was on them.
First sadly we aint!!!

Between Baxa, the DBs, and the OL, it’s too much to overcome.
God Baxa is putrid. How can they keep him on the team? I guess let him continue with kickoff duty, but you can’t trot him out there when there is even 1 point on the line.

If I am not mistaken, CMD has said that no starting position is guaranteed and every player is in open competition at all times.
So what about QB? CMD’s roster decisions at OL, DL, Safety, Lingard, WR (along with his coaching and staff decisions quite frankly) are highly questionable at best.

Great blog article and photos!!!!
FWIW I did see Lingard dressed and on the sideline with a brace or wrap on his knee. He does not need to go out there behind that Oline and land in the ER.
Nemo - I had a pretty good idea this season had a potential to be a wash after the NC game. Now I know.

SMU down 27 to 7 comes back, wins and stays undefeated.
College football is fun to watch in spite of Miami.

Big Windy,
You are right J4 is a completely different player when Kosi is on the field.
He still has a tendency to go down rather than risk injury, but why get hurt for this team?

OL coach needs to be fired yesterday...... watching the game, i can count on 2 hands how many times someone didn't block a single person....on one play, 2 lineman were side by side and didn't block anyone.....pathetic.
Joe Montana could be our Q and he would get trashed behind this line
Posted by: raizecane | October 06, 2019 at 12:27 PM
But Diaz wasn't watching
"Say what you want about the 2018 season for Perry, but the fact that he has matured, stayed out of trouble, and didn’t pout when he lost the job, speaks volumes about his character. Perry came on in relief of an ineffective Jarren Williamsto go 28-47 for 422 yards and 4 touchdown throws. He was blitzed and battered by Virginia Tech’s defense, but gave Miami a chance to win the game. There were moments where he made bad decisions and was bailed out by penalty, but all in all a very encouraging performance by Perry."

Great blob article, has all the spice you want from a dull season on the football field. (Also, it was five consecutive turnovers end drives to start the game when you add in the fumble after the QB change, but who's counting again?) Hope it keeps up the spicy-hot seasoning while the football team circles the drain after losing to the cellar dwellers of the ACC flushes the season and the upperclassmen coast to protect their draft status against injury peril at the cost of performance.
Plus, that's my favorite picture of me and Noel, so I'm skimming the barrel bottom for all the positives possible. It only kind of helps I got in on VT at plus 12 points on the line for better than even odds . . .

Did u Eva notice, once we turn the ball over in our territory how easy it is for the other team to score a TD, not hold to a FG but we cough up a TD. Defense like butta once we turn it over.
We blitz when we don't need to and when we need to they don't. These blitzes are not disguised very well because it's taking a year to get to the QB. No push up the middle and to many blitzes are to wide. Nobody on defense is playing great, including Garvin, Shaq and Pink.
They need to stop all that shyt talking and make some plays.
Secondary is green but they should of played those guys more last year and they would of been seasoned more.
Looks to The Herb that Manny plays favorites. They may be hustlers but don't have the talent but he plays them anyway.
Perry takes to many chances. U could see that when we had 4 downs at the 5. Four forced throws in a row. Better arm but not smart. To me another Baxa.
We are in trouble. These is no blue print that cruit wants to follow.
Talent wins out. Look what OSU u did to MSU. SParties top defense shredded. OSU just plain. Out talented them. Not saying the teams are great talent wise, we have been out coached. We have to many C rated players. When u have depth of talent there is a true dog fight. Here it's a C-rated player going against a C in most cases. Manny's year on auditions suck. This is not going to inspire any talent to want to play here looking unorganized. Maybe if Manny would use 100 watt bulbs instead of 60 watts the lights would stay on longer. To many selfish dumb players.

Ignorance "was" bliss.
Now we KNOW we suck, and so do all of the rapidly decommitting recruits...
Sigh... thinking things would be different THIS TIME, (TNM)... Wrong!

Soupster, CGNC I tagged Y'all on Twitter to Big Of Rant on our Canes and Manny. Good Gawd!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | October 06, 2019 at 01:42 PM
The Canes OL is horrible. I see Nelson and Clark played a little better, but the OL still gave up 5 sacks. Perry moves around in the pocket a lot better than Jarren, or this would be another 10 sack performance. Nelson and Clark are being physically overwhelmed, and even the veterans Donaldson, Scaife and Gaynor are having subpar seasons. I find it hard to believe that someone on that bench couldn’t play better, or at least not get physically dominated. Frankly, they really don’t look like FBS OLs, and clearly don’t play like it.
I try not to criticize the players and coaches too much for fear of scaring recruits away. Now, I simply have to call it the way everyone sees it. There is no coaching, game-planning or player development going on in Coral Gables. This team will be lucky (and I mean very lucky) to make a bowl this season.
Posted by: BigWindyCane | October 06, 2019 at 01:51 PM
Problem with us, the Clarke's and Nelson's of the world should be redshirting and not be subjected to this kind of abuse. Border line criminal what Manny is doing to these kids. Not highly recruited by alot of power 5's to boot. Showing all the cruits that u will play freshmen is great but only if they are Physically ready and mature enough, which obviously ours are not. Nelson a 2 star cruit and Clarke a 3. Learning on the job is a bit h at DA U. Who even starts an Oh tackle at 285 lbs, except maybe Jawja Tech when they ran the flexbone?

I learned long ago, to be successful, execute plays and concepts, and win, you have to control the lines of scrimmage, be smart by not committing stupid penalties, not turn the ball over, play flawless special teams, and execute the fundamentals of the game on both sides of the ball and want it enough to die for it!......players must do it, and coaches must coach it.
If you do not, you will fail, lose, and people will see it and take their talent where it is being done.
I think too many people on here believe we have elite talent. We do not and have not had it; the last really great players with unreal talent were 2000 2001 and 2002. The talent level here has been way over rated; there have been good players at times...never an elite player since then. Oh I forgot MNW 2007 class was the greatest haul of all time by Onion...LOL!! I think this is due to coaching; there have been no great coaches since the great years.
Great coaching makes average players good, and good players elite....if both want, feel, learn, and will kill to get it!!! You either hit hurt and hate on the filed...or lose...
We have not done any of this on a regular basis since 2002 team....who did get rooked in their swan song game.
Its fact.....there has not been a good team here in a long time;anybody arguing 2016 and 2017 were Top 20 teams is delusional...no psychotic....you have lost touch with reality for sure.
I am very disappointed, but will continue to root for our guys....but I see a change coming if it continues to spiral downward.....can it do so....

Pittiful attempt at coaching and playing football
Posted by: AeroCane | October 06, 2019 at 03:32 PM
Gotcha VA,
SO. FLO. talent seems to be a little Overated. A good coach takes something that doesn't seem that good and makes it into something. We seem take something that is good and make into nothing.
Do we have a young team, yes in a lot of areas but stop with the excuses and using and mentioning of youth. The Coaches can't figure out what to do with the talent they have, that's their stupidity. We have enough talent to put points on the board, especially in this sorry azz conference, where 80 of the teams are mediocre at best. The Coaches got to stop effi g up what talent we do have and start playing to there strengths. Put the play makers on the field. Quit force feeding them an offense that they can't flourish in. Get the Pope's, Linegard and a few others on the field and use them to your advantage. Quit doing less with more. In this conference only Clemson and FSU has more overall talent.

You keep shorting the talent by 2 years. We still had talent until 2004. We had some talent after that but it was mostly wasted or squandered by bad coaches. That and the sun was in our eyes.
I don't have time to look now but can someone, and by someone I mean TonyCane, please list any elite players or at least all NFL draft picks in the first five rounds who may have stuck from 2004-2018 please.
Posted by: 86Cane | October 06, 2019 at 03:45 PM
I do remember when Aldarius Johnson was going to be the next Michael Irvin and was Ray Ray Armstrong going to be the next Sean Taylor. How'd that turn out? Not so good!
Posted by: 86Cane | October 06, 2019 at 03:47 PM
Thats what I am saying 86.....you get good and average players in here....but they never get to the elite level....you got to coach young kids to reach the next level.....yes we have some good NFL players.....but other than Frank Gore....are they rolling off yer lips? Greg Olsen yes! whyo else has really made it? You got to coach these players up!!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | October 06, 2019 at 04:25 PM
The kids are to blame for some of it...the coaching is to blame for most of it!!!! Clappy, Onion, AlPa, CMR, CMD.....just not getting it done.
yea 2004 was ok.....but all this talent everybody claims is here is not winning.....17 years since a Title? not that much talent and no coaching!!!!!
Posted by: VA Cane | October 06, 2019 at 04:28 PM
and why in gods name would you want to come to UM?
Beaches, girls, pr5o stadium, weather, classes....hell no!!!
I want to play for 4 titles in 4 years if I can or if I stay!!!!
Sadly you cannot even play for a conference title here!!!!....so you can go to a big team...but come here to dust old trophys off and play in the shadow of greatness.....and never come close to living it? NEVER!!!!!

CMD has been so bad, I wish we had Shannon, Golden or Richt right now.
My prediction after this 0-2 and 2-3 (soon to be 2-4) start, is I only see wins against GT and FIU, so that is a 4 win season, after so many (non-Canes fans) picked the Canes to win the Coastal.
I guess there is always basketball season
