Rise up Canes fans! Today, we turn the season and the program around. Let’s curb stomp those cavaliers To start to a 10 game winning streak!

I almost believed myself for a minute. I think Williams just threw another pick and bubba is 0-2 on FG’s.

Go Canes!!

Not giving up on Diaz and I agree with everything you said.

But right now he's treading water at best and for extended stretches he's been staring up from under it.

The first quarters against UNC and FT we horrible, especially with two weeks to prep.

Hopefully they get things going tonight.

Looks like rain for the whole game which helps them more than us imo.

solarcane

Who plays a schedule against schools with intimidating names like, Heels, Hokies, Hoos, and Chippawas?

Dr Seuss must schedule our games for cripes sake.

solarcane

CG

We come out of the gate an score on our opening drive, hold them through the first quarter, I think we have a chance to win. We seem to start playing about 6 minutes into the second half.

1. Watching gangbang porn will be good preparation for handling the rush that will be unleashed on him tonight.

2. I imagine it will be like standing in the middle of I-95 dodging on-coming traffic.

1. I heard he did that last week but it apparently didn't help. Or maybe it was I that did it and it didn't help? I can't recall?

2. I am not doing that. No way.

Solar, that guy might be right. Teams come off sluggish from bye weeks - including ours - twice.

Virginia writer thinks they lose

Despite all of Miami’s high-level recruits, they simply haven’t been very good for most of this year. They’ve looked good in stretches, but the whole product has been missing. You could say the same about Virginia’s offense, but the Wahoo defense has been consistently outstanding.

The two OLs are big keys. Again, that probably isn’t groundbreaking. It’s true about most games, but in this case, both OLs have been bad. Whichever one comes out and performs better likely win the game.

If this game was in Charlottesville, with the crowd behind the Hoos, I think they’d win. But in Miami, and perhaps a bit flat early on off the bye week, there’s too much going against the Hoos. I hope I’m wrong.

Prediction: Miami 21, Virginia 17 (My record this season: 5-0)

The Herb,
I think you covered just about everything,
Don't count out the ball ricocheting off Harley or Mallory in a critical 3ed down situation

Old Skool

I'm hoping Perry balls out tonight. Perhaps playing 7 on 7, endless games of Frogger or watching gangbang porn will be good preparation for handling the rush that will be unleashed on him tonight. I imagine it will be like standing in the middle of I-95 dodging on-coming traffic.

Herbieibis

Better hope Perry don't turn the baller over, are defense is In defenseless mode every time it happens, like melted butta.
See us struggling offensively. With this line, the only hope is we spread them out on Dee. No matter what scheme Enos comes up with, it won't help the Oh line. Got to hope Wahoo's have hangovers from a night out on So. Beach.
With no line, LB'S playing like this is their first year and no cover safties Da Herb sees The Cadavers munching on us to Da tune of 27-17. Bubba chips in with another miss and turn it over on downs in da redzone once again. And finally we get rid of the double digits penalty blues by tacking on only 8 flags.

1. Will CMD and the coaches have this Canes team ready to play immediately after the coin flip (no more slow starts)? Will the Canes not get out-coached again? Will the Canes cut penalties, win the turnover battle, convert red zone opportunities and convert on third downs?

2. If the Canes can somehow win this game, this could be a great turning point in the season.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | October 11, 2019 at 11:55 AM

1. If the Canes did this since game one we would be at UMike's 5-0 record with ease. Unfortunately, saying it on the blog is easy, but doing it on the field? Well, not so much.

2. Agree 100%. Otherwise, total FUBAR.

alpine

IMHO, tonight is a critical game.
BigWindyCane1 | October 11, 2019 at 11:55 AM

- windy: in one of feeley's off-season blogger workouts, he dealt with some issues regarding "strengthening your lines"

- accordingly, the use of "IMO" or it's derivatives should only be used when your opinion is controversial; otherwise, it causes "line weakness"

- in the above sentence, exchanging "OBVIOUSLY" for "IMHO" would really strengthen your line

(86 wasn't the only one paying attention)

solarcane

Every person on this blog knows Virginia has a relentless pass rush and blitz from all over the field.
Every person on this blog knows Miami's offensive line grades out the lowest in the nation

Every person this blog knows Perry plays better from shotgun

Lets see if Enos knows any of this.

solarcane

Perry might throw a couple picks but he will actually throw the ball downfield and make plays.

Posted by: UMike | October 11, 2019 at 10:58 AM

Like every good quarterback that played here back in the day

BigWindyCane1

IMHO, tonight is a critical game. My current goal is bowl eligibility, and a win here will put the Canes on track at 3-3 (1-2), with the bulk of the ACC schedule still ahead.

The Canes have a new starter at QB, and that starter, Perry, will definitely lead to a change in the offense and how teams defend the Canes. JT4, Pope, Harley and the other weapons outside should be thrilled, and so should the OL (who always misses blocks every play) and the RBs (opposing defenses can't load the box as much).

Will CMD and the coaches have this Canes team ready to play immediately after the coin flip (no more slow starts)? Will the Canes not get out-coached again? Will the Canes cut penalties, win the turnover battle, convert red zone opportunities and convert on third downs?

CMD also said that he will get more involved with the Canes defense for the first time, so that should lead to some improvements there as well, because scheme and tackling has been horrendous so far.

If the Canes can somehow win this game, this could be a great turning point in the season.

UMike

All valid points SOUP ...im choosing to look at it the other way for now.

86Cane

1. I'm not sure why we all thought we would go from 7-6 to 11-1 with no clear QB, all new schemes and coaches, POS OL and losing tons of talent on D.

2. We lost Willis, Jackson, M. Jackson, JJ, Redwine etc. If I'm not mistaken CMD didn't recruit a single one of the guys on the OL.

3. Even with the worst OL in the Power 5 and an incapable QB, we still only lost to top 10 Florida and UNC by a combined 7 points and had a chance to win both games.

4. It's very possible that if we had a slightly better OL and started Perry we would be 5-0 and a top 20 team.

5. Not sure how this season plays out, but I think we are closer then we think.

Posted by: UMike | October 11, 2019 at 08:08 AM

I'll go a little Negative Nancy on the blog for your reading pleasure:

1. Because our schedule is weak as hell. And, the whole idea in hiring a new coach was that the new coaches and schemes were supposed to make us better. They have not.

2. So we are the only team in college football that lost talented players who graduated? Every team loses talent every year and they suffer injuries which so far we have not been affected by. Next excuse please?

3. Florida has gotten better every game. We have gotten worse. Lets not play them again or we may may make them look like Wisconsin or something.

4. It is possible but it is simply not the case. It is also possible that we lose to UNC and VT by 21 points if not for major comebacks. It can be looked at both ways you see.

5. We ALL hope you are 100% correct. We ALL want to cheer, score and win and want Manny to do well. We just can't deny the truth or what we see. It starts tonight vs UVA. Show me what you got and win a big game at home and we can hold off on the "Situation FUBAR" blog for another week.

UMike

ETC what worried me about the CM game was our lack of adjustment after our first drive. Idk if there is truth to williams being hurt that game, but after the first drive we couldn't do nothing. Perry might throw a couple picks but he will actually throw the ball downfield and make plays.

DallasTX Cane

And the OL has been historically bad

DallasTX Cane

1st time HC. There was never any doubt that there’d be a big time learning curve. But did expect better showing vs C. Mich.

UMike

Gin, I'm not saying I don't have any issues with them lol... just saying I don't think CMD is a complete failure just yet. I think Enos is somewhat handicapped with a QB that holds the ball until the WR is 10 yards open and frantically waving his hands and an OL that can't block my local HS team. I believe he is a huge upgrade from Richt still. Maybe Perry will provide that spark. Honestly after the spring game I was left a bit dumbfounded that Williams was the starter.

Agreed, Richt went 9-4 in his first year and that's about what I was expecting from Diaz.

Biggest issue I have so far is being dead ass last in 3rd down conversion %. Thought Enos would have fixed that. Problem is the Canes can't run the ball at all when the defense is expecting a run. 3rd and 4 or shorter and the opponents stack the box to stop run / blitz the hell out of the qb.

UMike

About 7-8 years ago I was considered the negative Nancy on the blog and caught hell for being one of the first to turn on Golden... but ima so the opposite here with CMD.

I'm not sure why we all thought we would go from 7-6 to 11-1 with no clear QB, all new schemes and coaches, POS OL and losing tons of talent on D. We lost Willis, Jackson, M. Jackson, JJ, Redwine etc. If I'm not mistaken CMD didn't recruit a single one of the guys on the OL. I think he and Enos were honest when they said they didn't know if their QB was on campus yet.

Even with the worst OL in the Power 5 and an incapable QB, we still only lost to top 10 Florida and UNC by a combined 7 points and had a chance to win both games. We are still one play away in each of our losses from being 5-0. It's very possible that if we had a slightly better OL and started Perry we would be 5-0 and a top 20 team.

Not sure how this season plays out, but I think we are closer then we think.

solarcane

We get a 10 point lead early I think Perry can out run their pass rush and we prevail. We start slow and get behind early, same old thing

sigh #1:
UVAFootball defense is No. 2 in the nation with 4.8 sacks per game. UVA’s LB's alone have 17 sacks (3.4 per game)
Miami has allowed the most sacks of any FBS team in the country (25)

sigh #2:
Bryce Perkins is a talented dual-threat quarterback. He’s thrown for eight touchdowns and completes 66% of his passes, and has also rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns

On passes thrown at least 20 yards in the air, Jarren Williams is just 4 for 14 for 135 yards this season with one touchdown and one interception. Conversely, N’Kosi Perry was 5 for 10 for 181 yards and two touchdowns on those 20-plus yard passes in his season debut against the Hokies.

I think sometimes if you just don’t have the right combination of guys defensively where you have great leadership internally, which for whatever reason this year we just haven’t. And you don’t ever know that until you get in the season, just until the guys play their roles and you see the way that the guys connect with each other and the leadership that they have. This proverbial saying sounds as if it might be quite modern but it is in fact a 16th century phrase originating in England. The longer version of the phrase is 'a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse'. It might seem that this is just an elaboration of the shorter version, but it appears that the 'blind horse' version was in fact the original. The earliest examples of the proverb in print all give the fuller version, for example, in the Letters of the English lawyer and writer Joseph Ritson, February 1793:

"A nod, you know, is as good as a wink to a blind horse."

It seems intuitive to interpret the longer version as meaning 'neither a nod nor a wink has any purpose, both being equally pointless'. Nevertheless, the context of the early uses has it being used with the same apparent meaning as the short version, that is, 'you may nod or wink - I will take your meaning either way'.

During the 19th century the expression began to be shortened and the blind horse was left at home. Citations from that period use the form 'a nod is as good as a wink etc.', which clearly indicates that the later usage was simply a shorthand way of writing the original.

More recently, the expression has gained currency in the form of "a nod is as good as a wink to a blind bat", which Eric Idle used in his 'Nudge, nudge' sketch in Monty Python's Flying Circus. The character Idle played was a nonsense-talking fool who came out with a string of meaningless innuendos. The choice of bat was knowing, as bats are generally regarded as blind and so calling the creature a blind bat emphasized the ridiculousness of the character's gabble.

Currently the phrase can be found being utilized effectively on the well known and highly regarded Canespace blog and was last seen written as "A nod is as good as a wink to a blind man." This phrase is intended to emphasize the current state of hopelessness, and at times, what appears to be the "blind wandering" of the coaches, players and fans of the University of Miami football team.

We find this usage of the phrase not only acceptable but also incredibly insightful and extremely accurate in reflecting of the current state of affairs in Coral Gables at what is affectionately known as "The U" to college sports fans all across the globe.

We would simply like to add: "Be calm and 'Cane on!"

86 - gotta respectfully disagree. A program’s culture is everything. How do U think the Canes achieved a cut-throat, next man up, Uber competitive culture back the NC days? What you’re saying is don’t work hard just rest on your HS laurels your stars and get game time?!? Or am I misunderstanding U?

Now, I won’t pretend to know about Manny - if he’ll become a good coach or just go bust like the others. And I don’t know much about the individual players and their situations. I’m sure U and other bloggers know more. But I do know that every place has a culture. The U’s culture right now is a loser’s culture. So that must change. Recommend U ask Dabo about changing the culture. Or Tom Herman.

Vincent Thomas Lombardi

right now I do not see that in the hearts of coaches and players....they say it but do not show it every play every second....DJ Dallas wants to win....he shows it every play he is on the field....follow an example...

86Cane

I think we all know what Diaz is doing in not playing the best players. He is playing the players who are working hardest, following the "new" rules and setting an example of "how to be a Hurricane". He is trying to "change the culture" by rewarding those who fit the mold best on what he wants.

In the meantime he is losing a lot of football games because he feels that what he is doing is more important than winning. He feels that winning now is a compromise to the long term goals. What he doesn't understand is that unless he wins, he can't recruit. If he can't recruit, he can't win in the long term.

This is not 1980, 1984 or even 2000. The game has changed. "Changing the culture" is a forgotten concept. Coaches and players, with a few exceptions, are here today, gone tomorrow.

Winning is the ONLY thing.

Winning now is more important than ever.

And we definitely lack in that category.

This coaching staff isn't putting the best players on the field.

Derrick Smith was picking off passes left and right in camp. So they start the 2 safeties that can't cover...

How the fukk did they pick Jarren over Perry???

One of the quickest ways to kill the morale of a team in any sport, is to not play the best players.

There's more problems then this but damn...

Alpine that is a pretty incredible tune. Over the years...since that came out, I have made it a study to find all the albums Duane played session work on. I have them all, and some real rare singles he played on by obscure people not on the Anthologies Vol I and II.

A few years back, they released a 7 disc set called Skydog of a lot of the stuff. It was expensive like $500. I never got it, but I have a couple friends who own a place in CA called Real Gone Music. This summer they had a flash sale of about 10 copies of Skydog....but not 7 CD....rather a 14 LP box set...only 1,000 made in world. I got 1 for $206 sealed and shipped......like it so much bought another one!!
They are going for $250 to $600....high priced ones are sealed and low numbers....I have sealed and low #.....I have all the songs on my long search, so wanted sealed just to have as I am a serious vinyl collector!

I will judge Enos by how Perry played last season vs. how he plays this season. If I see improvement in Perry's play in this game, then I have to give Enos credit he deserves.

IMHO, the UVA coaches will definitely study Enos's route trees and plays from last week, and they will likely try to mix up the coverages to confuse Perry and drop deep a deep safety or two to take away Perry's deep ball.

When the Virginia safeties play deep like I expect, then it should open the running game, short-to-medium passes and RPOs.

IMHO, Virginia will try to force Perry to make the shorter throws consistently, and to force the Canes have patience on offense until the big play is there due to a WR matched up one-on-one with a safety or LB.

65% completion percentage, two sacks or less with no INTs should be the goal for Perry. IMHO, if Perry hits those goals everything else in the passing game will take care of itself, including multiple third down conversions and TDs. If so, the Canes will score a lot of points.

The Canes must find their running game. OLs must know their assignments, hold their blocks and play like grown men (I admit, the OL hasn't done that yet this season, but at least do a better job). Enos should feed DeeJay and CamRon, and get JT4, Wiggins and Pope going on jet sweeps, bubble screens to use their speed and playmaking ability. If the Canes rush the ball for 25+ times, and keep negative rushing plays to a minimum, they win this game easily.

86Cane

I'm going to hold off on the FUBAR blog until after the UVA game. Going to give Diaz and the boys another chance to stave off the FUBAR blog until further notice. Game day blog Friday 4 PM.

VA Cane...you keep missing the mark my friend.

Nobody here is saying that Billy Joel is the best musician ever, or that he is better than any other musician you can name. The fact is that you can like more than one type of music or more than one musician and that the enjoyment of music should be left to the listener.

In other words some people like steak, some like shrimp and others like steak AND shrimp. Some like chocolate, some vanilla and some like vanilla AND chocolate. You can like one or the other or even both without the other one being bad or wrong.

Dude on a Pale Horse

AD Dude is gonna bail us out with 2020 Coaching staff ideas again. Almost regardless of what Manny does from here, a change is probably necessary. As the AD I'm calling agents already.

HC: Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State)
OC: David Yost (Texas Tech)
OL: Alex Mirabal (Oregon)
RB: Jujuan Seider (Penn State)
WR: Trooper Taylor (Duke)
TE: Todd Hartley (Georgia)

Waiting on defense to see what happens with Charlie Strong and the Falcons staff too (Jess Simpson).
