Manny Diaz walked into the head coaching job at the University of Miami with the love and support of an overwhelming majority of Hurricane fans. He was the hero of the UM defense that had re-invented aggressive swagger and even invented the creative turnover chain.
He was a made man who could do no wrong.
He worked the transfer portal like a dealer at a blackjack table.
He and the fans placed their bets and they were all in.
Of course, that was all before the season started.
Then things started to get twisted and go awry.
The defense wasn't so aggressive or effective under a new coordinator and the offense, the sore spot under former coach Mark Richt, seemed like they couldn't score to save their lives.
Losses to lesser teams started to happen (again) and wins seemed painfully difficult against weaker opponents (again). But, here we are and here's the deal we are willing to make with you Manny Diaz.
You have a mission, should you choose to accept it:
- Priority #1 is BEAT FSU.
- Win the remaining games in 2019.
- Show us that the team is improving late in the season.
- Give us hope for 2020.
- Don't screw this up.
Do this and maybe some other impressive things and all will be forgiven.
Fail and the wrath of Miami fans will fall on you like a anchor around your neck.
Or maybe a small plane with a large banner in the sky.
Until then, we wish you faith, hope and love.
And maybe even a little luck on the side.
Alas, for Butch the lure of Cleveland was too strong. He went over to the Brown side.

I heard that the Canes have some offers out to some OL, but was surprised to hear that they have some offers to a few 3-4 star late-blooming WRs and CBs in Central and North Florida.
I wonder what is going on?
I hope we can keep Rivers and Williams from Oakleaf. We need OL and DL, and I was fortunate to see them play earlier in the season in North Florida. We lost some really good commits, and we once again let the top South Florida area OLs, but have a solid class overall.
This FSU game means a lot for recruiting

Beatrice Mompremier, University of Miami women's basketball player, talks to the press during UM Basketball Media Day at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. BY MATIAS J. OCNER
Another day, another honor for Beatrice Mompremier.
The University of Miami basketball player was named an Associated Press Preseason All-American on Thursday, just the second player in the women’s program history to earn that honor. The other was Shenise Johnson in 2011.
Joining her on the AP team are Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon), Chennedy Carter (Texas A&M), Kaila Charles (Maryland) and Lauren Cox (Baylor)

Anthony Gordon QB for Washington St. played for a junior college, had zero d1 college offers.
Leach watched him play and said Washington State had a place for him.
He sat on the bench and waited while Washington States qbs ahead of him ran the Air Raid.
He started this year and is throwing at 70 percent, 3,387 and 32 tds so far ...including 9 against UCLA,
Remember this kid had no offers until Leach saw him.
I think Leach is better than Enos at everything on offense.
Posted by: solarcane | November 01, 2019 at 04:03 PM
We could only imagine what leach’s offenses are the U could do with the talent down here
Now back to reality - we are stuck with manny Diaz and dan enos

Would Leach leave a school that gave him a second chance, let’s him do what he wants, and he gets to live in the realm of low expectations to com ehere where he’d get none of that?
Posted by: Schnelly | November 01, 2019 at 06:03 PM
Aero,Big Al,
Leach always gets the most out of 2 and 3 star players.
At Texas Tech he got the players Oklahoma and Texas didn't want.
At Washington State, he gets the leftovers from Oregon,Washington and all the California schools.
Manny has done less with more so far, but Leach has years of HC experience.
Leach knows to talk to the press about Geronimo or pirates rather than Manny talking about the big strides his program is making without scoring points or tackling.

Schnelly you are probably right, when we chose Golden while Leach was available fishing with Jimmy in the keys we fkdup
I think if Mike didn't cram James's kid in that box we would be scoring 40 or 50 points a game right now.

Leach obviously really knows how to recruit and develop great college QBs. Enough said, Solar. Not every coach has Leach’s talent for recognition and development.

Oh come on dude, everybody knows that scoring points and tackling are OVER-rated. Now changing the culture, yeah, that's where it is at!
Posted by: 58 Straight | November 01, 2019 at 11:03 PM
Sick of hearing about the dam culture. Out score your oponets that's simple or should be. If they sucked, say they sucked, if they played good, say they played good. Beating around the bush with propaganda don't get it.

1- ever expect the dolphins to have SIX canes on the roster??!!
2- besides the 3 mentioned, i know we have walton & hurns = 5
. . . can anyone tell me who #6 is? who am i missing?

LB Trent Harris.
So Walton, Hurns, Walford, Harris, Willis, Isidora = 6.
I'm not overly thrilled to have six Canes playing for what might end up being one of the worst teams in NFL history, though.

thanks vfb!! (that was driving me crazy)
and if the 6 canes stick, you know what they say:
- "wait 'til next year"!!
- "a hurricane is comin'"!!
- "just need to acCULTURatE this team"!!
Posted by: alpine | November 02, 2019 at 06:35 AM
acculturate:
isn't it amazing, that there is word beginning with "ACC"
. . . organically transforms from there into "CULTURE"
. . . but before "culture" can finish, a "RAT" sneaks in?!
. . . and yes, that speaks volumes to how one can "RATE" the culture
did someone from canespace invent this word?

Keep CA under 100 yds, be leading or within 7 at halftime I think we win.
The Feeley influence might be the difference.
Florida State has made a habit of second-half collapses this season.
The Seminoles blew a 31-13 lead against Boise State, a 24-7 lead against Louisiana-Monroe before winning 45-44 in overtime, were outscored 21-7 in the fourth quarter in a loss at Virginia and allowed 10 fourth-quarter points in a 22-20 loss at Wake Forest.

Cager now leads the country in contested catches. I would like to ask him what the difference is between Miami and Georgia. Im sure its coaching but I would love to hear what he has to say.

My 19yo ex sister-in-law, the Aunt to my daughter's, was pronounced brain dead Thursday night after a tragic car accident. Today we will have an Honor Walk as we celebrate her gift of life to others who will be receiving her organs. Spacers, tell your kids you love them, tell them often. For those that pray this family can use some. For those that don't, positive thoughts are welcome. Be safe out there spacers.... and Go CANES!!

Solar I like your analysis. FSU is in the shape we are fromm what I could see from that Wake Forest game. We are capable of winning this game, but hopefully it does not come down to kicking (they are having issues as well).

umike - many of us have had close ones involved in tragedy, including the young
. . . each in our own way have some sort of understanding of the pain, deep sadness and general difficulty you and your family are going thru
