8th Man in the Box

This "Director of Football Operations" idea is just plain stupid. If CMD can't do his job, FIRE HIM.
UM doesn't need to hire someone to help CMD run the football program. The football program needs someone to fire CMD.

If UM is not going to drop bags on players, then they need to sink some SERIOUS cash into the football program; infrastructure in particular.
Better recruiting evaluators, better coaches and recruiters. Miami has to do something outside of the box to gain some sort of competitive advantage. I all for giving people their fair shots, but there is nothing evident as of today that makes me think Blake and Manny would make the necessary changes to save either of their jobs. Torpedoing the entire coaching staff next year sets us back years again. Miami needs to make serious and aggressive moves to save this program.

raize

That`s what I said too lol

I got no idea where we are headed but it isn't up.
There are only 130 spots and we are 90.
Moving up the rankings ten spots in a year would seem like progress.
If we move up 10 spots next year we will move all the way up to putrid.

2 things VA:

1- "There comes a time when you realize you are closer to the end than the beginning"
. . . YES!! this is me! . . . i don't teach football, but, like you, i've been around and i have a grizzled, ornery side
2- your niece had problems with PEOPLE; not with LIBERALS
. . . if you don't understand that at your age, you've missed out on one of the most important & interesting life cruises
. . . instead, you might wind up being one of the short-a-few-morals people, who believe that someone with an american mother, who had a usa birth certificate, who goes regularly to church, is probably still not an american or a christian - because that person is supposedly one of those "liberals" or "socialists"; has a muslim-sounding name and doesn't look anglo-saxon

good clarification

don't know if or what it might change, but personally i'd love to see a football guru like highsmith walk into the building

Advice that has endured on here for over a decade.

Highsmith was NOT going to be the Savior
Only firing manny and hiring the right person will accomplish anything good

Spot on!
We don't need a Chief of Staff (whatever the hell THAT is for a college football program). What we need is a reputable Head Coach (to replace CMD ASAP).

Go Canes!!

College football is as close to professional football as it's ever been. Watching the way those final 4 teams performed a couple of nights ago was really incredible to watch. We are so far away from putting a product on the field and just as importantly on the sidelines it's frightening.

It's not as simple as getting a good coach and a competent AD anymore. We absolutely do need a dedicated person in charge of just our football operations.

This man has to have the ability to do everything from evaluate coaches to properly allocate the 10s of millions of dollars flowing through this program every year.

It's too much to ask an AD to know enough to do everything needed to run a top flight football program in addition to all the other sports we offer, especially college basketball, which is also a cash cow.

Zo seems to fit that bill, having worked his way to the top from the ground floor. Only question appears to be how much power he would have.

Manny looks to be balking at that part of it. That eliminates ANY margin for error he had going into 2020.

We'll see how it turns out.

Per BARRY JACKSON Twitter account:

“Alonzo has a powerful backer at UM, but not the ultimate decision maker. UM relayed he's being considered after talking to him. But my sense, talking to UM people (not Highsmith) is that Diaz might prefer someone who would be more assistant than alpha male who could make changes.“

solarcane

Windy
I think the same thing.
Diaz is always hero worshiping past players, but I think he is afraid of someone that would second guess his decisions.

Armchairboyz

What we need is a soccer guru in charge of football. I think Jake Blames forte is Chess. What will be might next move, huh. Made a quick last time and got checkmated.

TJL

I hear Alonzo just got fired

Miami Clemson basketball 4pm ACC network.

Be nice to see Miami heat Clemson at something.

Go Sully

Joe

Alonzo could be AD in waiting pending next seasons success. Manny sounds scared of his strong personality and I'm sure he would ruffle some feathers that need to be ruffled. I'm all for Highsmith with this new position. Lots of colleges are going to it. Also, Alonzo would prioritize getting a Mario Cristobal as the new AD, whom Blake James doesnt like.

Joe

I meant hiring Mario Cristobal as new HC as his first priority after being named new AD if next season isnt any better.

We all know that the U has been hated for putting beat downs on the big boys. After the fight with the ncaa that was directed at us because we beat up Nebraska the school hired an ad who was put in place to keep the school out of trouble. Now we are flying a white flag and forced to accept that the bot does not want the trouble that cones with standing up to the bully. Until we get an ad who likes the pressure of being hated we will keep being irrelevant.

mi@

You think the coaches and the boosters are ruthless competitors on game day but nice people when they recruit then you have your head in the sand. It takes an ad that is tough as nails to keep the schools from out recruiting us in south Florida.

m8@

The old days when people believed in honor are gone. The NFL has stricter drug testing than the NCAA. There is too much money to allow the universities to conduct the test
You may not accuse the head coach of direct involvement in giving the player a steroid but he would turn his head as long as the boosters were satisfied. It's just human nature when there is a lot of money involved.

The Athletic Director at Clemson is a Miami graduate, was the athletic business director at Miami 83 to 85, went to LSU to be their Athletic Director, then went to Clemson as their Athletic Director.

This is the guy we need, been AD at all winning programs, a UM grad too.

Our problems actually are from our Board of Trustees being inept. They are the real problem. Go on Twitter and Follow Brian The Beast London he also has a YouTube Page listen and watch his video today on The State of The U concerning the Alonzo Highsmith debacle and it becomes crystal clear. David Epstein, Ed Williamson, Paul Dimare, etc are the main problem. Targeting Flake James and Palmetto 57th Manny is easy and they deserve blame without question they are about 35% of the problem. The Board of Trustees are 65% of the problem. Happy New Year and Decade Canespace Fam. I love y'all.

Just trying to get a post from the dude

Who the hell would want to come to work for CMD now, knowing that Manolito may be fired next year, and that his replacement (#TheNewestMiami head coach) will then fire most all of CMD's underlings?

45 minutes. A very clutch quarter hour.

Vernon Jr. is in better overall physical condition than Nelson was last year though so we'll see how they defend the next one to try and keep that winning streak intact.
