Today it was announced by the University of Miami that Alonzo Highsmith may be coming home to help his Miami Hurricanes Football team try to regain its rightful place among college football elites and a return to its glory days.
On the surface, and as a move in the right direction, we would like that a lot.
However, we must caution the highly respected Mr. Highsmith that while we believe he absolutely has the "right stuff" given his credentials as a player and player personnel director in the NFL to accomplish his goals here at UM, he definitely has his work cut out for him. And we are dead serious.
The coaching staff needs to be improved today.
The roster composition needs work over time.
The level of talent needs to be improved as soon as possible.
The off-season conditioning program needs work.
The practice field competition level needs to be improved.
The offensive and defensive schemes need work going forward.
Special teams is an outright disaster and the "coach" needs to be fired now.
That is just a short list and scratching the surface of what needs to be fixed to make this program right. Notice we didn't mention the "culture of the program" like the current head coach has done numerous times.
That is just loser talk for "we don't pratice or play well, our fundamentals are horrible, our play calling is suspect, we don't use our talent effectively and we can't win games against significantly inferior teams."
Start practicing and playing hard, start winning games that you should win, stop blaming players or making excuses for the coaching failures and maybe, just maybe. the "culture will change".
If you choose to accept this position, we wish you all of the support that you will most certainly need to turn this quickly sinking ship around Mr. Highsmith.
And get to work making us proud to throw up "The U" once again!

Read this slowly...you know he now has some SERIOUS regrets about leaving and had he lived up to this statement both he, and us the fans, would be much better off for it. We may have avoided these 15 years of miseey we have been suffering.
But I don't hold it against him and when he took his team of unwanted misfits at FIU and beat our azzes this year on the field where it counts it was his crowning moment.
You may hate the man for "lying" but you have to respect him for what he has accomplished. He beat Miami while at FIU.
That is a miracle all to itself.
And that you have to admit.

Davis has been a head coach 13 years he has a winning percentage just above 60% counting all schools.
2/3(66%) of a twelve game season is 8 games. That would make Davis as Terrence stated an 8-4 coach.

We keep complaining about how we're not giving out the bags like Clemson or Bama, how we don't have top notch recruiters (closers) or we can't get the qb, why not go back with the ultimate guy? He covered all bases from the head coach position. He basically recruited the perfect team that covered up for a 7th round draft pick qb.

Didn't Davis pick the teams he coached at? If he was a tremendous coach when he came back to college coaching would he be at a basketball school or say Ohio State,Penn State etc?

Couple of things about the recent blog entries:
1) Mario's team was totally outplayed last night but still found a way to win. If Wisconsin doesn't turn it over four times, including the most wtf thing I've seen in a long time from their punter, everyone would be railing him for putting up 200 yds of offense behind the best OL and QB in the PAC 12.
But Wisconsin did and they capitalized on it. That's what good teams do.
2) Butch is a lying snake who's time here ended the day he slithered out of town here in 2000. Used to like him and understood why he bolted but the way he's continued to try and rewrite history the last few years shows him for exactly what he is.
He has one 10 win season in TWENTY years of coaching and beating this pathetic, lazy, poorly coached Canes team makes him 0% more qualified to ever be on our sidelines again. He is an average coach who struck lightning in a bottle, once.

Let's try to be clear:
1. I am not one of those who is saying BBB (Bring Back Butch) at THIS time in history. But I do wish he had never left and/or left the way he did. I think it was the biggest mistake in his career.
2. I was in favor of brining him back when we hired Golden or Richt. Golden was probably a mistake and the mistake he made was not firing his butt buddy No D or he may still be here.
3. When we hired Richt the knock against Butch then was he was too old and tired to bring him back. Turns out that is exactly what Richt was, and now he too, is history.
4. The bottom line is this: The ONLY argument I am making is that for as bad as Butch is for lying and "slithering out of town" is that he is better than the current head coach we have as he demonstrated where it counts, on the field. To that there is no arguement or debate.
So for people to trash Butch as morally inferior human being who once made the tragic mistake of telling a lie is just ludicrous. If we had a halfway decent head coach we wouldn't even be talking about Butch. But we don't.
So where does that leave us? It leaves us living here in our pretty little glass house throwing rocks around everywhere after being soundly beaten by Butch and band of FIU rejects and rag tags living with "what could never happen".
Life is strange that way, wouldn't you agree?
