Ed REED, WOW, maybe he gets s chance to get one of these late commit's to change their mind, maybe two.
Imagine you are recruit from south Florida, a corner back, safety or defensive player and Ed Reed
comes up to you and says "we need you dog we need ya" you never know.

Baxa was awful, but when a kicker gets the shanks it's very tough to any coach to fix. This isn't the NFL where you can just cut a guy and bring another one in, we had to scramble with walk ons.

Aside from him, special teams were much improved last season.

Osborn was 3rd in the country in average punt returns:

https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/individual/15

Headley was 26th did a great job pinning other teams deep:

https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/individual/17

Finley played great football all season at striker and I can't remember giving up a punt or KO TD this season, but don't hold me to it.

That's a pretty dramatic turnaround from 2018 don't you think?

There’s no way Manny could or should survive that.

Is Reed an improvement over nobody?

***********************************************

My answer to all the above is "NO" and only because we have not seen the new additions with the existing Canes.

solarcane

Fair enough raize

I already feel no Enos/Williams is an improvement in that the doomed atmosphere that they cast over the team was a cancer and that has been eliminated.
What Reed brings we will have to wait and see.

TheHerb

Schnelly,
Come on dude, those are improvements, u can say it. I know your bitter and so is The Herb BUT it ain't always going to be this way. I know 16 years is a long time BUT look how long it took for us to get good to begin with.
The changes are good, I want to see results on the field starting with the first game. No more scrapping by bottom feeders or losing to them because if that happens, judgement day is coming for Manuel.

Does Reed help us get William's, winning and thumping heads may help. These supposed superstars love some flavors of the month and as long as the SEC is strong they will continue to mow our back yard.
The only saving grace is if we make it too the ACC championship game against Clemson and we look good winning or losing and of course we win the bowl game. Now as u know most if our recruiting class will probably be full when and if that happens but it should help elevate the class of 22.

DallasTX Cane

HUGE improvements this off season. Addition by subtraction in several cases. Players out past curfew the night before laying a massive turd vs FIU leave the team better off when they leave! Enos - and I admit being very hopeful re that crap addict - became the problem.

2 problems HAD to be addressed: The lack of even a semblance of an offense AND the piss poor losing attitude and lack of effort. CMD has addressed both. It’s on Lashlee to cure the offense. #20 will immediately cure the attitude. Boys better become MEN real fast.

Only word of caution.... building a winning program doesn’t happen overnight and last. We’ve been fooled before by a single good season that is inevitably followed up with crap. We’ll be good before great and great before champions again. Success will bring in the “stars”... but CMD & Co must learn to win with what we got - the “stars” aren’t coming south based on words and promises. If the offense works and we start playing good ball, the winning will follow, and then the recruiting rankings will go up.

I do see a lot of Change...

86 Change is the most important aspect of Real Property...not size, location, bedrooms, lot...it is change....a paltry corner can go to a high dollar lot due to a zoning change....a fine suburban community can decline change and allow a hog farm due to a zoning change...its forever changing...AS YOU KNOW fellow expert!!!

change we have seen at UM in a short time...I wanted the BOT AD and coaches fired...but it did not happen and probably a little drastic on me...JMO

Manhole got rid of people...EnosPa (for you CGNC)had to go...it just did not work. He has gotten wise to Offense...we had to change to the spread run shoot aerial attack whatever you want to call it...what JK Bernie Vinnie Erickson Walsh Gino and KD11 did does not matter...this aint then! Lashley has a nice attack...but it will not happen immediately. King is a working part of this O. He will not be Joe Burrow tomorrow...but its a start. We have picked up a couple guys that will help..good DE kicker. The OL is the glaring weakness....King cannot run forever on every play. The slow plodding cinder block footed fat lazy stupid lineman must be dismissed...whomever it is or all of them...there is no room here.

The real key is the attitude. I am certain ER20 has that covered. The old cry pout love losing hang with my guys has got to go! We must learn to HATE losing it may happen but there are consequences for it....we must learn to HATE HIT HURT every play in practice scrimmage spring game regular game bowl game...hate your teammate in practice and beat him for PT....there is no love on the field for anyone except on SAT...love your guys!

I want all of this badly...but it will not happen overnight. I do think they are good moves...but time has a way of slowing hopes and dreams down. All must buy in ....BOT AD ER20 Manhole Staff and players....

I look forward to seeing this progress on the filed not on paper...it is a start...we have been here before, but at least Manhole did not hesitate...he did something quick and swift!

Look, we ALL understand that you are butt hurt. We all are and we have all been in your shoes at one time or another. But to be negative in the face of positive news is the same idiotic behavior as being positive in the face of negative news.

When Go Canes was trying to keep hope alive when we knew it was already dead we gave him the business. But he was a grown man, stood his ground, never ran away and hid and took a couple solid blows to the head and gave some back. Eventually he played fair and square and admitted that myabe his hopes were too high for too long. And we all gained more respect for him as a result. Well everyone but OGV but you get what I am saying.

Now we are going to give you the business and you need to shift your negativitiy for negativity's sake just because you are hurt and bitter. If you need a safe space or a blanky or your Mommy or a bottle of Vodka and valium or a night in Vegas then just go and cleanse yourself from your inner demons and just let go.

Because if not we are going to send you for your first and possibly last meeting with #20 Ed Reed. And like SolarCane said he will tell you very politely: Sit the fyk down and shut the fyk up!

VA Cane

I have to see progress on the field...and I have said my piece through all the years...I am hard on Manhole...i am a coach and I have done a lot with it...BUT...I still have to give people credit..Manny BJ and the BOT...they have miffed me...but some moves were made some things got done there WERE some changes and we got a few kids. It aint Disneyland but its people not not sitting on there hands....change 89 change...The Key..in real estate...and when things go bad...change it!! I want to see results on the field..but the work since the bowl increases the chances result can happen!

Let me try to use an analogy. Blogging is like...

It's raining outside right now and the optimist says yeah but it was sunny yesterday or it might be sunny tomorrow. While that is true that fact is that it is raining right now.

It's sunny outside right now and the pessimist says yeah but it was raining yesterday and it might rain again tomorrow. While that is true the fact is that it is sunny outside right now.

There are times when it is raining (bad news), and at times really hard (more bad news). At those times say it is raining all you want.

There are times when it is sunny (good news), and at times really sunny (more good news). Say it is sunny when the sun is shining bright.

Call it like it is (good/bad, sunny/rainy) not like you want it to be or don't want it to be.

While we ALL agree that the season did not go well and certainly did not end well, the fact is that the news coming out of Coral Gables since the season ended has been positive. Enjoy it while you can!

Nobody here can pretend to know how much impact the changes will have on next season but Terrance's approach had been very measured and reasonable in gradually upping his win total with each positive indicator. I think that is a good model for each of us to try to follow.

Oh, and no extra fee. The blog is still FREE!

Calais Campbell chosen NFL Man of the Year
By The Associated Press Associated Press FEBRUARY 1, 2020 — 6:pm

Jacksonville Jaguars edge rusher Calais Campbell has won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Eli Manning, a former winner who just retired as quarterback of the New York Giants, presented the award at NFL Honors.

The award recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. First established in 1970, the national award was renamed in 1999 after the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back.

In 2009, Campbell formed the CRC Foundation alongside his mother Natea and has engaged in numerous charitable initiatives throughout his 12-year NFL career. The CRC Foundation, named for his late father, Charles, who passed away in 2003, is committed to the enhancement of the community through the teaching of critical life skills to young people. Through sports, creative talents, vocational skills, financial skills and quality health and nutrition, the CRC Foundation is dedicated to developing young people into empowered and self-aware leaders for the future.

I give credit when credit is due. These are GREAT hires! I am not a fan of CMD, but they have really surrounded CMD with some good coaches and advisers. OC Lashlee, OL Coach Justice, COS Ed Reed, and now WR Coach Likens and Lockett as an analyst. I don’t think CMD can fail, if he just empowers them to do their job and stays out of their way.

Herb I heard Lamar Thomas was In the the running.

I think his on camera comments on the brawl, and then the Kentucky fans jumping all over him for shaking Lamar Jackson's hand right after the Louisville vs Kentucky fight might hinder him a bit.

The guy recruits Lamar Jackson while he's wide receiver coach at Louisville, then goes to Kentucky to be receiver coach.

Kentucky and Louisville brawl and Thomas shakes Jackson's hand on camera and gets branded a traitor, football fans can be pure azz at times.

VA Cane

More and more change....credit to the program....it is easy to sit on ones hands and do nothing....got to say I like seeing problems addressed and change where it is obviously needed. I think the biggest issue is the attacking offense..its time.

Was listening to JJ on tv Friday...he kept on talking about attacking offense attacking defense....its sweet music....I have been doing attack football since I started coaching....it is nice to hear JJ talk about it. another thing I was impressed with was him talking about game day management...being ready, not taking delay of game offside motion penalties, using the clock wisely...getting out of bounds when needed, managing the time outs....so impressive. He also said as HC you just do not turn your team over to the OC or DC or ST coach...you have to be involved in all phases of your attacks..you are the head guy!

JJ is a very wise man...glad he is talking to Manhole and I bet it is about the above. ER20 will also be as good influence...and a hard one on the lazy apathetical just here to be here losing aint a big deal guys...the Evan Sheriffs FOS players will not be welcome. You better hate losing every day....you better come here and be ready to fight with fists if needed for PT.....every man must hate to lose....not just accept it as part of life.

I like what I am seeing....got to give people credit for good as we put blame on them for the bad. Keep working at it change is good!

solarcane

I can't remember ASU scoring any points? Were they good receivers?

VA Cane

I don’t think CMD can fail, if he just empowers them to do their job and stays out of their way.

Well put BWC He needs to let them use their talent to coach....and still know what is going on...open to new and different ideas....try different approaches....and get input....got to like what you see.

I have no problem addressing the bad, and I give credit to the program...ACTION not words!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!

solarcane

I'm confused,
We are gonna hire a wide receivers coach from a team that scores less a game than the 2019 Miami Hurricanes?

Points/G: 24.8 (96th of 130)

BigWindyCane1

I think Lashlee can use an experienced coach with OC experience at a major FBS program. That is an element that the program lacked last season. The Canes also have Lockett who will help recruiting, but will also provide more expertise and winning experience in the coaches room.

Go Canes!!

Another great, great hire for Manny. He’s slaying it right now. Very impressed.

Solar Lamar was looked at but I think Diaz wanted someone who is spread oriented or should I say Lashlee wanted. He got the people he wanted
It's for sure now Manny has plenty of sharks floating all around him now. If he was canned tomorrow, we now have 2 to 3 ex coaches on staff, who could take over as interim if he gets canned.
I'm sure he wanted to can Enos sooner but had no one with coordinator experience on staff.

solarcane

Ok Herb I get you.
If Lashlee picked Likens I'm sure he knows what the dude is all about.

I am good with everything I see so far.
If Lashlee and King can beat our D pass rush with our current offensive line, and Likens teaches the receivers to catch the ball, we should be competitive in the ACC and put some teams away.

Thank U Soupster.

BigWindyCane1

Interesting post I saw after someone posted about 22 year-old Lamar Jackson, who was a three star QB recruit.

From lightly recruited to the Super Bowl:

Three-star recruits— Mahomes, Kittle, Sherman and Clark, Mostert, Damian Williams

Two-star recruits—Kelce, Garoppolo, Staley, Sanders

Zero-Star recruits— Hill, Juszczyk

The leading skill players on both teams are all represented on this list

BigWindyCane1

Now that the Canes are going more to the spread, I wonder how much of an impact that will make in identifying recruiting targets?

I am sure more recruits will be excited, but will the Canes target and value more skill-position recruits who have track speed and elusiveness, and shy away from some of the pro style athletes that the Canes have typically focused on?

The start seems to be with D’Eriq King, who will bring an athletic dimension to the QB position and to the whole entire offense, and the Canes have never had a QB like him before. The new WR recruit, Smith from San Diego seems like more of a spread receiver.

I am anxious to see how Lashlee implements his offense with the current players, and recruits new players

86Cane

and Likens teaches the receivers to catch the ball, we should be competitive in the ACC and put some teams away.

Wait a minute there bucko, now you want the receivers to actually "catch the ball"?

That's asking quite a lot don't U think?

HerbieIbis

A majority of these kids have played in some Kind of spread offense.
We need the WR'S taught the art of separation. We also need to find a WR in the portal (Black) that is tall. Except for Wiggins, everyone is 6'1 or shorter.
Our line will be good enough in this offense, not great or anything but if King has to hold the ball more than 3 seconds he'll be running for his life saying to himself "what have I gotten myself into".
Switching the offense up it will take time for all to get a grasp for it, how much time, is a big ? Mark. Hopefully before the season starts. King should be able to mask any early short comings.
Some kids are late bloomers and some grow into their bodies late. The NFL is loaded with those type players from smaller schools, who were over looked by big schools.
Just like there is a graveyard of former 5 star players from college that didn't make it in the pros or great college players or couldn't hack it in the NFL.
