alpine

mompremier also still out for her 10th straight

BigWindyCane1

Alpine,
Montpieirre would help a lot. She is a difference maker for sure

alpine

windy, i agree that the mens frosh are getting much better very quick
. . . if they don't have a sophmore slump
. . . and if walker can bring more maturity to his energetic game, the canes should be interesting next year

of course, we'll probably have the usual injuries or the cia will find some canes shorts with monica lewinsky stains or something

alpine

mensch, the women are fierce on the defense; got a couple good LB's in there

. . . but it looks like enos found a job as womens bb O-coordinator

alpine

canes women getting killed by 25 after 3 q's
. . . i can't watch anymore; canes couldn't buy a basket tonite if they owned ebay

AeroCane

Just turned on the Men’s basketball game. The Canes are within striking distance, but turnovers have been our Achilles heel all season. Lack of assists and ball movement have also been an issue.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1

Lol
You just defined a bad basketball team!

alpine

Posted by: AeroCane | February 02, 2020 at 03:53 PM

- our 2 best ball handlers were out (injuries)
. . . so they pressed our ball handlers the whole game

. . . but actually, there was some decent movement
. . . especially getting the ball into the paint to the bigs

- the frosh need time, but they're coming along nicely

- one disappointment this season is keith stone, who just can't overcome the injuries long enough to get meaningful minutes and get rid of the rust

alpine

aero - out of curiosity, do you just troll coach L & the bb team out of your usual "nattering nabob of negativity" pattern/habit?

or do you actually keep up with the team and watch the games?

AeroCane

Alpine
I can’t watch them - as little as I know about basketball, I do watch once in a while and I think we are terribly coached
MO and I’m sticking with it
I would personally like us to go with a younger ‘with it’ coach
I’m sure you still thought Morris was ok during his last 4 to 5 years as well. When it’s time, I like decisions to be made. We need to move on from him
Some of you act like he’s in his first or second year - he’s not FYI

AeroCane

PS alpine, the last I heard, excuses are for losers and coming close is still counted as an effing loss!

BigWindyCane1

Aero, let me look at the stats to see if what you say have merit.
🤔

The Canes are a middle of the pack team in scoring, field goal percentage and three point percentage. Not bad.

However, the Canes turn the ball over and aren’t good on defense.

The Canes are last in the ACC in assists at 10.4 per game, and next to last in assist-to-turnovers. The leader in assists for the Canes is Lykes, at 2.6 per game, which ranks him tied for #21 in the ACC. Harland BEVERLY is second on the Canes at 2.5 per game. Both have an assist-to-turnover ratio isn’t even in the top 50 of the ACC.

The Canes are last in the ACC in almost every defensive category (scoring, field goal percentage allowed, etc).

The Canes are also last in the ACC in rebounding, at 29.4 per game.

Aero, I guess you have a point. Our basketball team isn’t very good.

So if you are a 5 year old girl, or boy for that matter, and ever wondered what it looks like to go to a strip club, now you know. If I were a parent of a young child who just watched that I would be angry, insulted and protesting.

But I am not.

I watched it with my wife, who thought the same thing and I did.

AeroCane

Me too 86
I said to my wife:
I’d rather see Paul McCartney or Aerosmith or Led Zeppelin out there

Aero...sex sells, I get it. If I bought a ticket to see their concert I would accept what I get.

But on the Super Bowl with the kids watching?

But on the Super Bowl with the grandmas watching?

But on the Super Bowl with the WORLD watching?

No wonder the world hates us.

DallasTX Cane

No wonder the world hates us.

-Cause our 50 & 43 yr old pop stars are hot as F?!?

DallasTX Cane

Ok, yeah... I was a little surprised at how far they took it tonight. SB tends to go back n forth. Push the envelope, then cross the line (Janet Jackson anyone?), then ten years of boring inoffensive crap.

Oh and the game wasn’t bad either. After a sleeper of a 1st half

alpine

super hyped bowl is finished??!!

- those are good stat-finds, windy (except "assist-to-turnover ratio isn’t even in the top 50 of the ACC" . . . how many ACC teams??!!); i appreciate you finding those stats!

- but doesn't it sound like they should be pure shyt with those kinds of stats??!!

- and yet, they have 3 ACC wins (same as wake forest and blue blood NC); they took top 10 FSU to overtime, running out of gas from lack of players; they also beat top 20 illinois on the road; came close to getting a win over pitt last night despite being down lykes, mcgusty, gak

yes, they can get blown out by the dukes & louisvilles; sometimes their scoring droughts and lack of ball movement is frustrating to watch
. . . but coach L has them playing hard, and every single player that's been around a couple years has shown noticeable improvement

alpine

PS alpine, the last I heard, excuses are for losers and coming close is still counted as an effing loss!
Posted by: AeroCane | February 02, 2020 at 04:26 PM

- sometimes reasons are excuses, sometimes they are simply common sense reasons

- as i posted much earlier in response to something you (or nemo?) said about morris; i definitely wanted him gone much earlier; it was easy to see that he had lost it his last decade as a coach . . . not the same situation as coach L

AeroCane

. . . but coach L has them playing hard, and every single player that's been around a couple years has shown noticeable improvement

Posted by: alpine

Ok
That’s acceptable
However when I’ve watched them they just don’t ‘look good’ - they seem to play way out of control with no real scheme like I see with some of these other teams

BigWindyCane1

Alpine,

Basically, the Canes lack true ball handlers, point guards and playmakers. There are more than 50 players in the ACC that have an assist-to-turnover ratio better than Lykes and McGusty. There are 21 players in the ACC with more assists per game than Lykes. Basically, the Canes don’t have any PLAYERS who can or will make plays for others. Couple this with the fact that they are last in the ACC in assists, and this means the Canes score through individual moves and less through ball movement. Easy baskets are rare. This is why the Canes struggle on offense at times.

On defense and rebounding, the Canes are dead last in the most important categories. Good teams are much better on defense. Basically, the Canes don’t have good defensive players. Coach L sometimes goes into a zone to hide those deficiencies, but for the first time under Coach L, I see the canes don’t have any good defensive players on this roster.

They do play hard, and the freshmen should improve, but they need recruits who can pass, move without the ball, minimize turnovers, rebound, defend and other important characteristics of a good basketball team.

As for improvement this season, Coach L also needs to design a better offense to for ball and player movement. He also needs to bench players who don’t box out and play tough defense, and play those who want to defend

HerbieIbis

Miami got into the ACC to help their basketball program, if truth be known. Now it has helped but Miami is in basketball what most of the ACC is in football mediocre and don't get me wrong, until we prove otherwise we have become that also.

BigWindyCane1

CGNC,

We all know that defense wins championships! San Francisco has a great defense.

Therefore, my pick is . . . .Kansas City (Mahomes)!

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 29, 2020 at 06:00 PM

CGNC,
Great game last night. I guess we both picked KC.

Great to see Andy Reid finally get his Super Bowl win. Reid is a good guy.

KC defense stepped up, and played good defense. DC Steve Spagnola had a great game plan, and OC Eric Bieneimy also had a great game plan. Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL right now, and he proved it last night. He did whatever it took to win, and we was unbelievable in the clutch.

Re: kids not knowing who ED REED is?
If they’ve played defense or DB or special teams
They Should!

If I’m a college or high school football player I’m soaking everything that comes from that dude!

God’s blessings on you and your family
Dare I say it?
Go Canes! Get some!

You are correct Mark.
As Canes fans we KNOW who Reed is but if you are a 17 year old safety in high school in California you may have no idea.

How many if todays high school linebackers can name what college Dick Butkus played for or who he was?

Solar
I see your point brother.
Maybe my orange and green goggles typing there

I, like most here are hopeful that he’s involved with nuances of the game that made him so successful and he can impact the entirety of our beloved Canes football program. Whether film study, technique, accountability, etc.

I know Butkus played for the bears and ripped people’s heads off but no college knowledge here.

Mark

Wardenburg needs to lose his minutes next season in the rotation by transfer or benching unless he develops a way to score with his back to the basket in the offseason.

Recruiting blunder from down under can't get out of the program fast enough either.

solarcane

I love Reed being on staff also.
I am confident every "new" Cane will be very aware of who Reed is and what he did before they play a down in a Hurricane uniform.

If you are going to Miami at GT this year maybe we can meet, I have always held you in high regard as far as Cane fans go.

Butkus spent his entire football career in Illinois. Fighting Illini, Chicago Bears

trivia more pitbulls are named Butkus than any other football player.

i've been disagreeing with you regarding vasiljevic
. . . last night is a good example, why i like him and will miss him

- knowing how amazing his 3-pt. shooting is, pitt blanketed him every time he got the ball in the backcourt . . . so:

1- it sometimes opened up some inside stuff for our canes

2- since he couldn't get any clean 3-pt shots, he went ahead to the basket . . . and though he always looks a little wild & incompetent (he is not a natural dribbler) he managed to make 3 baskets and drew fouls on 3 other attempts, going 4-5 at the FT and wound up with 10 valuable points

3- "lil V" wound up with 9 rebounds (the next nearest cane had 5) in 39 minutes; miller & walker with their combined 39 minutes had 6 rebounds total

- you can see that vasiljevic has embraced a leadership role this year; he does a lot of the talking and setting up and provides a good steady presence and is money on FT's

so personally, i'm VERY pleased that he's still on the team, despite the fact that he's limited physically, which can and does impact him negatively on the defensive side sometimes
. . . again, somehow the little dude uses will power to get those rebounds

alpine

waardenburg is a difficult one
- i was not real fond of him the first couple years
- this year, imo, he's made some real progress:

- mostly, he seems much stronger and agressiv'er on the D, and we really need that this year!

- on the O side, he has games where he's enough of a force that the other team has to pay attention to him . . . he's also a pretty decent passer and has a good eye
- but there are still too many games, like last night, where he seems uncertain and unconfident in his shot

- i'm looking forward to seeing whether he takes yet another step next year or whether he's already found his upper limit

alpine

OGV (or anyone else):

- what do you think about our bigs in 2020?

- with miller, gak & walker, how do see minutes given?

- what do you think of walker?

I agree! I have been a fan of Mahomes since last year - he is the realest of deals. 24 years old and eye of the tiger on the side line - at the very end telling his teammates they need to finish the game. And his receivers - Sammy Watkins in particular - how good is he?!? LOL there was one play where Richard Sherman was abused (for Richard Sherman standards). Happy for Andy Reid - and his team loves him. Speaks volumes for him as a coach.

Half time show was disappointing. Again. I would rather they use some up and coming bands/singers

Me also CG seeing some bands break on live TV actually playing their instruments and singing their own material would be fantastic.

Seeing the Me Too movement gain traction and women demanding their dignity only to have a couple producers and women that should know better demean themselves for the sake of TV ratings is kind of sad

remember when michael jackson would do fantastic moves, then grab his crotch and ruin the whole effect

. . . then madonna did the same thing

. . . of course, our grandparents were scandalized by elvis and other hip-boppers

. . . but in general, subtlety is underappreciated

not only well-said, made me lol!

solarcane

Big Al, DTX good points.
I remember watching Bevis and Butthead, then South Park, and thinking how upset people were with Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce, and how each generation was going to push the envelope a little farther.
You never know how far you can go until you go to far, would apply

I seldom if ever watch halftime shows unless maybe Florida A and M or someone I'm interested in is involved.
As far as people getting really upset, I would suggest the remote control channel changer. I went out and unloaded our kayaks from a day trip a couple minutes into halftime so I didn't see the complete show.

I did cringe thinking granddaughter, and grandson might have watched it.

Just because The Herb is 62, don't mean he ain't got some eyes. Both broads got some junk in Da Trunk. Amen brothers, Amen!!

Wait, what? When were you going to tell me this?

I have no problem with the NFL targeting the 18-35 demographic, just don't think that they should also be targeting the 5-15 demo with soft porn and pole dancing on a the worlds most watched stage. Normalizing pole dancing to a 7 year old girl is not the direction I think we want to head as a society.

I also think that if every Dad's main goal is to keep his daughter from dancing on the pole that the NFL's primary goal should NOT be to make sure that every girl does.

I know that we can't censor things or legislate morality but as my good friend SolarCane likes to say:

"You never know how far you can go until you've gone too far."

IMHO last night went too far. Sexy dancing is one thing, but pole dancing is over the limit on global TV with kids watching.

I look at the halftime show as entertainment....and its not my kind. I enjoyed The Stones, The Who, Prince etc when they played. I am a fan of real music that is played by real musicians and that brand of entertainment is not for me. I get up and eat, go outside....I choose not to watch it. I do not play that kind of music /entertainment in my home, nor would I allow anyone to play it on my stereo system ever. If people like it and want to see it, more power to them in their realm. I am not crazy over most new bans or artists, but I will listen to see what it is about or if there is a message. My son likes rap and hip hop....just nothing there for me to hear or enjoy. However, if other people like it that's their choice...and right!

I see where Jay Z, Beyonce and some other person did not stand for the anthem. While I will agree we have come a long way, and still have a long way to go, insulting many people by that action does not accomplish anything...it makes other hate you, and eventually the racist remarks follow. I read a lot of ugly comments online today in that vein...I have nothing against them as people...but that is not a good choice. I do not listen to their entertainment at all, I just do not care for it.... but many do and like it. That is fine with me cause we are all not going to like the same thing.

I think we should all stand for the flag....we have more freedom here than anywhere ever...and if you do not stand and take off that lid... thats your business...but you must also accept the consequences which in some places may not be very nice...at times very ugly!

I did enjoy seeing the 100 year old vets who fought against the Nazis honored.....really special people...I will always stand in their honor. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. The four veterans are members of the "Greatest Generation" and were among the 16 million Americans whose sacrifice, valor, dedication and determination preserved our freedom and saved our nation and the world.

Thats pretty special to me. I am not a fan of the U S Government; its very corrupt, has way too much power, very bad people on all sides with too much power...but I LOVE America...its not the govt....that flag stands for you and me we make this country of America great we and our people have made, make and will make it the greatest nation in the world......not the government!

solarcane

raize nice one

The Herb

Music today plain six. Nobody sings anymore unless they are featuring a rap artist on their song. Why does every song have to feature a rap artist.
Never have cared for Rap or country but I do like certain songs by both genres.
Can't really fault kids listening to music today because what choice do they have Pop, Rap or Country.

The Herb

That should be sucks, not six but u guys get the meaning.
