Isn't this on a plaque in Nick Sabans office?

CGNC

Herbie I am glad some changes were made because we sure were pitiful last year. However, it is kind of like applauding Brock Berlin for the come back against Florida when he was the reason we were far down in the first half. It was his problem and he fixed it. Mandy saw this as his problem and he is trying to fix it.

Fingers crossed.

Big Facts 100%

HerbieIbis

Soupster,
I wouldn't say The Herb is on the negative side of the ledger, no way Jose!
I just mentioned a few things that needed to be addressed, like the numbers at the CB position, and not having an elite LB or for that matter, DT. The Oh line is what it is and until I see different, A Mess.
I like what Manny has done.
Ed Reed will make a difference.
In the End the only thing, is RESULTS! I look at the schedule and once again, on paper, how we should lose but then there is our problem of playing on the road and losing to scum bucket teams, as I have said on here many times. These are facts, not fiction.
In conclusion, we could be anywhere from 8-4 to 12-0.
If we were lucky to make the ACC Championship game, which will be Clemson, that would be a loss. We need about 5 more difference makers to take them out and that might be a kind number. Bowl win would be nice against a quality opponent. So 9-5 to 13-1.

solarcane

CGNC,
you make a good point.
Manny being his own worst enemy last year and now mopping up the mess he created in the first place is how a lot of us feel.
Where was all this great decision making before 20219 The New Miami launched?

I hope Ed Reed travels side by side with Manny on road games because Manny has a real problem getting the team ready for game day on the road or against a real low quality team just as THe Herb has mentioned quite a few times.

This season alone Nick Saban had two guys enter the portal. Both times he said those players were welcome to return if they wanted to. One returned, one didn't.

So now you’re comparing nick (one of the greatest college coaches of all time) to manny
Lol
Saben can do what he wants.
Manny has shown no balls whatsoever- so until he proves it on the field, I’ll say he’s a pussy when it comes to discipline

He probably didn't mention the fact they will never get on the field but they will get some special conditioning .

"

The Herb

Easy to be on top when u have a top 3 class every year. No doubt Saban is a great college coach but he is an asshole when he needs to be, something that Manny needs a lesson in.
Will add that u don't hear about to many of Nick's boys in the pros. He has many but many were better in college, where ours tend to be better pros.

Go - In other words
Coach Saben has EARNED the right to accept them back or not

How could I have forgotten 20000 leagues under the sea
Lots of fun
I also enjoyed the ride at DW

Posted by: AeroCane | February 06, 2020 at 12:47 PM

The story of how that ride finally closed in the Magic Kingdom is fascinating in and of itself. It literally involved scamming the head of Disney:

http://www.20kride.com/history.html

No seriously, this excerpt from an article by Jim Hill has the real story behind the 20K ride shutdown, and as you're about to find out the consipracy ran far deeper than anyone would have imagined.

...If I had to pick the most extreme example of WDW staffers deliberately faking out the folks back in Burbank - I'd have to say that it was "20,000 Leagues Ovitz the Sea." Or - as this incident is better known in WDW inner circles - "The time we slipped Mike Ovitz a Mickey."

Okay. In order to properly appreciate this story, you have to understand that, while WDW visitors may have loved the Magic Kingdom's "20,000 Leagues Under the Seas" ride, the park's operations staff absolutely HATED that attraction. Why? Because the subs were a maintenance nightmare. Each year, the ops crew would have to pour tens of thousands of dollars (and devote hundreds of hours of back-breaking labor) into the upkeep on that attraction. They'd spend weeks scraping scum out of the bottom of the lagoon, repainting the coral, repairing the fish, etc. And they had just grown tired of dealing with this annual headache.

So - when Disney's CEO Michael Eisner put out the word out in the summer of 1994 that the theme parks really had to start toeing the line, cost-wise - WDW ops staff finally saw their chance. By shutting down this single Fantasyland attraction, they could automatically save the company beaucoup bucks (as well as shine in Team Disney Burbank's eyes for moving so quickly to honor Eisner's wishes), not to mention putting an end to their enormous annual maintenance headache forever.

What these WDW ops guys hadn't counted on was that the public would get so upset when they found out that "20K" had quickly and quietly been closed back in September 1994. Within weeks of the attraction's closure, calls and letters began pouring in to company headquarters in Burbank - insisting that Disney immediately re-open this Fantasyland favorite.

Of course, the news of this uproar didn't sit well with WDW ops staff. Here they had finally found a way to close "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and they intended to keep this Fantasyland ride closed. No matter they had to do.

So they were ready in early 1995 - when then-president of the Walt Disney Company Michael Ovitz came through the Walt Disney World resort on a corporate familiarization trip. Of course, while Ovitz was touring the Magic Kingdom, he brought up all the guests' complaints about "20K" being closed. In response to this, the ops staff insisted that they had only shut down this Fantasyland attraction because the ride was in such awful shape. Not to mention being unsafe.

Ovitz then said "Well, I'd still like to personally take a look at the attraction. Judge for myself whether or not the ride can be repaired and then re-opened." The WDW ops staff said "Well - okay, Mr. Ovitz. But we'll have to do this early tomorrow morning before the other guests enter the Magic Kingdom."

Which is why the following morning at 7 a.m. Mike Ovitz found himself standing in the queue at "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" as a sub that was loudly belching smoke came rumbling up to the dock. The Disney Company President then climbed down the stairs and found a quarter inch of water sloshing around in the bottom of the boat. When Mike pointed this out, the WDW ops staff said "Well, you have to understand that a lot of our subs are over 20 years old, Mr. Ovitz. So many of them have developed small pinhole leaks over time."

The sub then lurched away from the dock and took Ovitz & the ops crew on a somewhat jerky trip around the "20K" ride track, with the attraction's soundtrack barely audible through the ship's crackling loudspeakers. As you might imagine, once the boat pulled up to the dock, Michael quickly climbed out of the mildewed interior. He then turned to WDW's ops staff and told them that they had made the right decision. That - given the shape that "20K" was currently in - the safest and smartest thing to do with this Fantasyland attraction was keep it closed. Permanently.

Now I don't have to tell you smart people that WDW's ops staff had sandbagged Ovitz. That they had deliberately picked out the "20K" sub that was in the worst possible mechanical shape for him to ride in. That they recruited a ride operator that they could trust to give Michael the roughest ride imaginable. That they had even thrown a few buckets of water down into the bottom of the boat to simulate a pinhole leak. All in an effort to leave Ovitz with the impression that WDW's subs were beyond salvaging.

So - if you were one of the poor souls who got sucked in by that fake video shoot at Disney-MGM back in the summer of 1989 - don't feel too bad. After all, at least you weren't on the receiving end of one of Dick Nunis' infamous paint jobs. Or torpedoed like Mike Ovitz was with that "20,000 Leagues" sub scam.

Tony good stuff man.

When Pirates World shut down thanks to Disney World, we would sneak in and skateboard down the abandoned water flumes
I have always had an interest in abandoned theme parks. I used to check out Legends at Disney when they abandoned it do to 9 11 which almost broke Disney World due to the lack of tourists and the cost to keep the park open when it was running at 1/3 attendance for awhile.

Here is a pretty interesting clip about abandoned theme parks you and Aero might enjoy it.

Great piece

TonyCane

Hassan, great piece indeed. This quote stuck out to me, as I've said it myself before:

"Al Golden’s buddy Mark D’Onofrio weighed the ‘Canes down with his bend and break in half defense. Had Golden just fired his buddy as DC he might still be Miami’s head coach. Golden’s offense and special teams play was better than the two guys before or after him. His recruiting was solid and filled with NFL players, too. Imagine Golden’s recruiting and even James Coley’s boring but effective offense with Manny Diaz as the defensive coordinator? Golden might still be at Miami."

I think Golden gets to 9 wins in 2014 with a Manny defense, and to a 10-2 regular season record in 2015.

It’s good to finally hear that the Canes have an OC (Rhett Lashlee), who wants to install an offense that is built around the strength of his players.

Lashlee said. “As you learn your guys, you are going to build it toward what they do best.”

That is what good coaches are supposed to do. Play toward your players strengths, avoid exposing their weaknesses.

There is something going in here, what it isn't exactly clear.

Banda finished best recruiter in the ACC

Banda finished the 2020 recruiting cycle as the 14th best recruiter in the country and tops in the ACC Coastal according to the 247 rankings. Banda finished with an average player rating of 91.45 and 72.25 total points. Banda was credited with six of the Hurricanes signees for 2020. Four signees were four-stars and two, two stars.

The four-star Miami signees Banda is credit with getting to sign a National Letter of Intent with Miami are Williams, running back Don Chaney Jr., safety Jalen Harrell, defensive lineman Elijah Roberts, and three-star safeties Keshawn Washington and Brian Balom.

Banda is the highest-ranked recruiter for Miami since Micheal Barrow in 2014. Barrow also finished 14th in that recruiting cycle when he was credited with 12 signees. The former Hurricanes linebacker went on became the Seattle Seahawks linebackers coach from 2015-17.

Barrow held the same position as well as being the Hurricanes’ special teams coach from 2007-13 under Randy Shannon.

Head coach Manny Diaz gave Banda credit for securing the National Letter of Intent from Williams for the Miami football program. A four-year relationship between Banda and Diaz with Willams was the difference in signing the four-star safety per all three. Diaz discussed Banda’s hard work during an NSD press conference.

“We’ve known Avantae since the summer coming out of eighth grade…This is a four-year relationship. I’ve got to give all the credit to Coach Banda, who never gave up on him, but there was just a feeling that Avantae was a Cane at heart. In recruiting, you just get to know these guys.

There’s something about him that he just fit in here.”

The 2021 Miami football recruiting class is off to a good start. The Hurricanes currently rank ninth nationally, second in the ACC and first in the Coastal Division. The average signee for the 2020 Miami class is 89.97. The 2021 class is 87.69. Banda is credited with getting commits for Miami from two players in the 2021 cycle.

Whether or not you believe in recruiting rankings on the micro level (player evaluations), there is no denying that on the macro level (team rankings) a correlation exists that translates to the ability to compete for championships.

Does every four or five star prospect pan out? Of course not. Do three-star prospects out-perform their recruiting ranking at times? Definitely.

But the bottom line of the star system in the recruiting industry is this: the chances of competing for National Championships dramatically goes up when a program has stacked four-star and five-star talent class after class after class.

It is a numbers game that boils down to probability. The more four and five star prospects a program signs, the more likely they will hit on a higher number of those caliber players, which leads to a more talented roster.

If you believe in the recruiting ranking system at the macro level, then you should be excited about Miami’s 2020 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 13 in the country according to 247Sports.

solarcane

raize,
I think the talent is there and on offense I think having fun and not being chewed out constantly will have a positive effect.

I think Lashlee's offense will make every offensive player better.
Enos had everything so technical and strictly choreographed not everyone could learn it, let alone execute it
He got frustrated and took it out on the players instead of playing to their strengths.

I think Lashlee's run down to the fire hydrant and cut across the middle will make our receivers play relaxed and maybe catch some passed thrown to them.

HerbieIbis

The Herb believes in the star system and they are correct not all pan out but the more u have, so what if a couple don't make it. The problem we have had, is the few 5 star players we have gotten the last several years have crashed and burn. It's been like a 5 star grave yard.
The worm will turn, eventually!
The 2021 class was ranked number one and currently stands at 8 or 9. Couple big fish have run out so far in Franklin and William's. Manny has got to stop this reoccurring theme. Right now we are like Decommit U.
This new offense can bring us back, if all are on board. I expect ED will take care of the pouters and space takers.
Got to keep King on the field and keep him from getting mauled.
Banda has pretty much been a good recruiter more than a coach, now if we could get Rumph in gear we can get rolling. This is one area that has held us back, in not having a couple elite recruiters that and being consistent on the field.
Got to find a good back up qb and have him ready.
Listening to Canesinsight pod cast and Stephan and D Money were saying that the class of 2021 was loaded at both Offensive line and DT. a couple who have already committed elsewhere. We need to reel in at least 2 big fish tackles on each side of the ball, of course more would be better and stack those positions for the foreseeable future. There are some good LB's, and WR's as well.
We can't get them all but get the ones that matter most and stop this mass exodus from the 305.
