- vomiting, shiv'ing, disparagement is all allowed

Let me try to use an analogy. Blogging is like...

It's raining outside right now and the optimist says yeah but it was sunny yesterday or it might be sunny tomorrow. While that is true that fact is that it is raining right now.

It's sunny outside right now and the pessimist says yeah but it was raining yesterday and it might rain again tomorrow. While that is true the fact is that it is sunny outside right now.

There are times when it is raining (bad news), and at times really hard (more bad news). At those times say it is raining all you want.

There are times when it is sunny (good news), and at times really sunny (more good news). Say it is sunny when the sun is shining bright.

Call it like it is (good/bad, sunny/rainy) not like you want it to be or don't want it to be.

While we ALL agree that the season did not go well and certainly did not end well, the fact is that the news coming out of Coral Gables since the season ended has been positive. Enjoy it while you can!

Nobody here can pretend to know how much impact the changes will have on next season but Terrance's approach had been very measured and reasonable in gradually upping his win total with each positive indicator. I think that is a good model for each of us to try to follow.

Oh, and no extra fee. The blog is still FREE!

God knows that we have piled up enough black bile around here to fill all the oceans of the world.

Great news, Go!

RB Edgerrin James joins the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2020! Long overdue!

Edge tweeted, “Started with gold teeth, ended with a gold jacket!

I love it!

roachcane77

Congrats Edgerrin! Well deserved!

BigWindyCane1

I also see Broward County alumni Steve Hutchinson (Coral Springs High School) and Isaac Bruce (DILLARD High School) we’re also inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Well deserved and also long overdue.

But most proud of my Canes alumnus Edgerrin James (Imokalee). I think that means back to back years (Ed Reed) with Canes inducted in the HOF

The pessimist waits for better times, and expects to keep on waiting; the optimist goes to work with the best that is at hand now, and proceeds to create better times.

Calais Campbell chosen NFL Man of the Year
By The Associated Press Associated Press FEBRUARY 1, 2020 — 6:pm

Jacksonville Jaguars edge rusher Calais Campbell has won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

Eli Manning, a former winner who just retired as quarterback of the New York Giants, presented the award at NFL Honors.

The award recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. First established in 1970, the national award was renamed in 1999 after the late Hall of Fame Chicago Bears running back.

In 2009, Campbell formed the CRC Foundation alongside his mother Natea and has engaged in numerous charitable initiatives throughout his 12-year NFL career. The CRC Foundation, named for his late father, Charles, who passed away in 2003, is committed to the enhancement of the community through the teaching of critical life skills to young people. Through sports, creative talents, vocational skills, financial skills and quality health and nutrition, the CRC Foundation is dedicated to developing young people into empowered and self-aware leaders for the future.

The Word From The Herb

Looks like Rob Likens will be the new WR coach. Coming from ASU. Has ties to the air raid has been an OC as well.
Telly Lockett being hired as an analyst. Maybe he can help wit crooting.

I give credit when credit is due. These are GREAT hires! I am not a fan of CMD, but they have really surrounded CMD with some good coaches and advisers. OC Lashlee, OL Coach Justice, COS Ed Reed, and now WR Coach Likens and Lockett as an analyst. I don’t think CMD can fail, if he just empowers them to do their job and stays out of their way.

Herb I heard Lamar Thomas was In the the running.

I think his on camera comments on the brawl, and then the Kentucky fans jumping all over him for shaking Lamar Jackson's hand right after the Louisville vs Kentucky fight might hinder him a bit.

The guy recruits Lamar Jackson while he's wide receiver coach at Louisville, then goes to Kentucky to be receiver coach.

Kentucky and Louisville brawl and Thomas shakes Jackson's hand on camera and gets branded a traitor, football fans can be pure azz at times.

More and more change....credit to the program....it is easy to sit on ones hands and do nothing....got to say I like seeing problems addressed and change where it is obviously needed. I think the biggest issue is the attacking offense..its time.

Was listening to JJ on tv Friday...he kept on talking about attacking offense attacking defense....its sweet music....I have been doing attack football since I started coaching....it is nice to hear JJ talk about it. another thing I was impressed with was him talking about game day management...being ready, not taking delay of game offside motion penalties, using the clock wisely...getting out of bounds when needed, managing the time outs....so impressive. He also said as HC you just do not turn your team over to the OC or DC or ST coach...you have to be involved in all phases of your attacks..you are the head guy!

JJ is a very wise man...glad he is talking to Manhole and I bet it is about the above. ER20 will also be as good influence...and a hard one on the lazy apathetical just here to be here losing aint a big deal guys...the Evan Sheriffs FOS players will not be welcome. You better hate losing every day....you better come here and be ready to fight with fists if needed for PT.....every man must hate to lose....not just accept it as part of life.

I like what I am seeing....got to give people credit for good as we put blame on them for the bad. Keep working at it change is good!

solarcane

I can't remember ASU scoring any points? Were they good receivers?

VA Cane

I don’t think CMD can fail, if he just empowers them to do their job and stays out of their way.

Well put BWC He needs to let them use their talent to coach....and still know what is going on...open to new and different ideas....try different approaches....and get input....got to like what you see.

I have no problem addressing the bad, and I give credit to the program...ACTION not words!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!

solarcane

I'm confused,
We are gonna hire a wide receivers coach from a team that scores less a game than the 2019 Miami Hurricanes?

Points/G: 24.8 (96th of 130)

BigWindyCane1

I think Lashlee can use an experienced coach with OC experience at a major FBS program. That is an element that the program lacked last season. The Canes also have Lockett who will help recruiting, but will also provide more expertise and winning experience in the coaches room.

Go Canes!!

Another great, great hire for Manny. He’s slaying it right now. Very impressed.

Thank U Soupster. I am encouraged with what I am seeing coming out of Coral Gables this off-season. Much Less False Bravado and more measured smart moves in a stealth like Fashion and to borrow a Term From The Soupster I like It I like It A Lot. I definitely have us going in the 8-5 trending up towards 9-4. Oh BTW looks like The Home Game against University of Alabama-Birmingham that was scheduled for Saturday September 19th will be moved to Thursday Night September 17th. Go Canes!

The Herb

ASU didn't have an explosive offense. Qb was a true freshman but he will be good. Little erratic as a passer. I think I his last name was Daniels. Likens has coached WR'S before under Dykes.

solarcane

thanks Herb, I didnt know anything about ASU except they barely beat the worst FSU team in twenty years.

BigWindyCane1

TSully has the Canes trending up from his original prediction of 6-6, to 9-4? “

I like it and I like it a lot!”

Yes Sir SolarCane.

Terrance M Sullivan

Yes Sir BigWindy!

The Herb

Solar Lamar was looked at but I think Diaz wanted someone who is spread oriented or should I say Lashlee wanted. He got the people he wanted
It's for sure now Manny has plenty of sharks floating all around him now. If he was canned tomorrow, we now have 2 to 3 ex coaches on staff, who could take over as interim if he gets canned.
I'm sure he wanted to can Enos sooner but had no one with coordinator experience on staff.

solarcane

Ok Herb I get you.
If Lashlee picked Likens I'm sure he knows what the dude is all about.

I am good with everything I see so far.
If Lashlee and King can beat our D pass rush with our current offensive line, and Likens teaches the receivers to catch the ball, we should be competitive in the ACC and put some teams away.

Thank U Soupster.

No need to thank me. I need to thank U!

Anyone here who is "reasonable" deserves credit.

BigWindyCane1

Interesting post I saw after someone posted about 22 year-old Lamar Jackson, who was a three star QB recruit.

From lightly recruited to the Super Bowl:

Three-star recruits— Mahomes, Kittle, Sherman and Clark, Mostert, Damian Williams

Two-star recruits—Kelce, Garoppolo, Staley, Sanders

Zero-Star recruits— Hill, Juszczyk

The leading skill players on both teams are all represented on this list

BigWindyCane1

Now that the Canes are going more to the spread, I wonder how much of an impact that will make in identifying recruiting targets?

I am sure more recruits will be excited, but will the Canes target and value more skill-position recruits who have track speed and elusiveness, and shy away from some of the pro style athletes that the Canes have typically focused on?

The start seems to be with D’Eriq King, who will bring an athletic dimension to the QB position and to the whole entire offense, and the Canes have never had a QB like him before. The new WR recruit, Smith from San Diego seems like more of a spread receiver.

I am anxious to see how Lashlee implements his offense with the current players, and recruits new players

86Cane

and Likens teaches the receivers to catch the ball, we should be competitive in the ACC and put some teams away.

Wait a minute there bucko, now you want the receivers to actually "catch the ball"?

That's asking quite a lot don't U think?

HerbieIbis

A majority of these kids have played in some Kind of spread offense.
We need the WR'S taught the art of separation. We also need to find a WR in the portal (Black) that is tall. Except for Wiggins, everyone is 6'1 or shorter.
Our line will be good enough in this offense, not great or anything but if King has to hold the ball more than 3 seconds he'll be running for his life saying to himself "what have I gotten myself into".
Switching the offense up it will take time for all to get a grasp for it, how much time, is a big ? Mark. Hopefully before the season starts. King should be able to mask any early short comings.
Some kids are late bloomers and some grow into their bodies late. The NFL is loaded with those type players from smaller schools, who were over looked by big schools.
Just like there is a graveyard of former 5 star players from college that didn't make it in the pros or great college players or couldn't hack it in the NFL.

Here is the interesting article about star ratings for the players on Super Bowl rosters when they were recruits, written by Rivals (who makes a living off of the star rating business).

you all watching the canes bb? just went up 40-39 over pitt w/o lykes & mcgusty able to play
. . . and with having too many turnovers

another 13 minutes or so in the game

BigWindyCane1

Alpine,

Just turned on the Men’s basketball game. The Canes are within striking distance, but turnovers have been our Achilles heel all season. Lack of assists and ball movement have also been an issue.

BigWindyCane1

Pitt winning, 51-49 with 4:25 left.

BigWindyCane1

The Canes are hanging tough, tied @ 51, with 3:10 left in the game. This could come down to the final possessions

alpine

51-51 w/ less than 3 minutes

windy - fun game, or?
but both the mens & womens canes get caught for an average of 7 travels per game, drives me up a wall

now on to the womens bb

BigWindyCane1

Terrible shot selection by VASILJEVIC at the end, but otherwise, a solid effort. The freshmen played well, but they have to create individual offense rather than ball movement. Tough loss
