After we proved beyond a reasonable doubt that scoring is easy in our last blog feature, we want to be fair and balanced, and therefore we have to present the opposite side of the argument.
For Miami, and for many obvious reasons, scoring was really hard last season.
NativeCane knows that scoring should be easy. But UM makes it really hard.
The Hurricanes averaged a paltry 25.7 points in 2019. If you take out the 63 points they scored against Bethune Cookman it goes down to 22.5 PPG during the season. That is simply not going to get it done in today's college football.
Shirely, I don't have to remind you that Miami used three weeks of "practice" to generate a whopping ZERO points in their bowl game against long time college football powerhouse La Tech. You're very welcome.
RaizeCane knows scoring should be easy. But Miami makes it really hard.
The reasons are many and have been re-hashed here for endless hours over the last few months. There is no need to repeat them, but we will.
It starts with the QB position. A lack of leadership and poor execution will do that every time. The porous offensive line made it worse. It was like the human turnstile Matt Pipho was playing all positions all the time.
Play calling was horrendous. To say it was boring and unimaginative would be exceedingly kind. The scheme was called into question. You can only bang your head on the same wall so many times before your brain goes numb.
KYCane knows that scoring should be easy. But UM makes scoring really hard.
In fact, the Hurricanes scored over 30 points only twice in games that mattered. They scored 35 points in a loss to Virginia Tech and 52 points in a win over Louisville. Not very impressive and not very consistent.
Miami was ranked 129th in third down conversions, 120th in rushing offense, 90th in points scored, and 52nd in passing offense. Not very good at all.
Shirley, this has to improve in 2020.
Terrance knows that scoring is always super easy.
But the Hurricanes make it really, really hard.
Haha Epic Times!

Apart from Mrs. 86 of course, but other than that, yeah #2 for sure. Too many good times and happy memories to count!

The number of times we went on the road and "stole their women" (figuratively, not literally) was just of epic proportions. I have another dozen photos at least to prove it was a common occurence.

Scoring is hard;
"Kameron McGusty arrived slightly ahead of Lykes as the Hurricanes' leading scorer (15.4) but finshed with two points on 1-for-9 shooting."

"On special teams, behind the excellent play of Lou Hedley, UM was 30th in net punting (40.8) compared to 117th in 2018 (34.4). Behind K.J. Osborn’s No. 3 national ranking for punt returns (15.9 yards a return), UM was 10th overall this season (14.2), compared with third in 2018 (19.8)."

Read about, that could be a possibility this morning, about Zo not coming.
Also read read where, supposedly Manny & Blake had an about face on the idea. High dollar donors are pissed.
U know shyt runs down hill and The Herb sees it piling up around Mano. Probably didn't want Zo's nostrils pressed against his neck.
Same old thing.
Get dee fixed the offense sucked.
Get the Oh fixed the dee sucked, although that was a while ago.
Front office, can't their stuff together.
I guess one out of three ain't bad, when u suk.

Given Highsmith’s NFL standing, why would he come to Miami for what is essentially an assistant coach position with no on field or personnel responsibilities? The Chief of Football Operations as it exists in several college programs is entirely that. It’s subservient to the HC.
To bring in Zo, Miami has to create a position with responsibilities that do not presently exist in CFB. Why would Manny cede his authority to Zo? What college coach would?
Realistically, the only way Zo should come would be as AD?
Posted by: TonyCane | January 16, 2020 at 05:10 PM
Who to believe but Mano supposedly axed the deal.
He has made his bed. He thinks the few changes he made, with adding a kicker, an OC and getting the discipline changed is going to make a world of difference. He has rolled the dice. Either he sinks or swims. The Herb says he better find a QB and it needs to be King or bust. Sitting on 8 or 9 ships and better hit da motha load.
Don't see no high schoolers who have us on the radar, who could provide immediate help, unless they are hiding under da rocks. Portal better be sweet. 4 cb's with a rookie in Clarke, is it at the present. We going spaaared in the spring, whose going to be defending the Wr's? I guess the safeties will be pulling double duty.
Should never be in this situation.
Hope he don't think anybody on this current roster, is the answer at QB.
William's should be shown the doe and the mental midget either goes to Wr or he too can catch the bus.
Manny needed to cut bait with a few more of those second rate crofters we have but hung onto to those boat anchors that will drag him down.
Posted by: TheWordFromTheHerb | January 16, 2020 at 05:19 PM
Manny talks that culture BS all the time AND yet the dude sid nothing this year to change it. Players getting a way with what they want, not being held accountable. That's on his slack no discipline azz. Now u want to get tough, will see. This crap on the offensive side was going on. Before Mano took over. I guess it was sort of a Heartbreak Ridge moment. The inmates run the asylum. Gunny Highway showed the what was what!

Concise and correct, TC. Well written; well done!
The whole "Zo to the U" thing is ridiculous! There is no plausible way to create an impactful position for him without undermining either the head coach or the AD. And, given that BOTH of their jobs may be at risk in 2020, neither of them will accept any immediate loss of authority or responsibility. Hiring Zo might appease a few trustees and donors. And, perhaps, hiring Zo would "toss a bone" to the hungry fan base. But his (newly created) position - to be acceptable to both CMD and AD BJ - would mainly be symbolic. So, who needs him?

I agree 💯❗️The pressure is on for CMD and BJ. They won’t be able to rinse and repeat again. They either show Remarkable improvement next season in actual win-loss record, or they will not finish the season.
If CMD doesn’t start strong and finish strong with this weak ACC Coastal schedule, Lashlee will be the interim HC before the end of the season.
Either way, the misery will end son—one way or another

It would be better if those 3 came in the weekend before signing day but I got to thinking, when's the last time that weekend, has brought us any good fortune?
I don't care what Mano has to do just get King to come here. We just need one dam break.

Maybe lashee told him to take a hike
You’re the 106th ranked WR and you’re gonna decommitt
I’d withdraw his scholarship and say sayanora
Now let’s get a 4 star who will practice and play hard!
Coach L can go take a hike as well! I’m over him (been for 2 or so years now) - however, Blake would eff up the new hire anyway

Sorry Al
I don’t follow basketball much and especially not women’s BB - that’s just me as there is only so much time and I’m definitely not gonna waste it watching bad Miami men’s BB nor women’s at all
Since the end of the Coker era, I’ve not lived and died by our bad and sometimes embarrassing football team either. And while I’m on the topic, dimare should of been brought on about 3 to 5 years earlier as Morris was done way before he sucked money from us and stayed!
Problem is we have not had a strong or good AD since Jankovich
Posted by: AeroCane | January 17, 2020 at 10:30 AM
Well the 2021 class is picking right up where the 2020 left off, with another decommit, although The Herb thought offering Eaford could of came much later or not at all.
I guess we'll see if we can match this years total of 19.
