After we proved beyond a reasonable doubt that scoring is easy in our last blog feature, we want to be fair and balanced, and therefore we have to present the opposite side of the argument.
For Miami, and for many obvious reasons, scoring was really hard last season.
NativeCane knows that scoring should be easy. But UM makes it really hard.
The Hurricanes averaged a paltry 25.7 points in 2019. If you take out the 63 points they scored against Bethune Cookman it goes down to 22.5 PPG during the season. That is simply not going to get it done in today's college football.
Shirely, I don't have to remind you that Miami used three weeks of "practice" to generate a whopping ZERO points in their bowl game against long time college football powerhouse La Tech. You're very welcome.
RaizeCane knows scoring should be easy. But Miami makes it really hard.
The reasons are many and have been re-hashed here for endless hours over the last few months. There is no need to repeat them, but we will.
It starts with the QB position. A lack of leadership and poor execution will do that every time. The porous offensive line made it worse. It was like the human turnstile Matt Pipho was playing all positions all the time.
Play calling was horrendous. To say it was boring and unimaginative would be exceedingly kind. The scheme was called into question. You can only bang your head on the same wall so many times before your brain goes numb.
KYCane knows that scoring should be easy. But UM makes scoring really hard.
In fact, the Hurricanes scored over 30 points only twice in games that mattered. They scored 35 points in a loss to Virginia Tech and 52 points in a win over Louisville. Not very impressive and not very consistent.
Miami was ranked 129th in third down conversions, 120th in rushing offense, 90th in points scored, and 52nd in passing offense. Not very good at all.
Shirley, this has to improve in 2020.
Terrance knows that scoring is always super easy.
But the Hurricanes make it really, really hard.
Dang...

If King come that leaves us with 6 scholarship QBs. At worst, we lose two - Jarren and Perry. Jarren Williams has three years of eligibility left, N'Kosi has two. I think Tate is likely to stay and try to beat out King.
Posted by: TonyCane | January 18, 2020 at 07:05 PM
Don't know if true, but DA King supposedly cancelled his visit to Mary Land.
This will make The Herb very happy. Mentioned the dude before he jumped in the portal.
No matter what the OH will be better BUT we need some Prime A-1 beef up front. This offense will automatically help the helpless out but we need talent, not projects. Nelson is a project who by no fault of his own had to play. He did the best he could. Ain't to many 285 pounders starting at tackle. Most in the 310 and above range.
Now let Penn State take Stubbs off our hands and find someone who can teach route running 101. These Db's have been like flex seal on our WR'S long enough.

Looks like JW can’t transfer to Kentucky anymore. Joey Gatewood, the four star recruit from Bertram Trail in Jacksonville is headed there.
I recall him in high school, and Gatewood was pretty good QB with great tools. For some reason, Bartram Trail rotated QBs, but they made it to the state championship but lost to Venice.
JW has no chance at beating Gatewood out. JW is running out of time if he wants to transfer and participate in Spring football somewhere else

That is some of the weakest sauce I have ever read.
Not even going to go into critiquing because it is not worth the time or effort. But it reveals even MORE reason why the mentality and attitude of UM players needs to change 180 degrees.
That is all.
Posted by: 58 Straight | January 19, 2020 at 02:20 AM
That is all.
I read this "article" by a former UM player/FLOP weakling. Agreed 58, this guy has no clue what life is all about. I worked, played football and graduated on time in 1976-77 to 79-80...and agree; this is what is wrong with UM players. This guy has a bad attitude...and he never could play a lick. Why would you recruit such a loser?
This is the "leadership" of the future....

OK LOL, never mind I read that "article" - From a kid who never had to:
1) raise a kid/family
2) have real bills
3) thinks he is the smartest kid in the room
4) could never beat out Malik Rosier
So he had to get up at 5:00 a.m. boo hoo - not a bad gig for free school. The best part - is he thnks he will be a success - well maybe if you wash that "L" off your forehead because it doesn't go over well in interviews

Blurb from the Tampa Bay Times regarding Shaquille Quarterman's and Michael Pinckney's play at the East West Shrine game
Had the Hurricanes had a better season, these guys may have had a bigger profile. But Quarterman and Pinckney were at a different level Saturday and should have gotten an invite to a better all-star game.

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end ... because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing ... this shadow. Even darkness must pass."

Miami Wide Receiver Coach Taylor Stubblefield to Penn State.
Good for him....when you seen them pass alot....then again...when you seen us just pass decently? we are allergic to the proper way to block and execute a simple forward pass...

I am really loving what I am seeing as far as the offensive side of the ball is concerned. A great OC hire, a great OL coach hire and a great, proven QB all in the span of a month! It’s lining up perfectly.
Two more things would put a cherry on top of the offensive changes: 1-2 OL grad transfers and CMD stays out of the way.
Those things happen and we will have a prolific offense.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 19, 2020 at 12:44 PM
In 2018, D’Eriq King had 2982 yards passing on 63% completions with 36 TDs, 6 INTs, and just 14 sacks, to go along with 111 carries for 674 yards and 14 TDs!
The Canes haven’t had a QB that productive. The skill position players should be salivating. That 12% bus that Soup cranked up is starting to rev its engines

Hell to DA YES. Thank Jesus!!
2 of the things The Herb wished for, The SPAaaaRed and King.
Is worm finally turning?
Now, let's get a couple protectors or else the King will be running for his life.
Let Stubbs head off to pedifile U.
Get a couple CB'S.
Another WR and maybe we get this mess heading in the right direction.
No use wishing anymore for Patke or The no recruiting Rumph to be gone, it just ain't happening. Can't get everything u want.
If Baker goes, Manny just needs to be his own coordinator and bring in a STC.
Posted by: TheHerb | January 19, 2020 at 01:01 PM
If King puts up stats like he did in 2018, he will be ACC offensive player of the year (no disrespect to Etienne or LAWRENCE) , and the Canes will have a legitimate shot to win the ACC.
No one in the ACC puts up stats like that

Perhaps it’s me being pessimistic, but until King actually signs I think he goes to LSU.
Posted by: TonyCane | January 19, 2020 at 03:33 PM
In football...in life...I never believe it til its so. King may be a nice addition....numbers look good. Remember he played in the American Athletic Conference...not sure how good it is...but we are in ACC maybe not sure how good it is either.
Nice new OC and OL coach....but how much is there to work with...OL is terrible....will be terrible and there is no saviors in the new class to make it top notch. Backs and WRs are...well average. Perry and Williams cannot run this new attack....and with Perrys scatterbrain non focused porn attitude...and Williams cry baby cry pout attitude....they do not work for me...never have. Martell has run it....but could not run it at OSU...top team...and could not start. All that shake crap in the bowl....not impressed at all.
Look what is on the 2020 roster...Carson Proctor Ryan Rizk....who in the hell are they? Never played. Matocha...did he take a snap.....and the Van Dyke kid.....freshman unproven...average #s.....so a horrible line no QBs to speak of....coming off a losing season with new coaches and system...I do not expect much...if any real improvement against any good team...Someone on another sight...said Canes fan since 2012...things looking up....yea right on...
Remember when you are knocked out cold...laying on you back...you are looking up too...lets not get too excited or get a bunch of high hopes...I will wait and see....remember the AD is BJ and the HC is Manhole.....neither of whom I am impressed with or would call a winner....neither has insight knows the game or their job...IJS
Posted by: VA Cane | January 19, 2020 at 03:37 PM
TC if he is smart and surveys the landscape....they lose Pass Coordinator QB lots of skill...but are NCs...and will continue the attack they won with...and he knows spread system...or come to a team that was 6-7...no OL and no prospect of being any better...new coaches...no real skill guys....not hard to figure this one out to me either...
