one last thing regarding the SHAQ-attack:
- if you are playing MLB every game for 4 years, then:
1- you are putting in LOTS of work to keep your body in excellent shape to handle the constant abuse it's taking . . . start lounging around and taking it easy and you'll be in the medical tent before you can say, "loser"
2- no matter how well you take care of your body, as an MLB, you are going to be playing thru some big time hurt
- to me, that kind of work ethic and toughness is a large part of leadership
. . . so i don't mind being the apologist for the apologists
- and personally, i liked having shaq on my team; a lot
- imo, if richt and manny-enos could have gotten an offense going, then, together with the canes brutal D, which shaq anchored, we would have been easy coastal winners these last few years (see notre dame wipe-out a few years ago)

Blog posts about STARS MATTER.
Posted by: nemo2020 | January 27, 2020 at 09:20 AM
As I stated before we need to be in the mid 50's with 4 star or better to be consistently a playa in the top 10.
You need 7 or 8 special players to be in the conversation with the elite teams.
Yes there are teams from non power 5 conferences that have been playing at a high level with way less talent but generally when they play against a power house they get beat.
The ACC is not a power house conference, no different than CUSA. The major difference is we have Clemson. At the rate they are recruiting, they will continue to run roughshod through this conference into the foreseeable future.
We have to recruit better. We need to bring in at least 14 four star or better players each cycle. We have been nickel and diming to much.
Being a consistent winner has been eluding us for years and has hindered our ability to recruit our own backyard. The roaches scatter when the lights come on.
Us having one failed coach after another doesn't help stability either.
We aren't that far off but we are no closer to where we need to be either.
Two things stick out to me:
One, we can't consistently win on the road and two we keep losing to less talented teams.
Those 2 trends have to stop.
We are finally moving into the 21 century going to the spread, about 5 years to late but finally. This will help the offense, no doubt! Have to recruit the right qb's to run it. When King leaves, who do we have? To get to the top that question has to be answered.
Our defense is good. Great, not yet. Playing in the ACC makes our defense some times look better than it is. The question is how would we look if we played in the SEC West, with a schedule of Auburn, LSU, Bama and rising Tex. A&M? Manny has this year to figure this mess out. At least he took some steps in the right direction but needs to stop the bleeding in recruiting with all these decomits, we have experienced the last 3 to 4 years. We would be loaded with talent. Lost 5 four star WR's in this class alone. Already have 9 for this 2021 class. Then have to turn around and rerecruit them.

Herb,
This would be my guess
Van Dyke redshirts but plays his max snaps in clean up time
Lashlee develops relationship with Van Dyke and grooms him to move into starter next year.
Mean time a quality high school spread qb commits while Van Dyke is starting and learns the system without being forced into games as a freshman.
I realize this is the way it would unfold on most teams, I just hope Lashlee is the real deal and hangs around.jmo

Blob is useless unless you're selling subscriptions to a paysite to entertain recruitiniks with projections they have to pay to read in the off season.
Here's actual useful information about 'talent' levels of the football team over the same span instead of this drivel (of course this is free and you don't have to use a credit card to pretend you're informed by looking it up so that puts a damper on the paysite's shine):

Solar,
I may be wrong but I don't know if TVD can run this type offense
He would be okay as a passer but running and being quick enough with his feet, I'd have to see it to believe it.

Not sure about 7-8 special players but that would certainly help. The ONE special player we have needed the most but have not found plays one position: QB.
Posted by: 86Cane | January 27, 2020 at 02:14 PM
Herb,
I dunno either,I'm hoping Van Dyke is a gunslinger and gets the ball out pronto.
Posted by: solarcane | January 27, 2020 at 03:23 PM
We could have 100% blue chip recruits and it won’t matter because our head coach sucks and the culture around program is tainted in mediocrity.
My prediction is 3 uninspiring games to start the season and a pummeling at Michigan State is what finally sends Manny packing

That's a nice dose of optimism right there. Did you fail to read the 12-0 prediction for 2020?
I am thinking about changing my weekly game score from 34-17 in 2019 to 34-17 in 2020. What do you guys think?
Posted by: 86Cane | January 27, 2020 at 04:34 PM
Soupster Go For It. I probably personally would go for 34-24 Every Game.

We will get run on a little bit next year, not real bad but our tackles need to step up.
Posted by: Herbieibis | January 27, 2020 at 05:42 PM
I like 34-17. Let's roll with it!
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 27, 2020 at 06:26 PM
LB Ja’Corey Hammett from Miami Northwestern committed during junior day. He is listed at 6'2", 210 lbs, and he has a frame that can pack on some additional weight. Hammett has height, and he is a pretty good player. That gives us three from MNW in 2021.
I hope we can get WR Romello Brinson back in the fold. I watched him over the last two years, and Brinson is a real player, and he always seem to make the big plays when MNW needed them.
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 27, 2020 at 06:32 PM
I think we had like 118 points after three games last season.
With the second coming of David Klingler and no Florida we should be good for at least 150 points after three games with ease.
That will pad up the scores a little and should keep us in the 34 point Soupbone bracket all the way unless of course Manny pulls some shyt nobody in college football has ever witnessed.

Henceforth...it shall be written that the Miami Hurricanes football team shall score exactly 34 points in each game in 2020, not less or more, but always 34 points as prescribed by 86Cane and approved by SolarCane on this day 27th of January in the year of our Lord 2020.
All in favor respond by saying: "Lashlee will set us free".
All opposed respond by saying: "Enos is ghost".
Let the voting commence and continue until the 31st of January. All who wish to be heard please come forward at this time.

Go for it Soup!
You got a qb that was responsible for 50 tds in ONE season...then again you have a bunch of receivers that probably dropped 20.
You got this.

Very excited about Lashlee! I just love the interest he has locally with the coaches and recruits, and I love the excitement he brings nationally bringing in King and others. I would be very surprised if King doesn’t generate at least 40 TDS this season. By the time the Canes roll into East Lansing, this offense should be humming at 34+ points a game. WRs, RBs and TEs will get very excited. We will see a new HARLEY, Payton, Pope, WIGGINS and others. Even the RBs will put up big numbers. This is an offense that gets me pumped. If Lashlee and King can’t get it done, the Canes are a lost cause
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | January 27, 2020 at 11:04 PM
Big Windy I agree with every thing you say. Plus King is going to turn more then a few failed red zone attempt's into a red zone touchdowns. Once these wide receivers realize what they have to work with in King they will work a lot harder, have better concentration knowing they will get the balls coming their way when they catch it.
We going to score this year.

Raize...let me clarify my bet.
If the Canes score 34 OR MORE points in a game I win that week $1. If they score 33 OR LESS, Roach wins the bet that week $1.

Posted by: UMike | January 28, 2020 at 09:29 AM
The key to the scoring is King can run the ball in from the red zone
Williams and the kickers cost us a lot of points.
Harry I think you are right, King would have won some games here last year even with Enos.
Posted by: solarcane | January 28, 2020 at 10:27 AM
Soup.
you will have a 3 dollar cushion after the first three games.
Somewhere in the season we may score 34 points and still lose the game and you are still gold.
On another thought
I think we will average over 34 points for the season because Manny is going to run the scores up as high as possible on the cup cakes. jmo

From a previous blog article: Scoring Is Hard
The Hurricanes averaged a paltry 25.7 points in 2019. If you take out the 63 points they scored against Bethune Cookman it goes down to 22.5 PPG during the season. That is simply not going to get it done in today's college football.
Shirley, I don't have to remind you that Miami used three weeks of "practice" to generate a whopping ZERO points in their bowl game against long time college football powerhouse La Tech. You're very welcome.
Posted by: 86Cane | January 28, 2020 at 11:42 AM
There are a lot of whopping things that went wrong, with that offense, that were offensive!

Before lunch I heard Deion Sanders being interviewed on one of the national sports talk radio shows. Of course, the former FSU and NFL star is in town for the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Interestingly, he mentioned that his youngest son [Shedeur Sanders] is a star quarterback in high school; and that he and his son are visiting the U on Saturday. So, I did a little research.
The race to land the 2021 pro-style quarterback is heating up on the recruiting trail. Entering his senior season, the 6-foot-2, 180 pound pro-style quarterback out of Cedar Hill, Texas already holds offers from schools like Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, and of course, FSU.
Through his first three seasons, Sanders racked up 8,925 passing yards and 123 touchdown passes in 41 games. At this rate, he’ll easily pass Texas icons like Kyler Murray and Case McCoy on Texas’ career passing yards list. Sanders already ranks 11th in Texas high school football history in career touchdown passes, and if he keeps his 41 touchdown-per-season pace, he’ll finish with the fourth-most in state history.
He says that Alabama is his "dream school". But Shedeur's older brother, cornerback Shilo Sanders, signed with South Carolina. And FSU is clearly on his mind. “FSU, my dad has been [t]here before, it just feels real good — but — on the other hand, I’m going to college and I’m going to make my own decision," Sanders told 247Sports. "I’m not going to go to a college based off my dad’s decision and what he did [t]here. I’m not saying I’m going to fully commit [t]here. It’s still a big decision.”
Currently, he has a three star rating on Rivals and a four star rating on ESPN. Neither site lists the U as one of his "interest schools".
Probably, Deion and his son are merely making an informal and unofficial visit to the U this weekend. Moreover, it is unlikely that Shedeur Sanders would commit to UM over FSU, ALA, or South Carolina. Moreover, UM isn't in the market these days for "pro style" quaterbacks. But who knows? Stranger things have happened, I guess.
P.S. Prime Time was definitely "open" to the U. Inrerestingly, he seemed a little down on FSU for not hiring him as head coach after Coach Taggart was fired. He stongly stated his intention to become a head coach at a major university as soon as next year.

With what seems like every quarterback that was born in Texas, played high school football in Texas played college quarterback in Texas average around 40 or 50 tds a season from Pop Warner to the NFL
I`m wondering how many elite corner backs and safeties come out of Texas high schools and colleges?
