Happy Tuesday peeps!

Go Canes!!

I know it's not an exact science but let this sink in for a minute.

If the Miami Hurricanes had scored exactly 34 points in each game over the last four season and our record would be...wait for it....

36 wins
2 losses
1 tie

One of the losses is the 5 INT game against VT last season. The other is Clemson in the ACCCG in 2017.

That is a mind boggling stat.

There IT is right there.

solarcane

Come on Soup,
We play in that brutal ACC Coastal division and play out of conference games against teams like Central Michigan how on earth could a team put up 34 points a game against that kind of competition?

solarcane

Ate a half bag of those little Pepperoni slices you buy to sprinkle on store bought pizza.
Didnt bother to wipe my hands off, then typed a bit to some internet friends.

Came back to find the cat has typed a couple pages of Helter Skelter stuff while licking the keyboard clean.
Checking now to see how much stuff he ordered from Amazon.

You do need dynamic players...you need a couple good DL, LBs, DBs...you need a good kicker and punter, you need a couple good OL WR...a back and a QB. You got to have that QB....got to. Look back at the 2002-2002 teams...many good players in the key spots...and leaders...primary leaders were ER20 KD11. The roster is full of strong players. That team would beat Bama LSU clemson OSU....they had the greatest talent ever put into a team..

I looked at the roster now....other than the few guys i know who are good....who the hell are the rest of these guys? Not strong roster...not that much talent....not players just bodies to fill a scholarship....not much more than that.
Along with strong roster you need a really strong HC! HS JJ DE BJ...strong! Clappy Onion AlPa poor excuses for HC....CMR...a burned out second tier guy good but thats all. Now Manhole....poor excuse for HC. Cannot win with that roster and coaches.

As for QB...we have not had a really outstanding QB since KD11....bottom line they were not good QBS. Now I know some of you loved Morris and Kaaya...and they were the best we have had since then...but they were average or slightly better. They were not leaders and they did not have really good skills....and they really had no talent around them that helped make them better. They had to carry the load and with lack of other good players...they could not do it all.

I am not from the what if school....I do not think in that vein. I am a coach and I deal in facts...only way in this game. What if we had not lost a few games in 14 years? Well we would have won all 14 titles instead of 11...so what. we lost we got beat as a team and losing fuels winning...you hate to lose..I DO!

While the what if fact makes one feel good, its just an excuse that reads like "if we only had done a little more we would be on top." No we would not. This program has been really meek mild average and apathetical since 2003 it is a bad program....the BOT the AD the coaches and staff the players simply do not care about winning....its a check a job a way to get a college degree and if you lose thats ok its just a game.

Stats are nice for some people as are hopes wishes and dreams that can be drawn from and wrapped around said stats. I do not care about that fantasy, I want to deal with now and what has to be done to WIN. I like the Lashley hire, I like bringing in King. ON paper it looks like a better plan than the garbage we have seen since 2003.You have the worse O line in the nation, you have average guys in the skill positions, and it all is new, and has to be taught and learned quickly. The D will be ok....some holes. Kicking should be better, but STs still a ?!

Above all the "I do not care attitude" still reeks in the program top to bottom....these people BOT to players want winning to come ez...like falling off a log! They do not want to work hard, they do not care, it is way down on the priority list....and losing is ok...part of life....dont let it bother you its just a game!

Each spring allows a chance to change the past...by Working Hard changing the attitude...I could care less about what if we had done this or that...I want to know what are you going to do to do starting today to get started back to decency? how hard are you going to work? Get in shape get your head straight hate losing and find ways to win....For me, If I see a new attitude, a lot more effort and hustle, a desire to win a hate to lose attitude....resulting in 1 or 2 more wins and playing hard so that we are in every game with a chance to win...I will consider that progress...not turn around..progress.

JJ coaching up Diaz, a good sign

▪ When Johnson watched Miami Hurricanes football games this year, he noticed a couple areas where he thought Manny Diaz could do something different.

But then JJ wondered this: Should he call Diaz and tell him? After all, they had developed a good relationship last offseason, with Diaz taking his assistants to Johnson’s home in the Keys in the spring, and Johnson visiting practice last August.

Johnson, who admits he was “a little surprised” by Miami’s 6-7 season, decided to make a couple of those phone calls to Diaz - on topics that will remain between himself and Diaz - and he’s glad he did.

“There were a couple things I thought he could have done had he been a head coach longer,” Johnson said Tuesday during a Fox Sports media availability in advance of Sunday’s Super Bowl 56 coverage on the network, where Johnson will be in his usual chair on the pregame studio show from Hard Rock Stadium.

“I was hesitant a little bit about making the phone call a time or two. But he was very, very good about it. I think he will be fine. I’m still confident he can get it done. He’s a hard worker, he’s confident, he’s smart. The whole key is recruiting some good players. You look at the top dozen schools in college football, their talent is so much better than the rest of them. There is a world of difference. My wife Rhonda could win 10 games at those dozen schools. It’s not the qualify of the coaching, it’s the qualify of the recruiting.”

▪ Former Dolphins coach and ex-UM assistant coach Dave Wannstedt said UM got the “steal of the transfer portal” in quarterback D’Eriq King, and Johnson said Diaz’s move to an up-tempo spread offense shows a willingness to adapt.

“I talked to [Chiefs coach] Andy Reid about it this morning,” Johnson said of the spread offense. “The thing I admire about Andy is you have been able to adapt year after year according to the talent you have on your team. That’s what the spread is, that’s college offenses [now]. You’ve got to be able to adapt.”

Wannstedt said of King: “I was doing a show on the Big Ten Network and they announced this quarterback King from Houston was going to take his redshirt year and get better and learn the offense more and come back next year.

“I said, ‘Let me tell you something - and I was on air saying this - ‘this kid is going to be at Oklahoma [in 2020]. He is going to be taking Jalen Hurts’ place. He ain’t coming back to Houston. He’s just saving another year.’

“That’s what happened but he ended up at the U. Wow. That’s exciting. They got the defense, they can run the ball. I was at their practice last spring. I’m a big Manny Diaz fan.”

BigWindyCane1

Jimmy Johnson likes CMD?

Well, I am not convinced, but I do respect JJ, so I will have to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. Listening to criticism, changing and adapting are all good signs. Out of respect for one of the greatest football coaches of all time, I will have to just wait and see. I hope JJ is right. This season was very very disappointing.

BigWindyCane1

I think Jalen Rivers needs to start or see substantial playing time next season.

In addition, Donaldson needs to lose some weight and be placed on a strict diet or face suspensions. It is for his own good.

With those changes and steady improvement among the other OLs, the Canes should see some improvements along the offensive line.

VA Cane

While the TO chain and the rings might have been fun for some, I would agree with Soup and Nemo....lose the jewelry and dancing around.

As a coach, I should not have to have bling on the sideline to con you into doing your job. You HAVE to do your job to play for me...you should want to do your job. Rewards are great...in football....WINNING is the greatest reward! WINNING together with your teammates is the greatest feeling in the world!!

Lets try this new approach along with the changes we expect to see in 2020. Change is good!

Sorry gang, been out of commission for a bit. (Colonoscopy yesterday. Fun, Fun, FUN!)

So SOUP, here's the bet I'm willing to commit to... JUST "limit the wager" to ACC opponents ONLY. (In other words, eliminate the first 4 games.) We could even include the ACC Championship game, should we qualify...

I'm HOPING I LOSE $9! (I would LOVE for us to score 34+ points in our last 8 games, and the ACC Championship!)

Did you read where the 49ers didn't like Miami's practice field so they paid to put in their own practice field,

then the Canes said fk your practice field take it with you when you go, we like our own practice field.

Dam right

While fans are encouraged to be Fappy (Fat and Happy) players are not. Fat and slow is no way to go through life. In HS Donaldson was bigger than everybody else and basically just fell on people and crushed them. That gig ended as soon as he stepped onto a college field. Time to step it up a notch if he has any plans on playing in the NFL.

I will throw out the first three games. I will take the bet one these 9 games. No ACC Championsghip game. Good try on that one.

So whatta U say, deal?

If you want to increase the weekly bet to $10/game over 9 games I am good with that too.

Talk about a fun time.
Feel for ya roach.

After a couple delightful Colonoscopies, This last trip I opted out for the doo doo in the box and ship it in.

Best part was getting to say to the UPS store employee
"Hey man where do you want me to put this crap?"
Which got a good laugh from the lady cashier.

roachcane77

You don't think we'll lay 34+ against Clemson???

Yee have little faith!

CHILD PLEASE!

We prolly get a bloody nose in the parking lot and go crying home to Mommy for our blanky.

86Cane

OK, so then let's make it $100/game over 9 games and you should be able to eat groceries all year?

86Cane

Or are you scared of King and Lashlee?

Remember we have no offensive line right?

And no WR, most of who are Freshmen?

And, well U know, stuff like that.

roachcane77

Bro... I KNOW what we have and DON'T have... I'm PULLING for us to go undefeated!
(I'm an ORIGINAL 12%, from the days of Omar, remember?)

I'm "in" for all 8 "regular season" ACC games at $1 per pop!

Not "scared," (rather I'm hopeful), and reluctant to bet against our team's best interest.

HerbieIbis

JJ is right about one thing, if you're Bama, Clemson and OSU Stevie Wonder could win 10 games coaching those teams. I wouldn't say there were a dozen teams loaded with talent but there is At least 6 or 7.
Clarke and Smith got bumped to 4 star and Robert's got bumped back to 3 star, which means we got a whopping 9 four star players and had 12 four star decomits. I'm assuming JJ wasn't counting us as one of those 12 teams loaded with talent.
The offense will make a big difference next year, if they can get everyone on the same page.
Talent does win out, unless u are Miami playing in the coastal, where u play not to lose, instead of playing to win.

BigWindyCane1

Herb,

Good point. To turn this thing around, the Canes will have to win and score more than what is expected next season. Recruits like those 12 four-star decommits want to play with a winner, and location is just one factor—but not the major factor—in a recruits’ college decision

BigWindyCane1

No Lykes? No problem tonight.

Looks like the Canes men basketball team will beat Virginia Tech tonight, 71-61. This season, any ACC win by the Canes is a good win

solarcane

roach,
glad to here that
Here's to your good health

Technically D'Eriq King and Roche are 3 stars and 2 stars respectively. But based on performance since entering CFB, Miami added a 5 star player and 4 star player in the transfer portal.

anyone else watch canes mens bb?

excellent game (without leading scorer lykes)!

love watching the growth of the frosh,
. . . still not seeing all that many minutes from walker, but that's an exciting dude!
. . . could be a real gift next year alongside beverly & harlond

OK, OK...bet is $1/regular season game except for first three that we have agreed to waive.

Let's see if waiving them would have worked out in anybody's favor. I see why you would want to waive them but you never know with new coordinator, new QB, new OL, etc., etc.

TheHerb

Mahomes, No doubt!

CGNC,

We all know that defense wins championships! San Francisco has a great defense.

Therefore, my pick is . . . .Kansas City (Mahomes)!

“Football is a production business,” [Braxton] Berrios said. “You don’t have too much patience, but understand that it is a process. I truly expect the Hurricanes to be a lot better than they were last year. I think that was bottom. I truly believe that was rock bottom. After last year, you should have zero patience in relation to last year.”

TonyCane

86, that was a beleaguered group of players led by a quarterback who had given up on the OC, and an OC that may have given up on his team. We heard prior to the game that the offense was disinterested and it showed. Also read elsewhere that Enos had (out of frustration?) regressed back into parts of the Mark Richt offense as players just were not taking to what he was trying to teach. VA Cane can probably confirm this, but emotion plays a big part. The offfensive players - or at least Jarren - had lost faith in Enos and vice versa. It was a recipe for disaster.

Although the offense was slightly better than Coker’s last season - which saw just 20 puts a game - at least Coker had the (self generated) excuse of personnel shortages. Miami entered 2019 with a much deeper offensive roster and still produced terrible results. Had a change not been made. I expected Miami’s output to dip to 15 points per game.

I’m guessing it will be closer to the mid 30s now. Sweet spot would be +40, as that is championship level.

OK SOUP... It's on!

(I could STILL switch places with you, and take the "OVER" on this wager... )

The Herb

Coker had the worst qb to wear a Canes uniform, in Kirby Freeman. What was he against NCST, like 0-14 with 2 or 3 ints. But he did win a bowl game.
