hope Lashlee does well, we are so at the bottom, improvement should not take long :-)

Posted by: CGNC | January 05, 2020 at 10:10 AM

I do too CG.
I think If he does have success he wil be gone in two seasons tops. Look at his coaching career,he moves on one or two years at each stop. He is building his resume towards a head coaching job.
If he does get us jump started that will be a big improvement, and get more recruits and coaches looking our way.
One thing, if Lashlee fails we get rid of Manny so Lashlee either way is a win to me.

Duke's a final four team. Miami is, at best, a bubble team.

The NBA is likely going to analytically undervalue Vernon Jr. to its own detriment. James Jones should draft him to Phoenix and pair him with Ayton for this era's version of a Robinson/Duncan teaming.

"Our best player, Chris "Mighty Mouse" Lykes, made 2 of 15 shots.

Posted by: nemo2020 | January 05, 2020 at 09:10 AM"

That's not their best player. It's probably Kam McGusty right now, who also didn't play well and is struggling with turning the ball over too much currently. Probably because Miami had zero match up advantages at any of the five positions in the game last night, just a thought . . .

Oh right, new coordinator, meh hire until he can show he's fixed the recruiting deficiencies in the program, which means check back in three years if he's still employed. Glass half full: offenses under his direction are often efficient, meaning they move the ball and then get points off the field position more than an average offense would.

Glass half empty: Did you watch the left tackle pretend he was Matt Pipho last year? Did you watch Donaldson eat himself into range of 400 pounds last year and not be able to earn a yard constantly at the goal line despite that? Coordinating that out of the offensive playbook takes more than technique instruction at regular intervals . . .

Beta get his inhouse troubles squared away with this team. Sounded like a year long battle with discipline or lack there of. Nothing wrong with being a big bro, father figure or whatever but in the end tough love has got to be handed down. I think Manny wants to be the good guy and man in front the cameras can that lay on The BS thick.
Can't hide now, everybody is after that azz. Players know this could be his swan song. The 24 thousand dollar question is will they play for him and bust their buts. The ones that don't respect him won't. They'll use that as an excuse and unfortunately next season could be just as bad.

that line in your very well written article that described the D'no defense as "dough boys on a cold winter day" was brilliant.

Blustein Recruiting
SUNSHINE STATE OF MIND (rushers/RBs in playoffs)
Carlos Hyde, Naples
Duke Johnson, Miami Norland - 5 ⭐️
Frank Gore, Coral Gables - 5 ⭐️
Devin Singletary, Delray Beach American Heritage - 3 ⭐️
James White, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas - 3⭐️
Sony Michel, Plantation American Heritage - 5 ⭐️
Derrick Henry, Yulee - 5 ⭐️

I would add Travis Homer, West Palm Beast Oxbridge Academy 4 ⭐️
And the leading rusher, Lamar Jackson, Boyton Beach 3 ⭐️

One positive thing happened this recruiting cycle, the Canes got commitments from 2 of the top 3 rated RBs in the state of Florida this cycle. As long as CMD stays out of it, I think Lashlee will find a way to use them

Donaldson should be given conditioning and weigh-in goals, and if he doesn’t meet them, he doesn’t play. Other programs have conditioning and weight goals for their players, and there should be consequences for not making those goals. I don’t know if you have ever seen Donaldson at field level. Donaldson is massive, probably the tallest OL we have until Rivers steps on campus. Donaldson has had problems with his weight and conditioning. When he is in better shape, he can be good.

Donaldson needs to realize that if he wants to play football after his senior season, he needs better dedication off-the-field

LYKES - FG (71/159 = .447), 3PT (22/60 = .367), FT (35/44 = .795),
PT/G = 15.3.
McG - FG (73/164 = .445), 3PT (21/60 = .360), FT (27/36 = .750),
PT/G = 14.9

Also, Lykes leads the team in assists per game, although Kam does lead him in rebounds (but only by 2.6 per game).

McGusty SHOULD be our best player on our team. However, to date, "Mighty Mouse is on the way" to lead our team - for better or worse.

Regardless of the marginal differences per game between these two players, the key point is that Coach L is compelled to play 5' 7" Chris Lykes almost 30 points a game because we have no one on the squad who is any better at his position! And when Lykes is in on the court, in effect we have only 4 1/2 players on defense. Not good!

Last year our men's basketball team finished 11th in the ACC. This year, I predict that we will be lucky to be in the NIT post season. Most notably, Coach Ham's teams at FSU are a lot better than our teams at UM, more often than not. Why? Coach L needs to go!

Well with a now bad wheel, Donnie probably will be in the high kilo range fo sho.

but why do you not get, that coach L was NCAA hog-tied recruiting-wise for 2 years

Not even sure where that line came from but I guess the vision popped into my head of old Penn State days and their players in Winter playing in snow being white as snow as though they hadn't seen the sun in weeks if not months.

Funny how some memories fade yet others never do.

Like I already forgot how many points we scored against La Tech in the bowl game. How many was it again?

The Lashley hire is kind of like the sun peeping over the mountains first thing in the morning...some warming rays on a cold day....a cold day of 20 years!

CMD is the problem....the 5th of 5 lame non vetted hires as supposed HCs! Richt won 2 SEC titles so in my mind, he is the only real coach, but he was done when he left GA....all those bong hits mellowed him out.
Clappy played in 2 title games, but cmon....those teams were BD players all the way...KD was OC and ER was the DC.....they ran that team no Clappy!

Blake James is also the problem; in short he HAS to be fired. He is the root of the problem. And the BOT upset? They are also the problem a bunch of dumbasses in political positions! The boosters upset? They should have stopped giving years ago until things were done right! and the papers saying MannyPa (For you CGNC) is is dynamic personality? He is a fraud and a failure.

I still want all of em fired today; but with the Lashley hire, I guess we have to see what happens. We lost a lot of D...that was over rated as we played nobody really good...and still lost...The O line is so bad....and to run spread you got to be athletic and you still got to block...and those STs...what STs?

Noticed papers saying the Prez has stayed out of it....and he should. He is focusing on school...thats his job...I respect him for that. I wish the other Prez had minded her business as well.

The hire seems nice, but the rot is set in.I really think all need to be fired, get an AD, do a search and start over. It will be painful for a few years, but hell...whats a few more bad years. The program died in AZ in Jan 2003....there have been no good teams since then...that is the bar...some people may think otherwise...I do not. If you are not in the mix in some way, you fail you lose...and I hate losing like we have for so long.

One thing, if Lashlee fails we get rid of Manny so Lashlee either way is a win to me.

“I’m honored to be named the director of athletics here at the University of Miami,” James said. “I want to thank President Shalala and the board of trustees for the opportunity as we continue to move forward through these difficult times. We have assembled a great athletics staff with tremendous head coaches and I am grateful to be a Miami Hurricane.”

He had AD at University of Maine on his resume.

Another nim-nod who did not belong in a P5 school
But fear not, he did great things with Maine's men's ice hockey apparently. LMAO

This Saints - Vikings game is good. All the playoff games I have seen so far have been good.

VA Cane

Well put CGNC....James is a morn....that was quite a search too eh?

He and MannyPa got to go now!!! I wont back off of it...losers.

Vikes and Saints is great game...however I have noticed all year how few guys wear full pads...open knees thighs hips...Hell i was very fast and I padded up big time...forearms elbow...knee thigh...hips...shins....I delivered hits and protected myself...gore had no knee pads on yesterday...with those knees? I think it should be a rule you got to wear all the pads....safety first its not that big of a negative effect on speed...

You may be right
I may be crazy
Oh, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
Turn out the light
Don't try to save me
You may be wrong for all I know
But you may be right

VA - I did not notice the pads issue. Will watch for it later.

VA Cane

I was freaked out as Gore dashed for 20 on a play last night....pants rolled up, knees showing. You see it a lot...I am totally against it...game is fast and hard anyway...need to protect these guys limbs!

Just saw a tweet regarding a 2022 local LB recruit saying that he got an “offer” from Alabama, tagging Coach Huff. Looks like he is also being recruited by Kentucky and Penn St. The Canes haven’t gotten involved in recruiting him yet.

What the heck is going on with our recruiting?

They wait until the big boys offer, so they don't have to do their own evaluations.

VA Cane

Rumph should be ashamed of himself RE recruiting. He was on the title team, was a first round pick....he should have a lot to talk to the kids about...i would be over the edge talking about playing with Dorsey Reed Taylor Shock Buchanon...all those guys....tell the OL recruits about Gonzalez, Mount McKinney, Rhomberg....and how combined with other recruits, and with really hard work we can get there again!!! You got to be enthused....We road the bikes yesterday....I push it....we are already working toward winning another title...this ones past we like everybody else.

I went to VSU and 3 of my DBs that are back are in the weight room. It takes hard work and you got to hit the bricks and constantly work the positives you have in recruiting...

They offered like 22cb' during the early cycle and got ONE, who mainly played WR. Offered like 26 safeties and got 3. So around 48 Db's offered and we got 3.5.
Manny thinks no changes need to be made. We have no problem getting kids to verbal early but closing the deal, we suck as by looking at all those decomits. We had a better decommit class, than the one we brought in minus the Rb's and qb. We lost 5 four star WR's alone.
Already lost, I think 5 from next years class. Approaching 40 decommits in not even 3 years.

Herb and VAC,
Thanks for the info. It appears that CMD needs to take a different approach to recruiting. We definitely need to stop bleeding decommits

This guy sounds promising

Manny Diaz had one of the shortest stints in college football history during his 18 days at Temple in December 2018. After bringing strength and conditioning coach David Cooney a year ago, Diaz might be adding a star DL to the Miami football program from the Owls.
Manny Diaz could be adding another key member of the Temple to the Miami football program. Defensive end Quincy Roche was a dominant force for Temple in 2019. The 6’4 235 pound defensive lineman had 49 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

During his three seasons with the Owls, Roche has 137 tackles, 39.5 TFLs, 26 sacks, Six PBUs, five FRs and six FFs. Roche would be a huge addition to the Miami defensive line after the Hurricanes lost 2019 graduate transfer Trevon Hill and junior Jonathan Garvin who left a year early for the NFL Draft.

What if LeBron James went to

Roche’s stellar 2019 season earned him the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year as the Owls finished 8-5. Roche would team with rising redshirt sophomore Gregory Rousseau to give Miami one of the best and most versatile bookend edge rushers in the country or he could move inside.

Roche finished the 2019 season seventh in the nation in sacks, Rousseau was second. Roche was 10th in TFLs, Rousseau seventh. Andrew Ivins of Inside the U initially reported that Roche could be headed to Miami.

Miami has been in contact with Quincy Roche. Put him opposite Greg Rousseau. They combined for 28.5 sacks last season.

The prior relationship that Roche had with Miami strength and conditioning coach David Cooney at Temple will give Miami a good chance to sign him. Roche has already spoken with Miami about the possibility of matriculating in Coral Gables.

Diaz’s successor after his short stint in Philadelphia, former Northern Illinois head coach Rod Carey released the information a couple of weeks ago that Roche inquired about feedback from the NFL. The deadline for underclassmen to enter the NFL Draft is January 17.

VanDyke and Lashlee lived in the same town together, the plot thickens.

VanDyke is expected to enroll in Coral Gables later this month and Miami could add a graduate transfer at QB. The possibility also exists that some combination of Williams, Perry and/or Martell could transfer. Landing a graduate transfer could give VanDyke the opportunity to play in up to four 2020 games and redshirt.

“He (Lashlee) texted me the other day just saying that he’s looking forward to getting to work with me. I’m exited (sic). I think it’s a great hire. He just had a great season at SMU with great stats. He’s an air raid type of offensive coordinator that likes to throw the ball so that will be good.

I talked to him a lot there. He actually lived in my town for that season. He’s a great guy. I still got to get to know him a little bit more, but I’m looking forward to building that relationship with him. it has been going well. I have been doing it for five weeks so far…It’s hard work, but that’s what you got to do to win.

I'm all for.

I am not for retaining MannyPa...I was doubtful from the beginning, but I tried to support him. I was all for getting rid of him and getting a real HC....cause other than CMR...(who did win 2 SEC titles but was at the end of a career...and like AlPa he could not get rid of of a lame coach his son)....we have had terrible HCs and we have been also rans for 20 years.
With the Lashley hire, guess we have to give it a chance. ON PAPER....it looks good....the guy can produce. Not sure of the difference in talent at SMU and UM....we were not real talented other than D...the O and ST bad! Who will QB? Fields, Lawrence came into strong situations Burrow a good situation so they flourished. Williams was under fire all year. His numbers were not horrible...the OL was and is so bad....bunch of oompa lompas...but he does not get rid of the ball. Pornboy got to go..baggage...and just not with it. Martell is not a college QB....I see why OSU let him go. So you got Mochata and Van Dyke. This will take time to get right...it wont happen right off. You have to get an OL developed and this is the worst in CFB. It will be trying...but we do not play anybody in the first 4 games...but FSU, UNC, UVA VT and even Wake will be challenging....so 7-5 would be better than 6-6....I do not expect much more than this year...just some better offense.

VA Cane

If nothing else, my Saturdays will be more suited to my guys on both teams....12-0 and 8-2....20 -2 combined we win...and I love winning....vs 6-6 Canes wit a lot of bad losses....and I Hate Losing....

and I Hate Losing....

Technically it will have to be a different 2nd stringer since the aforementioned Mr Patchan was a Sr.

But the point is well made

Go Canes!!

The whole Patchan starting over Rousseau is fake news.

Kid was coming off a season ending injury and a new one in the fall.

He still got 20+ snaps in those first two or three games.

Hill was also injured and limited in practice:

Surgery in January to repair a labrum injury in his left shoulder thrust Hill into rehabilitation while he continued to evaluate his next move on the heels of being dismissed from Tech (2-2, 0-2). He graduated from Tech in May, but once he decided to head to Miami for his final season, he still had to pick up extra course credits in the summer before he was able to enroll.

“He wasn’t allowed to train with us, per (NCAA) rules, so he was kind of on his own this summer, which is very difficult to try to get ready for the rigors of a football camp in South Florida,” Miami defensive line coach Todd Stroud said. “Man, he’s really played his way into shape and his reps have been increasing every week. The thing he brings to the table is what an outstanding leader he is. From day one, he checked his ego at the door and became a teammate.”
