Keith Stone carries the team to new heights in the first half, and what do the Canes do?

They go away from him and Virginia Tech goes on a run.

Pro Football Network put out a two-round mock draft earlier this week and it had a pair of current Miami Hurricanes selected in the first round with defensive lineman Greg Rousseau going No. 7 overall to the New York Giants and tight end Brevin Jordan coming off the board at No. 18 overall to the Tennessee Titans.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2021-two-round-nfl-mock-draft/

I also see it is full of some recruiting misses we had, but if we can at least get back in the first round again, that is a start to something special!

The Word From The Herb

BigWindy,

This is partially true but Florida hasn't been no juggernaut it's a better conference, with better games and more upper tier talent.
Yes, winning consistently will cure most of our ills, but this conference doesn't particularly get u ready to play the big dogs.
It would help if Miami and FSU would get back to where they once were.
Saw an article where FSU recruiting rankings for the last four years has them around 11 and they still suck. Were in the top 10. Miami, I believe is around 17.

When the Canes start winning, they all will come (or at least trip over each other trying to get in)!

BigWindyCane1

U know u are taking seconds when u look at Bama's projected starting secondary will have 4 So.Flo. kids, Florida has 3 and Georgia 2 plus one top backup.
Ivey is our weak link. He's got to improve.
Can't keep watching these kids from down wearing the road out of So.Florida.

alpine talking skiing??? Go figure...😂

It's true though, Shiffrin is a freak of nature to dominate is so many different disciplines... Absolutely NO margin for error.

alpine

Shiffrin competes across multiple disciplines, against many women who train specifically for one or maybe two individual events. Because she must train for more races and races more, she will inevitably train less in any one discipline and will be less familiar with the mountain and the courses. Factor in rain, sleet, snow, hail, shifting wind conditions, flat light, obscene turns, steep grades, uneven terrain, crowd noise—not to mention her field of sometimes 50 competitors, who also train year-round, with their own teams—and it’s a wonder how Shiffrin triumphed as often as she did last season. Golfers can miss a shot here and there. Tennis stars can lose the odd set. Boxers can turn knockdowns into knockouts. Shiffrin can’t screw up a single turn. “To conquer all of those things with that high of percentage of win rate is just beyond belief,” Shaw says.

“I feel like one day I’m going to wake up and not believe it happened,” says Shiffrin’s strength coach, Jeff Lackie. “It defies logic. When you’re standing there at the finish, or on the hill, and you’re watching it unfold in front of you, and you know the work and dedication she’s put into it, it’s still impressive. Later on, people that don’t even understand the sport are replaying the highlights, and you’re saying, ‘What she does is insane. It’s not even remarkable. It’s next-level dominance.’ ”

We get UNC at home, and 6 games into the season. The Canes should be 5-0 (Temple, Wagner, UAB, Michigan State and Pitt) rolling into that game with a lot of momentum. Lashlee and King should be firing on all cylinders at that point, and the Canes should be ready to win a shootout, if needed

HerbieIbis

Pb,
Several articles I have read have pin pointed our DT'S that need to pick up the pace. They are good but not great. Not alot of pressure generated up the middle last year. Easier to step up in the pocket.
The Howell kid was from my neck of the woods. The dude is good and was throwing dimes all year on deep balls. Sort of like a control pitcher hitting his spots but that touch can go South, look at Lawrance. Our secondary was somewhat Green last year. For some reason, we always seem to struggle against them. Last time we played at the Rock T.O.'S saved us.

YUP, that and attrition. Too tired to fight anymore.

Found myself being AngryCane all the time and just had to let it go. Can only kick the dog and yell at the wife so many times before you get to the brink of losing all you worked for.

Just had to let it go...for now.

Now we come out and give up two sacks, go three and out a few times, miss a FG and blow a coverage for an easy TD there are no guarantees on what I might do. Nobody will be safe then.

But for now it's all peace and calm and I have allowed faith, hope and love return another time. But PLEASE Lucy I am begging you, PLEASE don't pull the ball out on me again, PLEASE just let me kick the ball this one time?

AeroCane

Diaz- While it is fun to think about the Hurricanes playing fast, Diaz wanted to make clear that the number one goal with any offense is being efficient and executing.

I thought the number 1 goal of the offense was to score points?

solarcane

For Manny Diaz, making the switch from a pro style offense to a spread system is bigger than just making a change to the trendy offense.

Diaz felt like it was time to make a change because it is a system that can get the most out of Miami’s skill talent.

In a conversation with The Athletic’s Andy Staples, Diaz shared how he believes a spread system can allow the Hurricanes to succeed without having to rely on overwhelming an opponent with talent.

“When you talk about the success of the spread offense, you are trying to make an offense that is quarterback friendly, where you don’t have to have a first round draft pick to score points on offense,” Diaz said. "You are looking to have a system where guys can consistently perform regardless of the quarterbacks coming or going and you can move the ball and score points.”

Diaz also shared he believes the system will allow for the Hurricanes to recruit the local talent at a higher level because it is the style of offense the high schools play in south Florida.

“It is reflective to the high school talent that is around here,” Diaz said. “Dade and Broward counties won six out of the eight high school state championships this year. I think so much of it too is about finding the right fit.”

Diaz hired Rhett Lashlee from SMU to orchestrate Miami’s spread offense in 2020.

Lashlee’s SMU attack averaged 41 points per game, 489 yards of total offense, and averaged 80 plays per game.

Those marks all ranked inside the top ten in the country.

Lashlee’s style of offense is built around a no-huddle, uptempo style. While it is fun to think about the Hurricanes playing fast, Diaz wanted to make clear that the number one goal with any offense is being efficient and executing.

“There is a lot of bad spread football teams that go fast and are not very good,” Diaz said. “It always goes back to the same deal—you have to do it the right way. The right way is about the people. It is all in the details which is something that kids can execute. There are some ways in which it does make things easier and simplifies things. Then there is this idea of always being on the attack—and I think that helps our guys.”

Miami will begin installing their new look offense during spring football, which begins on February 29th.

I loved Jim MORRIS, but I do recall a few ago when Morris became a first time father at 62 years old. I was happy for him because (if possible and God willing) every man should have that experience of being a father.

But I do recall discussing the fact that it would be an extraordinary challenge for a head coach of a major program to stay focused and run a program at that stage, given those challenges of first-time fatherhood and a younger wife. That discussion stuck with me as I watched MORRIS coast a bit toward his retirement.

Having Gino DiMare as a coach in waiting, and now a head coach, was a smart move. I think Gino DiMare is a very good baseball coach who can get it done.

HerbieIbis

Morris liked little ball. Sucker loved having players bunt.
I hated bunting. Let the game dictate what you have to do in certain situations. Morris would hunt a runner over in the first inning.

speaking of sports, pink floyd guitarist gilmour hit a hole-in-one, grand slam, TD-pass:

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, stirred by the message of 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg, wanted to do something to improve the world.

Last week, Gilmour auctioned off his guitars, including the black Fender Stratocaster that helped create Dark Side of the Moon and Shine On You Crazy Diamond. He said goodbye to the 12-string Martin behind Wish You Were Here. In all, he raised $21.5 million—that’s right, $21.5 million.

He gave the proceeds to a nonprofit that fights climate change . . . a charity called ClientEarth, which takes legal steps to combat climate change.

His grand gesture, applauded worldwide, may have a broader impact, persuading others to swap their mementos for cash to help solve our climate emergency.
