On a very pleasant but slight damp weekend in Coral Gables your highly ranked (#3/#5) University of Miami hardballers easily and efficiently swept their season opening series with Rutgers by a collective score of 23-9.
The Hurricanes saw significant improvement in the play of the offensive line under new OL Coach Garin Justice and new starting QB D'Eriq King was consistent and solid if not spectacular in his debut. Newly minted UM kicker Jose Borregales knocked in three field goals, the longest from 48 yards, in an encouraging performance in his first time wearing Orange and Green.
Oops, wrong sport, sorry about that little slip up. Now back to baseball...
Miami won 2020 home opener at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Friday night by a close score of 2-1 thanks to solid pitching.
The second game Saturday night was rain delayed until Sunday morning at 11 AM with the Hurricanes leading 8-2. The game ended the same way on Sunday.
The final game of the series saw UM break out the big bats and power their way to an easy 13-6 win over the Scarlet Knights.
Miami has a mid-week game against Kent State before hosting the Florida Gators next weekend in what should be a raucously good time.
We are very confident in this 2020 UM baseball team that appears to have great potential and a very good chance to reach the CWS this season.
Win The Game, the ones you're supposed too!

Rome wasn’t built in a day
But they had a plan
Here’s hoping Manny & co are prepared this season!
Just really want to see effort across the board! That would be a beautiful thing and something sorely devoid from our beloved Canes for a while now
God bless you and your family and go Canes!
Get some!

1. What coach EVER says "Our goal is to go out and score a bunch of points"?
2. They all talk the same talk and use the same buzzwords.
3. Mopers gonna mope I guess...
Posted by: pb | February 18, 2020 at 07:58 AM
1. Just once I would love to hear a coach say that.
2. So tired of hearing politically correct "coach speak". Be bold, break the mold.
3. Some people are perpetually stuck in mope mode. It kinda goes with the territory we have covered over the last 15 years.

Players do
Burrow when he heard Brady was going to help OC LSU:
“I think we’re going to score a lot of points, and I don’t think a lot of people are used to LSU scoring 40, 50, 60 points a game," Burrow said

peebster its called attrition
the action or process of gradually reducing the strength or effectiveness of someone or something through sustained attack or pressure.
"the council is trying to wear down the opposition by attrition"

And to think after FIU I had turned to the dark side and let all that work go to waste.
Manny better come through damn it!

pb,
I think we are in real good shape.
I think Howell from UNC will probably have a Heisman day against our secondary unless the pass rush is as advertised.
I don't see anybody else on the schedule with too much firepower.

YUP, that and attrition. Too tired to fight anymore.
Found myself being AngryCane all the time and just had to let it go. Can only kick the dog and yell at the wife so many times before you get to the brink of losing all you worked for.
Just had to let it go...for now.
Now we come out and give up two sacks, go three and out a few times, miss a FG and blow a coverage for an easy TD there are no guarantees on what I might do. Nobody will be safe then.
But for now it's all peace and calm and I have allowed faith, hope and love return another time. But PLEASE Lucy I am begging you, PLEASE don't pull the ball out on me again, PLEASE just let me kick the ball this one time?
LOL

Pb,
Several articles I have read have pin pointed our DT'S that need to pick up the pace. They are good but not great. Not alot of pressure generated up the middle last year. Easier to step up in the pocket.
The Howell kid was from my neck of the woods. The dude is good and was throwing dimes all year on deep balls. Sort of like a control pitcher hitting his spots but that touch can go South, look at Lawrance. Our secondary was somewhat Green last year. For some reason, we always seem to struggle against them. Last time we played at the Rock T.O.'S saved us.

We get UNC at home, and 6 games into the season. The Canes should be 5-0 (Temple, Wagner, UAB, Michigan State and Pitt) rolling into that game with a lot of momentum. Lashlee and King should be firing on all cylinders at that point, and the Canes should be ready to win a shootout, if needed
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | February 18, 2020 at 09:08 PM
U know u are taking seconds when u look at Bama's projected starting secondary will have 4 So.Flo. kids, Florida has 3 and Georgia 2 plus one top backup.
Ivey is our weak link. He's got to improve.
Can't keep watching these kids from down wearing the road out of So.Florida.

I think UNC is about our toughest game as far as QBs go. I think if we score first and get the fans going nuts we will be good to go and score big numbers.
UNC has never been intimidated by us. Its time we really put a Joe Rock stadium ass whuppin on them.

Shiffrin competes across multiple disciplines, against many women who train specifically for one or maybe two individual events. Because she must train for more races and races more, she will inevitably train less in any one discipline and will be less familiar with the mountain and the courses. Factor in rain, sleet, snow, hail, shifting wind conditions, flat light, obscene turns, steep grades, uneven terrain, crowd noise—not to mention her field of sometimes 50 competitors, who also train year-round, with their own teams—and it’s a wonder how Shiffrin triumphed as often as she did last season. Golfers can miss a shot here and there. Tennis stars can lose the odd set. Boxers can turn knockdowns into knockouts. Shiffrin can’t screw up a single turn. “To conquer all of those things with that high of percentage of win rate is just beyond belief,” Shaw says.
“I feel like one day I’m going to wake up and not believe it happened,” says Shiffrin’s strength coach, Jeff Lackie. “It defies logic. When you’re standing there at the finish, or on the hill, and you’re watching it unfold in front of you, and you know the work and dedication she’s put into it, it’s still impressive. Later on, people that don’t even understand the sport are replaying the highlights, and you’re saying, ‘What she does is insane. It’s not even remarkable. It’s next-level dominance.’ ”

It's true though, Shiffrin is a freak of nature to dominate is so many different disciplines... Absolutely NO margin for error.

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | February 19, 2020 at 03:25 PM
BigWindy,
This is partially true but Florida hasn't been no juggernaut it's a better conference, with better games and more upper tier talent.
Yes, winning consistently will cure most of our ills, but this conference doesn't particularly get u ready to play the big dogs.
It would help if Miami and FSU would get back to where they once were.
Saw an article where FSU recruiting rankings for the last four years has them around 11 and they still suck. Were in the top 10. Miami, I believe is around 17.

Pro Football Network put out a two-round mock draft earlier this week and it had a pair of current Miami Hurricanes selected in the first round with defensive lineman Greg Rousseau going No. 7 overall to the New York Giants and tight end Brevin Jordan coming off the board at No. 18 overall to the Tennessee Titans.

I also see it is full of some recruiting misses we had, but if we can at least get back in the first round again, that is a start to something special!
