On a very pleasant but slight damp weekend in Coral Gables your highly ranked (#3/#5) University of Miami hardballers easily and efficiently swept their season opening series with Rutgers by a collective score of 23-9.
The Hurricanes saw significant improvement in the play of the offensive line under new OL Coach Garin Justice and new starting QB D'Eriq King was consistent and solid if not spectacular in his debut. Newly minted UM kicker Jose Borregales knocked in three field goals, the longest from 48 yards, in an encouraging performance in his first time wearing Orange and Green.
Oops, wrong sport, sorry about that little slip up. Now back to baseball...
Miami won 2020 home opener at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Friday night by a close score of 2-1 thanks to solid pitching.
The second game Saturday night was rain delayed until Sunday morning at 11 AM with the Hurricanes leading 8-2. The game ended the same way on Sunday.
The final game of the series saw UM break out the big bats and power their way to an easy 13-6 win over the Scarlet Knights.
Miami has a mid-week game against Kent State before hosting the Florida Gators next weekend in what should be a raucously good time.
We are very confident in this 2020 UM baseball team that appears to have great potential and a very good chance to reach the CWS this season.
Let's get back to the CW SERIES!

Gotta love big windy
The team could of been swept by Rutgers and he’d still find the positives and ‘feel good’ about the team!

🤣 Aero, I admit I love my Canes blindly sometimes
When the Canes lost Zamora, I was concerned but they still look pretty good.

i can't remember a time when we didn't open with rutgers . . . and baseball vs. rutgers always feels a bit like playing football vs. south florida (during one of their typical down years)
. . . if you lose, hang it up and hope you win in the off-season
Posted by: alpine | February 17, 2020 at 04:16 AM
. . . but if anyone wants to get pumped up over a rutgers sweep, i'm all for it!

speaking of sports, pink floyd guitarist gilmour hit a hole-in-one, grand slam, TD-pass:
Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, stirred by the message of 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg, wanted to do something to improve the world.
Last week, Gilmour auctioned off his guitars, including the black Fender Stratocaster that helped create Dark Side of the Moon and Shine On You Crazy Diamond. He said goodbye to the 12-string Martin behind Wish You Were Here. In all, he raised $21.5 million—that’s right, $21.5 million.
He gave the proceeds to a nonprofit that fights climate change . . . a charity called ClientEarth, which takes legal steps to combat climate change.
His grand gesture, applauded worldwide, may have a broader impact, persuading others to swap their mementos for cash to help solve our climate emergency.

Cane Fans are crazy,
Alpine takes any men's basketball win as though it was a final four victory,
then blows off a baseball sweep by the only Canes team in a decade the press has mentioned actually has a shot at a national championship.

If he can't feel good about the team now, when should he?
Posted by: pb | February 17, 2020 at 10:23 AM
That's the way u dispatch those bumps by putting Da Broom to dat azz.
The first big test comes next weekend. Tired of getting punked by the Gators. No excuses this time around.
We have the squad, even without Zam. Truth be known he was a little leaky on dee last year but a very tough loss for the team. Got to get at least 2 next weekend.
Aero, was right, you not going to hit every game and having coached for over 30 years, I saw it all and doesn't help much when you play in drizzling rain.
Rutgers did hit some bombs but no harm no foul.

Saying Miami is the number one team in the nation in a major sport is something big in this day and age.
"Miami took over the No. 1 spot in the D1Baseball Top 25 rankings after sweeping its opening series against Rutgers. The Hurricanes moved up two spots from No. 3, taking advantage of losing weekends by Louisville and Vanderbilt, the top two teams in the preseason rankings."

Well Solar The Decade Just Started lol. Because last decade The 2016 Team that Made it to Omaha was the #1 Seed and #1 Team In The Nation. So Yeah They were the favorite. Oh Yeah The 2015 Team also went to Omaha and was the #6 Seed as well so they had a legit shot to win it all. So They have had 2 Teams in the previous 5 Years who had a chance to win it all hopefully this years team will get to those teams level and surpass it.

I was reading an article that mentioned the fact the only qb on our schedule that has close to King's ability is the dude from UNC.
Having a qb that can beat other teams is pretty awesome.
I'm predicting we have 185 points scored after the first 4 games.

Last time King faced Temple he threw 5 touchdowns and lost.
I don't see Temple rushing for 6 touchdowns against our defense.

Morris liked little ball. Sucker loved having players bunt.
I hated bunting. Let the game dictate what you have to do in certain situations. Morris would hunt a runner over in the first inning.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | February 17, 2020 at 02:45 PM
I loved Jim MORRIS, but I do recall a few ago when Morris became a first time father at 62 years old. I was happy for him because (if possible and God willing) every man should have that experience of being a father.
But I do recall discussing the fact that it would be an extraordinary challenge for a head coach of a major program to stay focused and run a program at that stage, given those challenges of first-time fatherhood and a younger wife. That discussion stuck with me as I watched MORRIS coast a bit toward his retirement.
Having Gino DiMare as a coach in waiting, and now a head coach, was a smart move. I think Gino DiMare is a very good baseball coach who can get it done.

In other UM baseball news, sophomore catcher Adrian Del Castillo was named the first Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week on Monday. Del Castillo, hitting .556 after the sweep over Rutgers, hit two home runs and had six RBI, three runs scored and a double for the weekend.

1. Totally agree.
2. If I ever run afoul of the law I want Big Windy as my lawyer. He's gonna make me sound so good to the judge and jury that NO WAY I could have committed any crime. No way, no how, NO SIR!

For Manny Diaz, making the switch from a pro style offense to a spread system is bigger than just making a change to the trendy offense.
Diaz felt like it was time to make a change because it is a system that can get the most out of Miami’s skill talent.
In a conversation with The Athletic’s Andy Staples, Diaz shared how he believes a spread system can allow the Hurricanes to succeed without having to rely on overwhelming an opponent with talent.
“When you talk about the success of the spread offense, you are trying to make an offense that is quarterback friendly, where you don’t have to have a first round draft pick to score points on offense,” Diaz said. "You are looking to have a system where guys can consistently perform regardless of the quarterbacks coming or going and you can move the ball and score points.”
Diaz also shared he believes the system will allow for the Hurricanes to recruit the local talent at a higher level because it is the style of offense the high schools play in south Florida.
“It is reflective to the high school talent that is around here,” Diaz said. “Dade and Broward counties won six out of the eight high school state championships this year. I think so much of it too is about finding the right fit.”
Diaz hired Rhett Lashlee from SMU to orchestrate Miami’s spread offense in 2020.
Lashlee’s SMU attack averaged 41 points per game, 489 yards of total offense, and averaged 80 plays per game.
Those marks all ranked inside the top ten in the country.
Lashlee’s style of offense is built around a no-huddle, uptempo style. While it is fun to think about the Hurricanes playing fast, Diaz wanted to make clear that the number one goal with any offense is being efficient and executing.
“There is a lot of bad spread football teams that go fast and are not very good,” Diaz said. “It always goes back to the same deal—you have to do it the right way. The right way is about the people. It is all in the details which is something that kids can execute. There are some ways in which it does make things easier and simplifies things. Then there is this idea of always being on the attack—and I think that helps our guys.”
Miami will begin installing their new look offense during spring football, which begins on February 29th.

That's the other 129 teams goal.
Ours is just having 11 players execute the same play on third down.

They all talk the same talk and use the same buzzwords:
Mistake free
Disciplined
Smart
Efficient
Fundamentally sound
Physical
So much moping around going on at a time where there should be some excitement for the first time in months.
Mopers gonna mope I guess...
