Solar
That’s a great comment by ‘canes warning’
Shaq was who he was - nothing more nothing less
But I thought Pinckney was going to have a much more dynamic year- now I know why he disappointed
Hope he heals well and quickly

Canes Warning today

"The high level of pain tolerance that Pinckney had to have to continue to play through an excruciating injury speaks volumes to the player he is."

solarcane

Aero,
you are right, most competitive guys try and play through pain.
It seems like Pinckney missed a couple games with a hurt knee and an ankle if I'm remembering right, I wonder if they checked him out from head to toe completely.

AeroCane

Pinckney did what all top athletes do prior to the big pay day - play through it so your status isn’t hurt nor do you want to lose time to a potentially younger, better guy (even if it’s just in your imagination) ie lou Gehrig and Wally pipped (I wasn’t around back then but, alpine, you can tell us about it. Lol)

alpine

as on the ball as Coach Feeley seems to be it seems like he would have gotten with the trainers and had Pinckney examined by a doctor pronto if he noticed he was in pain working out. I think Feeley is around the players more than anyone else.

good point; real hard to figure out that this injury just skipped by

It is damn frightening the age we are living in right now. I doubt these times will be looked back on as the good old days to anyone that makes it through them.

Major sports events could be canceled?

Pinckney is meeting with teams at the Combine in Indianapolis but not working out. The injury has bothered him since late in his junior season but nobody knew it was a torn labrum.

This is unbelievable! How was this missed? This is devastating news for Pinckney!

Is there a team doctor at the U?

Former UM linebacker Mike Pinckney recently learned that he has a torn labrum in his right hip and will need surgery, which will sideline him six to nine months, agent Deryk Gilmore told me.

So I heard that the Olympic Committee is considering cancelling the Summer Olympic Games set for Japan later this year due to the potential virus pandemic. Interesting times we are living in, huh?

Yeah that's it, timely Bombs they hit. Giving up to many Gopher balls.

CGNC The Gators Had Better timely hitting than Us But We Are Fine! Go Canes!

CGNC

It is still nice to have the Canes ranked in the Top 10 in baseball. Sounds like the Gators had a tad better pitching.

UM hoops, now at 6-11 in the ACC after Sunday’s loss at Notre Dame, would need to win its final three regular season games (at Georgia Tech next Saturday, then home to Virginia and Syracuse) and two ACC tournament games to finish .500 in the conference and bolster its chances for an NIT bid..

lack of assists and high turnover / ball movement is non-existent. Better coaching would help / haven’t recruited a true point guard.

Lack of rebounding has been our biggest defensive issue all year

Yep, Coach L is the man!

BigWindyCane1

- one thing, though, whatever ball movement drills ND does, coach L should steal 'em and put our team thru those same drills every single practice; it was a thing of beauty

Agreed. This lack of assists and high turnovers has been our biggest offensive issue, and ball movement is non-existent. Better coaching would help, and the Canes really haven’t recruited a true point guard. Lykes is not a good playmaker for his teammates like a good point guard. And no one else on the roster is a point guard, although the Canes have great wing players who can create their own shots.

Lack of rebounding has been our biggest defensive issue all year. Stone provided a momentary boost, but not enough

Good article soup.

To me hearing Roy Clark play guitar was worth all the corny skits and stuff, guy was a great guitar player.

Looking at Linda Thompson wasn't bad either.

If u can't win big games, then u just playing the schedule out.
Baseball has the chance to change their narrative but basketball, NOPE!!

Posted by: HerbieIbis | February 24, 2020 at 10:20 AM

i disagree:

(1) still a small chance to be asked into NIT

(2) gotta get better for next year; particularly get the frosh to grow and get the team to work together . . . we only lose vasiljevik & stone next year; hope we bring in some good blood . . . not worried about wong taking the next step if he can stay healthy; would really like to see beverly & walker get better

- walker reminds me of a bowling ball in the wrong alley; great energy & athleticism yearning for more mental clarity, awareness & understanding
. . . hope these last few games + a coach L off-season gives him some of that

one last thing regarding shooting: canes better in 2-pt land, shooting 24 of 48 (should have been 25; see beverly story above), while ND shot 18 of 37

. . . but in the perimeter, ND hit 14 of 31!!!!
. . . canes hit a miserable 5 of 22; many on open shots; disappointing, since we're not a bad 3-pt team

- one thing, though, whatever ball movement drills ND does, coach L should steal 'em and put our team thru those same drills every single practice; it was a thing of beauty

alpine

one thing you hate to see: beverly gets a steal at mid-court, races all the way to the basket with no one next to him and tries a dunk-post up, which is so weak, it doesn't go in; other team grabs rebound; gets it quickly down-court for their own slam dunk

that's something that sllces into your kajoobies; hopefully a learning moment for beverly

alpine

- mens basketball tried, but notre dame could've shot the whiskers off a blind squirrel during the 2nd part of the first half, when every three seemed to swish

. . . at the other end, the canes' threes were the blind squirrel trying to find a nut = "every now & then", at most

- after the shamrock-y lepercons 4-leaf first half, the canes had no chance
. . . and i give notre dame credit for being an excellent team, (who have won 7 of their last 9 in the ACC) particularly on O, where they had a nation-leading assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.72 before doing even better v. the canes
. . . they deserve an ncaa invite unless they start clinking

- canes not bad . . . wish vasiljevic wasn't slumping the last few games: we need his mojo & pts.

- keith stone with a wonderful acrobatic move leaping onto an official's desk and off . . . sporting that same droopy, "i haven't woken up yet but check again in 8 hours" look

alpine
