You know RoachCane as a member of Canespace.
But his community knows him as something much more than that.
The Lemon Bay High School tennis program grew to new heights and great acclaim under the tutelage of coaches Darrell Roach and Mike Maier.
The school repaid their commitment by dedicating Tuesday its eight new tennis courts as the Darrell Roach and Mike Maier Tennis Complex. One hundred or more former and present high school tennis players, their parents and fellow teachers turned out to honor them.
“Any time you get the chance to recognize two individuals who have been instrumental in not only a tennis program, but a school and a program we have at Lemon Bay, it’s an awesome day,” Principal Bob Bedford said. He highlighted the careers of both coaches.
Roach, who retired after 39 years teaching, started at Lemon Bay in 1988. Among his accomplishments at the school, Roach grew the school’s audio-visual program. Bedford described Roach as “instrumental in everything we did.”
As a tennis coach, Roach’s 30-year coaching career included 305 wins, 114 loses and one tie, 13 district championships, eight straight district and regional championships, and his teams qualified for eight state tournaments. His teams finished in the top four in state competitions in 2015 and 2016. Over the years his teams were ranked fifth, sixth and seventh in the state.
“To finish in the top 10 any year is phenomenal,” Bedford said, adding the school board agreed the two coaches deserved the permanent recognition of their dedication to the students and tennis players.
Both Maier and Roach recognized the support they’ve had over the years from the parents and the community at large.
Coach Roach is an amazing guy and is highly respected among his peers. Simply put he is a great person and a hard core Miami Hurricanes fan.
We are very privileged to have him among our family of friends here on Canespace. He adds to the mix of our rich culture.
Canespace is better and stronger because of people like Darrell Roach.
I am honored to have met him and to call him my friend.
Coach Roach we salute U!
hell ya coach

Who knows? Perhaps, we can win 1/3 of of our ACC games this season?

Thanks guys... You get old enough... 😂
Anyway, it's been a great run here at Lemon Bay High in little Englewood, FL. My girls varsity tennis teams had over 300 wins, 2 undefeated seasons, 13 District titles, 8 Regional titles, and 8 straight trips to the FL State Tennis Finals, (The Elite 8), finishing 4th, and twice 5th, at the State Finals... Not bad for a little "public" school competing against many private "academy" schools.
I've retired from the classroom, but still coaching golf and tennis for the Manta Rays after 40 years!
Thanks for the blog SOUP!
Let's Go CANES!

Randy S salary a cool million a year now.
UCF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon has now earned the title as the highest-paid Group of Five assistant in the nation. The Orlando Sentinel reported on Tuesday that Shannon's annual compensation spiked from $300,000 to $1 million as of Feb. 1, a mark that puts him at No. 24 nationally on the list of college football's highest-paid assistant coaches and atop the list within the Group of Five.
On top of the bump in pay, Shannon also received a one-time retention bonus of $300,000 earlier this month, per the report. Altogether, UCF is on pace to pay its assistant more than $3.5 million dollars combined for the 2020 campaign

He deserves it. Has been a very good DC for a long time. I think he realized, he wasn't a head coach and stuck with what he knows best. Don't like to blitz and as long as he has got some good Dee linemen, his units are solid, especially tackles.

The feared Tuesday South Beach nightlife flu strikes again! Don't look now nemo, but the toughest schedule of all ACC members that Miami has played up to this point this year is about to lighten up for the Hurricanes. Not that it helped them at all when they played North Carolina with seven players available, but at least the non-midget freshman guards are getting their bearings now to try and finish above .500 which can only help . . .

I agree 100%. I read that Shannon was being considered for several DC jobs, so UCF is simply locking Shannon down. I think UCF now pays its DC more than we do, although I think was paid more than Shannon is now getting paid. I don't think Baker deserves to get paid a lot, but I hope Lashlee is getting paid well..

He reads what Shannon is getting paid you can bet he will bring it to UMs attention.
Lashlee and King bring down the house, Lashlee should be compensated or he will be gone I think.

The Canes men basketball team did pull out a nice win at home against Boston College last night. Coach L is finally allowing Wong to play his game.
Another two stats that jump out at me is that the Canes had 17 assists and they out-rebounded their opponent, because to date, the Canes have been the worst in the ACC in both of those categories. The Canes also had 11 turnovers, but for the first time in a while they had more assists than turnovers.
If the Canes continue to share the ball and rebound, the Canes will win some games.

ESPN once again in spite of what some fans believe still loves Manny and Miami
Miami football ranked 23rd in the ESPN S&P+ metrics for 2020
by Alan Rubenstein2 hours ago Follow @UARuby
There has been a lot of movement from the Miami football program after the end of a disappointing 6-7, 2019 season. Based on who is returning for the Hurricanes they rank 23rd in the ESPN S&P plus metrics for 2020.
The Miami football team performed strongly in the ESPN S&P plus rankings in 2019. Finding unlikely ways to lose and a poor kicking game somehow kept the Hurricanes in the top 30 in the metric measurement despite a 6-7 season. The return of the majority of the Miami receivers and the offensive line has Miami 23rd for 2020.
The ESPN S&P Plus ratings are based on metrics that include returning production, recent recruiting and recent history. With so many new players stepping into key roles for Miami 23rd has to be considered more than fair. It is difficult to measure how quarterback D’Eriq King and defensive end Quincy Roche will play.

Lashlee to Tate and kosi
"The first thing I ever told the quarterbacks here...I’m gonna be upfront with you because that’s how I roll. We’re going to try and go out and recruit a transfer quarterback. It doesn’t mean we don’t like you. It doesn’t mean you won’t be competing.”

Im digging this dude more everyday

He's telling them, u both have effed up, so in order to get u to bolt and prove to yourself u ain't the man, we're going to go get someone to show u how to play qb. Telling them with out telling them to have their bags packed. Nothing more, nothing less.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | February 13, 2020 at 11:55 PM
Herb,
I'm hoping King takes Van Dyke under his wing and gets him ready to step in.
I would like to see a real Miami qb start for a couple seasons straight rather than a portal guy each year.

Posted by: pb | February 14, 2020 at 05:30 AM
i'm assuming you're talking about katie meier?
personally, i'm disappointed in what she's been able to get out of the team this year . . . i get that she has 5 frosh, lost 2 big pieces last year and has her premier center sitting on the bench
. . . but she also has 5 juniors, a rs junior and a redshirt sophmore; and it's the time of year where good frosh should be responding
. . . i just think they should be meshing better and showing more growth
i won't over-judge her this year, but if meier's team doesn't start wow'ing me next year, then on alpine's seating chart, she'll get the over-warmed chair that's had sun hitting it for a couple hours

i liked this lashlee quote:
“When you talk about South Florida. When you talk about the University of Miami. We do have access to a lot of speed and a lot of good athletes. So why would we not make a defense defend the whole field and tackle those guys in space? Getting our guys in space allows their speed to be used to our advantage. Let their DNA take over.”
Posted by: alpine | February 14, 2020 at 09:44 AM
Under the last offensive coachng regime you would have thought that "getting the ball to our guys in space" was contrary to NCAA rules and would result in a 15 yard penalty.

The Herb's second love, Da U baseball in action tonight. Need up dates from some of you guys if u don't mind.
Was sitting here thinking about each position and had a premonition, that we will average at least 35pts a game and maybe 38, IF King stays healthy.
I have only 4 question marks:
1. Can our oh linemen open holes to be able to run.
2. Can our DT'S get a push up the middle.
3. Depth at LB and run stoppers.
4. Can our WR'S learn how to run routes to get seperation.
The sacks will be cut down by just getting rid of the ball quicker.
Can't have injuries at DT. Will be super young if that happens.
All correctable things with better coaching.
