The University of Miami football program has hired Rob Likens as wide receivers coach, head coach Manny Diaz announced Friday.
"We are excited to welcome Rob and his family to Coral Gables," Diaz said. "Rob has extensive experience with fast-paced, high-octane offenses and he can serve as a great teacher and motivator to the young men in our receivers room."
Over his 28-year coaching career Likens has been an offensive coordinator at four schools, including the past two seasons at Arizona State, where he was also the quarterbacks coach.
In 2019, the Sun Devils started a true freshman quarterback, Jayden Daniels, for the first time in school history. Daniels threw for 2,943 yards with 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions, eclipsing the 300-yard passing mark on five occasions. He threw for a season-high 408 yards in ASU's 31-28 upset over sixth-ranked Oregon. Running back Eno Benjamin rushed for 1,083 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, finishing his career with 15 100-yard rushing games. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk caught 65 passes for 1,192 yards and eight touchdowns, ranking second nationally in yards after catch (10.9). Aiyuk also ranked sixth nationally in all-purpose yards (155.8 per game). Benjamin and Aiyuk both earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors. The Sun Devils also turned the ball over just 14 times, ranking sixth in the country in turnover margin.
In 2018, ASU was the only Power 5 program to boast a 3,000-yard passer (Manny Wilkins), 1,500-yard rusher (Benjamin) and 1,000-yard receiver (N'Keal Harry). Wilkins accounted for 28 total touchdowns, while Benjamin set a school single-season record with 1,642 rushing yards. He broke ASU's single-game rushing mark with 312 yards in a win over Oregon State. Harry caught 73 passes for 1,088 yards and nine touchdowns and was later selected by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Both Benjamin and Harry earned first-team all-conference honors.
Likens spent the 2017 season as the Sun Devils' wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. ASU had the 10th highest-graded passing attack in the nation according to Pro Football Focus after being graded 86th in 2016. The 76-spot swing in the passing game rankings was the third highest in all of FBS. Harry racked up 82 catches for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors. The Sun Devils had five different receivers with 100-plus yard games in 2017, a school record.
Likens arrived in Tempe after two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Kansas. He spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons at California as assistant head coach and outside receivers coach, adding the title of passing game coordinator his second season.
In 2014, Likens' passing game, led by future NFL top overall draft pick Jared Goff, ranked sixth in the NCAA in passing yards per game (346) and broke the school's single-season passing yardage record with 4,152 yards. Additionally, three of Cal's top four receivers were Biletnikoff Award candidates in Chris Harper, Kenny Lawler and Bryce Treggs.
Cal's passing game during Likens' first season with the Golden Bears set single-season school records for passing yardage (3,977), pass completions (368) and pass attempts (622), while also establishing new single-game marks for passing yardage (521 vs. Washington State) and pass attempts (65 vs. Northwestern).

The University of Miami baseball season is almost here, and one way to get acquainted with what is expected to be one of the best teams in the nation is to hang out Saturday afternoon and evening at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
The Canes’ annual FanFest and Alumni Game festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a team autograph session , continues with alumni batting practice from 4:15 to 5 and concludes with the 6 p.m. alumni game.
The famous Mark Light shakes will be flowing.

Yo Ralphie, I get it. When she flows heavy, she flows with the teeth of death always around the next corner. You stare down death at each turn. When we went it was full, flowing and risky but not the instant death we saw in that latest video.

It was plenty fast that first trip with you, Skool,Ocala and me.
How many times did we fish the Gator gal out of the drink? That was some fast water that day.
The second trip on the more sane section was fun too.
I been down a couple more times but that first trip with you skool and Ocala was great..kinda like your first beer with your school pals.

Seems like a recurring them over the years. The Canes are the only college football team to consistently find itself among the top teams in combine invites, but not ranked in the top 25. 🤔

Go,
Garvin didn't need to go. He coasted to much last year.
Really none of them should have gone and the vast majority of them had one really good season and it usually was their soph. season or redshirt soph. Season.
Walton, Homer, Jackson are a few others who jetted early. A few have family issues and don't want to risk another year of college and a few think they were better than they were but I'll have to say they tend to be better pros, no matter where they were drafted, than college players.

I’m not on it yet; I will immediately be on it when one of the below happens:
• Reed rips manny a new one for being a pussy
• manny rips a player for doing something detrimental to the team
• manny fires Patke and hires a real special teams coach
• manny fires Blake and gets a real DC (which in turn logically means Patke will be fired)
• manny fires somebody to HIRE Barrow back

39-36 fsu on top w/ about 3 minutes (i think) in the 1st half
frosh wong has been very fine offensively
Posted by: alpine | February 08, 2020 at 12:39 PM
half: unfortunately, miami down 47-50 due to great fsu play at the end
Posted by: alpine | February 08, 2020 at 12:53 PM
FSU leading, 50-47, at halftime. Canes might be playing their best half of this season so far. Wong is keeping the Canes in the game

. . . it's a fast game; fsu has been killing the 3 pointers
. . . and fsu has killer depth

-watch 'em while their down; glory in it when they rise again
- next year they will double their wins and make the NCAA tourny; but disappoint and exit early
. . . the year after they will be top 3-4 in ACC; make NCAA tourny and get to sweet 16
- the year after that, coach L should think about retiring and help decide who should take over 1 - 3 years down the line (2026ish)

Alpine u and OGV need to sit together so u can both put together a game plan to make the Canes a better basketball team.
Everyone has a few injuries, look no farther than UNC.
They obliviously have the same problem the football team has and that's playing on the road.
Face it, Miami ain't going to be a a basketball juggernaut. Once in a blue moon they may go deep in a tournament and then it's back to reality.

This kid is pretty good here in Georgia, maybe what we thought we were getting with J Williams
Lashlee already oggered him as Cane OC
Aaron McLaughlin is a 6’4” 225 pro style quarterbacking dynamo from Denmark high school in Alpharetta, Georgia. Shortly after Miami and new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee offered the gunslinger, McLaughlin decommitted from Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers.
Aaron McLaughlin
@11_apm
Please respect my decision. Recruitment is officially open.

The state of Georgia has recently established a very high bar for quarterback play at the high school level. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, and Jake Fromm are just a recent list of names who have parlayed from peach state promise to lime light status.
Now McLaughlin’s recent decommit status being a coincidence or not, he has the goods and is definitely worth our full and undivided attention. One of my biggest takeaways was McLaughlin’s very pristine and obvious firm grasp on the fundamentals. He has good footwork, balance and displays a natural and repeatable throwing delivery of the football.

McLaughlin seems poised to be the next Georgia boy to achieve grown man status on the college scene. Possessing the athleticism needed to keep defenses honest in the run game, this is a sure fire fit in any spread system to include Lashlee’s.
17 touchdowns vs. 7 interceptions, the height, the frame, the arm, the athleticism, the firm fundamental base, the ability to extend plays coupled with the freakish trait of rolling opposite side and throwing with tremendous getty-up? Roman Rank: 4 Star
State of the U’s “Student of the Game” is in full off season attack mode and focusing on recently offered quarterbacks for the 2021 cycle. The aforementioned McLaughlin is batting lead off this series and promptly goes deep on the first pitch. BANG!!!

I will have to check with my Georgia pals up here to see if they bought him yet.
