Great idea soup

Solar...if there ever was that time I think that this is it. Maybe we can all meet at a central location and ride together to the beach in the 12% bus if VACane has it ready to roll?

solarcane

Is this the part where we make a fire on the beach at night, break out the bongos and acoustic guitars and sing Kumbaya?

Ahh man... all this serious nostalgia going on makes me pine for those good ole days. Like when we all truly believed we were only 1 recruiting class away from “being back”. Or a single player or two, or a single coach, was The Problem. Remember 86 asking, no begging Omar bloggers to check out his new site Canespace. Now we’re 15 years removed from decent Canes football and 13 since Canespace was birthed. Hard to believe. Cool thing... as many “old” bloggers are still around as have drifted away. Some not as active perhaps, but still here. Life sometimes intrudes.

THANK U Tom!

Was the "truth" a bald-headed dude? I think I met him at a tailgate but it was hot and i was 7 - 8 deep in the captn-n-cokes so I could have been talking to a lamp post for all i know.

Sorry about that my friend. I very much enjoyed our exchanges and meeting you and your lovely wife at the UNC game many, many Saturdays ago,

I also was gone for a while because of a combination of factors. Had been banned a couple of times and got stuck in the middle of some different personalities as well. By the time I returned you had regretfully left us so I started using a new sign on. Out of respect for Tom I did email him early to let him know.

I am very glad to be lad to be back under my original name from way back in the Sun Sentinel days, mostly so I can once again pine for CGNC in the open.

As far as the Truth goes, I met him once for beers and as far as I can remember his connection to the team was more through a couple of players, not the university, but I may be wrong.

alpine

wait, "go" is "pb"?

damn, maybe that was elvis i saw last week

solarcane

Go/pb,
Im kinda disappointed you didn't email or tell me you were going underground, we had a pretty close relationship on here in the early years.

solarcane

I had a lot of private emails with The Truth he did meet pb and he sat next to soup a couple times. He was very humble guy as far as I could tell.

He really got bored with the constant clashing and power struggle 86cane and Mary were going through keeping both blogs rosters filled, and that was part of the reason he moved on.

He advised me to take a break from blogging when the content went from Canes fans talking to people attacking each other.
That was good advice.

He never told me exactly who he was or how he got his information.
I emailed him to wish him well a few times but that email address was closed just like he told me it was going to be.

Sarasota 'cane

C'mon man! I never bought the Da Skreetz stuff. I got to be honest it was uncomfortable to read sometimes. Like watching a white guy pretending to be "street" cringy.

I'm glad that's over...

Miami football key QB recruit top performer at Under Armour All-American Camp
by Alan Rubenstein13 minutes ago

Four-star quarterback prospect Miller Moss who is high on the Miami football 2021 recruiting list was one of the elite performers at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Southern California this weekend.
Four-star quarterback Miller Moss who has the Miami football program as one of five schools he is reportedly high on, excelled at the Under Armour All-American Camp in Orange County California this weekend. Moss was named the Alpha Dog by 247Sports and currently has 20 scholarship offers.

Moss is the highest-ranked uncommitted QB offered by the Miami football program. The Hurricanes currently have scholarship offers out to four pro-style QBs in the 2021 recruiting cycle and one dual-threat QB. Of those five signal-callers, Moss is the only one listed as warm with the Hurricanes.

Moss is an elite quarterback that could challenge 2020 incoming freshman Tyler VanDyke and potential returnees N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell who will be redshirt seniors in 2021. The chances are strong that Martell, Perry or both could transfer after the 2020 season or even potentially before

Moss is the 60th ranked player in the country, the seventh-ranked pro-style QB and seventh-ranked player overall in California for 2021. VanDyke was the 220th ranked player in the 2020 signing class nationally, the seventh-ranked pro-style QB and top-ranked player in Connecticut. Right now VanDyke is the QB of the future.

“ALPHA DOG – QB Miller Moss, Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany

The 6-foot-2, 197-pound prospect didn’t appear at all affected by the wet and gusty weather at Mission Viejo Stadium. Moss was accurate to all levels of the field, repeatedly hit receivers in stride both during one-on-one battles and in the 7-on-7 portion of camp, and looked poised in connecting on his deep ball.

He was smooth mechanically and showed off his arm strength on a number of impressive throws over the middle where he fit them into tight windows. With 20 scholarship offers on the table, the likes of California, Miami, Northwestern and UCLA are high on the list, while Stanford is also one to monitor closely.

Moss earned an invite to the 2021 Under Armour All-America Game with his performance.”

Mountain and Island region 247Sports analyst Blair Angulo is clearly high on Moss. Miami has traditionally recruited well signing QBs from California. Heisman Trophy winner and national champion Gino Torretta, national champion and Heisman Finalist Ken Dorsey and all-time leading passer
Brad Kaaya were from California.

Following his elite performance in Southern California this weekend, Moss received an invite to the Under Armour All-American game next year and was named one of their Future 50 as one of the best 50 players in the country. Five Miami signees in the Class of 2020 played in the Under Armour All-America game this year

I hurt my ankle. (Former receivers coach) Curtis Johnson was like, ‘Reggie, come out.’ ‘No! I got this (Coach).’ I’m not letting him in the game. That was our motto. If you got hurt, your bad because the guy behind you is probably better than you anyway.”

70-51 duke with 3 minutes left for those holding their breath

i'm kind of disgusted . . . really don't like the lady canes team this year and i'm not seeing enough growth in the juniors and redshirt sophmores

BigWindyCane1

Alpine,

It’s not that I think Coach L should be on the hot seat, I am just saying that in my opinion, he could do a better job recruiting and coaching players who play good team offense and defense.

I give Katie Meir a break this because she lost Beatrice Mompremier to injury, and she was a preseason All American and ACC player of the year. She also lost Laura Cornelius, who decided to forgo her Senior season to play pro basketball in Europe

alpine

43-29 halftime
. . . a not-so-great duke team putting the canes women away in another frustrating game
. . . you want to call for heads, meier's seat should be warm
. . . canes must own their own travel agency, cause no team has travelled as much as this womens team

oh well, time to hang in there
. . . could be worse: i could be watching cars or horses or dogs running around a track (snore)

Never have but have heard that it is WICKED GOOD!

I am up for that one year.

alpine

Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | February 09, 2020 at 11:05 AM

windy - i think i'm not being clear

- i love the stats you bring up and i totally agree, that we are below ACC average in everything; sometimes we're even the bottom of the barrel
. . . rebounds & assists are classic examples

- where i disagree with you and seemingly everyone else, who posts about BB, is
(1) the CAUSE of this plight (see below) and
(2) i think coach L has them playing BETTER than they actually are
. . . despite all the bottom stats, they've only been blown out about 5x; mostly from top 10 teams and usually injuries played a major part
. . . whereas they beat illinois, beat 3 ACC teams, came very close to an FSU upset the first time but lost in OT, etc.
. . . they're definitely a bottom team, but they have fight and chutzpah

- regarding point #1 above: i do NOT think coach L's recruitment and/or player development is the problem, so getting rid of him is not the fix
- recruiting-wise, remember, as a non-basketball school, he still brought in dewan, lonnie & bruce a few years ago
. . . and despite last year, he brought in a very good frosh class this year
. . . but like i've repeated ad nauseum, he had an entire recruiting cycle taken away, so that we do not have a single non-redshirt sophomore!!!

- development-wise; i always see improvement from his players year to year

bottom-line: they need to have 2 more good recruiting cycles to make up for the FBI-bust, and they will be good again (assuming injuries don't keep killing us)

KYcane

The Chattooga Looks pretty awesome

Any of you guys ever run the Gauley in West Virginia? Ran it twice - pucker city at it’s best

BigWindyCane1

then you have the situation, like last night, where both of our bigs, gak & miller, are out injured, so FSU gets to clean up on the boards
. . . so many 2nd chances hurt our rather decent inside presence

Posted by: alpine | February 09, 2020 at 02:18 AM

I agree that the Canes struggled rebounding yesterday, but the problem with this team is that they are last in the ACC in rebounding. Even with MILLER healthy, they still struggled rebounding. The Canes aren’t very good at rebounding, and that is who they are.

The Canes are also at the bottom of the ACC in most defensive categories, and they are also at the bottom in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.

I like some of the talent on the team, but I am not sure they play like a real “team “ on both ends of the floor this season. I think the Canes have some talent, but it’s practically impossible to win games in the ACC or at any college level when you have miserable team stats like this.

Posted by: solarcane | February 07, 2020 at 09:36 PM

Yeah, I've done the French Broad since then, but it doesn't compare. Like riding a dime-store pony and an Arabian

alpine

BUT:

- L's last class was money: wong & beverly may not be one-and-done material, but they look to me as good as lonnie walker did

- walker brings a fun tornado energy . . . which at the moment, is unfortunately, so wild, he's still hurting his own team a lot; and his shot is still not going down
. . . but when L has time to groom his energy, watch out

- haven't seen anything about the next class yet; not even sure if there's already bodies that given their "yes" to our program, but we comin'

. . . plus, a 3rd cousin of mine has an uncle, who's 4th cousin has an aunt that has a cousin, who's married to coach L . . . so he's my homie!

alpine

g'morning!

nemo, aero, herb, windy: excellent come-back banter; made me smile!

but remember, coach L was good for a run about every 3 years, when the recruits, the injuries and the basketball gods aligned up good at our non-basketball school

- the 3-year timetable got messed up when the combo of NCAA vs. hewan + FBI false rumors that were not allowed to be aired & cleaned, wiped out a full class of coach L

. . . which has meant not enough bodies in the program; not enough bodies for good rotation play (tired at the end in games where the opposition has a deep bench; i.e. the entire ACC); and particularly, not enough healthy bodies for good practices, where you build, for ex., better assist-habits

- then you have the situation, like last night, where both of our bigs, gak & miller, are out injured, so FSU gets to clean up on the boards
. . . so many 2nd chances hurt our rather decent inside presence

solarcane

Herb that Aaron kid also kicked extra points as a 9th grader besides playing qb pretty talented

He got an offer from Missouri when he was in the 7th grade, he committed to Auburn but opened his recruiting back up.
I will have to check with my Georgia pals up here to see if they bought him yet.

Solar,

I like Aaron McLaughlin’s video. His size is 6’4” 225, which is good size.

Windy I know you dig high school high lites

Here is the kid from Alpharetta Lashlee is trying to recruit to qb behind Van Dyke
This kid is on the sports channels pretty much here. He can run around and improvise and he is big

This kid is pretty good here in Georgia, maybe what we thought we were getting with J Williams

Lashlee already oggered him as Cane OC

Aaron McLaughlin is a 6’4” 225 pro style quarterbacking dynamo from Denmark high school in Alpharetta, Georgia. Shortly after Miami and new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee offered the gunslinger, McLaughlin decommitted from Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers.

Please respect my decision. Recruitment is officially open.

The state of Georgia has recently established a very high bar for quarterback play at the high school level. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Deshaun Watson, and Jake Fromm are just a recent list of names who have parlayed from peach state promise to lime light status.

Now McLaughlin’s recent decommit status being a coincidence or not, he has the goods and is definitely worth our full and undivided attention. One of my biggest takeaways was McLaughlin’s very pristine and obvious firm grasp on the fundamentals. He has good footwork, balance and displays a natural and repeatable throwing delivery of the football.

McLaughlin seems poised to be the next Georgia boy to achieve grown man status on the college scene. Possessing the athleticism needed to keep defenses honest in the run game, this is a sure fire fit in any spread system to include Lashlee’s.

17 touchdowns vs. 7 interceptions, the height, the frame, the arm, the athleticism, the firm fundamental base, the ability to extend plays coupled with the freakish trait of rolling opposite side and throwing with tremendous getty-up? Roman Rank: 4 Star

State of the U’s “Student of the Game” is in full off season attack mode and focusing on recently offered quarterbacks for the 2021 cycle. The aforementioned McLaughlin is batting lead off this series and promptly goes deep on the first pitch. BANG!!!

Face it, Miami ain't going to be a a basketball juggernaut. Once in a blue moon they may go deep in a tournament and then it's back to reality.

Alpine u and OGV need to sit together so u can both put together a game plan to make the Canes a better basketball team.
Everyone has a few injuries, look no farther than UNC.
They obliviously have the same problem the football team has and that's playing on the road.
