The University of Miami baseball program remains ranked among the top teams in Division I, coming in as high as No. 5 in polls released Monday.
The Hurricanes (11-4, 3-0 ACC) are ranked highest by Baseball America, moving up one spot to No. 5 in their top 25. The Canes also jumped up one spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll, climbing to No. 8.
Miami held its position in three polls, remaining at No. 7 in the D1 Baseball top 25, No. 9 in Collegiate Baseball's poll and at No. 11 in the Perfect Game poll.
The Canes ascent in the rankings comes after they went 3-1 last week, dropping a midweek game at FAU before sweeping Pittsburgh in their first ACC series over the weekend.
Miami bounced back from its first midweek loss of the season with an impressive showing in their first taste of conference play.
One swing of the bat by Alex Toral sent the Miami Hurricanes home winners in their ACC opener on Friday afternoon. The reigning ACC home run king hit a rocket off of Pitt right-hander C.J. McKennitt that got out of Mark Light Field in a hurry, giving the Canes an 11-inning 5-4 walk-off win over Pittsburgh.
Strong pitching and timely hitting helped the Hurricanes secure a series win over the Panthers Saturday night. The Canes (10-4, 2-0 ACC) got another excellent outing from Chris McMahon, while a three-RBI showing from Adrian Del Castillo helped propel Miami's offense to a 5-0 win.
An offensive explosion helped the Canes complete a sweep of their ACC rival with a 14-2 win on Sunday, as Jordan Lala and Anthony Vilar's three-hit performances led an offense that combined for 18 hits in the series finale.
The Canes hit the road this week, traveling to UCF for a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. After facing the Knights, Miami will continue on its road swing for a weekend series at Virginia Tech beginning Friday at 4 p.m.

Looks like Savion Collins is hanging by a thread.
Basically saying Miami needs to improve this year and Stroud needs to show him some love. Apparently Stroud doesn't communicate with him much.
This is one kid we don't need to be losing. 6'4 300 lb. DT. Runs a 4.8 something 40.

Clock will be ticking on Manny as it is. He better hope Lashley and King are the real deal, if not that decom list will be in double digits again. Get Leonard Taylor and we will be set at DT for a minute.

Aero That 2013 BTW team would have hung right with Enos crap last year.
Windy probably saw them play plenty.
I remember Norcoss Ga was like number 5 or 6 in the country up here, and the rednecks were saying how under rated they were... Then BTW hung like 50 some points on them pronto, and the fans piled quietly back into their pick up trucks and headed home.
It was one of the few times I got to tell my neighbors "I told you so" when using the words Miami and football in the same sentence.

Solar and Soup,
I didn't attend the Norcross game, but Norcross had Christopher Hendon, who I think is one of the best TEs I have seen play live at a college football game. He had it all, blocking, routes and catching. I really love the way he plays the game of football.
I do remember that run that BTW had that year, and I attended a few big-time games at Traz.
I definitely remember going to that Central v. BTW game at Traz Powell, and seeing the BTW LB interception return at the end of the game to seal it. There were several future Canes and NFL players on the field for both teams.
Mark Walton, Demetrius Jackson and Chad Thomas played for BTW, and Central had Trevor Darling, Joseph Yearby, with Yearby outperforming Dalvin Cook in many of those big-time games. But obviously, Yearby didn't pan out at the college and pro levels like Cook did. Still, Yearby was great in high school. Davante Freeman, Denver Kirkland, Mathhew Thomas and Amhad Thomas who are in the NFL had just left Central and BTW, but future NFL players Deatrick Nichols and Antonio Callaway were there. That was a great game
NFL were there.

Qualifying Statement: I am not starting another "Bring Back Butch" argument here BUT...This is where Da Butch was head and shoulders above other reruiters of talent.
1. Butch didn't look at a HS player like Yearby and say "Is he great in HS?". He asked what is his potential for growth and development in COLLEGE and can he be an NFL player with the proper growth, strength and conditioning, coaching and opportunity?
Some players are just HS players (size/speed), some have maxed out their potential (started too early) and some are just tapping into it at that level (late bloomers or had the drive but not the coaching or opportunity).
2. The NFL is a business, not a blind fan base. They know talent, they can see potential and they make estimated guesses on who can help them win. In spite of all the money the scouts and general managers and head coahes in the NFL are being paid they still get it right and wrong at times but mostly it is based on productivity and moreso on POTENTIAL.
How much room does player X have to grow and what is their ceiling? How hard do they work? Are they a fit in the lockeroom? Do they have leadership potential beyond their physical abilities to make the the players around them and the team better? (see Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Sean Taylor).
Those are the intangibles that makes player X greater that player Y who has all the productivity but none of those other criteria. That is the difference between winners and losers at the highest levels.
Joe Yearby was a great HS RB.
Kenny Dorsey was a great college QB.
Lamar Thomas was a great college WR.
None of them was Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis or Frank Gore, or Reggie Wayne or Andre Johnson or Vinny Testaverde or Jim Kelly.

UM head coach Manny Diaz comments on new commits position by position
University of Miami head coach Manny Diaz updates the media position by position after signing day, at the Hecht Athletic Center in Coral Gables, Florida, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. BY DANIEL A. VARELA
If the Miami Hurricanes could finish 12th in Rivals’ 2020 recruiting rankings despite going 6-7, imagine what UM could do with a better offense (which is expected this season) and a better record.
Miami already is off to a good start for 2021 recruiting, with a 10-player class rated fifth by Rivals, behind Florida, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame.
This story is a subscriber exclusive
Where things stand, with all commitments non-binding:
OFFENSIVE COMMITMENTS
▪ Four-star Hollywood Chaminade Madonna running back Thaddius Franklin, rated by Rivals as the 13th-best running back and 205th-best overall prospect in the 2021 class. He decommitted from UM on Dec. 9 but now feels encouraged about the program’s future and recommitted in mid-February. UF remains in pursuit.
▪ Three-star Miami Northwestern receiver Kalil Brantley, the 83rd-ranked receiver in the 2021 class, according to Rivals.
UM envisions him playing tight end, with Brantley standing 6-2 and 208 pounds and still growing. Miami will need to stave off Oregon and West Virginia, among others, to hold onto him, and he could play as a freshman if Brevin Jordan turns pro after the 2020 season.
▪ Four-star Miami Central offensive lineman Laurence Seymour, the eighth-best guard in the 2021 class, per Rivals. LSU, Georgia and Oregon are pushing hard.
He told Canesport: “I’ll still be committed; it’s nothing [for UM] to worry about.” But UM will still worry until he actually signs. He could compete for immediate playing time in 2021, with Navaughn Donaldson entering his final season of eligibility this fall.
▪ hree-star offensive tackle Michael McLaughlin, from Stoneman Douglas in Parkland. “Great pickup,” recruiting guru Larry Blustein texted. “Reminds me of Eric Winston when he came out of high school. Long and lean. Not to say he will be what [Winston] was but that’s who [McLaughlin] reminds of.”
DEFENSIVE COMMITMENTS
▪ Three-star Miami Northwestern defensive end Ja’Corey Hammett, rated by Rivals as the No. 25 weak-side defensive end in the 2021 class. He could end up playing linebacker at Miami. Tennessee and Rutgers continue to pursue him, but Hammett told Rivals that he’s solidly committed to Miami.
▪ Three-star Miami Northwestern cornerback Tim Burns. He had five interceptions last season and might be undervalued by recruiting services because of his height (5-10).
Auburn, West Virginia and Tennessee — among others — keep pursuing him, but Burns has said he’s solid to UM, partly because of a very strong relationship with cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph.
▪ Three-star Homestead South Dade High defensive end Tyler Johnson, rated by Rivals as the nation’s 32nd weak-side defensive end in the 2021 class. The younger brother of former UM star safety Jaquan Johnson, Tyler Johnson committed on junior day on Feb. 3, choosing UM over offers from UF, FSU, UCF and Georgia, among others.
▪ Four-star Miami Central defensive end Chamon Metayer, rated by Rivals the 40th best weak-side defensive end. Like Johnson, he committed during junior day last month, bypassing offers from UF and FSU.
▪ Four-star Miami Southwest defensive tackle Savion Collins, the No. 19 defensive tackle. He has offers from Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Penn State, UF and FSU but committed to UM last September.
But he told The Athletic that he hasn’t spoken to UM coaches in the past month and visited UF during the weekend. He could fall off the commitment list.
Kicking commitment: Two-star Chaminade Madonna kicker Andres Borregalas, who in 2021 will succeed his brother (FIU grad transfer Jose Borregalas) as UM’s kicker. Andres chose UM over Louisville, FIU and Southern Mississippi. He’s considered the top kicker in the 2021 class and last season hit seven of nine field-goal attempts, including one from 47 yards.
TOP TARGETS
There are a bunch, but the hope is to land at least one or two of the elite undecided South Florida prospects.
Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties have five 2021 players in the Rivals top 100: the nation’s No. 1 outside linebacker (Terrence Lewis); elite defensive backs James Williams and Corey Collier, the No. 2-ranked receiver in Jacorey Brooks and cornerback Jason Marshall.
UM is in play, but not perceived to be a favorite, for Miami Palmetto’s Collier, rated the 14th-best player in the 2021 class by Rivals. He’s visiting UF, LSU and Clemson this month. UM, FSU, Oregon and North Carolina are among others reportedly drawing consideration from Collier, who attended UM’s junior day in February.
UM is believed to have a good chance to land four-star Miami Booker T. Washington receiver Brooks, rated the 15th-best player in the 2021 class. He’s also considering UF, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, LSU and Texas A&M. A projected early enrollee wherever he signs, he had 86 catches for 1,187 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
Four-star Plantation American Heritage safety James Williams, rated the 18th-best player in the 2021 class, decommitted from UM last May. He told Canesport on Sunday that Miami is still alive but running fourth, behind Alabama, Clemson and Georgia.
Miami has ground to make up with four-star Chaminade Madonna outside linebacker Lewis, rated 19th among all 2021 prospects. He has spoken of having UF, Nebraska and Texas A&M among his undisclosed finalists, with Oregon and Penn State also of interest to him.
UM is in the mix for four star Miami Palmetto cornerback Marshall, the 61st-best prospect in 2021. He has a tough decision among finalists, including UM, UF, Georgia, Alabama , Clemson, FSU and LSU. At 6-1, he has the size and athleticism that the top college programs covet.
Palmetto defensive tackle Leonard Taylor, rated 115th, is another high UM priority but the Canes are considered a heavy underdog. He plans to visit UM, Oregon, Texas A&M, UF and LSU. Taylor told Canesport he wants to see UM win a lot of games this season, but that Miami isn’t in his top five.
South Florida’s highest-rated 2021 offensive tackle, Davie University School’s Marcus Tate (138th) previously committed to Clemson.
UM has also offered several other local players, including Columbus left tackle Ryan Rodriguez (Miami is the front-runner); Plantation four-star receiver Jacolby George (previously decommitted from UM but still considering the Canes) and Chaminade Madonna defensive tackle Allan Haye, who has Miami in his top two, with Iowa State also in pursuit.
And UM has drawn at least some attention from a bunch of top 250 players outside South Florida, including Plant City receiver Mario Williams (rated 16th among all 2021 players), Jacksonville inside linebacker Braden Jennings (47th, brother of UM linebacker Bradley Jennings), IMG Academy receiver Agiye Hall (88th; reportedly hopes to visit UM in April), West Virginia-based cornerback Isaiah Johnson (94th; attended UM’s junior day); New Jersey-based defensive end Aaron Armitage (113th) and Maryland-based receiver Jalil Farooq (184th)

Lot of talent in So. FLO. that does not have us, at the present, in the area code.
If we lose one game to some turd team, this class could go from the Penthouse to the shitter, in terms of some elite talent.
We got by this past year and ended up with a good class but we also had approximately 12 four star decomits.
If the Oh does it's part then we should be okay but in some cases the damage has already been done. It also doesn't help that the ACC is lousy, with a bunch of mediocre teams, not named Clemson.
These einstein high school kids don't get it, if they stayed home, like mamma wants, then the ship don't have to sail, it can stay docked here.
Manny is going to have to work alot of magic to overturn the nightmare, that was last year!
Croots are now vocally calling out DA U, wanting to see results trend in the upward trajectory, so the pressure is on. Manny, they are telling u they are now from the show me state, no more lip service.

Herbster U are correct let me add that If I am Miami My Base is The Cities Around This Country especially The Sun Belt From Virginia to Texas and add in California(LA, SD, SF) and LV(Nevada) Obviously U will get 2/3 of your players from Florida but I would get my remaining 1/3 from the rest of that Blueprint!
Posted by: Terrance M Sullivan | March 11, 2020 at 11:49 AM
I got u Tee, no doubt but this cycle, there are 2 top shelf DT'S, that can be dogs for us. Last time we had an elite DT beside Willis was Wilfork. We can get edge rushers all day but that position is where we have flopped over and over. Yes we have had some serviceable dudes that half the the time they are good and other times they are average at best. Florida doesn't have an abundance of really good DT'S.
DB'S, RB's, DE's and WR's there is talent every where.
Last Cycle and this cycle there are some good Oh linemen to be had and the best one already is verballed to Clemson. We caught to be mining Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas for fillers. New Jersey is a state we used to pull talent from.
Florida is a thorn in our side, mainly because kids can still play in state, be closer to home and play in the SEC.
They ain't that great and aside from Georgia that division they play in is weak.
