The University of Miami baseball program remains ranked among the top teams in Division I, coming in as high as No. 5 in polls released Monday.
The Hurricanes (11-4, 3-0 ACC) are ranked highest by Baseball America, moving up one spot to No. 5 in their top 25. The Canes also jumped up one spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll, climbing to No. 8.
Miami held its position in three polls, remaining at No. 7 in the D1 Baseball top 25, No. 9 in Collegiate Baseball's poll and at No. 11 in the Perfect Game poll.
The Canes ascent in the rankings comes after they went 3-1 last week, dropping a midweek game at FAU before sweeping Pittsburgh in their first ACC series over the weekend.
Miami bounced back from its first midweek loss of the season with an impressive showing in their first taste of conference play.
One swing of the bat by Alex Toral sent the Miami Hurricanes home winners in their ACC opener on Friday afternoon. The reigning ACC home run king hit a rocket off of Pitt right-hander C.J. McKennitt that got out of Mark Light Field in a hurry, giving the Canes an 11-inning 5-4 walk-off win over Pittsburgh.
Strong pitching and timely hitting helped the Hurricanes secure a series win over the Panthers Saturday night. The Canes (10-4, 2-0 ACC) got another excellent outing from Chris McMahon, while a three-RBI showing from Adrian Del Castillo helped propel Miami's offense to a 5-0 win.
An offensive explosion helped the Canes complete a sweep of their ACC rival with a 14-2 win on Sunday, as Jordan Lala and Anthony Vilar's three-hit performances led an offense that combined for 18 hits in the series finale.
The Canes hit the road this week, traveling to UCF for a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. After facing the Knights, Miami will continue on its road swing for a weekend series at Virginia Tech beginning Friday at 4 p.m.
You are why I believe there is good in my fellow man.

This was Manny's finest defense. Not a single point scored against the Hurricanes over 15 games. Stunning!

Solar - reminder that my kiddo is playing soccer at UVA... ncaa athletic ban means no coach supervised activity at all. No practices no nothing.

Absolutely crazy times.
Sad for the athletes who've poured their heart and souls into their sport, only to have it snatched from them by something completely beyond their control.
The way this thing has been politicized and the chain reaction of damage it has caused makes me equally sad.
Such a shame.

UMike, Solar, and Jason Sadly Unless something drastically changes their want be any Canes Baseball against GT in Atlanta or anymore Canes Baseball this season. Let's link up Lord Willing this Fall for Canes Football against GT in Atlanta. Hopefully this year I don't come down with a Awful Cold like 2 Years Ago!

Jeff Thomas at the 2016 open, where measurables are taken and compare to the NFL combine and he gained all of 3 pounds in 3 years and got a tad slower. This dude must of been skating thru the winter and summer workouts.
Cam Akers from FSU gain 4 LB'S in 3 years lost a little speed and almost 5 in. Off his vert.

How does this happen? Good info 305. It makes you wonder what was going on with these guys? It will definitely hurt them in the draft, although IMHO, Akers will be drafted, and (unfortunately) JT4 probably won’t

No live sports for the foreseeable future? In America? What will we do?
I guess I will go to YouTube to watch old games and get my fix

I wonder, with the cancellation of the rest of Spring football, will the NCAA allow teams to start earlier in prep for the Fall. I know we could use them 11 days we are going to miss but why would start practice right before Spring break, take about 10 days off and come back and start practicing again. Start getting a little MO and put the breaks on.
The moral, don't put off tomorrow what u could of got done today.

NCAA granting one extra year of eligibility to seniors
Posted by: solarcane | March 13, 2020 at 08:07 PM
A day after canceling all spring championships because of the coronavirus outbreak, the NCAA is granting athletes in those spring sports an extra season of eligibility.
The NCAA’s decision will allow seniors, who briefly believed they had played their final games in college, to return for an extra season in 2021.
“Council leadership agreed that eligibility relief is appropriate for all Division I student-athletes who participated in spring sports,” the NCAA said in a statement.
For the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes baseball team, this means seniors Brian Van Belle, Tyler Keysor and Chad Crosbie will be allowed to return next season even though all had exhausted their four seasons of eligibility. Van Belle, a redshirt senior, was Miami’s Opening Day starter this season after foregoing the 2019 MLB draft to return to the Hurricanes.

By the NCAA suspending recruiting, it should give the Canes a little edge with local recruits who can’t go visit. Still, it all boils down to winning. If the Canes bounce back from a 6-7 season to go 10-2, which is what they should, that will solve 75% of their recruiting problems
