Just messin with U Solar!

This is what wil be needed for stadiums and sports to gradually in time resume normal operations.

On April 26th I wrote this:

FAN REQUIREMENTS:

Pre-attendance negative test certification within 30 days of date of first game through private medical doctors, public testing facilities already in place and/or drive thru testing sites located at stadium parking lots (multiple sites/entrances) starting 30 days prior to the season beginning.

On May 6 Governor Desantis announced this on live TV from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami:

"This testing site at hard Rock Stadium in Miami has been one of the best and most productive testing sites in the State if not the Country. They have performed over 20,000 tests at this site alone. We will now be adding the seriologic tests to test for anit-bodies to the the virus to see how many have had the virus and have developed the anti-bodies. This is a very important next step to being able to move forward and continue opening up the State."

But since this falls under one of those topics that apparently "I know nothing about" you can just ignore these facts. That is all.

Very strange😳. I wonder what the story is behind that? I wanted him at the U. To enter the transfer portal before his first season? Strange!

But he is talented. UF has recruited and developed OLs in Florida much better than us, Walker would be a nice addition

Soupster your 20 thousand theory at Games seem to be on target Miami Dolphins COO Tom Garfinkel is expecting to hold 15,000 at Gard Rock Stadium This Year For Dolphins Games I would assume that capacity at Games This Year For NFL And College Football Games will probably be between 10,000-40,000 Fans per Game! 10,000 for the 30,000 seat Stadiums and 40,000 for the 100,000 seat stadiums! Going to be interesting!

Big time kids in So.Flo. want to play games, we can now go to other states. Class filling up quick. Only 11 slots left. Got to hold onto Collins at DT. Lot of talent local, that a majority don't have us as a top choice
Need some top notch WR'S, as we have none yet.
We need this season to be played and show off this OH.
Kids need to see it in action.

It appears the Canes and Lashlee are actually recruiting athletes to run a spread offense
Posted by: BigWindyCane1 | May 03, 2020 at 11:33 PM

YAY!!!! Finally! (I believe it's the Herb who's been calling for this for years... ) The SPREEEEAD!

Looks like the NFL is very close to an announcement... hopefully the NCAA is not too far behind...

BigWindyCane1

I like Arroyo’s size. Looks like a good HS TE size at 6’4” and 210 lbs, to grow into an athletic spread TE in college.

It appears the Canes and Lashlee are actually recruiting athletes to run a spread offense

HerbieIbis

TE Eiljah Arroyo to Da U. Hey a 4 star breaks the run of 3's, although sum publications have him as a 3, no matter the kid is 6'4 with a svelte 210 LB basketball frame at present. Good pick for us.

305 Prophit

I know most of our CB's are not burners. Clarke is supposed to be but the dude played very little CB in high school.
Restrepo is probably quicker than fast.

BigWindyCane1

Who is the fastest guy on the current roster?

Posted by: Hassan | May 03, 2020 at 10:21 AM

Great question. Normally, we get the S&C coach releasing the Spring testing numbers, but we didn’t get it this season.

I don’t think our Canes have Had as much speed on the team the last few years. . I say this because people like JT4 and Deejay tested about 0.10 slower at the NFL combine than they did last spring when hand-timed by Feeley at UM. Even Al Golden had faster players.

With Lingard transferred, It appears that Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins are fastest, with Mike HARLEY and TeCory Couch close third.

My best guess among the freshmen in no particular order, Knighton, Restrepo, Clark and Smith are the fastest

College football got to be played. I'll break into a cold sweat, if it isn't. Can't stand watching the pros.

Posted by: The Herb | April 26, 2020 at 10:28 PM

I've wondered about this on both the pro and NFL levels...

College:
1. How does this affect recruiting, if the season is cancelled? If in Dec 2020 there is still no word on when CFB resumes, does this start to skew recruiting in unusual ways?

2. Is the eligibility of athletes frozen due to a cancellation?

3. Does the NCAA grant scholarship cap waivers to all schools - inflating them by the number of players who would have otherwise completed their fourth year of eligibility in 2020? Presumably they have to - otherwise there will be minimal room for incoming freshmen.

Pro:
1. In 2021, how does the league adjust to what is essentially two drafts worth of rookies hitting training camps at the same time? An example is the Dolphins, who came out of the draft last month with 12 selections. They also have a high number of picks in the 2021 draft. Theoretically close to half of their players could be rookies on opening day. The play would already be sloppy after a year off, and with a massive infusion of rookies it might be more so.

2. Does the NFL begin experimenting with VR attendance versus having a rush back to stadiums?

After watching the 95 bowl rerun, 2 things are prevalent today, one, sorry Qb play and lousy blocking. Didn't score another point after the 13 minute mark of the third quarter. Well I should 3 things, a tired azz defense from being on the field basically the whole second half.
Didn't score a point in the next bowl game either against Zona.

By The Herbs count, we could of and should of played in 11 Natty games in about a 20 year time period.

How do u lose a game giving up 150 yes in total offense and u having double? Turn it over 5 times. As good as Testy was, he was a t.o. machine in bowl games.

Solar,
Your granddaughters ever play at Martha Rivers park or Ferguson Park?
I got u on that money deal. They think it means equal playing time and God forbid 2 players play the same position. One set of parents are sitting in one spot and the non starters in another, bitching about how much better their kid is than the kid that's starting.
Heard every excuse. I took the team I mentioned above over from another guy because he wasn't tough enough on them. The head of the organization said there were a bunch of whiners on the team. The first thing I told him, I ain't caudling nobody. The first thing I did was fire both my shortstops because neither could play the way I wanted them to. I always trained all my kids on infield and outfield. Our first warm up drill was me hitting them fly balls. Right, left, Line drives and over their head. U know putem on their horse. U played where u best helped the team.
Ain't nothing like winning them ships, no matter what age or grade. It maybe the only time u ever get to play for one.

 solarcane

herb,
I feel for you as a coach dealing with parents.
That is a tough thing to do and keep everyone happy. I bet it was plenty hard on your family too.
I went to two of my Granddaughter's high school softball games.

My Granddaughter at the time was an all State Sophomore on the State Championship team and was second on the entire team in HRs and RBIs.

Some of the fathers of older girls that were Juniors and Seniors bitched the whole games how they were tired of the hours and money they and their girls put into the team only to bat in the last inning or not at all.

I could understand their frustration, but I also noticed their daughters were wearing their State Championship rings.

My Granddaughter will be playing on her NC travel team this year maybe. I will let you know when they play near Gastonia and you can check them out. Shes getting some looks from bigger schools now.

The Word From The Herb

Solar,
Coached travel baseball for 10 years, man u talk about parents and their tudes! Had to have a meeting one time with the parents and lay down what I expected as a coach. One dad said "this sounds like a dictatorship" I said no, it's my way or u can take your son and leave.
These jokers were coming to me or making comments behind my back about where their son was better suited playing or talking about other kids and when I should make pitching changes. Cutthroats.
Team started off 3-7. I told them it would take 2 or 3 tournaments to figure out where I wanted kids to play. I even booted this women and her son from the team. From that point on we went 93-23 over the next 2.5 years.
Parents can be a headache if u let them. I get they panhandle for their kids, especially paying money to play but u have to perform or it's like the NFL, not for long!

Truer words were never spoken, thanks CG that my my entire point, the fake southern hospitality deal reeks.

My wife worked at a cabin rental place here for a couple years, the owners would talk like normal everyday people until out of state guests would check in.

Then it was that honey tongue "Oh my Lord, look at the little fella, bless his little heart", then when the guest walked out of the office the owner would say like,

"If that little bastard breaks the pool table or craps in the hot tub Cheryl you make damn sure you collect their deposit before they sneak out of here. "

You lived it, it you can vouch for it.

You guys are awesome.....this blog, all of us....could solve the countrys problems....in a room, round and round up and down.....but we KNOW how to give and take we can solve and work things out!.....and not get too personal....we get close....but not too bad!!

She taught me long ago the 3 hardest things for people to say are:
1. I was wrong
2. I am sorry
3. I love you

if ya think on it Little Kate (pet name for my mom Katherine) is spot on.
I grew up up north in NYC NY NJ Pittsburgh, Northern VA...then moved to SW VA at 11 or so....and I was the new kid in the rural area from up north....took some crap....til they found out I could play football like hell.....then later being in the country I developed an accent....and had more than one person make fun or mimick it.....I fought over it with dudes and cussed girls out....but that was my bad. I have learned over 61 years to just take it in stride....anything.....my son likes to call me alpha cause he says nothing bothers me....and I have learned now it does not....nothing can be so awful that i have to lash out now.....took a lot of listening...mainly to my folks!!!

We have some very smart wise people in this family....and all opinions count the same!!!

I roll through life with my wife kids and grandaughter and MI Law....coaching my guys doing appraisals getting out in the sticks....rocking out....the last of the all out rockers!!!!

I have a focus on my life....and I can still be kind to others help and add the kind word.....I do not have to give or take grief......cruising like I am 15.....thats what the wife says...she says I have matured some.....LOL!!!!!

Thank you Sir. I learned a long time ago that conflict is not always negative and in fact can be beneficial and produce positive and lasting results. "Listening" to the opposing points of view and repeating them takes away the "defensiveness" of trying to protect your position (or being "right") and moves you to a place that makes it comfortable (not threatening) for learning and understanding to occur and reasonable and fair outcomes to result.

It's all good in love and blogging!

soup to solar: "I just don't get you painting an entire people or region with such hatred. I think you may be a tad bit angry or hostile to many when the problem is a few?"

- soup, do you remember how you reacted to a couple of my very mild political posts? . . . among other things, you called me "self-righteous, self-centered, egotistical, & elitest"!

- you have never met me, but you know that i try to make my posts respectful (except a couple OGV disses, cause his troll'ness often goes over the line)
. . . so my feeling was that the hateful rant against me was basically because you've "painted an entire group of people", i guess the non-trump-worshippers, with a "hateful" brush; and now you simply saw me as "one of the others"
. . .which gave you permission to treat me disrespectfully

- was i wrong? is that not how you were feeling about me? and this particular "group"?

- remember these words of yours to solar: "I think you may be a tad bit angry or hostile to many when the problem is a few?"

. . . i'm thinkin' you might want to do a bit of self-reflection regarding those words

- for the record, i'm not dumping on you here
. . . i'm just saying we all need to be very careful whether we're throwing a stone at a glass window or at a mirror

alpine

soup, the two of us managed to get a 180° different feeling from reading solar's posts from (April 29, 2020 at 10:05 PM & April 29, 2020 at 11:34 PM) making it difficult for me to understand many of the statements you made to him, such as:

- "i don't get you painting an entire people/region with such hatred . . . why do you hate EVERYONE you live around"?

- "don't sit there on your computer and complain that you hate the place you live in and do nothing about it" . . . "you are NOT a tree. you can move" . . . but "if you feel moving back to FL will solve all of your transgressions you are very wrongly misled"

- a people/region hatefulness rant?! that's really not what his posts are
. . . his "rant" was truly an excellent explanation of his values and involved ZERO broad-brush painting; he definitely was clear on exactly what he despises & who he chooses to avoid

- lastly, these posts of his are VERY "solar'ish"; the values expressed are the same exact ones that he consistently shows us on CANESPACE!

- solar is so obviously solar: i imagine him living "who he is" whether in person or on-line
. . . like his name, he metaphorically shines his "light/warm rays" on all around him
. . . and that is NOT "doing nothing"; we need lots more solars in this world!!

I grew up in Hialeah. Believe it or not, in the early 70s it was ALL Florida crackers, most of which worked for the airlines.

For several years we were the only Cubans on my block.

Without exception all those families welcomed us to the neighborhood, especially the dads. My parents were divorced, so they always made sure to include me in so many fishing trips and baseball leagues their sons were involved in,

I for one grew up happy as could be surrounded by old school Gringos who worked with their hands all day.

I imagine that's why I've gotten "I can't believe you are Cuban" hundreds of times in my life. Their ways and how they comported themselves rubbed off on me in so many ways.

Just my two cents on the topic.

-----------------------------------------------------
This is just a little advice from a real friend

Dont make a list and rattle it off like you are an authority on a subject or conversation you feel the need to jump into.
You come off as arrogant when you list your opinions, just type them like you are talking to someone face to face unless you actually do say number one. blah blah blah number two. in informal conversations.

Do you ever really comprehend what you are reading before you jump on your white horse and explain how you know everything about a subject?
Why always rush in to give your opinion on subjects you know next to nothing about?
Its OK to not be the authority. Just let it slide my friend.

It just makes you look like you feel like you need to preach, when you could actually be 180 off the mark
Sometimes you make good points and other times you keep shooting when you should pass the ball.

Ok that was you and me talking as friends and no harm no foul

What real racism do you see on a daily basis in Orlando real estate? lol

I appreciate you explaining what I should do and how I should do it but actually I don't HATE everyone I HATE prejudice and racism,

Using the misguided logic you use in every argument you try to start with people on here think about this smarty pants:

you love everyone you say... so obviously when other people are treated horribly it doesn't bother you because man you just have that love going on, or you choose to pretend everyone you have ever met has charm and manners remember?

See what I am saying? You DONT love everybody Ive seen you get pissed at bullies. That doesn't wash you are not Jesus Christ... remember?

I love you dude but I really can make my own decisions and sleep well at night.

Now UM will add one or two more tackles or guards from a group including California-based three-star Anthony Rosas (UM is in his top eight), Texas-based tackle Savion Byrd (UM would love to land him and he says he’s serious about UM but has nearly 30 offers), Ocala three-star tackle Caleb Johnson, IMG Academy tackle JC Latham, California-based three-star guard Ross Maseuli and Georgia-based guard Terrence Ferguson.

Five-star Virginia based tackle Tristan Leigh remains the ultimate prize, but Miami is facing an uphill climb there.

What Herbsteet is hearing about the season from the big guns

▪ ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, speaking last week on the future of the college football season, said: “I’ve talked to actual decision makers in the college game, and I think what they’ve done is built three to four contingency plans based on what happens with this virus and what Dr. [Anthony] Fauci and others recommend.

“If everything is OK, status quo, show up on campus in July, two-a-days, regular season, here we go. That’s the first contingency. And then they go a all the way back to the second, third, fourth contingency, all the way to a willingness to start in late February or March and playing March, April and May and post season in June, which would be a last ditch effort which proves how willing the administrators are with the NCAA and ADs and presidents to have a college football season. They’ll do everything they can if it comes to that extreme to be able to potentially have a 2020 season.

“A lot of this is still being a feeling out process and we’re going to wait to see what the data shows. I’ll turn the TV on and I’m sure something new has happened as far as how to get a test for this and what makes the most sense in taking care of the athletes and don’t just send them back because we have to make our bottom line. Next time someone gets it and dies - can you imagine what happens if they hurry back and a player or coach or referee gets this virus and gets sick and dies? That’s something that they have to think about and they want to obviously avoid.”

Of a potential spring season, Herbstreit said: “Can you imagine that? How bizarre would that be? But it goes to show you how far we are willing to go to get our football. I think it would be weird to watch spring football. Like XFL - as a fan, a consumer, I have a really hard time getting into spring football. I like that it goes away in early February after the Super Bowl and love when it comes back in July for NFL training camps. But this is desperate measures. We’re all in uncharted waters, a world we’re trying to adjust to every day, being quarantined. If it means pushing it back to starting in December, January, February or March, then that’s what has to happen.

“What’ll be really interesting in the college game is if they go that far back, [with top prospects such as Clemson quarterback] Trevor Lawrence, do they play the season in the spring or opt to basically sit out because of their obvious status of being drafted? I have no idea about any of that, but it does make you wonder what some players at that level would do.”

news for Herb

(One quick on-field UM note: Though UM at one point was saving its final scholarship for Willie Moise, I would expect UM to reach out to Houston offensive lineman Jarrid Williams, who announced plans Wednesday to look elsewhere as a grad transfer. He was a two-year starter at right tackle for the Cougars -- playing with new UM quarterback D’Eriq King -- and was second-team preseason all-AAC last year before an injury ended his season after four games.)

Solar...I get your anger and your frustration.

1. I just don't get you painting an entire people or region with such hatred. I think you may be a tad bit angry or hostile to many when the problem is a few?

2. What % of the peple you live around are total losers and haters and what % are good people?

3. If you think 80% are bad you should move the hell away and do it tomorrow. Don't sit there on your computer and complain that you hate the place you live in and do nothing about it.

4. I LOVE THE PLACE I LIVE IN! I have no hatred for anyone I live around. Why do you hate EVERYONE you live around?

5. FINALLY You are NOT a tree. You can move.

6. And let me tell you something if you feel moving back to FLL will solve all of you transgressions you are very wrongly mislead.

You have never experienced deep south racism.
I never had until I moved to the deep south

It is a sneaky back hand remark, superior attitude, suspicious, fear of losing power, sickness, it makes you uncomfortable to be around.

We were both raised to see the good in people.

"The majority of Southerners I know demonstrate sweet Southern charm, polite manners like yes ma'am and no sir, respectful behaviors like thank you and you're welcome or opening doors for your elders."

Yea thats exactly how I felt when I lived in Ft Lauderdale and perceived all southern people to be a mix of The Marshall Tucker Band and Andy Griffith.
There are plenty of good southern people, there are plenty of good people from anywhere.
I am not worried about changing them or pointing out their weaknesses.

When I see people hating or suppressing other people because they look different, speak different, or were born somewhere else I will always point out bigots and prejudiced people.

I already tried to explain fake southern hospitality.
Sure a lot of folks are sincere down here, but its not because they are southern, its because they were brought up well in the south. They would be good people in Boston or New York city.
I am sure there is New York hospitality but it isn't regarded as folklore

VA Cane is one of my dearest friends on here, he is a "southern gentleman."
If VA was born in Utah he would still be a gentleman. It isnt where you were born, it IS how you were raised.

You are wise on a lot of subjects you have experience with soup. I have gotten some good advice on subjects you are knowledgeable about.

I don't think you have the 24/7 16 year life experience I have to really understand the day to day interaction that really happens in small town southern America
I can see situations here as an outsider not a relative, I can see both sides of things being discussed, I see the logic and the preconceived side of a lot of stuff that goes down.

The nature, terrain, and fresh air are impossible to top.
I have kayaked and fished with a lot of great folks here.
Unfortunately I have also done the same with bible thumping, meth selling, wife beating hypocrites. But not after I saw through them.

I think a person born and raised in a small southern town would find a lot to bitch about the people in Ft Lauderdale if he moved there also.

Ok I`m done taking up space on the space

Walterfootball and CBSSports.com are currently projecting Gregory Rousseau as a Top 10 draft choice in 2021.

Walterfootball is also projecting Brevin Jordan as a first rounder next year.

Good news. Hopefully, this is the case in April 2021. Their performance on the field this season will determine this

Thanks for clarifying. I understand better now.

You were talking about the ugly underside of racism or hatred. Not sure how prevalent that is but not going to question whether or not a small percentage of the population give the rest of "The South" a bad name.

The majority of Southerners I know demonstrate sweet Southern charm, polite manners like yes ma'am and no sir, respectful behaviors like thank you and you're welcome or opening doors for your elders.

I would also note the fact that not ALL Grand Dads or the way they did things were bad. Mine was a loving man from Texas who treated all people with respect and dignity. He played the banjo and harmonica and loved his family and his fellow man the same way.

My Dad was the same and a Catholic Christian man. He always told all of us "Bring all your friends into our home, they are ALL welcome. If they are hungry we will feed them" and we didn't have much to start with!

Just don't want to generalize to the extent that you paint with a broad brush an entire culture or region. I get that there are bad actors in every group, but I do not know that to be the majority of any group of people?

soup,
Ill try and give you a few examples of growing up in Ft Lauderdale for 50 years compared to living in a southern rural farming district.

I worked with a man named Jimmy Lee for about ten years,we became great friends.
We worked shoulder to shoulder ate lunch on the same tailgate every day.
He asked me to be his best man at his wedding,

When my wife and I went to the church my wife looked at me and said you know you and Jimmy have worked together for years and I never knew Jimmy Lee was a black man until today,

I told her it never occurred to me to mention what color
Jimmy was, he was just a guy that I could count on.
She told me of all my qualities, my color blindness was one of the things that made her most proud.

White County Georgia 2004.
Stuff I learned right off the bat.
The "colored people" in the county live over there in Bean Creek in colored town.

Theres that Catholic Church over on Hulsey road where they let the illegals sit in the same pew with white kids.

You can ride through Elijah and have a Klan member hand you a brochure on a street corner just like you see Shriners collect for children in Miami.

Wearing a Miami Hurricane hat in the family owned hardware store gets you that favorite you ain't from around here are you question.
Only Floridiots, and Floriturds wear Canes gear dude.

Bless his heart has duel meanings
Local born it means Bless His Heart
Otherwise it means the New York ass doesn't know what he is doing ,the Floridiot is trying to take over the state.

This just a tiny sample from the prejudice you deal with everyday.

Ill get into those damn Jews.
How my Grand daddy did it.
How Obama gave the country away in another post for another day.

You grew up in a multi race city and moved to a diverse population area soup. You were raised just like me to see people for their heart, not the color of their skin or the place their parents were born.

You know me very well and you know I don't tolerate racists or bullies.
I have met some folks born and raised in Georgia that are some of the finest peopleI know, but I have met people here that make me uncomfortable with the hate and suspicion they carry.
Thanks for letting me vent.

God and Republican in the same sentence that's something you don't see every day huh?

Just watched the Florida game it looks like we threw that game.
Having the lead in the 4th qtr and 4 or 5 gimmie chances and still choke Williams and Enos were poison.

Thanks for the props guys, you make my day on here.

I have no dog in the soup alpine deal, you both know I respect everything you post if I agree with it or not.
I like your humor as much or more than your sports knowledge.

When Kennedy was president his accent was so thick they made comedy albums about it while he was in office,he loved it.

When Ford was in office he had the unfortunate luck to fall down in public. Saturday Night Live would do skits about it all the time.
He and Chevy Chase became friends as a result.

George W had the knack to say WTF? things almost daily, he still makes fun of himself and laughs about it today. Mrs. Obama has said he is a warm hearted man that truly loves his country and they are very close.

Trump has a tendency to blurt out his thoughts in public, rather than measure his words before he speaks.
This makes for sure fire late night TV.
The difference between Trump and those other Presidents is Trump lashes out and calls names at people that make fun of him, he can not laugh at himself. This just magnifies the incident.

The people that backed the other presidents never took the humour as personal insults on themselves, we were Americans before we were red or blue.

Someday the country will heal medically and hopefully politically and just maybe we can poke fun at the head man without our own friends taking it personally.

VA cane thanks. Oden has really improved. He now weighs 6 lb 4 oz, no more CPAC over his nose. Eyes open and look like he weighs more, arms and legs filing out moving around a lot. He is going to make it. Thanks for all the prayers.

Thought of you today when my friend sent me a video. Google Toby keith don't let the old man in
He asked Clent Eastwood how he can make a movie at his age of 88. He said I don't let the old man in. This is for us older Canes fans.I have something in commonn with Clent because I have never let the old man in either. Comming up on 78 and will never let him in. I don't think you Tom and others old guys on her will either. It is worth listing to him tell the story and then sing Don't don't let the old man in.
God bless all of you
