This Corona Virus situation has all of wondering when, and if, life will go back to normal again. We all are asking when will sports events, concerts and other types of public gatherings become totally acceptable again?
We are wondering when can ordinary people begin to act "ordinary" again.
So that led me to think about a little known song by a little known rock group named Triumph. You may have never heard of them but they had several good songs. And "Ordinary Man" is definitely one of those.
The song goes a little something like this:
Look in the mirror tell me what do you see
Or can you lie to yourself like you're lyin' to me
Do you fall asleep real easy feelin' justified and right
Or do you wake up feelin' empty in the middle of the night
You want to think you're different, but you know you never can
You're just another ordinary man
But it goes on to question many of those we put in charge of this mess and ask about their intentions and motives. While we need to make sure we protect the vulnerable and save lives, Triumph asks who can we trust with those decisions?
Hey politicians, can't believe a word you say
Almighty media, whose truth d'you serve today?
Watchdog of justice, who keeps their eye on you?
Con man, song in hand, who you singin' to?
The more I get to see, the less I understand
I'm just another ordinary man
Ordinary man
Ordinary man
Just another ordinary man
Comes a time to take a stand
With the current "social distancing" situation and "stay safe at home" policies firmly in place all across this great Country the question becomes how long and for what reasons can these draconian public restrictions stay in place.
In these difficult times we often look to the politicians and the media for news and guidance and direction. Triumph would say this...
No rest for the wicked - they get it while they can
The preachers and the teachers and your local Congressman
Everybody plays the game they played since time began
Lawyers and accountant - your media man
Everybody's talkin' but nothin's gettin' said
You're looking for the truth you better look inside your head
I see the flash of lightnin'
I hear the thunder roll
A hungry knife, a slice of life
It cuts another soul
Power finds a way to those who take a stand
Stand up ordinary man
On Easter Sunday we believers look to God and religion to help us see the light. And for Christians all around the world we confessed our faith in the fact that Jesus is risen and our sins are forgiven. We absolutely believe that.
Still, we look at the current situation challenged by daily events and wonder...
Once I thought the truth was gonna set me free
But now I feel the chains of its responsibility
I will not be a puppet I cannot play it safe
I'll give myself away with a blind and simple faith
I'm just the same as you I just do the best I can
That's the only answer... for an ordinary man
In the end, it is up to each individual, and all of us, to make the right choices and decisions that will possibly impact our health today and our lives forever. I am not here to tell you what to do but to consider what your options are.
Because in the end it probably all comes down to this:
No such thing as easy answers
You play to win and you take your chances
Here's to health, here's to wealth
May you never doubt yourself

From SI
The creation and mass circulation of a vaccine normally takes 12–18 months, doctors say. Former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb predicted that the U.S. economy will be 80% of itself until efforts at creating a vaccine are successful—and that will directly impact sports. “There are things that are not coming back,” Gottlieb said last week on CBS’s Face the Nation. “People are not going to crowd into conferences. They’re not going to crowd into arenas … and we need to accept that

Well said Harry. continued prayers for your young man! I read one of your responses to my wife, I hope you are ok with that. Being a great mom, she was visibly moved. We wish continued progress, success and positive results for your family.
Solar thinking of you in the deep south hope you and family and neighbors are ok.
I am certain that ALL the people we elect....no party just people...all of them...did not take heed to early warnings...yes we still would have struggled...but might have avoided more death and discomfort. It is insight to a system that is failing and lagging and has been for a long time...for all of us! Our leaders are wrapped up in greed and bloating their bank accounts...not doing the peoples will. This is Him telling us to wake up....and correct so much failure from the people we THINK can lead. Again no party...people. We must all think....and VOTE for good people....we have such poor leadership. They sidetrack us with minor spats that cover their incompetence, lies and veiled shadows and as we chew on the small things they spout, they line their and their pals pockets....and we foot the bill....no party, just people!
May God be with each of you...in a positive way! He is risen....and we can always depend on him for shelter from life's storms. All the best to each of you!

We will beat this thing sooner than later. After that China needs to pay dearly for what they have done.
Even their latest act, locking down what could be hugely important medical research in an effort to continue the charade of lies their leadership has rained down on the world from day one, is disgusting.
My prediction is in the next 5 years we will see a massive shift away from them, especially in fields like medicine and products like phones and computers, where our intellectual property has been ravaged for years

I don't know about that. I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than continually disappointed. Unlike Han Solo ("never tell me the odds') I'd rather know the odds both good and bad.
I'll tell you this much, I'm more of an optimist than you are for the long term. I don't think chaos and anarchy will reign. I think we'll adapt to whatever comes, probably in increments, probably in surprising ways.
We certainly survived the last pandemic (1918 Spanish flu ... 675,000 American dead out of a population that's one third the size of our current one).
There's still a lot that's unknown, a lot that's being worked out and experimented on. As answers are uncovered, I think things will improve.
In the meantime, I'll lean toward Vince Lombardi's thinking "Hope is not a strategy, fear is not an option." Hard work and determination will win out. Our enemy may evolve, but it can't outwork and outthink us.

1. Don't get it twisted, sister. I did not say that was my prediction for the future, I said that my prediction is that things will get back to normal SOONER that later, not 12-18 months when we have a vaccine as you quoted in the interview. If you think that average Joe is going to sit at home for 12-18 months with no job and nothing to do and that the federal govt (read our taxes) is going to keep paying everybody for that long then you have another thing coming.
2. Agree 100%. At least until a vaccine is created and produced and administered we need treatment drugs to lesson the severity of the infection and the symptoms of the virus. With around 12 drugs already in clinical trials this will hapeen sooner than later, maybe in the next 30 days or so. That will allow a return to normalcy WAY before we have a vaccine.
3. Agree 100%. We have the will, the way and the ability to overcome this and we will, SOONER than later. OTHERWISE you get chaos and anarchy which is what NONE of us want, right?

Without fast and accurate testing or a miracle vaccine ... No.
The combination of relatively high infection rates from aerosolized droplets containing the virus combined with hard-hitting physical activity and you're asking for trouble. Imagine all the yelling and intense exhalations from being hit or even hitting the ground. Some hospitals have started to limit the time doing chest compressions for CoVid patients needing CPR because of the risk of spewing viral particles into the air.
As for testing ... right before each game and conceivably before every practice there could be a test-in, like a boxing weigh-in.
The problem becomes if starters test positive and have to be held out, you'll need some significant depth. Games would be a bit like player roulette

Here's Dr. Fauci on the playing baseball this year
"Nobody comes to the stadium. Put them in big hotels, wherever you want to play. Keep them well surveilled … but have them tested, like, every week. And make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family. Just let them play their season out.”

solar: sorry the european continent sent too much rain your way; had only 1 1/2 days of light rain here the last 3+ weeks and i'm getting tired of spending tons of time each evening watering the garden . . . so many differnt kings of beautiful wild flowers in our lawn i wind up being a softy and watering that too
sports: having a hard time caring about past & future right now
. . . just interested in getting the clear info of when a season can actually start
. . . and like many others, i have the feeling it'll be later than sooner (even if they TRY to start earlier)
. . . but like skool, i'm real willing to be surprised

. . . if all goes well, they will soon allow larger ones to open
- traffic slowly picking up (yuck)
. . . i'm realising, that despite the inconvenience we all have to put up with and the VERY serious health & financial issues many are grappling with, i'm gonna be sorry to lose that lazy, sunday feeling

Posted by: Old Skool | April 15, 2020 at 02:28 PM
There you go again!
You could just have easily said: WITH fast and accurate testing and with anti-viral teatments approved and a miracle vaccine...YES!
But you didn't have it in you, did you? You look for problems and claim "There it is", but you do NOT seek solutions. Here are some things I suggest that you consider:
1. Over 12 anti-viral medications that are already in clinical trials hold the greatest hope for a quick re-opening of the job market and sports arenas.
2. Around 97% of people are not going to die from this virus right now no matter what and IF anti-viral teatments can reduce that to well under 1% life will return as normal SOONER than later and well BEFORE a vaccine. Anti-viral drugs (if successful, have hope) will reduce the severity of sypmtoms, increase recovery time and eliminate many hospitalizations in most cases except in the most severe cases or succeptable people.
3. Most healthy people under 65 are not going to go to the hospital or be on an incubator or die from this virus. As has already been demonstrated they will get sick and recover.
4. If the economy opens and sports events are open for those under 55 (80% of all fans except here on Canespace LOL) then it could very well happen this Fall.
5. Please in your next comment quote the number of people who have had COVID-19 and recovered already. Can't wait to see it!
6. IF you are advocating is that we shut everything down until a vaccine is available and that is 12-18 months then I disagree.
7. If the people out of work stay out of work for more than 6 months, or 12 months, or 18 months the world will end as we know it. I ain't ready for or going to support that.

“Whoa Nelly” to quote Keith Jackson
My comment was in response to whether there was going to be a college football season. My point was that impacts whether from players hitting one another, hitting the ground or from hands compressing a chest will likely expel viral particles from the lungs faster, further and in greater numbers than every day non-impact activities. Consequently, greater precautions or a vaccine must be in place before football is played.
Point taken about the negative framing. I guess I’m a contrarian or at least good at playing devil’s advocate, although I don’t short stock.
Perhaps I should have added the word ‘treatments’. There is no cure or vaccine for AIDS, but treatments are keeping it under control.
Still bringing up the economy, clinical trials, death rates, recovery rates, unemployment rates, demographic breakdowns as well as shutting everything down in response to what is essentially a yes-no question (Will there be a college football season in the fall?) is piling on …15 yards for unblogsmanlike conduct – turning a memo into a manifesto.

- on the one hand, too much shut-down/shut-in definitely increases risks of depression, domestic violence, suicides
. . . obviously if the economy totally collapses, these and other types of problems multiply
- that said, the usa is still woefully unprepared to deal with this pandemic as far as medical supplies and testing capacity and it's far too early to have any type of optimism regarding 2020 sports . . .
- there is also more & more info coming out that seems to point at this virus attacking many different organs ... problems not just with the lungs, but also with the heart, kidney, liver, digestive system are being reported . . . meaing both death reports and later damage to those who get sick from the virus might be worse than we think
. . . we need more time, so that science can fill in more of the blanks
which is a shame; nothing i want more than to see coach L field a real team after finally having enough time to get off the canvas from the knock-out blows of the NCAA & FBI (hoping for a little trash talk with aero & nemo!)
. . . not to mention the excitement around our football team
. . . i'm even interested in seeing whether or not katie meier can get the shyt-show of a woman's bb-team moving forward again
instead, it's probably gonna be groundhog day for quite a while, with more cases reported, with more deaths, in more places, with help "just around the corner", etc.

good day all, hope all are well.
One of the benefits of no sports...if there is one...is not having to listen to some of the talking heads. I can live without Skip Bayless and his fake stances and takes and Shannon Sharpes Mushmouth and love of Lebron 4ever! Same for whip Colin Cowherd. Golic Golic and Wingo are idiots as is Whimp Greenberg....but I quit listening to them a good while ago.
Thay being said, I am worried for football. I like racing, but with Earnhardt 3 gone since 01, I have curtailed my watching a lot...Daytona Talledega Darlington Bristol are great tracks....but Earnhardt was the last cowboy....so I check in.
Baseball too slow too long....NBA is a horrible sissy girls game.....I never was big on it....but other than a few good players...the rest are horrible compared with the past stars.....who are most of them...nobody.
Looks kinda grim for football.....I just do not know what will happen....I am dying thinking of it...talking to my young guys and college kids a lot...they are worried too! I love it....my blood cells are shaped like little brown oval footballs....but I want everyone in USA to be safe to start living normal again....waiting game eh?
Lets keep chatting and hoping for good things....we will survive and be whole again...prayer...and positive vibrations Mon (tip o da hat to Bob and Rohan...miss Bob love Rohan!)
I am bz appraising...lender just called wants water4front inspection on Lake Gaston in VA/NC...working on 3 others so I can be out...in the3 wilds!!....thinking of Herbie finding them in the territories...and Soup listing and showing them!!! you guys would love the wilds of VA!!!!! LOL

alpine...welcome back my friend!
Thanks for posting that info. I am willing to be the % of people that were exposed to it, contacted it had minor or no symptoms, is 10-100 times that number. If it is as contagious as they say it is every grocery store worker, most in retail, most food service workers, most gas station employees and almost everyone at Disney, Universal, LegoLand, Sea World and every other hospitality, entertainment or sports facility was exposed. That doesn't even count those in the transportation (planes, trains, buses, taxis and Uber and Lyft) industry.
In the end the ratio % of those people exposed who were significantly impacted will be very low.
