NEW BLOG IS UP!

CGNC

Happy Thursday Peeps.

Old Skool

Well This could get interesting ...

Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson threatened a teamwide boycott of the FSU football program after Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell said he spoke with each player individually about racial injustice, a claim Wilson denies.

2. Other teams have done more with less and we have done less with more. Not so happy about that.

1. We also have to quit playing down to the comp. All these close games in the ACC and it doesn't matter who we play. Play to win, not to lose.

1. To me this comes down to three things: coaching, preparation and play calling. We used to attack the other teams weakest link early in the game and be up by 14 at the half. Now we save plays for later in the game when we trail by 10.

Yes, Yes, and Yes... It's time we went into EVERY game with a "take-no-prisoners" attitude like Canes greats of the past. (The teams that caused the NCAA to change rules against us). We're here to kick your a$$es, and we're NOT going to be shy about it, or apologize for executing our game plans for 60 minutes, or until you show you can stop us.

2. Away games is another albetros of ours. We use to rule opponents home field.

3. The system is now there for them to succeed, offensively. It only took 10 years of screaming for them to hear us.

2. I have been to many away games when we always won. WTF changed? Attitude and again the ATTACK mentality. Take the crowd OUT of the game, not keep them in. Stupid is as stupid does.

3. We screamed so LOUD they had to change. Another win for the FANS, who BTW know nothing. But that's a story for another day.

Miami just landed Jacolby George, 4 star WR. This brings the Canes total number of players ranked at 4 or 5 stars up to 6. Miami now moves up to 11th on the 2021 Team Rankings at 247 Sports.

HerbieIbis

Soup,
Hence the comparison, if we could get Taylor and Collins to Kennedy and Maryland.
When we were good we had a solid Dee Line, especially DT.
Coaching cohesion is another must. Dabo has at least 5 or 6 of his coaches have been with him close to his entire tenure.
In recruiting, they aren't really killing it in their own state. I think last year, they had one recruit from the state, a coaches son.
We also have to quit playing down to the comp. All these close games in the ACC and it doesn't matter who we play.
Play to win, not to lose.
Away games is another albetros of ours. We use to rule opponents home field.
The talent is there to roll through the coastal, they just have to get over the hump of the big game. Learn how to win those again and we should start to roll again.
The system is now there for them to succeed, offensively. It only took 10 years of screaming for them to hear us.
Cruits, some of the big ones, are just waiting for us to explode and then a majority will think twice about bolting.
Winning the ACC is the easiest route to the final 4 of any power 5 conference's. Yes there's Clemson but there is no gauntlet of having to play Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida and Tex. A&M. TENN. might be on the way back.
We face nothing like that. Our tough games are teams that I would liken to Miss.St, Miss. And S.C. Good solid teams but at best 8-4 maybe 9-3 on really good years.

Great post
It’s sad to say but our qb and DL positions have been weak at best over the years - time to change that - if manny doesn’t eff it up, this will be a good year

86Cane

That should move us up to 12 or 13 in the rankings.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | June 03, 2020 at 05:08 PM

Couple of things:

1. Being in the top 15 recruiting class rankings is very good (surprising?) given our on the field performance last year. Happy about that.

2. Other teams have done more with less and we have done less with more. Not so happy about that.

3. It comes down to coaching, scheme, play calling, proper utilization of players skill sets, buy in by players, leadership and motivation on the team, etc. to do more collectively as a team than what the players are individually.

4. If we can win some games in 2020, assuming they will be played, it would seem that a top 10 class would be easy to achieve. We all know who the top 5 are going to be in recruiting until things change, but the next 5-10 teams in recruiting may have the best shot at winning it all every now and then.

5. It mostly comes down to the QB position and the D Line. Those are the two places the best teams have dominated in in the passing era we are watching in all of football at all levels.

HerbieIbis

Good news but still have a long way to go for the 4 stars to pass all the 3 stars. That should move us up to 12 or 13 in the rankings.

AeroCane

Great news

Miami now holds a commitment from one of South Florida's top playmakers.

Plantation four-star wide receiver Jacolby George confirmed via text on Wednesday that he has committed to Miami.

George, who the industry-generated 247Sports Composite pegs as the nation's No. 34 wideout this cycle, was also considering Penn State, Georgia Tech and Indiana amongst others.

The Herb

Could be.

Good info from SMD...

Nice article.

Could be a Cortez/Russell type duo.

Easy there big guy!

HerbieIbis

Amen Aero on getting Leonard Taylor. Man him and Collins at DT's, look out. Could be a Cortez/Russell type duo.

The biggest problem with the WR'S has been their route running. This has been an ongoing problem, that needs to get fixed. It seems like they always have someone in their hip pocket on every catch. What good is all that speed, if u can't run routes properly.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | June 02, 2020 at 03:48 PM

Hopefully Likens will teach the WRs route running and getting open

Hopefully we can have a miracle and get Leonard Taylor at DL

Since we aren’t playing and losing, I still have hope! Lol

HerbieIbis

A couple of things about the blitzing, if the DT'S can get pressure up the middle, then we wouldn't have to blitz as much. Shannon didn't blitz alot when Miami was dominating. Aside from Willis, we haven't had a great DT since Wilfork.

Offensive line shouldn't be that much of an albetros with the new offense but can they run block.

Per bill Connelly of ESPN - odds of getting to the championship- 18 teams and the U is #18 with 5 IFs
Here are the five ‘ifs’ Miami needs to go their way in order to contend for a championship in 2020, according to Connelly.

1. If D’Eriq King + Rhett Lashlee = explosions… “In this vision, King throws for 4,000 and rushes for 1,250, and Miami becomes must-watch again.”

2. If the negative plays slow down dramatically… “The Canes were 105th in stuff rate allowed, 121st in sack rate allowed and a ghastly 129th in havoc rate allowed.”

3. If the wideouts can actually beat man coverage at some point… “Miami's top returning wideouts -- Mike Harley, Dee Wiggins and Mark Pope -- averaged 7.7, 14.1 and 10 yards per target against zone coverage last year. Against man coverage: 6.1, 3.1 and 6.0. Any modern, title-caliber offense needs guys who can punish defenses when they switch from zone to man to account for RPOs.”

4. If another great defensive end emerges… “Gregory Rousseau emerged out of nowhere to become a dominant DE in head coach Manny Diaz's system. (It's not the first time that's happened.) But Rousseau is the only returnee among last year's top five tacklers up front. Can Temple transfer Quincy Roche immediately dominate?”

5. If blitz downs are less disastrous… “Miami was a bit too all-or-nothing defensively, ranking 10th in blitz down sack rates but 101st in blitz down success rate.”

Glad to see The Space is still here as it should be.

This season has way too much potential to be special to shut her down now.

CGNC

Speaking of being smart (maybe you already know this):
Michael Pinckney hasn't signed yet as an undrafted free agent and wants to complete rehab first.

CGNC

Mrs. VA - tell VA to get back on here LOL, it is an order from CGNC-Pa LOL. You are welcome to come on here and blog with us :-)

86 - Glad this will continue even if on a month to month basis

AeroCane

I think we may see some recruiting news this week - hopefully good news for the canes but we will see

roachcane77

Yeah. It's great having a high APR, and being recognized for it!🙌🏼

That will help with recruiting, especially with PARENTS, who want their kids to graduate.

But, WINNING on the field is what will REALLY make the difference!

And don't worry SOUP, this blog will COME ALIVE once season gets nearer!!! Practices, depth charts, interviews, videos... THAT'S when our base get's fired up!

Let's Go CANES!🙌🏼

The Herb

It's the pandemic. No sports going on. Not much to say unless it's about a little recruiting.
No politics and music or the fire bombs, looting, rioting and marching. I mean that's it. It's like the world is a stand still.
I guess some ventured off when u were going to shut it down but they'll be back, especially when things get back to normal.
I wished we had someone on here in had some inside info.
Whatever happened to Ohio and Papacane?

86Cane

Thanks for allowing us at least another month because The Herb always has something to say, me and my boy Aero been holding it down.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 31, 2020 at 10:00 PM

FACT! But I can't keep a blog going for two good bloggers.

HerbieIbis

Thanks Soup for all u do. Know it has to be a pain sometimes trying to keep us happy and in line But we all, well most need this fix and u have given us a platform that we as Die hard Canes fans need. I don't get to see many games, in person but I don't miss any on The Boob Tube.
Wish I was close enough to The Rock to come to the games But I'm here, stick like Chuck in Tarheel land. No matter The Herb is as die hard, as die hard can get. Top things off, I started off a Bama fan in my youth through my early 20's but when the Bear retired and ultimately passed away about a month later, it's like my affection died with his passing.
So for 38 years it's been Nuttin but DA Canes.
Thanks for allowing us at least another month because The Herb always has something to say, me and my boy Aero been holding it down.

If this is indeed the very last day of the blog, I want to say goodbye to all of you who made this site great.

Tnank you 86/Soup/Tom for your time, effort, knowledge, humour and common sense to keep this thing afloat and interesting for so many years.

I wish it would go on, but having run a sports fan site myself (which I gladly handed over to the next guy after 12 years), I can see all the reasons why Soup came to the point where he decided to let it go.

I'm a avid non-user of FB / Twiter /Insta & Co., so this is it for me. I'll be missing this site and the great people who made me think, made me wiser or made me laugh out loud. To all those who mostly brought hate and bitterness: It's never too late to get a life.

Love & peace & stay safe everybody - greetings from Germany!

There it is right there.

We will continue to the end of June and take it from there on a month to month basis.

VACane no hard feelings. I have screwed up more than most on here, you are forgiven for the outburst. We all have them. Be safe, be well!

AeroCane

Feel well herbieibis and I hope it’s good news

TheHappyHerbster

Aero, say it ain't so! The blog continues on? YESSSSSSSS!!! Thank Jesus!
I just forgot about the pain in my heel. Thankfully June 10th can't get here quick enough. Getting this SOB scoped. Won't know what it's like to not limp.

HerbieIbis

Smart in the class room needs to translate on the field, especially dumb penalties.
