Honestly, I'd have to rate Ken Dorsey the top one based on how key of a role he played to Hurricanes football from the end of the 1999 season through 2002.
Posted by: TonyCane | May 16, 2020 at 02:07 PM
So i'm watching the 1992 FSU game and Michael Barrow killed Eric Vanover, that was like the 3rd time they tried that slant pattern. And Barrow was all like "Not today Satan" and sent Vanover back to HELL!!!
Posted by: IraqiCane | May 16, 2020 at 02:58 PM
Walsh lost one game in 2 years and that was a BS call against the Irish, although I think he threw 3 or 4 picks that game. Dude had ice water in dem veins.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 16, 2020 at 07:18 PM
So this is where I am at with Walsh:
He didn't have the strongest arm.
He wasn't very athletic or elusive.
He was not the most charasmatic dude.
But they played to his strengths, allowed him to stay within his abilities and he led and he won. And won like crazy with the players he had around him.
It is not like we have never seen this before. Been there, done that. Bernie was basically the same but a bit more of a firey leader. He never had the arm that Testaverde or Torretta had.
This is the model we should have been trying to re-create over the last DECADE with our just slightly above or below QBs. But our coaches and coordinators just could never get it, could they?
Posted by: 86Cane | May 16, 2020 at 07:29 PM
Vanover got pasted, decleated and vaporized by Barrow. Don't think he was ever the same

With 86’s top 25
Who could cover our receivers?
Who could tackle/catch our RB’s?
What receiver would want to go deep with reed and Taylor?
Who could run against us with our front 7?
What receiver would want to try going over the middle? Laughable - our LB would crush them!
What mismatches with our TE’s?
WOW
Great top 25 86!
I keep that exact list with 4 changes:
I switch Vinny with Jim Kelly
I replace Greg Olson with Ted Hendricks
I replace gore with oj Anderson
I replace Reggie Wayne with Eddie brown

I can lose Olsen for Hendricks.
Gore vs OJ is a toss up.
No way I lose Wayne for Brown. #NFL
Other than that I am good.

Ranking him at #9 is woefully low? Being in the top 10 of top 25 players is woefully low?
Seriously?

Its so hard to pick top 10 as there were so many ........ would love to see a few current canes make this list in a few years ....
Posted by: raizecane | May 17, 2020 at 12:01 PM
4-real,
U hadn't been around in like forever.
QB's dropping like flies, that Miami was after. 3 more this weekend off the board. Davis commits to Auburn this morning.
Unless they can get Milroe to flip from Texas or some late bloomer, it looks like the portal again.

There are really so many ways to rank players. Here are just a few criteria that popped into mind:
Most talented
Greatest contribution to UM
Games won
Championships won
NFL career
Biggest hits
All Americans
All Conference
Award Winners

Just like I thought: Worthless.

Anybody read the free article on Inside the U about ‘speed kills’ and it goes thru position by position
Any thoughts?
I wasn’t overly impressed but they didn’t compare it to other similar positions at other schools, so who knows.
Be well my Cane friends

I love it
No one could compete with this group!
Posted by: AeroCane | May 18, 2020 at 02:34 PM
What no Moss, Hester, Hendrix or Blades?
No Feagles or Baxa?
The legends of flop brothers.
Soup,
I like Bernie but he's a little to high on your list.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 18, 2020 at 02:40 PM
Aero,
We got speed. Top end speed, might be a little different.
Looks like those last 11 or 12 slots in the recruiting class may be dicey, with adding upper end talent. Have to play this season, to make believers out of these fools. U figure by us going spread we would already have at least 2 to 3 wr's locked in but we have zip.
Last year we already had 4 decomits at WR.

Posted by: 86Cane | May 18, 2020 at 11:23 AM
Now you're talking!
Kosar was the toughest, most clutch, bad ass baller we have ever had at QB.
Without him who knows what happens with this program.

I wanted to ADD Hester but beyond being the best returner in the history of the world he did little else.
Ted Hendricks desrves to be in the top 10 on the list but he played so long ago most people here never saw him play so it is irrelvant to the under 50 crowd.
I agree Bennie Blades deserves to be on the list somewhere in the top 20. Who do I take out to put him in?
Posted by: 86Cane | May 18, 2020 at 07:17 PM
I know Bernie is ranked too high but I had to try to make pb happy so well there is that! LOL
Bernie and Kelly should probably be flipped? Or Bernie and Dorsey?
Posted by: 86Cane | May 18, 2020 at 07:18 PM
A name to remember, Ryan Downes, QB at IMG. The kid is just finishing 8th grade. 6'4 and 200 Lb's. Has 3 offers already. Also plays lacrosse.
4.3 GPA.
Miami needs to start sniffing his jock strap now.
Yeah Soup, it is a tough call to pull someone off the list and to think, the last 15 years, aside from Olsen and Calias Campbell, Duke and Hester, there is not much to mention, well one more Wilfork.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 18, 2020 at 08:17 PM
Calais Campbell
Duke Johnson
Jaquan Johnson
Good names to consider?

I agree - duke was wonderful but never showed up in big games and is not top 25
Jaquan - love him but too 25 - nope
Posted by: AeroCane | May 19, 2020 at 02:32 PM
Yes neither Duke Johnson, Jaquan Johnson ever made All-American status, neither was a first round draft pick. and neither has had a stellar NFL career thus far.

That is great news about Bubba Bolden! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Per inside the U
Quote from king
Note - if we don’t win, manny is fired! Lol
“The alumni put pressure on the current players and coaches to win and I kind of like that,” King said. “A part of me going there is because I knew it was a must-win this year. We have to do good for everybody to keep their jobs.”

Yeah, I guess he was pretty good.
Posted by: 86Cane | May 19, 2020 at 04:21 PM
Ted Hendricks is a must. You young guys missed one of our greatest defensive end of all time. At 6'7
218 lb "The Stork" played in 1966 thru 1968 was two
time all american in 67 & 68 and second team in 66.
I watched him play every game he played in at home.
He should be in the Top 5 in my opinion.
Posted by: Harry Miller | May 19, 2020 at 08:14 PM
I guess that means those last few recruits will be waiting a minute to see if we do win, Enough!
There really are no excuses. We got enough juice. The only question is the interior on defense and the oh line.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 19, 2020 at 08:39 PM
