Looks like I may be the last one here and talking to no one...

Tom: If this is indeed the end of the line, I’d like to THANK YOU for all your efforts and wonderful blog articles throughout the years. Your opinions and voice will most assuredly be missed by the Canespace Family and the entire multiverse of Canedom. I know there was a lot of frustration and anger when it seemed like people skipped over the articles you spent so much time writing. But many read and enjoyed the articles and many appreciated the sacrifices you made to provide new content as often as you did. It’s an unfortunate fact of life that positive reinforcement of harder to come by than negative. That’s human nature I guess.

I recall when SOUP first started asking The Legion on Omar’s old blog about a brand new site called Canespace. Feels like yesterday. We’ve grown older (but not up!). I’ll be forever thankful for the friends I feel like I have because of Canespace and our brief but enjoyable meeting at Jerryworld - let’s NOT mention that game though!

I can be reached at: kehinton@gmail.com

That’s for anyone interested.

I’ll miss this crew. But hope to run into some or most of you on other sites. I doubt there’ll be a home like Canespace though. Too many handles to mention all, but to the old-timers like Solar and CGNC - PEACE!

Tom - give my best to your lovely bride. She sure has put up with a lot from you the past 15 years. She must be an angel. Hope we stay in touch - I ran into a chum with a bottle of rum and wound up drinking all night...

Fair winds and following seas... GO CANES!

NEW BLOG IS UP!

AeroCane

Good morning canespace friends! ... remembering those who sacrificed it all for our country today!

AeroCane

Lol
Yep

HerbieIbis

Sounds good.
I guess it's me and u Aero, holding down Canespace until the end. I guess everyone else has flipped to crackbook, oh I mean facebook.

AeroCane

PS Morgan was one of my tougher decisions
How bout barrow as my top back up for the middle and Morgan my top back up for outside LB

AeroCane

Got to have a season and got to show offensive firepower - the coaches need to make it ‘fun’ and we need to score!
The rest should fall into place
IMO

HerbieIbis

Yeah,
Those 2 are forecast to verb to Da U. That should be it for awhile unless Sager commits sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Unless things change, we will still be missing a bunch of studs in the area.
Marshall, Taylor, Lewis has verbed to the Vols and Brooke's to Bama. Brinson looks like an Aggieland verb. Kinchins we still have a prayer. They keep saying that Collins will flip to the Turds. That's a lot of potential fire power maybe going down the drain. I was hoping these mama's would want to keep their baby's at home with this virus but unless something changes we ain't getting none of them and we still don't have a Qb. I think I read where we offered 20 qb's or more and we are ofer.

The Herb

Aero,
No way u can leave Dan Morgan off the Lb's 2 deep.

AeroCane

So I did a variation of 86’s top 25
I basically did my 2 deep team and I would bet it against any other all time college team anytime anyplace (this is for fun so t sully, please don’t blow a gasket if you disagree)

AeroCane

As best as me and my family can. Thx 86
Speedy recovery herb and everyone be well!

Harry Miller

It's not that bad sense I work from home any way.
I just have to be careful when I go out because of my age. Watched all the old Hurricane games. I am a NASCAR fan, So I am glad to see the races. Going to be able to play golf now.

Tom, need a call from you.if you can.

HerbieIbis

Good,
Except having surgery to get rid of this dam bothersome plantar fascitis and MRI on my shoulder but it could be worse, so thankful. Hope everyone is doing A-OKAY!

86Cane

How are all of the members of the Canespace Family holding up out there?

Harry Miller

you are right AeroCane I sold drinks when I was in High school (Miami High ) 1957-60 to get into the Orange Bowl to watch him play. Another UM sports Hall of fame inductee in 1972.He also played some linebacker. Another Cane in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

AeroCane

Herb
Understood
Hoping the coaches use their imagination and get it done
Heck put him on a track scholie lol

HerbieIbis

Yeah Aero, it would be a good pick up. The only problem I have, it's a ship we have to use going forward. It would count towards the 2021 class. Is it worth it for a maybe? We need some big time WR's in this coming class. Have some big ones on the hook, we just need to reel them. Same goes for CB. These guys that are supposed to be stars, need to shine this year and don't do like Garvin did and take a powder. Hopefully Manny is weeding out these guys that play hard when they feel like it because of the talent behind them is not pushing them.

AeroCane

Jarrid Williams getting close to a decision - a huge get for the canes if they can pull it out.
He would be a great 1 yr LT gap until Isaiah comes into play. In 2021, Isaiah at LT and Rivers at RT
Our best combo in a very long time IMO

AeroCane

The other key ‘older cane’ - Jim Otto!
Before my time, similar to the stork but a legend

Harry Miller

For some of you young guys. Glad to see some of you moving Ted Hendricks up.

He was an academic All American, went to Hialeah,
In the running for Heisman Trophy 5th in 1968.
Averaged 109 tackles per season.
Played linebacker in pro's from 1969-83 with Colts, Packers and Raiders. Members of 4 winning Super Bowl teams. Inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame. Named as one of 12 linebackers to the NFL's 100-Year All-Time Team.

HerbieIbis

NAH Soup, he threw 5 ints. I mean he must of got paid off. Bad play, audible! Plus it was an even year. We only win Natty's in odd years and get ripped in the even ones.

roachcane77

Hendricks was added at #4 and Bennie Blades added at #19. Frank Gore and Reggie Wayne are out, Olsen moved down to #23 Ray Lewis moved down to #7. Dorsey and Sapp moved UP.

I would bump Olsen out and replace him with Ottis Anderson. (Olsen played much better in the NFL then he did for the U.)
Why OJ Anderson? Hey, I'm old, and saw him excel on teams that weren't very deep... Also, he was in a few of my classes at The U.🙌🏼😊
Chuck Foreman was awesome at that time as well, but got "missused" as a flanker instead of the great running back that he was. (And proved so in the NFL...)

TJL

#1 should be Chris Rix

AeroCane

I went to too many games to list but growing up I remember 3 in particular-
• This Oklahoma game - we were in awe and just stayed after in the stadium enjoying the moment
• the 1988 FSU game - Bowden has lost control of the team with Deion sanders and Sammy smith and they were ranked #1 (I think) and we destroyed them!
• 3rd - I was about 9, it was early 70’s and it was the Norte Dame game - we get to the stadium and my dad asks - ‘where do you want to sit?’ Lol
Again, there are so many more, but those 3 always pop in my head

86Cane

Here we go, let's rock and roll!

The dude choked in bowl games.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 20, 2020 at 12:23 AM

Wrong again mister.

Play calling ruined that game.

Highsmith said "Let's run the ball."

They didn't.

The play call to the TE was all wrong that was the only player PSU LBs could cover. The fade to the corner of the end zone or the run up the middle were the winning tickets.

But they never got punched.

The 1986 team IMHO was the best ever except for 2001. They never got their just reward but we all know how good they were.

HerbieIbis

The Herb couldn't put Testy in the top 25 even though he was a HTW. The dude choked in bowl games.

AeroCane

I guess that means those last few recruits will be waiting a minute to see if we do win, Enough!
There really are no excuses. We got enough juice. The only question is the interior on defense and the oh line.

Harry Miller

Ted Hendricks is a must. You young guys missed one of our greatest defensive end of all time. At 6'7
218 lb "The Stork" played in 1966 thru 1968 was two
time all american in 67 & 68 and second team in 66.
I watched him play every game he played in at home.
He should be in the Top 5 in my opinion.

86Cane

Dude was swag before anyone of us even knew what it was.

Yeah, I guess he was pretty good.

AeroCane

Per inside the U
Quote from king
Note - if we don’t win, manny is fired! Lol

“The alumni put pressure on the current players and coaches to win and I kind of like that,” King said. “A part of me going there is because I knew it was a must-win this year. We have to do good for everybody to keep their jobs.”

IraqiCane

That is great news about Bubba Bolden! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

IraqiCane

Yes neither Duke Johnson, Jaquan Johnson ever made All-American status, neither was a first round draft pick. and neither has had a stellar NFL career thus far.

AeroCane

Iraqi
I agree - duke was wonderful but never showed up in big games and is not top 25
Jaquan - love him but too 25 - nope

IraqiCane

Calais Campbell
Duke Johnson
Jaquan Johnson

Good names to consider?

I would say only Calais Campbell.

AeroCane

Per Banda, it appears bubba bolden is ready to go! Great news as IMO he is an upgrade from hall and Carter but those 3 can be very good

A name to remember, Ryan Downes, QB at IMG. The kid is just finishing 8th grade. 6'4 and 200 Lb's. Has 3 offers already. Also plays lacrosse.
4.3 GPA.
Miami needs to start sniffing his jock strap now.

Yeah Soup, it is a tough call to pull someone off the list and to think, the last 15 years, aside from Olsen and Calias Campbell, Duke and Hester, there is not much to mention, well one more Wilfork.

86Cane

I know Bernie is ranked too high but I had to try to make pb happy so well there is that! LOL

Bernie and Kelly should probably be flipped? Or Bernie and Dorsey?

86Cane

What no Moss, Hester, Hendrix or Blades?
No Feagles or Baxa?
The legends of flop brothers.
Soup,
I like Bernie but he's a little to high on your list.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 18, 2020 at 02:40 PM

I wanted to ADD Hester but beyond being the best returner in the history of the world he did little else.

Ted Hendricks desrves to be in the top 10 on the list but he played so long ago most people here never saw him play so it is irrelvant to the under 50 crowd.

I agree Bennie Blades deserves to be on the list somewhere in the top 20. Who do I take out to put him in?

pb

Posted by: 86Cane | May 18, 2020 at 11:23 AM

Now you're talking!

Kosar was the toughest, most clutch, bad ass baller we have ever had at QB.

Without him who knows what happens with this program.

HerbieIbis

Aero,
We got speed. Top end speed, might be a little different.
Looks like those last 11 or 12 slots in the recruiting class may be dicey, with adding upper end talent. Have to play this season, to make believers out of these fools. U figure by us going spread we would already have at least 2 to 3 wr's locked in but we have zip.
Last year we already had 4 decomits at WR.

HerbieIbis

What no Moss, Hester, Hendrix or Blades?
No Feagles or Baxa?
The legends of flop brothers.
Soup,
I like Bernie but he's a little to high on your list.

AeroCane

I love it
No one could compete with this group!

86Cane

I reworked the order of my top 25 list. Tell me what you think?

25. Andre Johnson
24. Jonathan Vilma
23. Frank Gore
22. Bryant McKinnie
21. Reggie Wayne
20. Michael Irvin
19. Greg Olsen
18. Jeremy Shockey
17. Ken Dorsey
16. Vinny Testaverde

AeroCane

Anybody read the free article on Inside the U about ‘speed kills’ and it goes thru position by position
Any thoughts?
I wasn’t overly impressed but they didn’t compare it to other similar positions at other schools, so who knows.
Be well my Cane friends

Just like I thought: Worthless.

86Cane

There are really so many ways to rank players. Here are just a few criteria that popped into mind:

Most talented
Greatest contribution to UM
Games won
Championships won
NFL career
Biggest hits
All Americans
All Conference
Award Winners

HerbieIbis

4-real,
U hadn't been around in like forever.

QB's dropping like flies, that Miami was after. 3 more this weekend off the board. Davis commits to Auburn this morning.
Unless they can get Milroe to flip from Texas or some late bloomer, it looks like the portal again.

raizecane

Its so hard to pick top 10 as there were so many ........ would love to see a few current canes make this list in a few years ....

Let him. We have Tyler Van Dominant waiting in the wings.

86Cane

We all know our top 25 could beat anybody else's top 25 any day of the week and twice on Saturday!

86Cane

Great top 25 86!
I keep that exact list with 4 changes:
I switch Vinny with Jim Kelly
I replace Greg Olson with Ted Hendricks
I replace gore with oj Anderson
I replace Reggie Wayne with Eddie brown
JMO

Posted by: AeroCane | May 16, 2020 at 11:44 PM

I can lose Olsen for Hendricks.

Gore vs OJ is a toss up.

No way I lose Wayne for Brown. #NFL

Other than that I am good.

AeroCane

With 86’s top 25
Who could cover our receivers?
Who could tackle/catch our RB’s?
What receiver would want to go deep with reed and Taylor?
Who could run against us with our front 7?
What receiver would want to try going over the middle? Laughable - our LB would crush them!
What mismatches with our TE’s?
WOW
Great top 25 86!
I keep that exact list with 4 changes:
I switch Vinny with Jim Kelly

Vanover got pasted, decleated and vaporized by Barrow. Don't think he was ever the same

86Cane

Dude had ice water in dem veins.

Posted by: HerbieIbis | May 16, 2020 at 07:18 PM

So this is where I am at with Walsh:

He didn't have the strongest arm.

He wasn't very athletic or elusive.

He was not the most charasmatic dude.

But they played to his strengths, allowed him to stay within his abilities and he led and he won. And won like crazy with the players he had around him.

It is not like we have never seen this before. Been there, done that. Bernie was basically the same but a bit more of a firey leader. He never had the arm that Testaverde or Torretta had.

This is the model we should have been trying to re-create over the last DECADE with our just slightly above or below QBs. But our coaches and coordinators just could never get it, could they?

86Cane

And Barrow was all like "Not today Satan" and sent Vanover back to HELL!!!

Posted by: IraqiCane | May 16, 2020 at 02:58 PM

I like it! U should write an article for Canespace?

UMike too? Don't forget buddy!

HerbieIbis

Walsh lost one game in 2 years and that was a BS call against the Irish, although I think he threw 3 or 4 picks that game. Dude had ice water in dem veins.

IraqiCane

So i'm watching the 1992 FSU game and Michael Barrow killed Eric Vanover, that was like the 3rd time they tried that slant pattern. And Barrow was all like "Not today Satan" and sent Vanover back to HELL!!!

TonyCane

Honestly, I'd have to rate Ken Dorsey the top one based on how key of a role he played to Hurricanes football from the end of the 1999 season through 2002.
