So after a definitely successful, if not quite awe inspiring, first game victory over UAB last Saturday, your University of Miami Hurricanes are about to really find out what they are about this season.
The Canes will kick it up a notch when they face the Louisville Cardinals this comming Saturday at 7:30 pm. It is time to man up, hopefully unleash the beast and see what this team is made of in 2020.
According to some "expert fans" (seen above), Louisville has the type of "talent" that could give Miami problems. So that leads us to the following questions:
- Were the Hurricanes just playing "possum" with UAB?
- Does UM have a lot more to show against the Cardinals this Saturday?
- Was Miami "just setting something up" by laying low against UAB?
- Will Miami "open up the offense" or is there any more to show?
- Is the UM defense really made of swiss cheese or were they just out there fooling around?
Only time will tell, but the answers will most certainly come soon.
Is Manny going to be "The Man" or is he just another guy?
Stay tuned, the spotlight is soon to shed light on the answer to this question.
Uno. Game Day is going to be there, so hopefully we look good

No possum.
No poison Ivey
No go to WR
Didn't need to open up the play book, since we ran up their guts.
We got to hit some seams.
Love to see WR catch a ball in space and run. See highlights every week of other teams WR'S running open but not ours.

If that's Louisville's backfield, I'll watch the game more closely. I'd love to see them in motion.

King overthrew an attempt where the target had gotten a step past the corner but the safety was still on an angle to at least try and force the guy out of bounds. This offense has to hit a few of those sooner rather than later to keep the rushing component chugging because just the threat of going over the top isn't going to open up the secondary enough on its own, actual completions are going to have to be the reason the other team stays honest pre-snap.

Good BJ article in the Herald about the UAB game. The combination of coach quotes and individual play counts is very revealing

I think it's just that our WRs are sensitive towards the defenders' feelings and don't want them to feel lonely or sad if they actually ran away from them and left them all alone on the field without an escort so they stick tight to their defenders out of respect.

dont get me wrong, i dont think we r number 17 good. i just dont think we are as abysmal as some toxic fans who talks in the 3rd person thinks we are. and like i said, been ranked makes me nervous.
also, i watched the UAB game against central Arky. UAB played like a seasoned power 5 team. and no, not because they were playing central Arky, but i looked at their horses and athletism. they were legit.they have 2 pass rushers transfer from power 5 teams, one from forida, so is their top wide receivers. and they return seniors. i think we looked descent, not excellent or elite. but of course, according to canespace, the sky is falling. i also watched the deville game. they played like last year, and like a MMA fighter with no cardio, they gassed out at the later half of the 3rd quarter and let the other team in. and they didnt play a miami level opponent either.
reason i think we r ranked though might be because there r 2 conferences not playing. so i guess we benefited. and the SEC hasnt even started play yet. so.....

maybe its only me, i think the old sort alignment is better. its a little confusing with new at the top. will just have to get use to it.

Im hearing Christian Williams is in the portal

You are hearing correct and why not- Ivey who sucks is starting ahead of him and we all know rumph can’t coach or recruit!
Keeping rumph is a huge negative on manny’s resume
Posted by: AeroCane | September 15, 2020 at 03:50 PM
Say what, William's in the portal. Well, if true now we have 5 CB's. Don't blame the dude, starting that stiff Ivey over him.
Rumph is just not a recruiter, Patke ain't much better.
Better get the butter out, because we may be getting toasted in the secondary.
Posted by: The Herb | September 15, 2020 at 08:38 PM
If I was behind Ivey and not starting I would leave too. These coaches don't have a clue about talent and technique or earning your position. Manny is to blame. He is not an administrator.
Posted by: 58 Straight | September 15, 2020 at 09:29 PM
look, you all might have points to attack manny about. but i will be careful to slander him. lest we forget, 2 off season running, hes made wholesale tough, and needed changes. its the first game, lets see what happens with ivey going forward. but shouldnt we be blaming williams for not been able to beat out ivey? JS!!!
Posted by: AfriCane | September 15, 2020 at 10:33 PM
He made enough changes to take a winning team and turn them into a losing team.
Don't plan the parade route for that just yet, unless you're crafting the dunce hat for it, just saying . . .
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | September 15, 2020 at 11:23 PM
Revisionist history? He turned us into a loosing team? Isn’t that y we forced out coach Richt? Would we have a different coach if Richt was winning like the ACCC year?
We can have a parade if u r willing to drive the moat.
Posted by: AfriCane | September 16, 2020 at 08:20 AM
Check the abs out on those 2 cheerleaders. Cut like blades!
Not going to jam on Manny, Yet!
Dude did what he had to do in the off season to supposedly make the team better. Only 4 spring practices and this Covid crap. It will take a minute to get the train rolling smoothly. We still need a few more pieces but the only team on paper on our schedule out talenting us is Clemson. With this 10 game schedule I expect at least 8 wins, if not 9.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | September 16, 2020 at 09:06 AM
Afri
We all disliked and wanted richt gone as most of us Knew from the hire he was the wrong guy BUT his last season in 2018 he was 7-6 and manny came in and had our first losing season in a long long time at 6-7.
Manny made all the right moves on the offensive side but DID not address the defensive side - baker has proven nothing, Patke and rumph are jokes. He should of made all the changes but because he didn’t, when we fail this year (hopefully not) he can blame it on the Dee and make changes and save his job for another year.
Bottom line: he does not hold players accountable, and did not make important changes he needed on the defensive side of the ball!
With that said, go Canes and whoop Louisville’s ass!
Posted by: AeroCane | September 16, 2020 at 09:06 AM
Speaking of changes, they need to make some to the transfer portal.
The only time during the season a kid should be able to jump in the portal, is when he has appeared in 4 games and feels like he either isn't getting the game reps he deserves or if he wants to protect a year of play. This jumping after one game is BS.
We have been living on the edge with CB numbers for at least 5 years.

Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | September 16, 2020 at 09:35 AM
Big 10 reverses course and wants to play six weeks from now but only eight games to try and salvage Ohio State's season and some bowl money.
West coast bias against itself now is the only one left out along with some group of five leagues who didn't have the gusto to go for it, making them the leader of a group of six nobody wants to head up.
If solar was around, this would qualify as irony, to be sure.

You are correct. I removed the chump comment. I stand behind the rest of the comment.
Posted by: 58 Straight | September 16, 2020 at 03:04 PM
I get it that Rumph is a bad recruiter but can someone PLEASE explain that if Rumph is in fact a bad coach how brining in Ed Reed would not help that situation? Either in identifying and fixing what is wrong or in saying to Manny that Rumph must go?
And why is Rumph a bad recruiter and coach? What do you think are the root causes of those TWO very different things?
I said it when he was hired that Patke wasa terrible decision and that there was no way he was qualified for or deserved that position. Nothing has happened to prove me wrong.
Baker I have no opinion on one way or the other. Time will tell. Just watch the games over the next three weeks and we will know for sure.
Posted by: 58 Straight | September 16, 2020 at 03:09 PM
Look, honestly, the nancies (r we still calling them that) usually r the first to identify issues. I will give u that. But r we calling it as they happen, or r we also expecting negative outcomes and then be quick to call them as they happen. My point here is, how much is picking at everything and how much is is having skillful insight and understanding of the game and therefore pointing out legit points. Not every coach is going hit on everything that should be done. And we were all here during the off-season in awe of the moves Manny was making. The General Take was that he was hitting it out of the park, including recruiting.
I’m in no way saying it’s ok not to tighten up the defense. But r other power 5 power houses without issues? Just saying that I would give all this 4 games before i’i give up the baby for adoption.’ Afterall Manny knows what he needs to do on defense.

45-24 is my Louisville score
I just can’t figure out who scores 45. I sure hope it’s the CANES!!
Posted by: AeroCane | September 17, 2020 at 11:06 AM
With these spread offenses, u are not to going hold teams down all night long especially if they throw 35 to 40 times a game and u have a jack rabbit for a Qb.
Our front 4 are above average, the Lb's probably average, our DB's (safeties are above average) but our CB's or what's left of them are a little below average. Need a strong rush to protect that weakness. Striker, I would say above average.
As far as the score 34-24. If our passing ain't any better, we will be on the wrong side of that score but then again, if we run anywhere like we did last week, well that score looks golden.

King missed a few chances on the zone read to keep it to break outside for a huge gain instead of send the back into the line inside for a small one.
Louisville runs the three down front and the nose tackle maxes out at a whopping 286 pounds allegedly. UAB's four down front had tackles at allegedly 290 and 335 pounds each. Run for another 300 yards plus and win the game that way, Jordan was out last year against the Cardinals but he'll be on their scouting report near the top of the priorities so we'll see if he can abuse the defense if he gets Rice in coverage on him. Nickle back assigned to him is probably an automatic catch every time it happens so they're not going to have much answer for two tight end personnel for UM.

Excellent analysis
But can baker and the D stop them?
Posted by: AeroCane | September 18, 2020 at 10:01 AM
They did enough last year, with fans in the stadium. This year it seems like there's a high premium so far on teams that can self motivate due to the attendance restrictions or outright bans. If they're up for the game they'll be able to win but Louisville is going to be motivated after the spanking last season right before Miami tanked the rest of the year so we'll see what kind of fire the peter principle over promoted coordinator can get lit under them. Becton is gone from last year and the line depth is down offensively for them so it's going to be a tough match-up again this year after they had their lunch money stolen in '19 by a more talented defensive line corps, even with trading Phillips for Rousseau.
Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | September 18, 2020 at 11:50 AM
Orange, again, nice
I just have no confidence in baker! It seems pretty clear to everyone who watches that bolden is far better than cooper, yet Cooper plays over him; maybe Cooper should move to striker!
Also, we love slow, plodding LB’s
Every time brooks plays, he’s around the ball, making plays and McLeod (in his 5 year) still doesn’t get it but they act like he’s ray Lewis! Ivey, enough said!
So let’s hope they get it right because I’m sticking with my score of 45-24
Let’s just hope it the Canes with the 45! Go King!
