Funny how the voters see us as better than our own fans.

That is ironic more than it is funny, but yes I get your point and agree 100%. Don't know what they saw that we didn't see, and we were looking for it and they weren't. Now that is funny!

orange 'n green in the vein

Even funnier how the poll voters consider Louisville better than they, and some homer fans, seem to consider Miami but the homer fans ignore mention of that fact . . .

AfriCane

guys! i see it this way!
clemson werent world beaters either. their score was similar to ours at 37-13. Louisville r not very good, just jitter bugs. we r going to score on them. defense just needs to make them one dimensional as a passing team. and florida state,....well!! i'm just nervous that we r ranked. funny how the voters see us as better than our own fans.

1. When did this become such a lost cause or forgotten defensive technique. Back in the day NOBODY ran outside on the Canes. Rohan even said in his famous quote here on Da Space: "You set the edge with your inside shoulder and turn the run back inside to 11 angry men!"

2. Agree 100%. He needs to be moved to the striker position or safety he can't cover worth a lick.

Da Keys to beating Da Ville.
Continue to run. It's obvious our WR's have gorilla glue stuck to their back as in the DB's are wearing them like a cheap suit.

Canes brothers

We got a QB
Nice RBs
Good TEs
Capable WRs
OL maybe improving
Real OC

Defense has to work on misdirection = seems like that is a forever Canes D issue
Louisville does a lot of this and QB got some wheels

Let’s hope disciplined D makes them earn their points

God’s blessings to all of you!

VS Louisville
My keys:
• DE’s need to keep their qb in the pocket and harass him all night
• need some inside pressure from the DT’s
• play brooks more
• play smith at striker more
• play Ivey LESS or none at all
• throw the ball on rpo more
• get the ball to Jordan - a lot
• fire rumph
• fire Patke
• just some thoughts

I have a proposal for you.

How about we come out early focused, strong and executing?

How about we score first?

How about we make something happen on special teams?

How about we block and tackle?

How about we throw passes 20 yards or more down field?

If the NEW offense was in hiding on purpose during UAB and they unleash it against Da Ville I will be happily surprised. If not, then well, you know. Time will tell.

roachcane77

Yeah... Disappointing to say the least. UAB TOTALLY shot themselves in the foot with missed opportunities and penalties. We could have EASILY lost that game and be 0-1 right now.

Just shows again that a 6 touchdown scrimmage against our OWN players doesn't always show we have a great offense... just an exploitable defense.

Hope to see improvement in game two, and more "creative" play calling.

CGNC

AeroCane

After reading these last posts, I think we are all on the same page!
I do think more needs to be talked about manny’s total lack of accountability for the players - we saw it a lot last year, and we already saw it in game 1 and that’s very scary to me
The best coaches would of pulled him, screamed at him and sat him down, even if for 1 play
Manny needs to step up in this area imo

CoCane

As for coaching...

I won't knock Likens or Justice for what he inherited...
Lashlee's play calling was suspect but what can you do with a OL that can't pass protect, a rusty QB and WR's that can't get open?
DL is in good hands...
We need a real CB coach. Rumph Rumph ain't it...
Patke ain't it either. We need a real LB and ST coach...
Baker and Manny still gets too cute with blitzes. Rush 4 drop 7 in coverage and let your athletes make plays. Duh...
Finally, walk ons getting meaningful snaps is so annoying. Manny still plays favorites. Starting guys over better options will cost Manny dearly in game and in recruiting...

Overall, I expected sloppy play. We'll see a lot of this around CF the first few weeks because of no spring and not enough practice reps in the off season...
Team discipline looked improved. Only 3 penalties...

All we can do is hope it gets better 🤷🏿‍♂️

CoCane

Yooo... It's been a while Legion
Here's my POV of game 1

QB- King has elite running ability but passes like Nosier 😩
RB- The most talented position group on the team.
WR- 🗑💩
TE- Jordan and Mallory. The 2nd best position group and they were barely used 🙄
OL- Pass protection still sucks. Run blocking clearly better but still can't muscle short yard situations
DT- Nesta looks good. Why is Ford starting? Miller is clearly better. All of the other DT look better then Ford...
DE- Porche, Phillips and the youngsters held their own but Rousseau will be missed in big games...
LB- 🗑💩 Just play the youngsters and take the lumps...
Striker- 😩🤷🏿‍♂️
Safety- We're good here. Start Bolden over Carter
CB- Is there truly no one better then Ivey? He f*cking sucks.
Special teams- no complaints other then Pope's fumble

orange 'n green in the vein

King has only played five games in the last year and had to iron out the wrinkles with an almost completely new cast against probably the best team in their respective conference. But he picked up in the second half right where he left off and averaged almost seven yards a rush despite two sacks dragging the average down.

He'll be ok as long as he doesn't get injured against the better defenses coming up and I already want him to come back for another year due to the NCAA eligibility rule not counting this season against the clock of five to play four.

Kicker isn't a choke artist now, that's worth a close win right there so now find a dependable returner like Osborn last year and that's a net positive.

Defense is going to have to get better fast but has enough pieces to keep them in every game. Offensive line can't be worse than last year but is going to be what sinks the season if things go wrong, at least they're in shape enough to run enough plays to be in it during the fourth quarter when they have to play the first to 40 game against Clemson with reduced fans there later this year.

Looks like they're going to miss a transfer from Buffalo more than even Greg Rousseau at this rate in 2020, how does that even happen?

HerbieIbis

Rpo's teams run will make sacks somewhat hard to come by. Coverage sacks or blitzes but unless our CB'S tighten up them coverage sacks will be few and far between.

CGNC

Aero, I don't know, like 86 said not alot seemed different. Second half definitely better than the first. But it looked like King had to take off and run for his life way too often. They need to hit some open receivers so the defense backs off, or we won't be winning much.

OGV I am all for leaving Blake James on the Dolphin Expressway.

Best part of the game: Seeing Ed Reed prowling the sidelines

After evaluating last night:

• king is overrated OR he was nervous and rushing things and will get better?
POSSIBLY (but a 5th year sr shouldn’t be nervous after the 1st series)

• we have become a running team OR the OL can't pass block? MAYBE BOTH?

• we have become a poor passing team OR we have become a poor passing team?

• D.J. Ivey is terrible OR he is awkward, clumsy and has terrible technique?
LOL

• We will miss Rousseau terribly OR the DL has enough pass rush with Roche and Phillips and we will be fine? DEPTH and as good as Phillips and Roche are its hard to replace a 6’7 top 10 draft pick

• Manny Diaz still holds no one accountable
OR he could have used the opportunity to call a time out on the first 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty of the season, called the whole team over to the bench and told them: "Anyone who commits a stupid, selfish penalty that costs the team 15 yards will be benched until I feel like he is ready to go back into the game. Any questions?" I AGREE and PISSED AT THIS

Time will tell. YES but after game 1 I have my doubts - and as I’ve said before - I HOPE IM WRONG; again, as I’ve said before, 3-1 after 4 games or I’m 100% off the Manny bandwagon!

AeroCane

The man
I agree and wow that makes too much sense

THE MAN

Why do people pretend that the offense was "holding back" so the future teams don't see what they can do? How about just go kick the crap out of an inferior team by 50 points and dare the future teams to stop you? This same tired excuse has been going around in the beginning of the season for 15 years.

Herb to see that our WR's still can't get open and our Oh line is still weak in pass blocking.
Ivey and Blades are average corners and thank Jesus we have a Qb that can use his feet.

OR
• Lashlee was simply taking what the D was giving him and trying not to show too much to Louisville
• our D line will step up
• Ivey will be replaced or improve LOL
• after a year and 1 game, manny will become the coach we want (and actually hold players accountable for their actions)
Blah blah blah

The Herb

Saw only 2nd at. Plus 1st drive of 2nd half but it was enough for The Herb to see that our WR's still can't get open and our Oh line is still weak in pass blocking.
Ivey and Blades are average corners and thank Jesus we have a Qb that can use his feet.

Harry Miller

The first game didn't look as good as I was hoping.
Let's hope they get it together this week at practice this coming week. If they don't we are going to get beaten by a very good Louisville team, they have a very good QB and will score on our defense, The defense better be ready.

Miami's offence will need to score and not pass up touchdowns when they are there to be had or Louisville will put a loss on us that will hurt.

I hope Manny takes any player that makes a stupid
personal foul out of the game instantly and let dumb ass sit on the beach for a while.

Lol 86, not a fan of the three straight runs??? #ghostofmarkricht

Posted by: CGNC | September 10, 2020 at 11:30 PM

I saw nothing different tonight from last year other than up tempo and a new QB who still misses wide open receivers and an OL who still can't block. IMHO play calling still sucks and fools nobody, not even the casual fan.

Defense tightened up but they were atrocious in the early going. Punter and FG kicker are the strongest positions on the team. That is not a winning combination from where I stand. The defense looked lost on many plays.

I am sure they were just setting something up (we have heard that before) but the lack of discipline on the team is disgarceful. U get a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty AFTER the play and coach leaves you in? Not a chance in Hell on my team!

orange 'n green in the vein

Also, don't book it just yet but that might be the only game UAB loses in the regular season this year assuming they get them all in as scheduled. WKU at home will be a test for them and the road schedule is very manageable.

AeroCane

It’s just me but I hated seeing king shaking hands and talking with the other team without his mask on

CGNC

Lol 86, not a fan of the three straight runs??? #ghostofmarkricht

orange 'n green in the vein

Win tonight brings Diaz to 4-3 off a straight up loss.

Could be worse, could have no season this year.

58 Straight

They did it again. Three straight. I know that they want to see who can block on second team but it is ugly football. Fans don't like it.

CGNC

Hi all! The first half was not great. Second half better. Not enough use of the tight ends for me. We will be missing Rousseau against better teams. It’s a win, I’ll take it.

AeroCane

I pressed done too soon lol
Fun and winning / winning and fun equates to getting the better recruits

AeroCane

Agree 86
I’ve said it over and over - in the college game it’s not only about winning, but winning fun! 3 stupid runs is not fun

58 Straight

Coaches have no clue how to keep fans engaged and excited about attending games. Same old stuff.

orange 'n green in the vein

The offense won't change next week, you're seeing probably around 75% of the playbook tonight, premium is going to be on execution and there's plenty they can squeeze out of it there based on tonight.

58 Straight

So see this is why fans don't like to go to games. You have a great chance to have fun and score again but you run the running back into the line three straight times and punt. That just makes you want to go to the parking lot.

AeroCane

2 advantages we have: a few extra days to heal some nicks and bruises and they say that the biggest positive increase in play is between game 1 and game 2

AeroCane

I sure hope our O opens up against UL next week or we might not get to 24 because I’m making the assumption UL is better than UAB

Killerbeez41

Amari Carter just tackled Gilbert Grierson and hurt him. The bad thing is they both play D and for the same team. WTH Carter, tackle a UAB player jeez. Run his pockets boys, we have a ringer!!!

58 Straight

One more score!

orange 'n green in the vein

Marginal targeting call here. Probably will stand.

58 Straight

Need a turnover chain Right now. Not a targeting call. Let's see how it turns out?

58 Straight

Aero...unless we play better defense and have a more consistent passing game it will be a great challenge to beat UL.

AeroCane

86
Next game may be 35-24 and at this time I think it’s Louisville with the 35
I HOPE IM WRONG

58 Straight

Maybe 34-13 was the right score after all? At least close enough? Next game I am going 17-14.

orange 'n green in the vein

Starting to dust off the rust for King.

Get the backups some burn in the fourth for depth and get a lot better for week two to avoid getting drawn into a shootout.

58 Straight

First game,at home, new coordinator, no fireworks. Playing down to the competition as usual. Just setting something up?

AeroCane

Best pass play of the game to Jordan!

AeroCane

It goes back to what 86 and I said earlier / he holds no one accountable
Let’s hope I’m wrong on all accounts!

58 Straight

It seems like there offensive line actually blocks defenders? And our defense looks like swiss cheese?

AeroCane

Agree with you both
Manny doesn’t have the IT factor! We saw it last year but gave him a reprieve for it being year 1 but wow he sucks UNLESS something changes dramatically

orange 'n green in the vein

Halftime adjustments.

Fake Lames should be fired and left in shame on the Dolphin Expressway.

58 Straight

Total suckage. Embarrassing to say the least. The fat lady is well, you know...

58 Straight

He is not much better, just doesn't suck as bad as the others. Simple flip to the end zone, couldn't handle it. He is not like the guys at Clemson or UNC. At least in the first game, so far. We will give him some time but he will need to up his game big time if we are to have any chance.

58 Straight

And how is that possible I ask U? Same old routes and NO separation from the D?

orange 'n green in the vein

Good news, I hit the under 26 1/2 halftime points.

Bad news, got to get over 56 points for the game total.

The really bad news? Halftime adjustments will decide if this is a blowout or a game late in the fourth quarter and Bill Clark is light years better than the nepotism over promoted peter principle coordinator hire at that. Only so much talent gap those can cover for though.

AeroCane

As of now, we have NO passing game at all

Lol # 8 on Dee as well
