One tradition that we have established here at Canespace over the last thirteen years is that each year, when Fall practice starts and before the season begins, we ask bloggers to select their personal choices for what we like to call "Legends of the Fall".
This tradition actually started when CGNC, who is without a doubt a legend herself here on Canespace, started a series of player features with the same title. Years ago she wrote features about former UM players QB Kenny Dorsey and TE Jeremy Shockey and called them "Legends of the Fall".
In our fan selection process true "Legends of the Fall" are those players who the fans feel will have outstanding or "breakout" season for the Canes on offense and defense this year.
It's not about simply picking the Hurricanes' best players, but your personal favorites among the UM players apart from the usual suspects and most obvious stars. Some bloggers choose first or second year players who are likely to break on the scene as freshmen or sophomores.
Former winners include LB Sean Spence and WR Aldarius Johnson (seen above) and QB Jacory Harris and DL Allen Bailey. Other winners were WR Leonard Hankerson and CB Brandon Harris. Then there was RB Lamar Miller and RB Duke Johnson and LB Denzel Perryman.
There are your unusual selections and surprises like kicker, punter and lead body slammer Matt Bosher (seen below) who happened to be the Canes 2008 MVP. Hwas a beast on special teams, but who woulda thunk it?
Other bloggers are more traditional or conservative in their picks and select juniors or seniors who are projected to finally have that one incredible breakout season that leads them to become a high round NFL draft selection.
These picks could really be any defensive or offensive player who may be primed to explode on the scene after a solid previous season or a spectacular Summer. Offensive and defensive linemen may not be popular or sexy picks but they are just as eligible as any other position player.
And don't forget special teams standouts too who can change a game with that one big play that shifts the entire momentum of a game. Some bold predictions even result in selections of completely unexpected dark horse candidates for this honor like Sam Shields a few years ago. If these long-shot picks actually play out, the blogger who picked them look like an absolute genius. This is the most risky, but potentially most rewarding, approach of all.
Then again if you decide to take a leap of faith on a player and they don't ball out like you might have hoped or expected then you might wind up like old time blogger Cat5 who selected LB Arthur Brown or SolarCane who selected WR Thearon Collier and then well, you know what happened then.
It's your choice. Here are the 2020 LOF rules:
- Pick one player on offense
- Pick one player on defense.
- Pick one freshman for "Freshman Impact Player of the Year".
- Pick one assistant coach or coordinator for "Coach of the Year".
And remember: U gotta be in it to win it!

https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29814164/ranking-acc-25-best-college-football-players-2020
Well, well, well, what do we have here?
"25. Brevin Jordan
Last season, Jordan showed why he is one of the best tight ends in the nation, finishing as a Mackey Award finalist and first-team All-ACC selection. He's got great size but also great athleticism, following in the great tight end tradition at the U. This should be his best year yet."
"21. Quincy Roche
Roche transferred in from Temple, where he had 137 total tackles, 39.5 tackles for loss and 26 sacks in three seasons. Miami lost its best pass-rusher in Gregory Rousseau, who chose to opt out of the season, but having Roche in the fold means the Hurricanes believe they can continue putting pressure on the quarterback at a high level."
"20. D'Eriq King
Miami has been looking for a standout at quarterback for years now, and the Hurricanes believe they have their answer in versatile, dual-threat King, a transfer from Houston who put up big numbers during his time with the Cougars. He had 78 total touchdowns during his time there, with 6,346 yards of total offense. If he can do the same in Miami, watch out."
Whose cornflakes did the gold-hen-girl-loser-for-life-against-the-primary-rival-dude piss in the last few seasons? Media used to ride her jock constantly until the early entry exposed her as nothing special at all.

Few interesting factoids from the new ESPN article on Frank Gore
Gore has had 18 starting quarterbacks, 10 offensive coordinators and seven head coaches. Though he never won a rushing title and never was named first-team All-Pro, Gore is considered a strong candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Gore, who has produced more rushing yards (6,508) by any player in NFL history after his 30th birthday.

"Former winners include LB Sean Spence and WR Aldarius Johnson (seen above)"
Uh, Andre Johnson (seen above) is not Aldarius Johnson? 13 of these mean eventually something was going to go wrong in the blob though so I'm not begrudging this mistake . . .

'Twas the night before kickoff, when all through the U
Not a pundit was stirring, they had not a clue;
The blue chips were stacked, put together with care,
In hopes that a championship soon would be there;
The players were grinding, lifting weights by the thousands;
While visions of carnage were wild and unbounded;
okay...will hand it off to the next person

Guy's making a play for dumbest writer on the site this season for some reason, this is also what disrespect looks like:
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/breaking-down-the-11-real-college-football-playoff-title-contenders-for-the-2020-season/
"Traditional powers
Florida State, Texas: Scoff all you want, but these two belong on this list. That doesn't mean I'm naive enough to think either will win the national title in 2020, but they have the pedigree. That's a lot more than any other school not on this list can say. Both have talented rosters, and should things click, they are capable of making plenty of noise."
UM, left off the list, has more talent on the roster than felonious sexual-assault university and more championships still, moron.
