After a thrilling 44-41 win on the road over NC State last time out, the Miami Hurricanes rose in both major college football polls released Sunday afternoon.
The Hurricanes, who were ranked No. 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll and No. 11 in the AP Poll's top 25 last week, rose to No. 9 in both polls released Sunday.
The Hurricanes are in the top 15 of both major polls for the eighth straight week. Miami’s highest ranking of the year was at No. 7, which was attained in both the Coaches poll and the AP poll on October 4th.
The Hurricanes (6-1, 5-1 ACC) travel to Virginia Tech (4-3, 4-2 ACC) for a matchup at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday, November 14. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. on ESPN2.

I knew if ND won it would probably push UM out of the ACCCG. Ironically this is likely the only year that ND will be eligible to play in the game! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

ND, still has UNC to play at Carolina. Don't know how a 3 way tie would work out but I know we got to win out, to be in that conversation.

Good morning cane friends
Off the wall question:
Any chance King comes back next season so he can start against Bama? If not, is it Tyler, Perry or another transfer?
If a transfer, any thoughts?

IMHO VERY SLIM chance D'King returns... his draft status improves week-by-week. (Even in a "fairly" strong QB class around the NCAA.)
If not, is it Tyler, Perry or another transfer?
I'm hoping for Tyler Van Dyke... Perry hasn't shown the "right stuff" to me yet. I would like to see Tyler get a chance to play. (It would help if we could have an EASY win, where D'King doesn't have to stay in the game for 60 minutes.)
If a transfer, any thoughts?
Manny D. has shown he can "WORK" the transfer portal... so who knows? But it would be nice to see us DEVELOP our OWN recruits, like Tyler Van Dyke. I guess we'll have to wait and see how our "record" turns out, AND if Rhett Lashlee returns.
Let's Go CANES!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

No we as Miami Hurricanes prefer to trail by 10 points late in the fourth quarter before waking up, playing hard and pulling off a last minute victory. It a Canes thing, U wouldn't understand.
And then we are told NOT to complain about it or we will lose our "fan card". Don't worry, be happy!
Posted by: 86Cane | November 09, 2020 at 02:40 PM
I agree about perry - but I would hate for Tyler to start against Bama unless he gets a lot of play in our last 5 games (or more if Clemson losses 1 more)

There are currently five 4 star and eleven 3 star QB's in the transfer portal.
Miami's 2021 class is currently ranked #13 by 24/7 Sports. Only Clemson at #5 and ND at #11 are ACC schools ranked above Miami.

We don't need a greenhorn starting against Bama. If we are going to run this type offense, then we need a Qb that can run 7 or 8 times a game. Hope Van Dyke can run some, sort of like LSU used Burrow.
If we can't lure Garcia, then it will be the transfer portal.
Realistically King should come back. I don't see him QBing in the NFL. Arm strength will hold him back.
He would be a WR in the pros.

Rumph- wow!

Not sure we are #9.....but not sure who anybody but the top 4 are anyway in this crazy season. I am at a resolve of just keep playing each game one at a time and focus on the task at hand:the opponent. We have got to focus on the fundamentals, we must think and eliminate the penalties, re-group the ST that TD was horrible....and come out focused each play not just the second half.
Honest every once in awhile I have things that really peeve me about my teams...those penalties Sat...and all season really irritate me!!!!. I would load up the whole damn team in full pads and sneakers...and drive to the Rock...make it like a prison....you start at the top left hand corner...and do the steps all the way to the other end...up and down...then cross to the visitor side do the same...full stadium is 1 set of steps. I would run those guys until they were ready to drop. I did it in HS and college at VT....believe me it is killer try it sometime at a small place you will see!!...no talking no stopping just run until you drop. Then get back on the bus no talking....and see if that makes them think about thinking....the damn penalties are just lazy arrogant sloppy selfish errors that they know are WRONG!
Hell the way they coach, I think me and Roachcoach should supervise the whole thing....MD and staff run too...maybe they get their heads out of their tails!!!
Still pretty pleased but we would be so much better and would be able to execute and win more convincingly without the damn penalties.
Shout out to Harry and Family...go Oden go....make grandpa run after you.
God bless all....shake a Vets hand and thank them for their service on Wed....in these crazy Covid 19/Biden/Trump times.....it is something that is a sure thing...without our men and women of the services we would never know the freedoms that so many take for granted!!! I know we all appreciate them....lets let them know!!
Always

Va came - you bring such good information and grounding for some who need it
We are not a top 10-20 team
But King/lash Lee give us a fighting chance we’ve not had in at least 15 years
Kosi starting vs bama scares the shit out of me as a fan
We got some good young talent
But I not alone in this statement- without King this is a ,500 ball club
Love my canes but that’s my view
Discipline and preparation are 2 things collectively that seem to be missing- again for the last 25 years
Oh well
God bless you and your family and go Canes!

Burns decommitting, oh well. Dude weighs maybe 150. At least go after dudes that weigh at least 170 coming out of high school.
This is par for the course. The other dude we have at CB coming in is a WR.
Never ever in the dam state of Florida should we struggle to get CB'S. We have 5 on the roster, 5! Most teams have at least 9 or 10.
Manny better address this problem in a New York minute. Pure laziness or throwing all yours eggs in one basket on 2 or 3 guys, that you probably have no chance to get 2 of the 3.

Correct me if I'm wrong but King is a "Grad Transfer", right? Wouldn't that mean he only had 1 year of eligibility left?
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | November 09, 2020 at 11:13 PM
Mark I agree 100%. We are competitive with King and Lashlee for sure. I watched the game again...and King has had to do some things different than at UH, plus adjust to school, Miami FL in general. I think he has grown a lot...and he is a great kid...I mean driven, leader, pushes hard pops up never gripes. Love it.
I have come to think if we had a strong OL...and some tough unafraid receivers like we are used to...Playmaker, AJ Reggie W, Santana Shock,KII and on and on this attack would be a fierce
psychedelic whirlwin..mind boggling go fast! He has a lot of drive smarts and talent...as does Lashlee. If we could raise the talent...a little...but really raise the attitude humility commitment accountability thinking process...and you know me than low hard clean fast..but Hit Hate Hurt...a fundamental...this team could take off and be back.
I am pretty happy with it despite my petty complaints..they have won some games we would have lost in the past...yes from 2003 on we have all seen it....so all in all the boys are progressing...ya know the sayin crawl kneel stumble walk trot rumble sprint blaze and become a super nova...I think we are trotting but starting to rumble a little....need to really focus in Bburg. Its winnable, but I have seen a ton of games there from the field...and its really a throw out the records they are tough on us and play hard.
This is an important measurement...and I say MUST win for these guys. We need to go into Bburg execute sharp and crisp...run it pitch it throw in at a pace. D gotta game up! No bad STs no bad penalties.

Sota, my understanding is this is a ‘free’ year - anyone who wants to come back can.
Even jarrid williams (RT) assuming he gets a lower draft grade than he was expecting
Posted by: AeroCane | November 10, 2020 at 04:27 AM
VA,
Got to stop the run, from the jump and beware of the TE's.
Most of the time we struggle mightily when we play their. Got to silence that gobbler noise they constantly play over the loud speakers, when they play well. It's dam annoying!

Posted by: Mark from Atl | November 09, 2020 at 09:28 PM
And those would seem to be pretty important things that could absolutely 100% be addressed, corrected and changed by the coaches. You can't coach talent or speed or heart but U can coach discipline and preparedness.
C'mon man U know the thing!

It will be interesting; they got one upped by Liberty. They looked a lot like we do when playing a inferior team talent wise, you take them for granted. You cannot measure heart and the will to win. We did not look good vs the run...but in the end they woke up. We need to be awake when we leave Miami for Bburg.

Yes, let’s start off strong! Let’s hope VT wins the toss and defers! I’d rather our O start the game than Blake and the D

Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | November 09, 2020 at 11:13 PM
Aero is correct. No one has lost eligibility. McCloud and King can both return if they choose.
One area that I have wondered about in regards to this effect is quarterback recruiting.
PRE-COVID:
Miami Hurricanes Roster entering 2021:
N'Kosi Perry (1 yr of eligiblity, RS burned)
Payton Machota (3 yrs of eligibility, RS burned)
Tyler Van Dyke (4 yrs of elibigility, RS burned)
REVISED ELIGIBLITY:
Miami Hurricanes Roster entering 2021:
D'Eriq King (1 yr of eligiblity, RS burned)
N'Kosi Perry (2 yrs of eligiblity, RS burned)
Payton Machota (4 yrs of eligibility, RS burned)
Tyler Van Dyke (4 yrs of elibigility, RS avail)
Let's say a HS quarterback is heavily considering us. He'll have to wait all of 2021, as King would be the starter.
Then in 2022, he would be competing against a 6th year quarterback in N'Kosi who has one year of eligibility left. And also, Tyler Van Dyke, who thanks to this situation would have exactly the same amount of eligibility left. Whoever wins that battle, it likely forces the other to transfer.

TC
Lol - we better hope mccloud doesn’t come back (time to move on from the slow dinosaur)
If a HS sr 4 or 5 star qb is afraid of competition from perry, Tyler or matchoa, we don’t want them. If they have to do 1 yr behind king (I hope so), that would be wonderful mentorship
If king doesn’t come back, we have nothing at qb for Bama! And, we haven’t been dominating enough to play Tyler and get him ‘quality’ reps
Posted by: AeroCane | November 10, 2020 at 07:35 PM
Amen Aero.
We get the brakes beat off us from the jump next year, if King is gone. Bama would be at least a 17 to 20 point favorite, especially if Mac Jones comes back. We have at least a chance if King is back.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | November 10, 2020 at 08:28 PM
Agree herb and Jones would be at best the 3rd qb taken after Lawrence and fields so he may stay (but hope not)
King is a low rounder IMO (maybe 4th, if someone takes a huge leap of faith) - he should stay and cement his college legacy by helping us upset mighty Bama!
But first, let’s stop the run and TE (per you, herb) and beat VT
PS we also have to hope guys like blades, Ivey (even though both are average, but rumph has sucked so bad we need them badly next year and neither is a high rounder lol), Roche and/or Phillips stay as well

Per the other sites it’s all opinions - no one knows. If we dropped him, why now and why? IMO he a nickel corner and we need numbers - I know he’s small but that’s the reason I say nickel.
Rumph is a sad, sad recruiter and not a great coach either.
Posted by: AeroCane | November 11, 2020 at 02:29 PM
Looks like a mutual deal. What I heard was they were hoping he get bigger but he is at about 145lbs. Probably nothing more than a developmental dude.
We need some serious playmakers at CB. Blades, Ivey and Crouch are good corners but not elite. Both Blades and Ivey ought to be playing better than they have been. No consistency. Crouch is the better cover corner of the 3.
Not much on the high school radar either. Markievious Brown but he is not elite. Terrion Arnold is another they are looking at but more of a safety and More of a Florida lean. Some kid out of Texas, I think his last name is Covington is another.
As I said before, this should never happen, struggling to get CB's but here lately, the last 4 to 5 years we struggle to get one much less two.
That's away to stack talent, just ignore the dam position. We'll just play with strikers and safeties.

Looking forward to Saturday’s game. Been distracted a bit. Had to get shots in my right eye for Retina bleeding. How awful it was. Hope the eye improves. It hurt so much, I must say. If it doesn’t improve, I will have to get shots in my retina monthly. Keeping track of the CANES is my only diversion. I think the Canes are on ESPN Saturday. My best to all of you. Click on CBs in the transfer portal link above and look at Markevious Brown from IMG Academy. He may be a silent to UM.
Also the #2 CB recruit in the Counry is from Palmetto HS in Miami. He is currently a Gator commit but all his teammates are going to UM.
Also the dumpster fire known as FSU has three of the top 50 CBs for 2021. It is likely that at least of them will flip to Miami. They have #17 (from TX), #19 (Lehigh Acres, FL) and #44 (Hollywood, FL).

The late John Thompson on paying college athletes in the NYTimes
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/12/opinion/ncaa-sports-paying-college-players.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage
The N.C.A.A. is also teaching young athletes that the way to succeed in life is to break rules, not follow them. We are abdicating our responsibility to act on the rules we make and corrupting the educational mission that universities are supposed to have. It seems that the N.C.A.A. is making players into thieves. It feels like entrapment.
All of this creates a situation where winning at a school like Georgetown, where I coached, is harder than at a lot of places Georgetown wants to compete with. Georgetown is not the same as those other schools. Those other schools are committed to winning at any cost. They do things we don’t, including but not limited to paying for players.
If I were coaching right now, I would cheat, too. I would pay for players, because if I didn’t I would lose to the cheaters and get fired. The N.C.A.A. has almost given coaches no other choice but to cheat if they want to compete for championships.
