Your Miami Hurricanes have one final piece of business in 2020 and that is a game against Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl today at 5:30 PM. The Canes know a victory at Camping World Stadium will put the finishing touches on a strong season and give the program momentum to build off of in 2021.
“I think it could certainly serve as that effect,” head coach Manny Diaz said. “I think the last time we came to Orlando [for a bowl], and I think our big win against West Virginia really set us up for a great offseason. Where we started 10-0 the following year, so I do think there is a kick-on year. But every year still exists in its own universe as we’ve seen. Obviously, we’re nothing like the team that played in Shreveport a year ago. We would like this to sort of be a bridge to next year, but we know there will be some key additions coming to our team next year.
“There’s a way we want to do things and a way we want to establish the program and we’re trying to sort of knock down these things that have sort of gotten us in the past and a bowl win is staring us right in the face,” Diaz added.
“It’s a big deal for us. [Orlando] was the site of our last bowl victory back in 2016,” Diaz said. “And that was the only bowl victory for a decade prior to that. We’ve been trying to build the program step by step and part of doing that is you kind of try to accomplish things that have been hard to accomplish here over the past few years. Winning a bowl game is right in that category and then to beat a team with the quality that Oklahoma State has will mean a lot as well.”
Miami received some great news a couple of days ago, as redshirt senior quarterback D’Eriq King announced his intentions to return for the 2021 season. The unquestioned leader of the offense and one of the Canes’ four team captains, King believes his team is eager to earn a victory on Tuesday to finish the season on a high note.
“Bowl games are kind of weird in that the team that wants to be there and wants to win will most likely win the game,” King said. “It is very important for us. We have a nasty taste in our mouth from the North Carolina game and I feel like the last two weeks of practice have been good. I hate losing more than anything, so we are trying to go out there and prove a point.”
Redshirt junior safety Bubba Bolden, who is Miami’s leading tackler with 65 stops on the season, believes the Hurricanes defense is looking forward to the opportunity to bounce back from the regular-season finale against North Carolina. While the Canes had a tough showing against the Tar Heels, they have turned that loss into motivation ahead of their game against the Cowboys.

“We take this very personally and [especially so] after the last game’s performance; that was not the Miami way,” Bolden said. “That was not how we play football, especially on the defensive side. So, we are coming into this game with a lot of fire, I’ll tell you that right now, and we’re going to come out and that’s what’s going to happen.”

McCloud gets some credit for playing DE, but he's killing us. Blake needs to help him. TD AGAIN! Bubba hitting ALL air on a floater???? Ooook, typical BS

C’mon, are you serious!!! Could’ve knocked that pass out of the hands of the defender!
Posted by: YooperCane | December 29, 2020 at 08:40 PM
Poor coverage at best. Good job Bake! You rock!

Players of the game for Oak st. Mark Pope and Dee Wiggins.
Posted by: The Herb | December 29, 2020 at 09:12 PM
What a shame. I still love my Canes and are proud of them.
Posted by: MLALUMNI1970 | December 29, 2020 at 09:13 PM
Harley dropped a big time play to end it. Too many mistakes in end.
Posted by: Killerbeez41 | December 29, 2020 at 09:13 PM
I hate manny Diaz! If he had any balls, pope and Wiggins wouldn’t be playing and their horrible drops wouldn’t of happened!
Now if he fired Blake and rumph, I’ll at least be a little happy but if he doesn’t, be ready for a really bad 2021
Posted by: AeroCane | December 29, 2020 at 09:13 PM
Zero of our WRs should see the field outside of garbage time which they all are (Pope, Wiggins, Harley). Despite the awful officiating, awful preparedness, this game is squarely on the WRs
Posted by: WR Basura | December 29, 2020 at 09:14 PM
Pope, My Bad Harley! Pope dropped the big play
Posted by: Killerbeez41 | December 29, 2020 at 09:15 PM
Oh by the way, Baker, Rumph and Patke GOT TO GO. They have no value in the recruiting game, so no big loss.
Posted by: The Herb | December 29, 2020 at 09:16 PM
Same ol’ Miami. Going down early early in a game and having to claw back to and make it a game...
This program is stuck in neutral and not going anywhere!

And again making a nobody look like a heisman. Way to go Manny! Hopefully one more year of this crap.

D “Dropped TD pass” Wiggins
Mike “Muffed punt” Harley
Mark “that ball Might be Covid so I’m not catching it” Pope
Posted by: WR Basura | December 29, 2020 at 09:22 PM
1) You don't give up 21 points on the first 3 drives if you've come to the game to win it.
2) You don't get a holding call on the opposite side bringing back a TD run by your QB, who gets injured, possibly for months, in the next play.
3) Better play a clean game when the refs are out to get you.
4) If a balls hits you right in the hands, catch it and hold on to it. Also applies to defenders.
5) College coaching is about player development first and foremost. If guys aren't better in year 3 and 4 than they were as freshmen, or if players don't improve over the course of the season, something is seriously wrong with the staff.
Posted by: VfB_Cane | December 29, 2020 at 09:27 PM
We haven’t had player development for 2 decades. Won’t get it back either. Not many with real game changing type talent want to come to Miami to play. It’s not a college town. Ballers in Norman, Clemson, Tuscaloosa, etc. go there and can run the town, heck, maybe even the state. Go to Miami you can’t even get into the clubs cuz you are a nobody. Probably can’t even get a beer at the Titanic. The actual cities don’t have good football anymore. It’s over for those colleges - NYC, Chicago, Miami, LA, etc. all these cities have way more to offer than those crappy college towns except the opportunity to be revered by the city in which you play. Miami will never be back
Posted by: WR Basura | December 29, 2020 at 09:35 PM
I'd take all the WRs ships and start over....
Posted by: dg | December 29, 2020 at 09:42 PM
If u have been here for 3 years and u have the drops, then u need to be dropped from the roster. Portal Pope, Wiggins, McCloud, Jennings, Steed. You could give them 4 more years and they would still suck.
Posted by: HerbieIbis | December 29, 2020 at 09:44 PM
Well, we lose yet another crappy bowl game. But at least we were competitive, despite all the injuries to, and "opt outs" by, some of our best players.
I am especially proud of Marshall Few - a former "walk on" (who was awarded a scholarship this year) - and who, I believe, is going to be a commissioned officer in the Air Force when he graduates from UM.
And N'Kosi Perry had a good game too, taking over at QB when the King was injured. He still may have a nice career as a backup QB at UM - and later as an adult film star after he graduates.

Pathetic Pathetic Is All I Got To Day Manny Diaz Is Not The Andwer And It has Nothing To Do With Being A Asshole He Is Just Not Good Enough 7-5 Type Coach Just Like Al Golden And Randy Shannon! The Sooner Miami Replaces Him The Better! Nothing Against Him Personally But He Ain’t It! At Least 15 Miami Hurricanes Upperclassmen Should Never Play Another Down At Miami Again They Are Collectively 20 Pounds Of BullDog 💩! Anyways Happy New Year Canesspace Family!
Posted by: Terrance Sullivan | December 30, 2020 at 01:33 AM
What does it take to get in Manny's Doghouse? Poor play and weak effort obviously don't.
If Manny was a dog trainer, he'd probably give the dog hugs and biscuits for crapping on the floor.
Posted by: Old Skool | December 30, 2020 at 03:39 AM
I wish someone would start charting drops*, find a sponsor, and put together a top ten list. At this point, we could easily field three Crisco All-Americans
*The pass touches both hands of the receiver and isn't caught, although special awards could also be given for attempted catches using aligator arms.

Happy New Year TSully - great post. We won't get a decent coach until we get a real AD. Even if Blake James pulled the plug, who would he replace him with? Scary to think actually.
Nkosi had a nice game. I missed the first half but it looks like Okie ran up and down the filed while we had 3 and outs?
Posted by: CGNC | December 30, 2020 at 08:16 AM
34 points is enough to win a game, but not when you give up 37
Posted by: CGNC | December 30, 2020 at 08:17 AM
Fellows,
It's not all gloom & doom, we won 8 games. Our whole roster can come back, if they chose to but so can everyone else's, which means more of the same; close games against nobodies.
The Herb is not on the firetruck yet, with the fire Manny deal. He has made mistakes with his coaching hires due to familiarity and loyalty. He's learning on the job and his next step will be getting rid of some coaches on the defensive side of the ball and that should be a knee jerk reaction.
Second he needs to give 5 or 6 upper classmen their walking papers.
Third he needs to hang around Nick Saban for a week to learn how to be a tyrant when it warrants him to become one. Dolphin clapping every time players keep dropping passes or committing stupid penalties ain't working. Maybe then he would drive off some of these lazy players we have.
Look at Mark Pope. The dudes been here 3 years and I don't think he has gained a pound. He at least should weigh 190.
Our linemen are weak. We continually get very little push up front. Maybe Feely is bit of the problem.
We continually recruit under sized CB's, when do actually decide to recruit one.
We have no LB's that are worth a dam or they haven't stepped to the forefront yet!
The good thing, he at least acknowledges we are there yet.
The thing is u ain't never going to get there if u keep ignoring certain position groups, like CB and bringing in a bunch of 3 star LBers.
With 25 ships available, there is no excuse to not have one legit CB signed.
The offense is getting better but now the defense is slipping.
We will start off next season with another azz beating, this time from Bama. This will of course be expected as the excuse is they are where we are trying to get too but are still a couple years away.
There is talent on the roster and more than all the ACC teams except Clemson. Manny's azz will be flaming hot if we have another UNC showing, which the first Quarter looked like last night. We should have one the game, except the stupid penalties and All the dam dropped passes.
IF Pope and Wiggins stay, they should start out buried on the depth chart and either they work their azzes off or they jump into the portal.
Same with Steed & Jennings, those 2 lost souls we play at LBer. The only place they can go is up.
McCloud, just needs to go.
Couch, although our best cover corner needs to gain some serious weight, at least get up to 180lbs. The dude might weigh 165 soaking wet.
Manny ain't going nowhere no time soon but if he wants to hasten his exit, then don't make no coaching changes and he will be gone near the end of next season or right after.
Posted by: The HerbieIbis | December 30, 2020 at 09:07 AM
The only bright spots were the facts that they didn't quit after going down 21 points and they fought to come back even after King's injury.
Other than that? Dog poop!
Now, let's see what Manny does to improve the team.
Posted by: 86Cane | December 30, 2020 at 10:15 AM
What's amazing is that Miami has only one bowl win in 15 years! The amazing part is that there is the most talent in the country within walking distance of the school! Incredible! How is that even possible?
Posted by: THE MAN | December 30, 2020 at 11:10 AM
Tough year to draw any definite conclusions from due to all the disruption caused by pandemic mitigation attempts so I'm not going to criticize the football team.
Basketball team keeps finding ways to choke but if they can ever get and then stay healthy can turn it around still.
Football off season needs to keep winning the transfer market and finally get better in the trenches first and foremost before it comes time to improve the coaching staff through either seasoning or better hires.
Of course, Fake Lames must be fired and replaced with an actual competent AD immediately still and until that happens Miami will not win anything. So still stuck on square one yet another season . . .

I have a question for all of the CANES experts. What is your feeling about the great Ed Reed? Do any of you remember how angry he was, and being hurt, when he challenged the team to come out fighting? What is his role now? I don’t remember what position he was hired in.
I bet the greats have something to say about the situation and possible remedies.
Happy New Year to all of you.

The "Chief of Staff" thing is bewildering?
What does he do? Who does he help? How does he help?
In my (self-proclaimed, expert) opinion, the COS title is just a(another) meaningless garbage gimmick, like the turnover chain, raising four fingers at the beginning of the fourth quarter, or Goldie's game day tie.

Hopefully we can find another opponent other than Bama in the transfer portal to open 2021Person facepalming The frustration is that there is so much right, but so much wrong!!!! Bothers when I hear Ed is there, what’s going on? They can have God there, if Manny ain’t listening...what good is it

Watching the Cotton Bowl and that team up N can't catch worth a damn either. Maybe we need to go to NC to find guys to catch passes. All that speed and no hands means you have a track star who can't get the baton. Worthless
