Your Miami Hurricanes have one final piece of business in 2020 and that is a game against Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl today at 5:30 PM. The Canes know a victory at Camping World Stadium will put the finishing touches on a strong season and give the program momentum to build off of in 2021.
“I think it could certainly serve as that effect,” head coach Manny Diaz said. “I think the last time we came to Orlando [for a bowl], and I think our big win against West Virginia really set us up for a great offseason. Where we started 10-0 the following year, so I do think there is a kick-on year. But every year still exists in its own universe as we’ve seen. Obviously, we’re nothing like the team that played in Shreveport a year ago. We would like this to sort of be a bridge to next year, but we know there will be some key additions coming to our team next year.
“There’s a way we want to do things and a way we want to establish the program and we’re trying to sort of knock down these things that have sort of gotten us in the past and a bowl win is staring us right in the face,” Diaz added.
“It’s a big deal for us. [Orlando] was the site of our last bowl victory back in 2016,” Diaz said. “And that was the only bowl victory for a decade prior to that. We’ve been trying to build the program step by step and part of doing that is you kind of try to accomplish things that have been hard to accomplish here over the past few years. Winning a bowl game is right in that category and then to beat a team with the quality that Oklahoma State has will mean a lot as well.”
Miami received some great news a couple of days ago, as redshirt senior quarterback D’Eriq King announced his intentions to return for the 2021 season. The unquestioned leader of the offense and one of the Canes’ four team captains, King believes his team is eager to earn a victory on Tuesday to finish the season on a high note.
“Bowl games are kind of weird in that the team that wants to be there and wants to win will most likely win the game,” King said. “It is very important for us. We have a nasty taste in our mouth from the North Carolina game and I feel like the last two weeks of practice have been good. I hate losing more than anything, so we are trying to go out there and prove a point.”
Redshirt junior safety Bubba Bolden, who is Miami’s leading tackler with 65 stops on the season, believes the Hurricanes defense is looking forward to the opportunity to bounce back from the regular-season finale against North Carolina. While the Canes had a tough showing against the Tar Heels, they have turned that loss into motivation ahead of their game against the Cowboys.

“We take this very personally and [especially so] after the last game’s performance; that was not the Miami way,” Bolden said. “That was not how we play football, especially on the defensive side. So, we are coming into this game with a lot of fire, I’ll tell you that right now, and we’re going to come out and that’s what’s going to happen.”

Here's your English update. Traveling around Manchester I couldn't help but notice all the fried chicken takeout joints. Apparently, the way to market a place like that is to associate it with a place in the US no matter whether the place is known for fried chicken or not.
KFC was of course of the originator but here you'll find Kansas Fried Chicken, New York Fried Chicken, Florida Fried Chicken, even Philadelphia Fried Chicken.
So what name has the greatest cache besides Kentucky? That would be Miami.
So far I've seen a Miami Fried Chicken, a Miami Crispy Fried Chicken and a Miami Spicy Fried Chicken.
The menus also include chips (fries -- potato chips would be "crisps") pizza and burgers. Most proclaim that their food is "halal", so I presume the stores are run by Arab proprietors.
Each time I come over I always manage to pick up a new word or phrase. This trip it's "bap" and "fly tipping". Despite its masturbatory sound, a bap is a simple meat sandwich on a bread roll. "Fly tipping" is much more colorful. That refers to dumping one's garbage from the car in a parking lot thereby (I presume) leaving a gratuity for the flies. I saw a sign in a grocery store parking lot with the warning "No Fly Tipping"

It's a new day. It's a new year.
Stop ranting (for a while) about Coach Diaz.
It's too late. The football season has ended, finally.
Now is the time for Canes fans to move on!
It's a new day. It's a new year.
Start ranting (right away) about Coach Larranaga.
It's not too early. The basketball season has begun, already.
Now is the time for Canes fans to pile on!

Fiesta Bowl..03...our Waterloo....get honest people it 2021.....that call was not the killer....the 17 points off turnovers, the OL breakdown......the lack of Killer Mindset ...Focus and fundamental breakdowns...players and coaches cost us #6!!.....the same problems......haunt us for 17 years.....FACT...boom...mike drops!
We did not quit..for a change...but we beat ourselves...another year...not horrible...but not my MO.....or any of ours...we expect...maybe we need to DEMAND more!!!
Happy New Yaer to all...celebrating today...eating good, warm, good football...my loving Mom, my rock would have been 91 today..Miss her but she is my inspiration to keep soaring in this life!!!

So Hillary and cam Harris coming back next year FYI

One thing u don't see in these 2 games, is dropped passes. What u do see is good tackling especially from CB's coming up to make plays. Obama's secondary don't miss to many tackles.

1. No instead you see players making plays and incredible catches even when covered.
2. Tackling is so pasee at UM, kinda like the 1980s.

I'll just leave this here ...
Florida coach Dan Mullen wasted little time identifying problem areas following the Gators’ worst defensive season in more than a hundred years.
Mullen fired secondary coaches Ron English and Torrian Gray, per reports from the Associated Press and 247Sports.
The 10th-ranked Gators (8-4) allowed 30.8 points a game in 2020, their most since giving up 41.2 over six games in 1917, and the secondary was a significant part of the problem.
English coached Florida’s safeties the past three seasons, and Gray coached cornerbacks the last two.

Manny sucks!
Can’t motivate nor get his team ready - ever!
Hasn’t effing fired rumph or Baker yet! What a loser!
Mullen is an imbecile but at least he made the moves (or started to) immediately after their bowl loss. What’s manny done? Make excuses and think of ways to not have his team ready for big games next season!
On that note: happy new year everyone

Tom Hermman out at Texas.
Posted by: The Herb | January 02, 2021 at 11:54 AM
If the Titans beat the Texans tomorrow (very likely) the Dolphins 1st round provisional pick from the Texans could move as high as #3!
Go Dolphins!
Posted by: Sarasota 'cane | January 02, 2021 at 01:38 PM
Sota
Correct
Do they trade down with someone who needs a QB? Pick the LT from Oregon? Or something else?
I say trade down - pick one of the WR’s from Bama or the WR from LSU, then with our second pick of the 1st round, pick up a pass rusher OR the Bama running back
Just my thoughts

Grad transfer DeAndre Johnson, DEfrom Tenn. To da U.
Posted by: The Herb | January 02, 2021 at 09:12 PM
Nice pick up Herb; now for a WR, CB and potentially a LB
As importantly: FiRE Baker and Rumph and force pope, Wiggins and cloud to transfer out!
Posted by: AeroCane | January 02, 2021 at 09:29 PM
Listening to Ivins and Lake, they don't think Manny will cut ties with Baker. They also seem to think Banda is going to Utah St. Really haven't heard one way or the other about Rumph.
Todd Stroud, maybe takes an off field position.
Let The Herb say this, Banda was one of our 2 best coaching recruiters besides Fields. I had said earlier that I the only way he stays, is that Manny will appoint him as DC, if Baker is canned. Well the writing is on the wall. Baker must be coming back. This sucks. Not that Banda is that great of a coach but where would we be without his recruiting tenacity? Who has Baker brought on board, Patke and we all know what Rumph brings to the recruiting game, which is basically nothing and he too is a good coach not great.
Patke, Rumph and Baker virtually bring nothing via recruiting.
If Manny doesn't make a move with DC, he might just be cutting his own throat. To many games this past year teams are zipping down the field and scoring and it seemed like we stayed behind. For the most part aside from UNC & Clemson, we were pretty tough in the 4th Qter. It shouldn't take 3 qters. To make changes. We don't even need to be playing any kind of zone or cover 2 or whatever, we get scorched.
All teams, including the teams that are loaded have a tough time of stopping the Spread, RPO but their depth of talent will win out in the end plus they have A-1 coaching.
We need to start recruiting everywhere. It's great that we recruit S. FLO. but it seems alot of these kids are overrated or that the ones we do lose are getting a hell of alot better coaching. Depth of talent will solve a lot of issues with entitlement, that goes on at Miami.
We have issues at LBing, WR & CB. With corner, it's depth, with LB, it's talent. With WR it's a go to guy. We have some talent but getting them to perform in game is another issue.
We now have no upper classmen at DE, except for the kid coming in from TENN. That side of the ball that had been a strength is now becoming a weakness.
The slate needs to be wiped clean on that side. We need dogged recruiters, period.
That is all.

"We need dogged recruiters, period."
Yup, yup, yup. For instance, that freshman RB from TX A&M last night, Devon Achane, also happens to be the HS Texas State 200 Meter Champion...
We need COACHES-WHO-CAN-COACH, and ELITE, HUNGRY ATHLETES for them to work with.

Sarkisian to take over at Texas

Banda is gone.
Next coach out?
Posted by: nemo2020 | January 03, 2021 at 02:59 PM
CGNC
Too bad about sarkisian - I was hoping the dolphins would get him as their OC
Banda is a HUGE loss - the only recruiter on the D side
Posted by: AeroCane | January 03, 2021 at 03:06 PM
Phins need receivers badly
Parker is a wussy, grant and Wilson are too injury prone
That pick six had nothing to do with Tua
We also need a new OC
Posted by: AeroCane | January 03, 2021 at 03:09 PM
Aero after watching the game today I couldn’t tell you who they should pick. This is a disaster. I’m not gonna throw Tua under the bus in his rookie year but Fitzpatrick has a better grasp of game right now and I think we’d still be balling if he was available.
Annnnnnnnnnd Tua throws a pick as I’m typing this...
Great...just great...
Grrrrrrrrr Dolphins...

Even though it was an 8-3 season, which is good for some teams even us....it is so much smoke and mirrors....you analyze the teams that were good in bowls, and the big 4 that made playoffs.....we are not even close to playing with them. We are about average...nothing more.
I would say clean house...a deep enema is needed at UM I would say fire Blake James...as a start...he sucks...every program is lacking...at least on the mens side...the Ladies teams are much better...and they are tougher than all the mens teams....CMD....is not a head coach at any major program....he is not the answer here....unless you want to finish 8-3 7-6 6-7 in some order year after year...I do not. However, there is nobody out there to hire when you fire everybody. Hermann could not do it with that huge budget and base of recruits he won 65% of his games and is out. There are no real good coaches out there who will leave a good job and come here for an average job....beaches weather clubs women fishing things to do....it matters not if you cannot compete...yes we win...but we have not competed in 17 years...and may never again. It like killing a hog in the old days...I remember my relatives slaughtering hogs in the 60s....a long slow bleed.....thats us 17 years of slow bleed and death.. I can hope for..but I do not see any real change or upswing any time soon. The Board, AD, coaches and players are all average and will never be any more for a long time....I hate being average...not my style...so now I hibernate until fall....spring game here means nothing there is not a lot of bright sparks...just another long slog to another fall...and another average year.
Hope DK gets well...out of the gate with Bama.....thats 0-1 right off!

ELITE atheletes are a dime a dozen. HUNGRY is a completely different story. HARD WORKING is very hard to find I am told.

DeMarcus Vandyke going with Banda, another recruiter gone.
Who's left on staff besides Fields and Cooney who are above the norm recruiters. Likens is okay, Lashley has one job to do and that's get a QB. The Oh line coach ain't bad but the word ace has evaded us.
