On behalf of all of the many talented bloggers here at Canespace we want to wish U a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As you know if you have been around here for any amount of time this blog is more than just a Miami Hurricane sports blog.
It is a family. A family that at times can be a little dysfunctional but still a family of fans like no other blog on the Internet.
We would also like to thank the many good folks at the UM Athletic Department for their on-going support of our blog as well.
As we make our Christmas wish list, we ask U to join us this Holiday season in wishing peace on Earth and good will towards all. Well, everyone except Florida State and Florida Gator fans of course.
Here are our simple Canespace Holiday wishes for 2020:
1. That UM wins their bowl game against Oklahoma State.
2. That Manny Diaz turns out to be a better coach than anyone could imagine.
3. That UM baseball makes an early season statement on their way to Omaha.
We would like to wish all of U a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Happy Holidays CaneSpacers!ππππΌ

This will likely end really badly but congrats for finally making it, one of the few head coaches who never played the game, joining the likes of the pirate captain in that subset.
He got his coaching start at my high school when I was a senior and his star player on his side of the team used to laugh at his stated coaching goal, but here we are two plus decades later and he did it, funny how life works sometimes.

San Jose State University football head coach Brent Brennan is one of nine finalists for the 2020 Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in conjunction with the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The 2020 Mountain West Coach of the Year is the first San Jose State head coach named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, named after the former Grambling Tigers Hall of Fame head coach whose teams won 408 games in 56 seasons. The FWAA has honored a national "Coach of the Year" every year since 1957.
Other finalists are Tom Allen of Indiana, Matt Campbell of Iowa State, Jamey Chadwell of Coastal Carolina, Karl Dorrell of Colorado, Luke Fickell of Cincinnati, Nick Saban of Alabama, Kalani Sitake of BYU, and Clemson's Dabo Swinney.

In the "funny how life turns out sometimes" category...
Oregon State
In January 1999, Erickson returned to the college ranks when he was hired at Oregon State University,[26] a five-year contract at $300,000 per year[27] The Oregon State Beavers had become one of three perennial "cellar dwellers" in the Pacific-10 Conference.[28][29][30] Expectations were so low that Erickson's predecessor, Mike Riley, was promoted to an NFL head coaching position with the San Diego Chargers after leading the Beavers to a 5β6 record.
In his first season, Erickson directed the Beavers to a 7β5 record, the program's first winning season in 29 years. They secured an invitation to the 1999 Oahu Bowlβtheir first bowl appearance in 35 years. The following year, Oregon State went 11β1, snapped a 33-year losing streak to the USC Trojans, and earned a share of the Pac-10 conference championship for the first time since the conference expanded to ten teams in 1978. It was the first time the Beavers won at least a share of a conference championship since 1964. Oregon State began to develop a national reputation for its high-powered offense and a swarming defense.[31] In fact, the team barely missed an invitation to play in the national BCS title game due to a late-in-the-game missed field goal against Washington. The win over USC did, however, help Erickson's crew clinch a spot in the Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irishβthe Beavers' first major-bowl appearance since the 1965 Rose Bowl. Oregon State won the bowl game 41β9, in what is generally considered to be one of Erickson's crowning career achievements.
At the close of the 2000 season's bowl games, the Beavers were ranked fourth nationally in the Associated Press top 25 College Football Poll, their highest final ranking in school history.[32] Some media outlets suggested Oregon State would have been a favorite to win the BCS Championship at the Orange Bowl had they been selected.[33][34][35][36]
Before the 2001 season, Sports Illustrated ranked Oregon State as the number one team in the nation.[37] However, a lack of returning talent from the 2000 team took its toll, and the Beavers went 5β6. Among the players who hail from Erickson's high-octane 2000 team are NFL stars Chad Johnson and T. J. Houshmandzadeh. Both were selected in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Erickson was named Sporting News National Coach of the Year in 2000. His name also came up for several high-profile college football positions.[38] In late 2000, Erickson was a primary choice to fill the vacant position at USC, however he spurned a $7.2 million, five-year contract to remain with the Beavers, and the position eventually went to Pete Carroll.[39][40]
Erickson remained coach at Oregon State for four seasons (1999β2002) before accepting another coaching position in the NFL. His early departure left some OSU fans angry with him for not finishing-out his contract, but he is still credited with playing a leading role in reviving the Beavers football program. Mike Riley returned to Corvallis to succeed Erickson as head coach in 2003.

HerbieIbis I get it. But like I was saying regardless of how we played against UNC and Clemson, look at the ACC All Conference. ONLY Borregales made first team. This isn't the first time we've been snubbed on recognition either. That's what I mean by we get no love or respect. It's like there are haters everywhere for us.
Posted by: Killerbeez41 | December 23, 2020 at 12:10 PM
Killerbeez,
How do u make first team A-A, and only second team all ACC?
How are u the only kicker in America to hit 90% of your FG'S and end up second team
A-A?

Happy Healthy and Prosperous holiday season and New Year!!
PS can we leave the ACC and join the SEC? It would be more fun and recruiting would be even better! And maybe we wouldnβt be as hated in the SEC as we are in the ACC! Just some food for thought!
Posted by: AeroCane | December 23, 2020 at 05:10 PM
Aero,
The recruiting definitely would be better but until it did, I sure hope they wouldn't put us in the SEC West. We might not win a conference game.

Happy Birthday Tom. You may think time is going by fast now that y0u are 58, but it not true. At 78 I have found out that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The more you pull out the faster it goes.
What a incredible finish to the Dolphin game.
Posted by: Harry Miller | December 27, 2020 at 12:00 AM
two things i'm real happy about today:
1- that i'm a fins fan and not a raiders fan this year
2- that i wasn't one of the fans, who stopped watching the fins-raiders game early
one thing i'm sad about:
- that i'm no longer a young spring chicken, like that adolescent, 86!

TONY: adam beasley from the miami herald wrote regarding the 26-25 score: "(its) the first time an NFL game finished with that exact score"
is that possible?
how do you even look up stuff like this?

damn, mega-groovy!
how weird is that, that one of the most impossible, magical, surrealistic games (or at least the last minutes) was truly a singular event??!!
thx for link,86!

IN HONOR OF 86's RECENT B'DAY:
- no matter how difficult the relationship with the canes, no matter how dire the straits, "58 straight" never strayed . . . 'til reaching 58 himself
- and so, it's a ripe time to open his vault and air out a few of his wily secrets:
. . . a true understanding of him begins with the understanding that he works in code: 86 + 58 = the mystic number, "144"!
. . . which tells us . . .
Posted by: alpine | December 28, 2020 at 01:12 AM
1- the first line of psalm 144 is "blessed be the lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight"
. . . exactly! we all know about 86's ability to use those fingers to type out a warring message, (sometimes spittle seems to fly out the fingernails), when he gets up on the wrong side of the bed or if you post something on the wrong side of his political spectrum
. . . and now we know that he listens to songs by "lorde" while he types those messages
Posted by: alpine | December 28, 2020 at 01:16 AM
2- "144" = 12 12's, aka, a dozen dozen, (for any mathematically challenged on here)
. . . you will also note, that 86's birth month is december, the 12th month
. . . and that he turned 58 on the 26th day in the year 2020: 2 + 6 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 12
- 86 is obviously underlining the need for a clear amount of "12" in a dozen
. . . but we know that "a baker's dozen" is 13, which according to 86 symbolism, "is just wrong"
. . . so 86 is clearly signifying the need to get rid of our d-coordinator, baker
