The Word From The Herb

TJL,
Well unless they get on the ball, we will be rolling with those (so far) lost cause LB's.
So far they have shown The Herb nothing. Not saying they couldn't flip a switch but we got bulldozed by UNC.
U know with Bama trotting out RSF Qb, they will try to run it down our throat.
The LB from USC is a run stuffer don't think he can cover, though! Last I saw he was close to 250 but was a 5 star, I believe. His brother is at MSU.
Do we have a run stuffing LB, I haven't seen one.

Please don't tell me we are lining up against Bama with the LB,s we have....

Last seen several years ago.

On current recruiting levels, I think a big factor is that the NCAA is not committed to a temporary elevation of the 85 man roster limit after the 2021 season. We’re presently over 85 right now, as are many other schools. I was reading about this last week and if the NCAA does not budge, many schools will be faced with the prospect of not renewing scholarships for senior players or having very small, sanction-esque high school signing classes. Unless the roster sizes are expanded in 2022, teams will have considerably less remove for incoming high school players. One ACC school (not us) might theoretically not be able to offer any new player a scholarship next year.

An exception would be FSU, which has seen so much roster attrition’s that they can probably sign a full class.

AeroCane

Very interesting TC
Thx

TonyCane

Something else that I read in the same article...commitments for 2022 in CFB are down 75% versus where they are a year ago.

AeroCane

TC
That’s understandable- too much media, and these kids are loving it and enjoying their visits prior to committing- I would bet most know where they are going, but want the ‘free’ vacations

JCane

Fewer slots would make it seem like only the 4 and 5 star guys would have the luxury of taking their time without making sure to lock in a spot somewhere?

AeroCane

JCane
Agreed - catch 22 for the canes - do we lock up 3 stars or wait on 4/5 stars?
I think their should be a happy medium but at this time, do not compromise. Leave the scholly open for a portal guy if we can’t get the kid we really want. JMO

HerbieIbis

That's what they are going to do, if they don't get who they are after, they won't settle for some low level 3 star. No more under the radar. They will go portal. We are half way thru the month and still only have 2 cruits.
We have 2 or 3 crystal balled to us and they are good but we have a long way to go. I don't see this class being as good as last year, at least not with high schoolers. The portal will have to be our savior or a great season or both.

TonyCane

Another outcome of this situation is that schools are literally not taking commitments right now under certain circumstances. If a choice four or five star player is in after a OV, then yes. But a three star player...they are sometimes being told to wait as no one knows the scholarship situation for 2022.

Granted these are generalities and there are exceptions to go around. But the fact that commitments nationwide were so low (as of two weeks ago) is striking. I can’t believe that the NCAA can’t come to the logical conclusion and temporarily expand roster limits over the next four years.

HerbieIbis

After being cooped up for over a year, I can see why these kids are going on these visits. I'm not so sure we would of ended up with the class we got last year, if not for the pandemic.

WINNER-WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!!!

JCane

Just call me Captain Obvious, 86! Recruiting is a whole new world following COVID. You can't save room for the older guys because COVID wasn't fair, sign incoming freshmen, and use the portal while staying under 85 without someone being sacrificed, which means all of the bubble guys at each level.

86Cane

Canes 34 - Tide 13

That is all.

Aero...I found your new baseball coach for Miami:

Aero...or maybe this guy?

AeroCane

86 - I like both - especially the vandy guy if he can recruit AND he’s from a private school so he should understand the U’s dynamic! BUT neither have HC experience

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there!

AeroCane

From inside the U:

“Miami landed their first defensive commit of the 2022 cycle on Saturday when Lexington (Miss.) Holmes County Top247 cornerback Khamauri Rogers committed to the Hurricanes over Ole Miss, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and others while on his official visit.

The 5-foot-11.5, 155-pounder is considered the No. 61 overall player and No. 9 cornerback in the country, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He is also ranked the No.2 player in Mississippi. “

He also had offers from Georgia, the gators, FSU and Oklahoma!

155-pounds? YIKES! (I guess he's so fast, he doesn't get pushed around?) 😳

roachcane77

Anyone know if Rogers is also a punt & kick returner?

AeroCane

Roach - he will gain the weight - no worries there
Don’t think he’s a pr/kr but not sure

HerbieIbis

Well he has upper end talent and that's what we need but it does continue our trend of getting at least one CB that is going to need some serious weight gain.

roachcane77

Yeah, for sure... talent, speed, and desire make up for a lot of other shortcomings.

If that's what she said then fine, I can accept it, but you are going to have to show me some research data, written documentation or actual courtroom testimony transcripts.

Happy Father’s Day to all you mothers

HerbieIbis

Landon Ibeita, WR from Louisanna commits.
The Canes backing themselves in a Corner. Lee & Ibetia, I don't believe were plan A or B. They need bigger WR's. Both are good WR's but are basically the same. Nick Cull may be the next CB to commit and he would be a plan C guy. They have some big fish right in front of them. These guys they could probably get later.

Happy Father’s Day Canesspace Family!

From another site...
"The Supreme Court has ruled that the NCAA's rules on amateurism and prohibiting college athletes from profiting are unconstitutional.
The NCAA as we all know it died this morning, and that's a good thing."

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

F#ck Mark Emmert and the horse he rode in on... That's what you get for messing with The 🙌🏼, you a$$hole!

The Herb

Well Roach, it's a good thing politicians got involved or ole Mark & the NCAA would still be giving the athletes the high hard one. That's the reason so many of them walk around pigeoned toed now.

MLAlumni1970

Just taking a moment to check in and wish everyone a very safe 4th of July.
Don’t do anything stupid this summer. We have some football coming up, and we all have to be COOL, to root for our boys, against big, bad Alabama!
I hope we make a respectable showing, and maybe cause an upset. Stranger things have happened.
