Hope The Baseball Team have a Good Year! The Road To Omaha starts very soon! Good luck to Canes Basketball team today as the play Georgia Tech in Atlanta wish I could be there cheering them on but at work. Will be watching on my phone. Go Canes!

alpine

- i can't say i enjoy watching baseball, or even following it
. . . but there are moments when canes baseball floats into my awareness; that invariably leaves me thinking that canes baseball, which used to be consistently good, has been a huge disappointment for a looooong time now
- the worst was last year, when the canes finally beat florida 2 out of 3, which they NEVER do, and which seemed to annoint them as "legitimate"; then they basically crapped the bed again, by winning yet another "mediocrity award"
- dimare should get left at the airport if he leads the canes to another "year of the yawn"

orange 'n green in the vein

Going to need to get Wong going in the second half to close this one out most likely.

(I know . . .)

AeroCane

Hard to get excited with dimare as head coach and hopefully our new ad is watching carefully and moves on if he has this team totally not ready like he did last year! We are the University of Miami and should ALWAYS be in the discussion for one of the top teams and we need to get back to that! Let’s hope last year was an aberration and this year he miraculously learns to get his team ready, play the right guys in the right spots, practice properly etc and we at a minimum get to a super regional.

There IT is right there.

alpine

canes go on the road and knock off GA TECH by 11 and ending tech's streak of wins at two
. . . these "bottom feeder" teams don't seem so bad
. . . i thought tech was a decent team; but tech's poison was a complete inability to make FT's; they also missed several bunnies, which were so easy, hefner could have "made 'em" from his grave
- anyway, well done, canes bb!

Terrance Sullivan

Good Win By Our Miami Hurricanes Basketball Team now 16-5 8-2 ACC Play! Go Canes!

86Cane

So I am going to go out on a limb here and say that basketball is "a game of matchups". I guess we just don't matchup well with FSU?

alpine

4 1/2 minutes left; catoor for VT has hit 9 of 11 3-pointers and VT knocking FSU upside the head

alpine

- fsu downed by VT 85-72
- maybe they feel sorry for the teams at the bottom?
- miami somehow still mostly getting up those ACC ladders; fsu chutin' it right now

(yes, sometimes CHUTES N LADDERS is more fulfilling than CHESS)

alpine

p.s. VT's catoor wound up hitting 10 of 12 3-pointers, including a perfect 7 of 7 in the 2nd half!!!!

AeroCane

From inside the U:

‘Bryan McClendon has his first commitment in the bag after 2023 Miami Northwestern wide receiver Andy Jean announced on Saturday that he would stay home and play for the Hurricanes.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder made up his mind shortly after leaving Miami on Saturday for Elite Prospect Day.’

HerbieIbis

Well, I'm glad Mac is still here. Heard Jawga was after him.

AeroCane

Herb
They might be but he’s from Miami, getting paid well and working with a good coach and outstanding human being! He should stay!!

HerbieIbis

Well, Jean has alott of suitors, so the question is should we get him now, when we could get him later? I mean there are a couple 5 star WR's we are after and already have Seymore, who committed to Manny. Brown, Iniss and William's are all 4's & 5's we are after and in a good position for a couple of them but yeah it's still early.

AeroCane

I think we take 4 and HOPEFULLY we get 2 out of Tate, Inness, brown or williams.

orange 'n green in the vein

The best effort as a team rebounding in a while leads to the most comfortable margin of victory in a while. Walker picking up some of Wong's scoring slack was perfectly timed.

Finding a way to play even better defensively as a team is going to be a must to continue the winning streak. Single digit number of games left after this week, pushing this one almost to a must win in order to stay in the championship hunt this season.

AeroCane

Well uga is effing hiring McClendon
This sucks
I think it’s time to find a team to root for in the sec because the rest of college football is simply 2nd tier.

86Cane

Days after bringing back former Georgia staffer Mike Bobo as an analyst, Kirby Smart is calling on another former Georgia coach to lead the wide receiver position. Smart has hired Bryan McClendon as the wide receivers coach to replace Cortez Hankton, with Palmer Thombs of DawgsHQ being the first to report the news.

McClendon previously coached wide receivers at Georgia during the 2015 season. He served as the interim coach after Mark Richt had left for Miami and before Smart took over. He spent last year as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Oregon, working with Mario Cristobal. He had followed Cristobal to Miami, working as the wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator.

Like Smart, Bobo and Will Muschamp, McClendon played at Georgia as a wide receiver from 2002 through 2005. After a single season with the Chicago Bears, McClendon returned to Georgia as a graduate assistant for two seasons before being named Georgia’s running backs coach. McClendon held that job through 2014, adding the title of recruiting coordinator as well.

In 2015, McClendon became the wide receivers coach. He would have the job for only season though, as the Bulldogs elected to move on from Richt. Before leaving Georgia though McClendon served as the interim coach for the 2016 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.

McClendon next ended up at South Carolina with Muschamp. He held the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach titles for two seasons before being bumped up to offensive coordinator for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

After his stop at South Carolina, McClendon arrived as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Oregon. McClendon is regarded as a strong recruiter, something that had fallen off under Hankton.

I got Arkansas. Who U got?

86Cane

In just Pittman’s second season on The Hill, the Hogs beat Penn State to win the Outback Bowl and finish the season 9-4. The bowl victory was the first for the program since 2016 and first-ever bowl win over a team from the Big 10 in program history. The nine wins are the most by an Arkansas team since 2011. Both the major polls recognized the Razorbacks’ season this week with the final AP Poll ranking the Hogs 21st and the USA Today Coaches Poll placing the team 20th. Arkansas finished the season ranked for the first time in a decade after spending the majority of the season in the polls, reaching as high as No. 8 in the AP Poll after beating No. 7 Texas A&M.

Led by an offense that returns mostly intact for the 2022 season, including QB KJ Jefferson, and a defense that will be anchored by the return of LB Bumper Pool, the Hogs have already begun to receive lots of praise, landing in at least nine different early Top 25s for the 2022 season from various media outlets.

AeroCane

Well Briles stayed with arky over Da U so maybe I’ll go with them as well. Maybe AD Rad will move us to the SEC so we might be able to field a full coaching staff!

nemo2020

Someone PLEASE tell Mario Cristobal that the honeymoon is OVER.

HerbieIbis

Well let's see, Mario, has been here for almost 2 months and we have 3 coaches, all of which came with him from Oregon. Got shot down by 2 potential OC candidates. Lost, besides himself, both of his top recruiters. Secured 3 top 100 recruits, well maybe 3. We have all this money now and can't buy a coach or Mario ain't worried about finding any no time soon. Will we have enough coaches to conduct Spring practice? Was happy to get rid of Manny and the new cruits but this is becoming a joke.

VA Cane

I got Arkansas. Who U got?

I got Vandy dammit....the rest of the teams colleges in the SEC are educational jokes...aint none of those playas making no grades or graduating...they majoring in football!!!!

Terrance M Sullivan

Apparently Spring Practice starts on March 7th.

AeroCane

So by March 7th I’m assuming Mirabela will be at LSU and D’salavae at Texas a&m
LOL

100!
- i can't imagine any canes fan not being deeply frustrated at how the staffing issue is playing out
- i truly believed that a professional like mario, with deep roots & knowledge within the college coaching ranks, would have filled his coaching staff by now
- instead, we have less than a skeleton crew
. . . and instead of attaching bones, we get to watch more of them fall off

alpine

- at the same time, i am closing my eyes to the idea of a stephen ross picking another fins coach; and i'm already certain, that within an organisation like the fins, tua is gonna sink and won't rise until the fins trade him for a 5th rounder in 1-2 years
- all of which means, i'm counting on mario to raise my sports ship (the ross-fin enterprise ain't gonna do it) . . . so that mario-dude needs to pleasantly shock me with some wonderful coaching hires and not unpleasantly surprise me by finally hauling in, not his 1st, 2nd or 3rd picks, but his 9th, 10th or worse . . .
- LET'S GET THIS DONE ALREADY!!!

Ohio_Cane

Story time: Kirby Smart orchestrated this whole BMac situation to screw him over.

Waited for him to leave right before NSD and right after he got a local WR Andy Jean to commit to him.

Guess who Jean's dream school is? Yep, UGA.

BMac was lying to former Canes when asked if he was interviewing with UGA. He told all of them no.

Ohio_Cane

To screw Mario over ^^^^

orange 'n green in the vein

If you really want to screw over a coaching staff you take long entrenched members of the staff, not someone who hasn't unpacked the office yet. You off season conspiracy theorists are something else.

Now bottom skimming is a win, the anti-first-place-in-the-league-coach faction will love that shift in expectations;

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-scores-winners-and-losers-big-12-sec-challenge-losses-by-kansas-baylor-hurts-conference/

"Winner: Miami is still king of ACC

The Hurricanes won 73-62 at Georgia Tech, despite committing an uncharacteristic 16 turnovers. Getting it done on the road keeps the Hurricanes (16-5, 8-2 ACC) atop the conference standings as they hit the midway point of their league slate. A pair of one-point losses to Florida State are the only thing keeping Miami from being 10-0 in league play. A home showdown with Notre Dame awaits Wednesday in what will be a game between two of the league's top surprise teams."

Hamilton must have felt guilty the refs screwed over his old team twice, so nice of him to make sure his program lost to two bottom feeding scum teams in the league to make it right in the games back standings.

AeroCane

Eff UGA; eff McClendon and especially EFF smart!

Alpine: I agree - as long as Ross is alive, the fins will suck! How Grier still has a job is beyond me. On a side note: They should of kept case 1 more year and then we would of been assured of sucking and we could have burrows! LOL
Flores ego kept us from getting burrows and his stubbornness cost us Fitzpatrick and we still don’t have a left tackle so maybe we should of kept tunstill - IJS as Grier’s picks haven’t been anything special at all

HerbieIbis

I ain't worried about Jean. I believe the 53rd ranked WR.
Coaches come and they go, especially assistants. Most of them have rap sheets of where they have been. It was reported about 10 days ago that Mac had been offered or was about to be offered to come to Jawja. Don't know what took so long.
To me, Mario has done backed himself into a corner. Going to have to move down a grade to the non power 5 school or go upward to the NFL. While nothing wrong with going to the NFL, those dudes are not lovers of recruiting, unless they had spent a lot of time at the college level. All the time we didn't have the loot, we had no problem filling the staff, now that we got the loot, ain't to many come running with their hands out. Maybe Mario is keeping more of the loot for himself and offering peanuts to the assistants. Either way, we don't get Stewart, I'll be pissed. We get him, I'll let Mr. Meticulous off Da hook, for the time being!

Ohio_Cane

Some, not all, announcemnent times for our targets here:

DL Shemar Stewart - 1:30 p.m. ET Wednesday (CBS Sports HQ)

OL Anez Cooper - 12 p.m. ET Wednesday

EDGE R Mason Thomas - 1:30 p.m. ET Wednesday

OL Dave Iuli - 6:30 p.m. ET

AeroCane

Per inside the U
Interesting

“ While Stewart liked what he heard from Cristobal, he did have one big question for the head coach, and that was in regards to who will be Miami's defensive coordinator those upcoming.

"He said that he has somebody in mind," Stewart said before nothing that he didn't want to say too much.”

alpine

- damn, ACC used to be a VERY top BB conference
- but in the AP (top 40) poll that just came out, duke is #9; miami #30 and notre dame is #37 PERIOD!!!! wtf is that??!!
- meanwhile, the football SEC conference has 5 in the top 25 (including auburn at #1), + #26 and #33
- one or two other conferences are still better, but this seems to be trending to where the SEC will soon be tops in football AND bb
- not saying it's a direct "cause-n-effect" thing, because there's also "fins football", not to mention the canes football (no) staff issues
. . . but yesterday i looked up and coulda' swore i saw a piece of sky falling!

AeroCane

And baseball alpine
That’s why I said the other day, maybe our AD will miraculously get us into the SEC

HerbieIbis

I hope Cristobal told him who it was. Don't know why everything has to be a secret with Mario.

AeroCane

Terrance Sullivan

Looking at the schedule I say 9-3! Hope it will be better but that's my guess!

Ohio_Cane

Experts moving their Dave Iuli pick from UM to Oregon this morning....

HerbieIbis

If we were in Bama's stratosphere these dudes living cross country might be more apt to jump on board, like Luli.

Ohio_Cane

It's eye-uli, Herb. Just fyi. Won't ever need to know that tho since he's headed elsewhere lol

Old Skool

Bye Bye Brady. 7 Super Bowl rings and
records that are going to stand for a long time.

I believe he's giving up $15 million in signing bonuses by deciding to retire today as opposed to next week.

That's a decision I'd love to have.

Old Skool

One unknown Brady stat from the NYTimes

Only six quarterbacks before Brady, according to Sports Reference’s Stathead database, had even attempted one pass after turning 42. Combined, those quarterbacks — George Blanda, Steve DeBerg, Doug Flutie, Warren Moon, Earl Morrall and Vinny Testaverde — threw for 37 touchdown passes at 42 or older. Brady, in his first season with the Buccaneers, in 2020, threw 40.

UMike

We won't pick up Stewart neither

VA Cane

I see a little snoozing here...you got to strike when the iron is hot. I see it as people are hesitant to commit to the U...both important staff positions and top players...Heres why...as the old devils advocate....

Face it fans; we have been at the bottom of college football since 2003. We have not been anywhere near challenging for anything. Even a couple times we were ranked high..beat OSU TAMU...it came tumbling down fast cause we were not a good football team...got a lucky break...then got beat by real teams...name em!

So with Mario coming its only so big. Dead program living on life support from prior glory brings former player who had some success in a weak West Coast conference...but got drilled by a real football team 2x at the end.

As a position coach it sounds good...but as an important, more visible coach OC/DC (where success might lead one to a HC somewhere) do you want to sign up for what is still, at best, an expensive bet, risk, roll of the dice, turn of the card, flip of the coin? The U does not win any important games or bowl games...and gets embarrassed by good teams...as well as inferior ones...do you want to hitch your horse to that wagon as a big piece of the puzzle? with a guy who had some success in a well...high school...er..jv...ah sandlot program in a jerkoff conference....and coming to a basketball conference with 1 good team...clemson...that lost everybody and will be returning to earth?...Maybe not....you stay where you are get more money with less pressure.

Players are coming..they have heard the call of the wild...seen the U I and II on 30 for 30...BUT...what have you done in 19 years...NADA...yea you might make it to the NFL...where they will coach you up, teach you what you did not get at the U and you can play...but why go to a school where they send you unprepared and under coached...and you go 4th round...small $$$$....go to Bama they are in it every year...GA...OSU...Cincinnati even...hell kids are even being talked into playing in a yoyo conference with no competition and playing for a PrimeTime assclown!!

do0nt like to be harsh...but thats what the Devil whispered to me...a bright shiny gold coin always has an underside that may be a dull damaged piece of metal...IJS

alpine

VA - to be honest, with tyler in the house together with some pretty decent receivers and not a bad stable of rb's, i can't imagine OC's not being interested . . . even the backup qb has a great chance of being decent if he sticks around, and i think he will
DC's have more reason to be wary, despite our great group of safeties
